You know that benchmark is useless right. Unless you have tested with a proper GPU benchmark, comparing WEI isn't a good way to show that graphics is better.

I only mention what I've noticed. That's what I wrote. Useless or not, this is the only thing I've noticed for now. I haven't ran any 3D Benchmark since I have Windows 7, so if I run it now, we won't know if there are any improvements. Anyway I will make a run soon to compare with the 3D MARK results I had from Vista.

    Hi,

I've managed to enable VMX on my 6935G Intel T9400 model by following instructions on the following thread:

    http://marcansoft.com/blog/2009/06/enabling-intel-vt-on-the-aspire-8930g/

Please proceed with caution!!! this is not for the faint of heart...

UPDATE 15/03/2009 CONSOLE MEDIA PAD MALFUNCTION BUG

The problem is about the console media pad. You can't interact with it by touching, looks like it's blocked, but stll be animated by windows itself.

    WHAT TO DO?
Unplug the power supply and remove the battery for about 5mn.

This bug exist since the 6920G model. Not a really big problem, but I was almost ready to bring my notebook to the service support. If you meet this bug, you know now you won't need to bring your notebook to the service support. /QUOTE]

For me I just touch the "Acer Arcade" button (top right on the media console).
It work botch in Vista x86 and XP x86 didn't try it under the x64 OS because I use my laptop for gaming primary and the 32 bit OS are good for me.
Hope this will help, better solution than shuting down and removing battery ...

As I promise, I've made new 3DMARK06 Benchmark under Windows 7 to compare with Vista 3DMARK06 Benchmark. I've also added Resident 5 Benchmark ;) This new test is also on the main page :)

    PERFORMANCES OF 9600M GT

3D MARK 06 Score at native resolution 1366x768 is 5825. A bit more than Vista 64 bits which was 5690

    [IMG] [IMG]

RESIDENT EVIL 5 BENCHMARK ON 6935G WINDOWS 7

I've only ran the Directx 9.0C Test. I thought it was useless to test the Directx 10 Benchmark with this kind of GPU ;)

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

You can see that you can play with good settings with this 9600M GT, I think this is not bad, and the graphics are still really nice.

    No answer...ok nvm,
after searching trough internet and doing some work i managed to make cine dash buttons (play/pause, next, previous and stop) work in winamp. Exactly what i wonted :D (all buttons still got their previous functionality in other apps)
i even changed acer arcade button to start winamp.

i can post guide if someone is interested, its fairly easy...

I disliked this manufacturer before, because the low quality built of their product. But since the Gemstone model, they seemed to have change their building quality, and I think they have improved in quality. Anyway, if you still buy a cheap low cost notebook (at 300-400 euros) from any manufacturers, you may sure to have some problem in the future.

The Gemstone was not so cheap but its price was more competitive than any other notebook at this time last year when we compared the specifications.

The design was also quite attractive comparing to other notebook brand, and it's still have a nice design today.

Now it's about a year that I'm using it and it runs perfectly well, and much better since I've installed Windows 7 :D

Acer yesterday released SATA AHCI driver for Win7 x86/x64 on their website. As entries for Windows 7 have been added, hope they release drivers for the fingerprint reader too :)

Can I install the generic Synaptics 14.03 driver from the Synaptics website on my 6935G? Will I lose some functionality if I do so?

I think if we use the drivers from Synaptics itself should be no problem because.. Theres no special functions for our touchpads from acer :D

You'll most likely need Win7 version of the drivers and software. Not sure if the Vista version would be compatible.

ACER has released the LaunchManager (Application Tab) to manage the Empowering Technology since October 23rd. I haven't tested it yet, but it must solve the compatibility problem when using the one for Vista.

There is a Acer Aspire 6920 for sale. The owner says it is less than a year old. I have seen the system and it looks quite good. However, I wanted to know if there are thing I should consider and check before buying it.

Secondaly, there is also Acer Aspire 6935g laptop for sale. I saw on the acer website and it says it has 512 MB dedicated graphics but the website from which could be buying it says it has 256 MB dedicated graphics. Here is the link to the site: http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/sto...u=587418&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null

Looks like it is a mistake but would like to hear from you.

Finally i wanted to know if this is the forum you be most active on or what. I tried to email you at [email protected] but i got message failure so this was the only way to contact you. would be nice if you could let me know your IM id or email.

    Thank You

Hey Vanquisher i think u shud go for the 6935g its a really good machine and my opinion is u go for it rather than the 6920. but, thats my opinion. Ive bought the same refurbished system from Currys (Currys, Dixons and PC World have the same laptop listings as they come under one group bla bla). The specs on the 6935G are the same as listed on the website and for ure info the graphics card has a dedicated 512mb for the graphics card, says on the website as well " * 16" Full HD WXGAG8 * Blu-Ray with DVD ReWriter Optical Drives * 512 dedicated up to 1791mb Graphics * Wireless Enabled * Gloss Black Colour"... i think its a good buy at the price but u shud know that i u only get the laptop and charger kit in the box nothing else, whereas if u buy the laptop as new it comes with a media centre remote, the usual manuals and i think a DVB-T antenna...lemme know if u have anymore enquiries...cheers

i am asking that i am going to buy this machine.

No you cant upgrade from DDR2 to DDR3 because of the different motherboard.

boska its not the best idea to think about upgrading as that is a bit tricky especialy if u plan on doing it yourself and like Eugene91 mentioned some components may not be compatible. its best to buy as high specced a machine u can if possible.. look up this thread some more info. The two laptops that u linked to are good in their own right, the HP mini is a totally different league but the Dell Studio XPS 16 (hope these are the ones that u linked) has a bit more classy looks i think...but ive read about it overheating, whereas the ACER does much better....i also think the graphics card on the Dell isnt as good as the ACER...pricewise the ACER is a better buy and from the reviews u can see that the 6935g is a good solid buy...

    dear achutngpakhtoon,

thanks for your reply i heard from my friend that you can upgrade the process of 6935g therefore i ask that in future may be i need to upgrade the processor.

you was talking about dell system i saw dell systems are not much good finished like 6935g you can say that i love it at first sight lolzzzzzzzz

what you say how much time you have this and is there any problem came into ???

    heating problem etc ????

some of my friend telling me that never buy acer it's not good acer can give lot of problems after purchase etc etc dell hp are good what you say about it???

Well if you want to know if u can upgrade the processor then well u can, but there is a limit to it. As in u can only upgrade to a maximum C2D 2.8 GHz cpu for the 6935G due to the motherboard (anything above that 'may' have compatibilty issues) and also its not easy to get the cpu changed u will have to find the right person for the job.
In my opinion Dell's are thought to be better machines by consumers than ACER's...this may have been the case before but ACER has come a long way in terms of reliability and quality and well DELL has and is still considered a pretty good machine....if u wnt to decide between both then u have to look at the specifications of the laptops that u want to buy and the price. For me the 6935G was good for my money and i got it way cheaper than the DELL Studio Xps 16....so in the end it is up to u to decide bcos i think both machines are about the same (except for a few odd differences).
Well i've had my 6935G for about 3 months now and thankfully i have had no problems and no overheating. I do play quite a bit of gaming in my free time (when i get it) and the laptop keeps warm at the most even if u play for a few hours.
Well i think ure friend is wrong in that, because seriously i have never bought aN ACER before and i had the same opinion like him before i bought this 6935G and well now i think the opposite. I think the 6935G is a really good machine, you wont be dissappointed. Also ACER last month became the 2nd largest computer seller in the world (in the US as well) which speaks volumes on their success.
Look around for more laptops if u arent satisfied it took me almost 10 months to make a decision, and the release of Windows 7 is bringing more newer latops to the market so u can always look at those. let me know if u have any more questions. always a pleasure to help. cheers.

If you ask me, you should try to find faster 6935G version (if you can afford it, but difference in money shouldn't be so big).
Just look at my specs down, it has faster processor and 4gb ddr3 memory, and i must say im super happy with it. (i even dont shut it down for 2-3 days, and i never had problems with it)

@boska: i see!! so which country are you in...from my experience i know tht in some countries you will not be able to get all the configurations of a system...if u tell ure country maybe we can tell u a site that delivers over there...and well the packaging of the latop is quite decent and there are minimal chances of breakage

Beside Acer gaming series, I think there is Acer Aspire 5542 15.6" NB with great balance of performance and cost, it definitely meet general user who using in daily business/ home assigment, but play game occassionally!

Just found there is special offer on Mwave, check this link:

yeah,in my opinion i used to think that acer pc sucks big time, but after getting my 1st acer,i'm proud to bring it everywhere, because i know it's a great pc.and this new generation of acer is well balance in performance and cost.just look at most of the spec and the price, sometimes ppl say, things are cheap for a reason, yes low quality, but for me,acer is just being cost friendly just to meet general user who is using it daily for work.so if u are planing to get an acer, give it a try, plus thier customer service is supurb!

I totaly agree with you :)
for tutorials use google, heres one i found, so check it out: http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/11/how-to-install-windows-7-and-live-to-tell-about-it/

and clean install means formating your hard disk (at least partition with os) and installing windows on it. Theres also option of upgrading your current OS to Win7, but im not sure is it possible to update from 32bit vista to 64bit Win7. So check it in link above.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit on my 6935G with a new HDD :p

I suggest you better do a clean install instead of upgrading which may cause problems.. :(

@Boska: sorry for taking time in replying i was travelling inter-city...well my friend you have a problem i know that choice/variety of laptops is a major headache in Pakistan....you can forget about online sites like amazon and the others delivering to Pakistan bcos none of them do that...so that is out of the question..what you cna do is look for all the websites from your ry seling laptops to find the right specs...this is hard but you will find alot of sites two good ones are panaroma computers and MyShop .... i recommmned that you phone these two websites especially and ask if they can arrange for the model that you are looking for and if you are lucky you might find your laptop from them....otherwise if you have someone coming from abroad especially the US or Dubai (evn anywh else) u can ask them to bring the laptop. And also if you are in Lahore go visit Hafeez centre the shops over there sometimes have such laptops. I know what i have said doesnt help much but hopefully you'll find wat u want.

@Fendi: i dont think doing a clean install will be too hard...i havnt installed Win7 as yet, but i suppose when u boot from the cd-driv the instaler will give u an optin to format the drive hence allowing u to do a clean install....or something like that...and as long as u have backed ure data no matte at u do u arnt gnna crash ure computer u cna keep trying till u finly achieve a crystal clean install of Win7 [=P]

    np Fendi,
My model came with vista 32bit and i did clean install of win7 64bit. I suggest you do the same thing. As long as you put your important files on other disks or disk partitions (if you have them) you should be safe, because youll format only partition with OS installed on it.
i found nice tutorial of how to do clean install of win 7 so check it to.
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

if you can it will be best if you prepare drivers before installation, but even if you dont it shouldnt be problem cuz win 7 recognised and installed almost every device in my laptop (except fingerprint reader i think)

    cheers and good luck :)
