that was quick... OnSale through Amazon is sold out
-
I'm surprised it lasted that long. People were buying multiple units for several hours. Macmall must have had a large backlog and let OnSale handle the sales on Amazon.
-
Woot! Have three at least, and each have a purpose. Wonder if they'll show up anywhere else. But I think Amazon was probably the largest seller besides HP themselves.
-
Isn't Preware and Homebrew, like open source? I'm still very new to the OS, but it sounds like Preware/Homebrew is open sourced. Maybe I still need to do a bit more research on the OS
-
I just want to get one, just one.
-
Maybe, tomorrow or in the next few days you will see replenishment. ? -
EDIT: Just checked and it's OOS, sorry. -

i ended up buying another one for my mom lol... so i ordered 3 in all. one for me, one for my wife and now one for my mom.. i think something like that is ok but it kinda makes me upset knowing a lot of people are buying them to just resell them
and you have people that want to just get one and then cant.
-
I person on Slick Deals purchased 81 units. Either he has an extremely large family or he's an entrepreneur. I'll go with the later.

wow, gone for a day and this thread grows to 11 pages, nice!
After playing with my TP for a while I can say I am very pleased with what it does; I did install the HP update, then 'preware' (you install it from a computer, follow the instructions here How To: Install Preware onto the HP TouchPad), then I installed the 'uber kernal' and set it up so it can run at the 1.5Ghz instead of the 1.18 (this is the max setting, it will still clock down correctly), then a bunch of the 'patches' (ones that speeds the small things up, and especially the adblock one)
WebOS needs a little polish in some small things, but it is fast, slick, and works great (the multi-tasking works pretty well, and while not as fast as a full computer it is good enough; the 'cards' system is just sick! -switching between apps and closing apps is very fast and easy). The TP itself has a good screen, IMO really nice sound out of speaker/ headphone port, great battery life, the 'home button'that glows white when you are in a full screen app
Some notable apps are: LCARS-clock (cool star-trek-esq clock/ alarm clock that can play music for the alarm!), Kalemsoft media player (plays most all formats from what I have seen, you can get the free trial from here KalemSoft - Products just go to that site on the touchpad and download the trial and see if it works before plunking $7 on the 'full' version), Audiophile HD (audio player that plays most music types including .flac, though I haven't tried that capability yet, its free).. That's really it for the 'must try' apps
After seeing the rest of this thread I feel pretty lucky that I got one at all, though I wish I got one for my little brother too (kicking myself for not getting one of the ones that was at Walmart Saturday morning)
For those of you on the edge, let me push you! If you can get one, then do so! It is very nice, especially for $100 or $150 for the 16 or 32 versions -

Did I just say that? Using a non Wintel device for my computing needs. First an AMD laptop now this! I think I might just be hallucinating!

^^Nice, you changed your mind and decided it "wasn't money down the drain".
And, yes it is ok to purchase a few for yourself & friends and family but WTH would one need more than 8 or 10 for? That's just way to many and causes those that truly just one or two to lose out on. There are some good things to make a profit on, and some not. This one, I think those that purchased in multiples to only make a "profit on" are a fail in all ways. -
LOL there are 99 pages on Ebay for HP TouchPad listings. El Hoardo strikes again.
-
MacMall has them:
http://www.macmall.com/n/macNavLinks-491
(or is supposed to, site is hammered right now)
16GB:

Edit: Yeah, this one is a goner I believe... -
I am currently trying to buy one from macmall.com , but the site is loading awfully slow :|
-
One is going to my niece for her birthday, and one to me, and one to my mom.
-
Can't find anything around in Canada now, looking online on HP's site and they say its 99/149, but when you add them to your cart its 399/499
Anyone know where a Canadian can still get one?
-
i got 500 touchpads. they're not for sale. i'm going to make a wall of tablets and use a program to divide them into 16 pixels and basically make it a jumbotron on webos steroids. and if you're reading this far and believe me you can start laughing at yourself now and how silly i am.
-
Barnes and noble has em!
Only the 16gb version though
http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/HP-...z-Black/e/886111788637?itm=1&usri=hp+touchpad -
Got me thinking. Why didn't HP just start out with a $175 price point for the 16GB and a $225 price point for the 32GB model? They would have created hysteria just the same and sold bucket loads and put WebOS front and center as a game player.
Sure they would have taken a hit but they would have sold millions fast and allowed developers to take WebOS seriously. Sony did something similar with the PSP Go. They priced it too high and had a competing product the PSP. The PSP Go and it's ecosystem went nowhere fast and they unloaded their entire stock for the PSP Vita. -

I feel like the only way one might even have a chance of getting one is to sit in front of a computer all day, have slickdeals and this forum open, and constantly hitting the refresh button
-
Yeah, I missed several opportunities, just happened to pop in at the right time with the Amazon deal.

Best Buy Canada also has them:

Sale ends: TODAY
Edit: Wow ...on Ebay the lowest price is 200$ for the 16GB version. The hoarders are making twice what they paid for it back...
Kind of reminds me of the Dell Outlet hoarders who sell laptops for 25-50% more. Can't stand these people at all. -

Is there any available in the US?
I am trying to get one but most of the places are out of stock. -
-
Out of stock at bestbuy.ca
Bah, I wanted another one for my friend -
I am wondering if I should buy this or not? To the people who are buying it? Why are you getting one, just because it is cheap?
I am not sure why people who buy a discontinued product, just to hope to get android on it?
How does this tablet stand against the ipad or the samsung one? -
It will make an outstanding email, internet, e-reader media device. Can't beat it for $100.
-
And yes, the only reason I did buy one, was because of the price. However I would feel comfortable spending about $250 for this tablet, not the $400 they were asking. -
....and the fact that work has begun to port Android over to the TouchPad as well as making it a Dual Boot machine - WebOS and Android. Oh and I already own a Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 -
I'm in love with WebOS. And coming from an Android fanboy, it's pretty big to say.
The lack of apps is a pain but I can deal with it..
I got two, one for me (I use it for note-taking, media on the go and couch surfing), and one for my parents (they play angry birds, read .PDF and use the Kindle app as well as some couch surfing). -

Get them while they last...HURRY ! -
-
I put the 32GB in my cart for $149.99 but later removed it. -
To save you guys from having to argue the merits of the Touchpad, and why it is worth getting, read the comments to this -rather dull and blinded post- http://www.forbes.com/sites/briancaulfield/2011/08/21/thinking-of-buying-a-99-touchpad-don't/
basically as long as you don't want the largest app market with thousands of useless apps that all do the same thing; and are looking for a solid media slate with some solid productivity and very god multi-tasking, then this is it, especially for $99/$150 which means you don't have to worry to much about breaking are damaging your new toy
PS: I am getting about 6hrs+ while listening to music at full volume out of headphones, while browsing the net, while going through the HP and Preware App stores, and of course the 'battery monitor' so not bad at all IMO -
People sure are hoping for android out of thin air. Honeycomb Source hasn't been released. Ics source hasnt been released, and this would be a much better candidate for ics because of the lack of buttons. Then bootloader needs a hack. And driver support. Right now the best option as far as I've read is getting something like alien dalvik so android apps can be used.
-
Bootloader is hacked already, they have some odd Linux thing going on, CM7 is going to be second, after ASOP Gingerbread, and if/once the sources for Honeycomb or ICS are released, they shouldn't be too hard to port, since the work for Gingerbread will most likely already be done by then. Drivers are all set. Its alot closer than you think, one of the devs said that it'll be ready Wednesday. (Don't count on it or hold them to it.)
-
I just came from Slickdeals and they are now reporting that a good number of those OnSale orders from Amazon may get cancelled.
-
), and trying to profit from resell..those orders will be cancelled. And, hopefully those that ordered for personal use/family & friends orders will still be fulfilled.
-
-
Yeah, I get bitter when people hoard deals/try and find a way to manipulate the deal fraudulently, etc.... and others honestly purchasing for personal reasons get screwed out of the deal. -
I was further perusing the slickdeals forum and some have contacted onSale and they informed them that they do plan on cancelling their order. I just sent them an email via Amazon. Waiting for a response, it's looking iffy now peeps, sorry.
And like an idiot I called HP today and cancelled my order with them. -
I think the people who resell might have a hard time to fetch $200 for it. nobody was buying it before the sale.
