MEGA POST UPDATED ! poke @sicily428
I dont know, it doesnt happen to me that way. Is the buzz still here if you plug in some earphones ? (whille still at volume = 0)
-
That's happens with non-shielded sound chips or bad sound driver/software setup.
If you could add to that mega post, 15" and 17" shares a ton of parts, drivers, vBIOS, even BIOS itself is shared. max-q version can be used with a full RTX 2070 with a max-q vBIOS, RTX 20XX drivers for all laptops in general are really only available with the Vendors.
The RTX model do not have blue switches, that switch is no longer in production I believe.Last edited: Feb 16, 2019dreamcat4 likes this. -
I have two OP 17+ Machines and both speakers buzz when the volume is unmuted. When i mute the volume the buzzing stops. I even reinatalled windows with no drivers and its still there, it seems to be a hardware problem
Its not too loud though, i can only hear it really when i put my ear close to the speakerLast edited: Feb 16, 2019 -
Same as me. When connecting headphones or playing audio it disappears. I think it’s driver related but I don’t know how to solve it.
-
Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling all audio drivers and i was unable to make it go away. Its a hardware issue
-
I will update the OP in few hours.
-
Might want to update the titles to include the new model names: GK7CP0S/GK7CP7S 17" GK5CQ7Z/GK5CP0Z 15"

ok DRIVER 418.91 IS FINNALLY INSTALLING !
You need to update through GeForce Experience!
Enjoy. -
Did anyone figure out how to get nvidia control panel to install after re-imaging windows? It was a problem from the start no one knew how to fix.
-
I only heard people downloading it from the microsoft store. But maybe that was geforce experience, not sure sorry. I managed to get mine the control panel back but can't remember how I did it for sure sorry

I need help, after updating to BIOS 1.09 - EC 1.37.09 - XMG and running the OEMsev i cant see settings at the gaming center tabs (power settings and system monitor) it gives me an exception about resource "strCharge" not available.
I tried going back to BIOS 1.05 and reinstalling gaming center and deleting the register settings but no luck so far.Last edited: Feb 17, 2019 -
Did you follow the instructions from XMG and also install the corresponding ControlCenter?

I have this issue too..installed new drivers via Geforce Experience but still no NV control panel....
I've got the 15" 2060 RTX version (Recoil II) from PC Specialist, but it's on BIOS 1.02 and EC 1.02.09. Getting some power limit throttling and I read earlier in this thread that the 1.02 BIOS has some issues, although that was with reference to the 1060 version not the 2060.
I've asked PCS if there is a later BIOS/EC and will update if I get a reply.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 17, 2019 -
While I performed a clean install of Win10 and had no issues, this link gives one explanation as to how to reinstall the control panel:

Hello all,
My aim is to connect 3 screen (2 extended, 1 mirror or 3 extended nevermind).
It is said here: http://zhongce.sina.com.cn/article/view/8457/, that the Mechrevo Z2 (aka gk5cn5z) do support 3 simultaneous display.
I quote:
"5.接口丰富,提供了两个USB3.1 GEN1(TYPE A)、一个USB2.0,一个HDMI接口,两个mini DP接口和一个USB3.1 GEN2(TYPE-C)接口,支持三屏同时输出。"
"5. Rich interface, providing two USB3.1 GEN1 (TYPE A), one USB2.0, one HDMI interface, two mini DP interfaces and one USB3.1 GEN2 (TYPE-C) interface, support three screen simultaneous output"
Does it mean I can connect:
2 MiniDP port + 1 HDMI?
or
1 MiniDP + 1 USB Type C + 1 HDMI?
or
2 MiniDP + 1 USB Type C + 1HDMI ?
Thanks by advance for your kind support.
Best, -
Use the 2 MiniDP and HDMI.
-
Thx for the fast answer
. I thought MiniDP and HDMI was not the same graphic card (hence no way to use both at the same time), I am wrong ?
Best, -
Ok I was still focusing on GK5CN5Z/6Z (because I have the 6Z) and didnt read attentively posts related to 17" or RTX versions. Actually I thought they also had dedicated threads, maybe with some linked ressources from this thread, as they are very similar machines.
So it's clearer to me now that we should agregate infos regarding 17" and RTX versions. The thing is : I do not know every model and I'm not sure what can be shared or not.
Correct me if I'm wrong:
- there is 15" 1050Ti (GK5CN5Z), 15" 1060 (GK5CN6Z), 15" RTX2060 (GK5CP0Z), 15" RTX2070 Max-q (GK5CQ7Z), 17" 1060 (GK7CN6S), 17" RTX2060 (GK7CP0S), 17" RTX2070 (GK7CP7S)
- So why not to add the GK7CN5S (17" 1050Ti) to the list?
- EC is specific for very each model
- Beside the graphic card driver, all models share the same drivers (sound, I2C trackpad, Intel Wifi, Killer Wifi, Bluetooth, function keys......)
- GTI and RTX versions cannot share BIOS, vBIOS and EC
- 15" and 17" versions can share their BIOS and vBIOS as long as they have the same graphic card. Even the non Max-q 17" RTX2070 (GK7CP7S) can share its BIOS, vBIOS and graphic drivers with the 15" RTX2070 Max-q version (GK5CQ7Z).
Weird, I saw earlier in this thread that the USB-C port is 3.1 Gen1 and not Gen2, and not video capable.Last edited: Feb 17, 2019sicily428 likes this. -
From what I've read, both MiniDP and HDMI are linked to the dedicated GPU. iGPU only has access to the laptop's display. Which means that you cannot look at a 2h movie with your VP pluged into your unplugged 15,6" laptop with a small battery, because dGPU has to be active and sucking too much power
-
Where can I find the 17" RTX bios? I want to try it on my 15" RTX to see if that restores mini dp functionality when running the Full 115W vbios on my Max-Q 2070.
Thank youuuuuu! -
I just bolded "Correct me if I'm wrong" in my previous post. Not sure if it will work/brick your laptop. Your idea is great, but I've not seen yet any vBIOS update especially for those TF laptops.
EDIT: Maybe someone with the 17" RTX 2070 TongFang can extract its vBIOS with GPU-Z and upload it, as said in this page ?dreamcat4 likes this. -
I think the limitation is more about power than Data.
-
is there also a gtx1070 max-q version, right?
-
I've done it already 2 days ago haha. I started with the Razer blade 15 90W vbios: Works VERY well, ton more performance but I lose mini dp
So I tried the vbios from non MQ 2070 from the TF 17", it works too but I still lost mini dp.
So I was thinking maybe the 115W vbios + bios/uefi from the 17" RTX combined would get the mini dp work.
For now I'm back on stock 80W but its frustrating knowing there's all that power waiting to be unlocked, if I could just get mini dp working.
I can confirm that the 90W vbios is safe to run in case you want more power and game on the laptop display or use HDMI. you're looking at 10-20% increase, its a Max-Q vbios so runs cool and yeah safe as it gets.
The 115W I'm not convinced yet it is safe, need more testing but I lost interest when I saw I lost mini dp... Some folks over at win-raid.com forums are working on it
-
@sicily428 there is no 1070 MQ version on any TF chassis as far I'm aware
My theory on Max-Q cards:
Nvidia is giving us their lower tier binned 2060 and 2070's in the form of Max-Q (possibly 2080 but not sure) They could't clock high enough even to make it as a non "A" variant of the card. Their IMCs (integrated memory controller) is also sub par and therefore we see the 2060 and 2070 MQs running the GDDR6 at lower speeds.
As always Nvidia's genius marketing: selling us lower quality silicon for more money.
Perhaps this is why I saw almost no benefit to running the 115W of the full 2070 vbios as its a slightly better binned chip (still not making it as a desktop) pushing my MAx-Q's silicon beyond what its capable, which is not much but can still be recycled as a MAx-Q card.
I could be totally wrong of course but these are my suspicions regarding the 2070 lineup in the current gen RTX laptops. I mean why would be they lower the speed of GGDR6 and not run it at ts full potential? At first I thought this was because the clocks are much lower so there is no benefit to running the GGDR6 at full speed which is true, would only really benefit of high memeory bandwith if the card is capable of pushing hard but I think its mainly the IMC that are weak and would normally have been trashed.
I can't run my memory any higher than +650 which is still 450mhz under stock specs I believe compared to the noon MQ cards.
Anyway, I don't think many of you will be surprised by this but its been on my mind and thought I'd share my thoughts because its sunday and I have time lol
I'm thinking of returning my 15" RTX ( I have keyboard issues) but don't know any other small and thin 15 inch with rtx 2070 mq besides the Razer Blade 15 that I would like and that is £600-800 more. The msi gs65 2070 is interesting but more money and I can't find reviews anywere. Not keen on the Gigabyte and I like the Lenovo Legion Y740 but its out off stock here in uk.
Maybe I'l keep this, get the keyboard fixed, and that vbios 90W working with mini dp.dreamcat4, Installed64 and seanwee like this. -
Hi there,
Do you know what is the best dock for our machine ?terrorific likes this. -
MSI GE63 Raider RGB 8SF have full RTX 2070 and is not much thicker than the TF
-
Seriously considering that MSI, shame its a little too gamery for my taste, I like the msi gs65 2070 MQ, I could dflash it to run the 90W vbios and not lose mini dp with that one at least... -
GS65 runs already very hot, don't know how will it accept the 115w
-
Don't plan on using that, I don't recommend anyone trying to flash to the full MaxP cards TDP, was just experimenting with it to see if I could get back mini dp. I'm back on stock 80W now and its still a much better GPU than in the early reviews, I have a good OC tho +165 + 650
Do you have a GS65 2070 MQ? I haven't seen any reviews yet? I expect it to perform similar to what I've got now but in a nice package with better keyboard and trackpad.... I was also getting same temps if not better with the 90W, go figure lol -
I had the 1070 a while ago but returned it due to a very high fan coil whine and annoying lag while Optimus switching.
-
anyone knows where i can get replacement thermel module/heatsink for the op15+ 8750/1060 i believe its the cause of my heat problem... when in game it goes to 95-97c thermal throttles.. 45-49w when not in game its about 46-50c @6-11w i don't think Walmart will warranty it because i thermal paste it about 8 times with different paste.. and thermal pads help

So, two months after purchase, the temps of my 15+ have gradually risen by 10 C (up to 90 C +) for both CPU and GPU when gaming under max load. I assume this is because of the thermal paste correct? To those who re-pasted, which non-liquid metal paste had the best temps?
Trevayne10 likes this. -
Did you got these temps with stock paste ? Or you re-pasted already ?
Prefer thick pastes like IC Diamond or Gelid GC Extreme. Avoid thin pastes like Noctua NT-H1 or Kryonaut that tend to pump out because of low pressure heatsink in these laptops. You can read a bit more in the post linked in my signature. See Performance chapter. -
@IKinder_Bueno For me (gk5cn5z) it is crashing in loop, any idea why ?
-
I really wanted a dock for this laptop but considering that most docks are USB-C and that our USB-C port is USB3.1 Gen1 and not video capable, the interest of having such a dock is pretty limited to have a classic USB hub... Unless I missed something ?
Great, thanks ! No more grey rectangles, yay !
In my case, after system boot, FanManager and TrayIcon tasks are in the task manager, but there is no icon in the tray. When I double click the shortcut from desktop, the icon appears in the task bar, and the UI starts, then crash after a few seconds. But FanManager and TrayIcon are still in the task manager, and the icon remains in the taskbar. It behaves the same way after a few reboots. FanManager seems to work, as the laptop is silent until it reaches about 60°C. But I cant tweak parameters because the UI crashes
Precision : I uninstalled Gaming Center and rebooted before installing Rev.center, and I de-activated TS launch at system startup.Installed64 and lKinder_Bueno like this. -

Can you check if in task manager -> service you have XTU3SERVICE enabled?
FanManager has no icon, is just a background app, so don't worry if you don't see any interface.
TrayIcon instead is just an icon in the taskbar that open the main exe, you can close it with right click ->. It's separated from the main program for a better resource managing.
When you open the app, can you click on Performance Mode, Entertainment etc etc?

correct ido have xtuservice.exe (32bits)

So: you double click on the icon, a loading icon appears, the Revcenter interface appears, and there is a loading icon on the mouse and you can't click anywhere. After 1-2 seconds it self close. Right? -
Exactly, then i manually close the app in the task barlKinder_Bueno likes this. -

Alright, probably it's an XTU3SERVICE problem.
RevCenter is waiting for info about temperature, vcore etc etc from XTU3SERVICE, but it doesn't receive anything. It's the bug I reported in the post.
Just for knowing, do you have Intel Xtreme Tuning installed? -
Yes I had it, but not anymore since a while now.

I tried to unistall Intel extreme utility and i had the same bug reported. So my tool miss some library to make it totally stand-alone.
Try to open Intel Extreme Tuning. Does it give you some error?

anyone in contact with Walmart's OP support? they're apparently getting the 20-series versions soon but I'm more interested in the 1060 17+ model from last gen. can anyone ask whether they'll be restocking that one in particular? my own query to them from a few days back has not received a reply
thanks in advance -
Following up to this (hopefully we can get this in the OP @sicily428 @Blebleuh), Lost_N_BIOS over at win-raid has been kind enough to put together a guide for us from the results of my testing as well as @pcfr33k's. It is ready to go, but modding the BIOS requires some minor effort. Only do it if you feel comfortable and have a programmer to start playing with stuff as it's very easy to screw up something. See https://www.win-raid.com/t4287f16-G...H-A-SPI-Programmer-Flasher-With-Pictures.html for how to use a very cheap $5-$10 programmer. You can use the same programmer to fully back up the EC.
Guide is here: https://www.win-raid.com/t4386f16-O...vo-MACHENIKE-Unlocked-BIOS-Guide-W-Files.html
Discussion here: https://www.win-raid.com/t4232f16-S...ns-of-rebranded-TONGFANG-chassis-systems.html
* Do NOT share any files as the FPT dump will be specific to your system. If you need any assistance, please post it @ win-raid so we don't flood this topic with hundreds of BIOS related questions.
* Please also sign up there and/or give him your thanks, he's been working with us for about 6 weeks now to figure this all out, and continues to support us and all these TONGFANG variants. They have a great community over there.
* I'm guessing a lot of people will be interested in iGFX and dGFX in the SG (switchable graphics) menu. I've done a lot of testing with this. You *can* fully disable the dGFX in the BIOS by forcing iGFX ON and turning OFF PEG (PCI express graphics) scanning and forcing it to ActiveLow. The downside of this is lower performance (basically no gaming) and inability to use any of the video out ports (e.g. HDMI). On the flipside, you will get much better battery life and don't have to worry about screen tearing and suspend/resume freezing especially in Linux.
You *cannot* fully disable the iGFX, however, and trying to do so will result in a blank screen at power up. It seems the way Optimus works is by defaulting to iGFX at bootup and switching to dGFX/iGFX in the OS. The only thing you can do here is force the NVIDIA card to ActiveHigh all the time (and hope it never switches back to iGFX), but this will obviously result in a more power hungry set up, and doesn't do anything to prevent the iGFX from kicking back on, especially when idle.Last edited: Feb 18, 2019 -
In terms of warranty, in the US, you have to damage the part yourself in order for walmart to not cover it, if there is no damage that is done on purpose, you should be fine, I recommend calling them since their email is pretty much bombarded.
Currrently, emailing them take a while since their emails are most likely bombarded unless you use the other OP emails in manual. Calling them is the only way to get a really fast response.
It's only for the 15"/17" GTX versions right?Last edited by a moderator: Feb 18, 2019derekdauzat likes this.
