So I just got off the phone with them and a different guy answered this time. He told me that instead of sending me a new laptop they fixed the original one again... So according to him, I wont be getting an EVOO laptop and will just be getting the OP one back. Definitely not what I wanted to hear, but I will try to call again on Monday to see if I can get the original guy that answered and see if they can get me an EVOO instead.
He also mentioned that there is a 90 day warranty from when you get a unit from them so if anything goes wrong in that time they will service it as if it is still under warranty, even if the original 2 year warranty already expired.Op25705994 likes this. -

I just got the tracking number and it says it will arrive on Tuesday, so we will see how it is when it arrives. -

So after a long break from this; I've decided to try to get my laptop working again as a "fun" project.
I've replaced several cables, new USB daughterboards on both sides, and reconnected everything. So, I must have done something wrong; as I get no activity when I hit the power button. There are no lights, no fans, no action.
When I plug the laptop into the wall, the backlight keyboard lights up and stays lit; however, no action when pressing the power button.
Any ideas? How do you reset the Bios Battery? Is there an easy paper clip method fix or something similar where I can flash it by tripping the circuit?
Any ideas? Thanks all!
If I can't figure this out, i'll be parting this bad boy out. -
Well, I just got my laptop back and everything seems to be working great. Will work on restoring all my files and testing it during gaming to see if there are any issues and report back. I am hoping I can get another two years out of it if possible lol

The keyboard was better (mechanical and per key RGB), the memory config. is now 8x2 vs 16x1 so the 16 I bought now gives me 24 instead of 32 and the webcam wasn't on the bottom of the screen. And I am already out of hard drive space lol
Just glad its over though. This warranty experience was terrible minus the fact that we now have working laptops. lol -
The only thing I still have to do is stick my 16gb ram stick in this one and that should be perfect, but everything else is running well so far with no complaints.ChiFlipNurd312 likes this. -
I popped the bottom lid off and once again broke the "warranty sticker" and there is a place for a 2.5 hard drive. I still can't ever get over the idea of multiple 90GB steam downloads.PhatPharaoh likes this. -

Just wanted to post an update here. I have been calling Evoo for the past 2.5 weeks (I think I have spoken to them 6 times)and everytime the answer has always been that they are still investigating a laptop repair or that they are looking at laptop replacement.
The fifth time I called, the CSR straight up told me they couldnt find a 'fair' replacement unit and that i would be receiving a refund(i was a bit shocked but atleast I could now get a headstart on a new laptop) and that all they were waiting on is approval from management. Well I called again after two days, someone completely new answered the phone and told me that they had identified a replacement model(I thought it might be some lower equivalent laptop since the previous CSR said they couldn't find a fair one) and gave me an Amazon link to review its specs. It was the Evoo LP9 model. I accepted the proposal and gave the CSR my address and am hoping to receive it soon. THE CSR didn't specify when it would ship but I will checking in again on Friday. So yea.. getting a definite upgrade, will definitely miss the mechanical keyboard on OP though. I was also looking at some new 2060s and was planning on buying the AORUS 15G kb or even going for the new 3060s next month.. oh well everything worked out. Will post another update when I get the machine.Last edited: Jan 26, 2021ChiFlipNurd312 and PhatPharaoh like this. -
I am still kind of disappointed I didn't get an upgrade, but at least my original unit is working perfectly since I got it back at least lolOp25705994 likes this. -

Hi, I have installed ubuntu 20.04 on a gk5cn6z, and everything works fine except the fan control. They stay to a minimum and are never activated. If I press the physical button to activate them to the maximum if they work. I have installed several programs and it tells me that it does not detect any pwm sensor. Anyone come up with something?

I am VERY disappointed with the latest update from Overpowered Customer Service. More than two weeks ago, I was told that they had deemed my laptop unrepairable and I was slated for a replacement to ship out imminently. Today I finally got them to call the warehouse for an actual update, only to be told that they have contracted with a new repair company, so they are going to try to repair it again and it will take another entire week to get a determination on taht. Furthermore, if they can't fix it, they will give me a REFUND, not a replacement, since they are completely out of replacement units of any kind. I am sure the "refund" will arrive timely within 12-16 business weeks.

Well, more drama in this never-ending saga with OP customer service. Today I called and was told, "oops, when we said you would get an update on Friday, we meant next Friday." I'm sure I'll hear that again in a week. Oh, and they told me to email that address that never responds. Yes, I told them to escalate, but the contractors who run the phone line can't actually do anything. Honestly at my wit's end.
P.S. Did anyone save a copy of the warranty text? It was on the OP website that is now defunct.Last edited: Feb 5, 2021ChiFlipNurd312 and Op25705994 like this. -

PLEASE HELP! OverPowered OP-LP3 Laptop USB-C Controllers
Hello I really need help here, I changed my SSD for a bigger one in my Overpowered Laptop OPL-P3 that is the 17" version, the problem is the new drivers for the USB-C on the back installed by windows are generic and the USB-C isn't working properly; I used to have an HP Elite USB-C Docking station installed on it, and now after the reset, everything connected to it, becomes really laggy, specially the keyboard and the mouse, mouse stutters alot, the keyboard doesn't type sometimes or it completely goes crazy, I plug the Keyboard and the mouse on the side USB ports of the laptop and they work just fine, so the problem is those drivers I think related to the USB-C, since the drivers for the HP Elite USB-C Docking Stattion are up to date, and dowloaded from the site. If anybody else has this laptop and can share the drivers of your USB-C on the back I would really appreciate it since, having the keyboard and mouse on the side looks horrible and it is pretty annoying too. PLEASE HELP ANYBODY OUT THERE. BTW i checked the official website and now it's gone, so I don't think I will get help from there.
Update:
I also discovered the Power settings on the OP Control Center is grayed out, probable reason why USB-C not sending Power out anymore, (it used to send power out trough the USB-C) because i could have the docking station on without its ac adapter, now after the clean windows install it does not allow me to power it trough the USB-C i have to have it with its own ac adapter, and with all thise laggyness -

Update:
I also noticed the OP Control Center Used to thore more Power Settings at me, now I oly have Standard and ECO, the front RGB doesnt work even after you toggle the on off switch on the OP Center, Fan settings are grayed out you cannot select office mode basic setting nor advanced settings, this leads me to belive that something is wrong with my power maangement settings, reason why before the reset the USB-C could send some power out to the USB-C Docking Station, now it wont, unless I have the AC Adapter for the HP Elite USB-C Docking Station it won't work, before it would output power and I am 100% sure about this, cause i had it for months running like this, what could have gone wrong? what drivers do i need to go back to how i had it before? Please Help! -

Hey acaN or gotchapt, this is a long shot, but did you ever figure out a way to address the issue? The video by gotchapt is no longer available, but I suspect that I have the same problem. My wife packed the laptop away in her backpack while it was on standby mode, but it eventually died overnight by the time she got to it. Afterward, she left the battery to charge overnight on her desk, but it no longer powers on. If you press the power button, the power LED briefly lights up. I also noticed that the trackpad's LED also lights up at the same time for the same duration, which is only a fraction of a second. I hear a small hum or electrical whine like it's trying to start if I put my ear next to it when I press the power button. It's the same whether I hold it down or press the button.
Since I have my own GK5CN6Z, I've tried swapping parts with hers around trying to figure out if it's an issue with any specific parts. I've verified it's not the RAM, not the SSD or HDD, and not the battery (I unhooked it, relying on AC only). Also pulled the plug out of the CMOS battery thinking that might help reset something, but it was a no go.
It's probably not due to the GPU either. I had originally sent in my GK5CN6Z at the beginning of June 2020 due to the screen flickering issue that others also had where if you lowered your brightness, the flickering would stop, but it had to be at something ridiculous like 10% or 0%. I asked CS to have the technician explain what the fix for the flickering was and they said "The LED fuse on the motherboard was failing causing the screen to flicker. The fuse has been replaced, tested and working well." It took them until the end of July 2020 for me to get it back. In their haste to get it back to me though, three of the GPU screws were installed partly stripped and are now fully stripped when I tried to remove the GPU for testing. I tried using the rubber band trick as additional grip, but the screwdriver just pierced the rubber band when twisting. I also tried using superglue on my screwdriver and held it in place until it was stiff, but it twisted away without being able to take it out.
Since I wasn't able to remove the GPU, I ended up just unplugging the cable and then booted up my laptop to the login screen without issue.
I'm bummed that this happened a month outside of the two year warranty. And of course since it's Presidents Day, their phone support isn't available, if it even still exists. Reading through these past 30 pages, it seems EVOO is handling the care now. Anyone have any luck with the 1-800-379-3820 or [email protected] email recently or is there a different number or email to use now? Edit: as of Feb 16th, it is still the same info. Was denied warranty coverage though :\ CS suggestion was to use something like BestBuy's GeekSquad, Staples, or ubreakifix. I'm pretty sure none of these big brand stores would be able to fix something like this so it'd be forking over money for no reason.
I'm wondering if I can just straight up order a replacement motherboard. All the links to the resellers on the first page only re-direct to the latest iteration of laptops with 30XX series.Last edited: Feb 16, 2021 -
Hello,
I'm the owner of a gk5cn6z from PCspecialist since 2018, and was really happy with it.
Recently, perhaps due to a bad connection, the plastic of the 150W DC power plug (male) melt inside the computer, and then the power connection was hazardous and finnally broken.
PcS suggest me to change the whole motherboard for an outrageous price...
I'm looking for a new power connector/alimentation cable (perhaps in 180W would be better?) to replace it, but I really don't know where to find it, especially the power connector female.
Any idea?
I've found it on google but I don't know what to think about:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Overpo...310213?hash=item1cfd184405:g:w7kAAOSw-RlfzlGW
(and the shipping is 1month more...) (I'm in France)
Thx for your help!
and sorry for my english, try my best but it's too technical -

Any idea of how to increase PL1 and PL2 on battery, because under 25% my cpu throttles at 0.79 GHz and ThrottleStop shows 10W on PL1 and PL2. When I'm charging it shows 45 and 56W. I changed the battery some months ago so that shouldn't be the problem. I have the latest XMG BIOS
-
Mine is doing the same even with more than 40%.
-
I got my computer back from OP, they replaced the RAM and a fuse.
It's had three BSODs in the five days I've had it up and running ... so it doesn't look like anything is fixed. -
Hello there, glad to see there's a forum about the Tongfang GK5CN6Z, so I've decided to register so I can take part in this forum.
I recently purchased this Laptop (rebranded as the 3XS LG15 Vengeance Pro) with a core i7-8750H & GTX 1060.
I've only had it for a few months now and I am currently experiencing that same issue where the laptop crashes out of nowhere.
A recent discovery I made is that these crashes occur whenever I switch the laptop to either Gaming Mode, High Performance, or Equilibrium Mode. This doesn't happen straight away, but it normally happens when I am currently using the laptop.
I've tried replacing both the PSU & the battery, but the problem still persists. (my previous PSU was 120w so it wasn't delivering much power causing the computer to randomly throttle and shut down from overheating).
I would also like to state that this happened after I updated my BIOS from the original one that was on there (the 3XS BIOS).
The first time I updated it to the XMG, then changed it to the Mechrevo BIOS to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't, so I am currently back on the XMG BIOS.
I have done all I can to try and diagnose this problem, except testing out the ram. I ran a memory diagnostics tool to check if the RAM was okay and the results came back with no problems.
However, later today I am going to take out each of the RAM sticks by taking one out and letting them run on their own. I will keep you updated to see if that has solved the problem.
(Also if anyone has the 3XS BIOS for this laptop can you post a link in here). -
hello there, just a further update.
I've tested the ram modules to see if they were bad and they weren't the problem.
I also forgot to mention that without the charger plugged in the laptop randomly shuts down after I get to the login screen and put in my passcode. but if I put it in power saving mode it works fine.
I did this by putting the laptop on powersaving mode while charging, shutting down the computer and rebooting it with the charger plugged out.
i've done all i can think of atm so if anyone has more ideas or if anyone has had this problem in the past and has found the solution, let me know! -
Does anybody have latest BIOS for GK5CP6Z (PC Specialist). Somehow the current one got corrupted and the dGPU is not detected properly.
Last week I sent PC Specialist the request to get the BIOS, but has been no reply since then. -
I have a GK5CQ7Z of wich the keyboard backlight stopped woking. I tried to replace the ribbon cable without success so i would like to know if it's possible to replace the wole keyboard.
-
Just wanted to confirm - is it possible to cross flash BIOS - let's say from Schenker's XMG over another one - the same model No. GK5CP6Z

Decided to mess the BIOS & EC on my Gateway GWTN156-3BK, unfortunately, GatewayUSA does not provide their own files. The system came stock with N1.02. I decided to install the BIOS & EC from XMG's Intel Core 15 which has an i7 over an i5. But the same chassis. The BIOS is N1.03 and actually enabled some additional features. The boot logo of course changed, but the only issue I am now experiencing is that I didn't realize (my fault) that the XMG model has a different Media/FN key layout, so the EC update remapped the FN keys. So f11 which is normally Brightness Down on the Gateway is Airplane mode on the XMG. This is slightly annoying, but liveable, so hopefully, I can revert back to the Gateway EC (Can't find a copy of it) to restore the proper mappings.
Also, the Performance profile button next to the power button has been remapped to a fan boost button. Everything else is working great with no issues.
These were the files I used:

Hi,
I've got a problem - my keyboard and battery stopped working suddenly. The battery does not get loaded anymore and the keyboards backlight is off and doesn't apper in control centre anymore. Every key is dead as well - i can only use the notebook with an external keyboard.
I try to figure out if the latest Windows update makes problems or if it is a hardware defect - I just read that in June last year some also had problems with the keyboard.
Does anybody of you had the same problem? Do you know a solution approach?
Currently I try to uninstall the latest windows updates. I also orderd a ribbon cable for the keyboard in case this should be the problem. -
-
My battery and keyboard work now again - I changed the ribbon cable (40 pins, 150mm long, both contactsurfaces on the same side). Now everything is fine again.
