The Fusion 15 definitely has the better aesthetics. Also heat on the keyboard looks better on the Fusion 15. Hope this trend continues and in 1-2 years we'll have the perfect jack of all trades device. -
Yea but this laptop features electroboost which in theory provides better performance than the run of the mill 1660 ti (cooling permit of course) and they mechanical keyboard is very nice too along with most of the ports in the back to allow for a cleaner setup.
Also, I'd like to mention that as @B0B did mention in his review, electroboost capability is indeed disabled in balanced mode (don't know if it's because of the extra wattage being sent to the CPU or what) but I guess in the end ill have to use performance mode and use throttlestop to power limit throttle the CPU possibly to keep electroboost active.Last edited by a moderator: Oct 8, 2019 -

Hey @XMG,
I recently purchased a Eluktronics Mag-15 and wanted to see if your model had a similar issue. My microphone jack is not functioning properly and Eluktronics was able to replicate the issue.
It looks like when purchasing a splitter like this one here, connecting apple or beats headphones does not allow you to use the microphone on them. In addition I also attached a RODE VideoMicro directly into the microphone jack and it's extremely quiet compared to the built in microphone.
Was your team able to replicate this issue on the Fusion? -
I have two questions about the eluktroboost.
First, is it only avaliable if bought through the eluktronics site? I saw that there was an option for free to turn it off or on when paying for it, but I didn't see anything similar on, for example, amazon.
Secondly, does it actually boost performance or is it some kind of buzzword? If not, are there any cons? -
A. You use the tweaks in this thread to increase the GPU thermal limit
B. Cap the CPU frequency to reduce the amount of heat it outputs
C. Use throttlestop to cap the CPU power limit to 45Watts

@Justin Ailey
When discussing Audio issues, first let's make sure that we have all drivers installed. Please follow our instructions:
Smart Sound Technology (requires reboot)
Please note that a reboot is required after installation of Intel Smart Sound Technology (ISST). If the system is not rebooted after this driver, then the following Audio driver won’t include the ISST subset of features.
- Run “Setupinf.exe” in \Drivers folder with Admin rights
- There will be 4 messages “The operation completed successfully.”
- Please confirm each 4 of those messages, then restart Windows via Start Menu
- The Windows reboot is mandatory before proceeding to the next step!
Audio Driver (consists of 3 parts)
After ISST and Reboot, the Audio driver consists of 3 individual parts. Please install each 3 parts in the suggested sequence.
- Audio Driver v. 6.0.8703.1
- SPKEQ_TF_PCAPP_US_1_00_24.exe
- CreativeAudioEffectsComponentInstaller_2.0.0.36.exe

We have re-packaged some of these drivers. The file and foldernames from other sellers might be different.
https://help.longtailproducts.com/h...-Headset-Standards-Apple-iPhone-AHJ-CTIA-OMTP
Microphone and Ground are reversed in CTIA vs. OMTP.
Your splitter adapter needs to follow the standard of the headset that you're using.
If you use an OMTP headset on an CTIA adapter, your mic will hit the ground.
A google search reveals that your Beats headphone cable might be built in the OMTP standard.
The splitter product page you linked did not specify whether it follows CTIA or OMTP.
The same should work if you use a traditional PC headset where headphone and microphone jacks are separated.
My System:
- XMG FUSION 15
- Windows 10, Version 1809
- BIOS 0052
- Control Center 2.1.0.15
- Audio_Driver_Win10_6.0.8703.1
- CreativeAudioEffectsComponentInstaller_2.0.0.36
- SPKEQ_TF_PCAPP_US_1_00_24
In Soundblaster Connect, I previously enabled the "Studio Recording" profile to get a clean EQ on the microphone.
On the right side, I increased Bass, Crystalizer and Smart Vol - but this only affects output.
To conduct a true hardware/driver test, let's disable all Soundblaster functions:
- Disable EQ
- Disable Voice Enhancer
- Disable SBX PRO STUDIO
Now, if you record a file with the microphone-jack and play it back to yourself, it might sound rather quiet.
The culprit is in the Windows driver microphone input gain.
In Windows 10, Microsoft has hidden these settings very well. Thanks, Steve Ballmer!
My fastest way to access it:
Right click on the Speaker icon in the systray → Sounds
A new window will open. Here you switch to the " Recording" tab and double click the " Microphone" device:
The default settings here are:
- Microphone (aka Gain) at 80%
- Microphone Boost at +10 dB
I have 3 different headsets/microphones here. Using the Windows Voice Recorder app, I conducted a test for you with four settings for each microphone:
- Gain 80, Boost 10
- Gain 100, Boost 10
- Gain 100, Boost 20
- Gain 100, Boost 30
The volume of the audio files have not been modified after recoding.
The original files can be found here:
File: XMG-FUSION-15_Microphone-Samples.zip [Download]
You could argue that the input gain should be changed to 100% by default. I'm not sure if Microsoft even allows to change such a setting. I will wait for some more feedback from other users before I make any more moves on this topic.
Cheers,

Do other OEMs like @XMG and Aftershock have their own version of Eluktroboost on their Intel collab laptops?
-
In XMG FUSION, we don't put much emphasis on it because we don't want to raise false expectations.
The building blocks of the performance profiles are identical between each Intel partner - we all draw from the same source, as explained in this post.

Hah, so I just found out about the $100 price increase. Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be, I can't justify going from the 15x to this for that price sadly.

Just got delivery of my Fusion 15 to replace my old and swollen Alienware 13. I am not going to be doing any benchmarks because I don't really care about them, so don't ask, but I will answer some other questions if I can and give feedback.
First off on opening the laptop and setting it up (I am still in the setup phase) I am happy with the build quality of the laptop. I almost thought it was plastic because of the lightness and finish on the chassis, but it feels good. I used the trackpad to begin with and it's ok; I don't normally use them and I don't like them but it worked ok.
The keyboard feels great. It is taking me a little while to get used to it as it's my first mechanical keyboard, ubt I really like the feel. It is slightly noisier than a chiclet keyboard but it doesn't seem too loud.
Doing lots of data transfer, surfing, downloading etc the laptop hits 40 occasionally and will kick the fans into low gear which is fine (quiet mode) and I haven't actually got any games fully installed yet to test the graphics yet. The screen is fine and I have zero backlight bleed. Happy with that so far and I haven't had a chance to test the battery in real world usage yet.
The speakers aren't great. They are servicable, but worse than my alienware I'll see how they are when I watch a few movies on this.
Now for a question. I want to undervolt the cpu some more can I do this from the bios (my preference) or do I need to install other software? -
Would anyone be so kind to report the charge rate shown by hwinfo when on idle in powersaving mode (running on battery) and minimum display brightness?
-
Hi there, thank you for your positive feedback!

On the m15r1 I tested it was 7.5W to 8W, and package CState could not go below PC3
I will get the numbers on my XMG Fusion 15 tonight, but I would like to get numbers from other users too, just to make sure they match. -
-
-
The fans ease in with 30% at 50C and shut off after 3 minutes below 48C.
Different tools might read different temps though.
Charge rate depends on the charge status (%) of the battery. I'm away from my sample for a few days and can't give you a reading right now.
Cheers,
XMG|Tom -
The AC needs to be disconnected. The Charge Rate will be a negative number that can be interpreted as the power consumption of the machine. -
Does anyone have news on Shipping status of eluktornics ?
i ordered mine at eluktronics website on 18 th September , Never heard back from them . Writed 3-4 times to their email, but they never get back to me , I ordered mine with liquid metal paste . -
Can the drivers from XMG be used if the laptop came from Eluktronics, and vice versa. Are they all universal?
-
@buffalo-floyd Yes. // Tom

I wouldn't risk it with the BIOS, just in case they have custom incompatible versions (although I doubt it). -

Anyone know if this laptop supports intel XMP (Intel Extreme memory profile)? I think it does based on the ram clock speed I saw perma doing but im not sure.
-
We have not looked into what Prema has done or if his system was stable beyond initital benchmarking. Please keep in mind that higher RAM speeds increase CPU temperatures as well. Intel officially supports up to DDR4-2666 in i7-9750H.

On the other hand, take into consideration that ordering with liquid metal adds a delay on the order.
Keep us posted! -

Our generic guide for BIOS Update via EFI Shell works on this model, too.
But now it's even easier. Intel has implemented the BIOS Update mechanism straight into the BIOS via F7 during Boot time. The BIOS Updates are strictly packaged as "Capsule Update" files (CAP) which will update EC, ME and BIOS in one go. Very clean and simple.
BIOS Update Instructions for XMG FUSION 15:
- Extract ZIP file
- Put .CAP file on USB Stick (does not need to be empty)
- Reboot and hold F7 to enter BIOS Update Tool
- Navigate towards USB Stick and select CAP file
- Apply and Confirm update
- After update, Reboot, enter Setup (F2), go to Exit and Load Defaults
- Go to Boot and enable "Fast Boot" again
- Save & Exit, Finished
But you have to unpack the ZIP file first, of course.
We will put these instruction up on the download page shortly.
Updating via Windows is supported by Intel but Intel's Windows BIOS Capsule Update tool has been removed by our FAE team for this update. Since this is a new product, we want to play it safe and only support a nice and clean, expert low-level update process for the time being. Call us crazy, but Windows and Firmware updates do not really go well together. Windows introduces too many unpredictable variables, including unexpected user behaviour.

thanks I will procede to upgrade it immediatly.
So far the machine feels amazing, flawless build quality, will report back on performance soon! -
Hi @XMG I have just downloaded all the drivers for the Fusion 15 and I see that many of them are digitally signed by... Clevo
Why is that? Does Tongfang work with Clevo? Or did they just reuse the same drivers?Last edited: Oct 9, 2019 -
We repackaged some of Intel's drivers for extra convenience and re-used some Clevo tools for it, most notably the SetupInf.exe program which is a simple tool that uses Windows-internal mechanisms to install the INF files provided by Intel. So this crosstalk is 100% on us. I apologize if this caused any confusion during installation. // Tom

No problem, I was just curious -
My Eluktronics order is in Awaiting Fulfillment for last three days. No reply on mails too.
How much time did it take for you guys ? -
Can anyone post what FPS they are getting (average and lowest) from these games (on Max and medium settings)
1. League of legends
2. Monster Hunter world
3. Ark: survival evolved
4. Overwatch
5. Destiny 2

If you have any questions or need assistance, please send me a DM. We did include installation instructions where necessary inside of the files. Sorry to say this BIOS update does not change the 75c GPU limitation, but our Gaming mode will now allow the system to run stock frequency (instead of 645MHz) like other 1660Ti/2070MQ's and will very unlikely reach the 75c. Gaming + EluktroBoost mode will still reach the 75c cap with the added power.Last edited: Oct 10, 2019dakooga, buffalofloyd, Arondel and 1 other person like this. -

Quick question, is there any interest in buying it from Amazon now ?
When I try to buy it there I get a total price of around 1700$ with tax included, while on the eluktronics website no taxes seem to be added and the final price is 1599$. Am I missing something ?
Edit : just pulled the plug and bought it on the Eluktronics website, for a total of $1.599. But my Paypal shows a total payment of $1671.18 ? What's this about @Eluktronics ?Last edited: Oct 10, 2019 -
Hello! I am really interested in this laptop. Thinking about selling my current laptop (Surface Book gen1) and my desktop PC and buying 1660 version of this machine. However, touchpad is CRUCIAL for me as I rely on it heavily during my work, and I have never met a better touchpad on windows machine than on Surface devices. Can you please give a deeper review of the touchpad and maybe even a comparison with surface/mac book touchpads? Thank you!
