I placed a two separate orders with onSale (1) 32GB and (2) 16GB on Sunday. I received a cancellation notice for the 2nd order which was the 16GB unit from Amazon. The first order placed has not been cancelled as of yet.
-
Mine just got cancelled.
-
Black Friday. I am waiting for you!
-
Mine from OnSale got cancelled too. My order was placed 3:11pm PT
Not to be pessimistic, but what is there to wait for? It's not like HP is making any more of them and the larger retailers have cleared out their inventory. If OnSale really only had ~80 units, smaller retailers will carry much less than that and chances of beating those damn Slickdeals people to the deal is impossible. -
HP's second round offering of them.
-
Just adding to the stats. My order from onsale/amazon just got cancel...
-
Just went to two best buy's and they both basically laughed in my face when I asked about the HP Touchpads. One store had 2 in stock and had a line of about 100 people waiting for one (how stupid is that?) in the morning, and the other store had 3 and a line too. So if Best Buy is only getting 2-3 at a time now, then there's no hope. I give up.

If only HP could see they have a real competitor in their hands. They should've been more aggressive with the price and more patient. They're fetching $260+ on ebay for a "dead" device. I bet if HP revived webOS, they could easily sell them for at least $350. Too bad they just had to lose millions to get the TP into hundreds of thousands of hands for people to realize how good this device is. Hell... even Apple fanboys are praising this tablet and that never happens

Just got my cancellation notice

Just installed some of the most "recommended" patches from precentral, and I must say a lot of the things are much faster. I did install the patch to remove the 64kbps download "limit" HP had initially set, and I can't say for sure if browsing is any better, but within the OS things are quite a bit better. After dinner, I'm going to see if I can get this thing to overclock. Ideally, looking to get to 1.7ghz.
But I still have some reading to do, that's for sure. -
When I get mine, I'll OC to 1.7GHz, and install all the patches and performance addons. Who knows, maybe if the plan to port Alien Dalvik and Android Market to WebOS goes through, I won't go the android path.

So, I assume there are none left at the 99 price anywhere?
Thanks -
Well spoke too soon. My 16GB order with onSale was cancelled but they shipped my 32GB TouchPad which is out for delivery today.
-
Got a 32GB this morning from Best Buy. They had a little over 150 which was surprising.
And my order from onSale got cancelled too. -
150!? My best buy stores only had 2 or 3 per store.

The BB about 20 minutes away from me got 30 in stock last night. They were gone by the time I got there.
-
I'm going to check my BestBuy this Saturday regardless if it has stock or not. :3 -
This product doesn't have enough brand recognition. For me its Ipad, Lenovo tablet or bust.
This HP is too generic imo. -
-
Simply curious -
What things do the other tablets you own, do much better? And what does the TP not do enough to compete against iPad or SGT?
(Just trying to gather your opinion ) -
a long lifespan? -
It's not like the TP self destructed or something, when HP made the announcement. -
my onsale order got here yesterday. Comparing to my iPad 1...not bad
-
Car companies are more distinguishable but as an example Toyota sells a lot of cars but from time to time a Toyota could be mistaken for a Honda, Hyundia.. etc.. if you remove the badges. You know what a Ferrari is when you see it even if they aren't #1 in sales... -
For starters Apps. Care to compare the amount of Apps for the iPad or Android OS vs the TouchPad? Screen is much much better on the Galaxy Tab ( I own a Galaxy Tab 10.1) than on the TouchPad. Random screen tilts on the HP sometimes gets annoying. Sometimes touch and swipes are not as accurate as they should.
Android is a faster OS and more logical UI than WebOS, don't have any experience with iOS but i've read people like it more than Android if it weren't for the Apple lockdown. There's no back button on WebOS, you access and change Apps via the main button on the Tablet. You can't put shortcuts on the main window pane. All of your Apps are accessed via the Apps or Favorites Pane windows, needless steps IMO.
The TouchPad is quite heavy for a Tablet. The Galaxy Tab has a nice balance feel to it and is very light. The Galaxy Tab has a much better battery life vs the TouchPad. I also notice the TouchPad runs very warm during normal operation. I would hate to overclock it to the suggested 1.7 Ghz.
Boot times on the TouchPad are atrocious vs the Galaxy Tab. Those are just some off the top of my head. -
HP is a BIG name in the Tech world, their products are sold at most retailers and their the name is out there. So yes HP gets some attention for building a Tablet. -

Went to Best Buy today, and they said they only got like 6-8 in each shipment. Not sure how other stores are getting 100+.
-
I don't think any store gets 6 to 8 in each shipment. It's more likely that the employees reserve them for themselves. My brother-in-law went to one that showed as in-store-only and he was almost the first in line at 7am. The Best Buy guy came out and said they didn't have any. Apparently others in line started complaining and getting loud since the tracker showed they had Touchpads, and then the guy said they only had 30 units but they were reserved and could only sell 12.
So you never know with these guys. -
-
However, I "reserved" or "bought" mine online at OD, for in-stock pickup. Then went to pick it up in person when they opened. Maybe since they physically had 30 stock, 18 were "reserved", and 12 were "available for purchase".. -
Rodster, did you install any of the Preware patches? Update 3.0.2? Overclock to 1.5?
Installing Preware patches + 3.0.2 + 1.5ghz "OC" made the TP a much more refined and snappier OS. MUCH better than stock. -
FYI, you may have to keep resetting the update as I think their servers are getting hammered so you'll drop out a lot. The update is about 38MB but it took maybe 35 reconnects and a few reboots to finally finish the update. I say reboots because if you don't reboot the end of file gets corrupted and you'll see "unpacking" then it says successfully installed update. You goto device info and it says OS v3.0.0
Nice machine for the money. -
Preware is definitely something you should look into. And in regards to the heat - I suppose it could be problematic for some, but I guess the way I hold it (or how large my hands are), I totally miss the "hot" spot on the back. However if I do move my hand up, and hold it slightly different, I would be touching the "hot" spot.. -
-
you are basically getting half the performance/ snappy-ness of the whole package without installing pre-ware (a earlier post of mine in this thread links to it, on page 7 or so)
Install pre-ware from your computer, install some of the bigger patches like 'muffle system logging' (this will really speed things up) then the ad blocker for the browser, the 'faster card operation hyper speed', 'increased touch sensitivity and smoothness 10', and remove tap ripple (this does quite a bit for improving responsiveness)
also get/ install the 'uber kernel', 'touchplayer', 'Govnah' (for oc'ing, which is actually clocking at the chips designed capacity, HP just down-clocked it so it so they could promote their white 64GB version), and 'add launcher tabs'
I can multi-task quite a bit and it really doesn't get warm or hot at all (there is a barely noticeable amount of heat coming from one area of it when doing a lot for a while, but nothing I would label above warm, and certainly not uncomfortable in the least!)
Check this post Tweaked 16Gb Touchpad versus Stock 16GB Touchpad... - PreCentral Forums to get a feel for the difference the 'oc' has, and like said before, all it does is increase the max allowed frequency to the chips designed high end, it will still stay clocked low most of the time
And some tips on usability: swipe from the bottom of a open app to minimize it and go to card view
-Swipe up on the launcher bar to pull up or minimize the apps
-When in card view simply tap in the direction you want to slide -no need to make a grand swiping gesture (though it looks cool, especially with a lot of web cards stacked with the way the 'deck' unfolds)
-Don't forget the 'notification bar' in the top right that will display music info/ controls as well as other things
-Want a fancy number/ symbol that isn't apparent on the keyboard? Simply press and hold on a letter or number to get a ton of options
-you can save most photos on the web by clicking and selecting 'copy to photos'

My order of the 32GB version from CostCentral got shipped. I'm still waiting for the 16GB orders.

Waiting at bb...I'm the only one beside 2 to 3 employees who are inside...hoping more people show up as its kinda awkward.

I am not actively trying to get one of these but reading some of the stories about trying to go to a BM store and pick one up reminds me of when I was on a hunt for a Wii..
Those were terrible times
HP Touchpad 16GB for $85, 32GB for $135.
