You're better off buying two 2GB sticks separately. I bought two Super Talent 2GB DDR2-667 sticks for $90/stick for a total of $189.59 shipped from eWiz.com. There's even better deals now; the cheapest 2GB DDR2-667 stick is going for $84.99 + ship.
@Gophn - some of those RAM deals are not so great - might want to get rid of the $100+ 2GB DDR2-667 sticks. Personally I wouldn't post any sticks that are over $10 more than the lowest priced stick.
Another thing I would suggest is listing the sticks in order of capacity (descending).

Actually, the cheapest one is $84.99 shipped:
http://shop3.outpost.com/product/5284707?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG -
I think I have been trying to organize the RAM Deals by:
- DDR speed descending (DDR2-800/667/533, DDR1-400/333)
- RAM capacity descending
- best prices for each type descending -
I was under the impression that getting a kit would maximize DC because they came off the same assembly line or something. Hogwash? Anyway, don't wanna clutter this thread too much. >.<

I dunno if I'm supposed to do this but I saw a great deal on notebook ram today from buy.com and thought I'd drop it on here for other people looking for great deals. Mods, please feel free to delete if I'm breaking a rule or something.
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=202812946&adid=17070&dcaid=17070
Just looks like a great deal unless the prices of ram have dropped drastically in the last couple months since I've been watching them. -
Maximize dual channel?
the same size sticks even from different manufacturers should work in dual channel just fine.
Besides there is very little benefit from dual channel enabled to begin with. -
Oh man thats even a better deal! 55 for 2gigs?! My goodness...
Btw, the MIR for Buy.com, do they ever send your money back? Cause I'm still weary and uneasy about 'mail-in-rebates'. If Buy.com most definitely give you back the rebate, I'm buying. -
Another deal on Kingston 2GB DDR2-667 SODIMM Notebook Memory ($69.95)
:
http://www.futurepowerpc.com/scripts/product.asp?PRDCODE=MYKI-667D2K22G&REFID=FR -
I've had very good results with rebates in general. Can't say specifically about this one, but you need to make sure you read every single word on the page, terms and conditions, fine print, etc... If they tell you to write in all caps, do it. Use handwriting instead of a printout? do it. You can't give them any room to deny you, even if you think what they want is stupid.
-
thats desktop memory.
-
Hmm. Well I'm still skeptical about rebate offers. I'm still waiting on a rebate from a printer I bought 2 months ago.
But does buy.com have a good reputation of honoring rebates?
Or should it be ' does CRUCIAL have a good reputation of honoring rebates?'
Plus, it says 8-10 weeks until I receive the rebate check? Ehhh... -
Crucial is one the most reputable brands around... their rebates should be easy to do and receive.
and 8-10 weeks is actually quicker than most other rebates.
-
^Kool. I'm pulling the trigger.
-
My bad. I actually decided to go with 4gb (2x2gb): http://shop2.outpost.com/product/5284707
At $169.98, it's not going to get much cheaper any time soon. -
good choice, those 2gb OCZ sticks should be great for any notebook.
-
Any idea if this current Buy.com deal could sell out before the rebate expires?
-
doubtful... there are RAM deals every week.
I am always on the look out for this kind of stuff almost hourly.
-
^Iono but you have till July 2nd though.

im glad you guys can get all this stuff so cheaply
in the uk its a tad more expensive and harder to find certain brands on the 4GB (2x2GB) chip side
cant find any ocz.. GeIL...even crucial aint got any in stock not that id touch crucial as i consider them budget...me i have always gone ocz way on my desktop.
oh and Patriot DDR2 4GB (2x2GB) are only in usa i think as i cant locate any anywhere else internationally and it would cost me on custom tax
seen a few single 2gb modules unbranded on ebay but closer to £90 just like crucial...
but anway i found 2 i thought where good prices from a local supplier (the only one that is
) and would like your opinion on which would be better if i may
Transcend 4gb (2x2GB) DDR2 667 £144.68 inc vat/del
or
G.Skill 4gb (2x2GB) DDR2 667MHz £ 162.20 / € 238.53 inc vat/del <<<
what i thought was a bargain for such high grade chips well at least on desktop systems they are...
anyway just a note i went on crucial website and there memory configuration reckons my laptop cant support 2gb chips
yet fuji and the manual says different
so i think ill go with the manufacturers advice
model is fuji amilo Xa 1526
sorry if this was a bit long ....to many hours alone in a dark room playing games is the cause
i think
-
That's what I was gonna go with in my notebook, tell me how they are once you get them.
-
Would you identify it is one of micron chip?
OCZ PC2-5400 DDR2 SODIMM / OCZ2MV6672G from frys.com
Would you expect any problem with my T61 1G pre-exist samsung with new OCZ one above?
Thanks in advance -

Looks like the Buy.com deal is dead!
-
@Gophn - Also the Samsung 1GB module is not longer that low price. The link quotes $44 or so now.
Also, sales tax in CA, fyi! -
I wonder if they might get some back in stock before the rebate expires...there's still a week to go. Hmmm.

1GB DDR2 PC5300 SO-DIMM KINGSTON (1 stick) for $30 at Fry's, free shipping:
http://shop1.outpost.com/product/5274167#detailed -
the buy.com deal is back but it's now $79.99 + free ship or $69.99 + free ship with google checkout (both prices after rebate)
also the fry's 1GB DDR2 PC5300 for $29.99 has free shipping -
definitely going to jump on that 29.99 deal! wow!
-
Yeah, it's a good deal, but no warranty.
-
it has lifetime warranty through Kingston
-
How do you know? Wouldn't it say?
-
Heard ram prices are going up.
Better buy quick.
I bought 2x1024 Kingston PC2-4200 on Monday for $43CDN each, today the store changed their price to $56 each. -
It does say. In fact almost all ram is backed by lifetime warranty. Ram doesn't break, lol.

I'll have to sit tight for the next 2gb sodimm deal so I can grab 4gb of ram. Looks like prices have it the bottom so should probably buy now and be happy rather than wait for a price drop, or worse yet looks like they may go up.
Found a 199$ for 2x2gb at newegg for some geil stuff but its sold out. -
This seems to be the case, crucial carried up their ram prices in the last week and a half and by steep amounts too. DDR2 2x1Gb (667) kit last week Monday was going for $81.99 now today that same kit cost $109.99
. Crucial has always been expensive ram but if they are carrying up their prices then retailers will do so as well as soon as the current stock is depleted and they have to reorder.

http://shop3.outpost.com/product/50...XUrST8wJg**.node1?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Gophn, the Patriot 2gb 1 dimm memory is still at frys.com, but for $94.99 shipped. Still a pretty good price:

Im buying it right now. -
Hey guys I'm about to buy some Corsair ram from FRYS. First off, I have 2 questions:
1) I remember Corsair being very good RAM about 3 years ago. Are they still up to par?
2) Has anybody had any good/bad experiences from frys.com?
Thanks.
-larson -
The only thing i dont like about frys.com is the fact that i cannot return a product purchased online at one of their local retail stores.
If you're purchasing ram with free same day shipping from them, make sure you actually want that ram because they ship out quickly, which gives you little opportunity to cancel the order. I wish there was a simple "click to cancel order" button on their site.
I'm being picky here, but since i live in CA, i have to pay a 8.25% sales tax upfront on top of the price. -
Wow, funny you said that. I actually bought some ram TODAY off newegg, and I realized that I wanted 2 GB's instead of just 1 GB (long story). So I tried to cancel my order but I realized it had already been shipped, probably 2 hours after I made the purchase. I guess there are some pros and cons for fast shipping...

Frys is a huge chain on the west coast, similar to walmart/bestbuy ext all put together. You should have no trouble dealing with them.
As for corsair, its not bad ram. There has been some issues with it in the past but its all but resolved, almost all the sodimms are using the same IC's anyways so between brands besides the name on the outside there probably isnt a differnce. -
Thanks. People are probably wondering why I asked about Fry's. I mean if they are as big as Wal-Mart... But hey, I live on the East Coast
.

Yeah so do I, down here in florida but I had the oportinity to see frys when I was in the marines and stationed out in california.
its like frys everything...
frys grocery, frys electronics, frys this frys that.... its a freakin monopoly.
I wish we had frys electronics tho, atleast the store I went to in pheonix puts any best buy to complete and utter shame.
so much better, alot more stuff. first thing you saw when you walk in was 2 big screen tvs with ddr hooked up (the dancing game) so you can play for free.
The building itself had a carved surface and stuff.. pretty cool I took pictures but I think my X has them. -
Fry's Grocery was around still in the early 90's. They're no more though, at least in the bay area.
-
I bet they had good deals at their grocery store considering this good deal for ram at their website.

everything was cheaper in a grocery store in the early 90's ^^

thanks for the answer, ViciousXUSMC.
I just got my first laptop, T61, a week ago. It works really well, and it's time to upgrade ram. Does this work for Thinkpad T61?
