the temperature on TF GK5CN6Z have been creeping up ever since I've bought it, even with an undervolt I'm hitting 93C at full load after an hour of gaming, wasn't the case when it was new, it was 85ish. thinking about repasting? I got the kryonaught the day I got the laptop cause its the best out there, but now reading all the comments I am not really sure, procuring any other good paste is hard for me. And I've already stripped one screw on the heatsink...yeah

@lKinder_Bueno I've had no Saving mode or Save button since the first build, but I have had the Single Color mode since the 1st build of R_C.

mine had been steady from new at 93 until I change the paste to Artic MX4. Then I got about 85. all this was on the original bios that came with my OP 15 GTX1060. with -140v via Intel XTU.

After my update to the new bios. my temps went crazy high 97. I thought the paste is messed up so I re did the paste, nope, same temps at 97. I solved it by re-installing intel XTU. Somehow that fixed it. Temps back at 85.

Playing Anthem really gets the heat up. Can get about 60fps on optimized setting according to the NVidia optimizer.

Need to crank almost everything off in Apex legends to get about 100 frames. "spend 10 minutes collecting weapons only to get killed randomly as I run." sums up my experience with this game.

@lKinder_Bueno this is what it looks like for many users using Rev Center 2. Also I think the Neon Lighting effect speed needs to have an adjusted speed range or/and an epilepsy warning, the lighting flashes faster enough to cause one.

Try this with Apex legends, go into video settings and change the resolution down one notch but keep it in native. It reduced the GPU usage from 99% to around 70-88% and the laptop stays around 70' on both CPU and GPU without using turbo fans, I've been messing around in a lot of different games and this laptop runs the same, if not better, than my xbox1x, in my opinion. :D

Is it normal that I have around 1000 CPU score in CINBENCHR? Temperature goes up to 96 C. After I can't make a test after undervolting to -125mV because my laptop keeps freezing. I haven't made any changes like updating BIOS etc. Any solutions? (I have 150W power brick and 2060)

The power brick that most laptop were shipped with the RTX 2060 was 180w, I would upgrade that brick.

Hi, could you upload your bios version for GK5CN5Z?
Is it the latest from pc specialist?

    Thanks

I think that scales the rendering to less than 1080P. Which lowers the workload but sacrifices visual fidelity. I will test it out to see if it's better looking than turning down the other stuff. Frame rate is the most important for this type of game so I'm aiming for close to 144hz with as much of the fancy graphics stuff on.

Hi, the bios was already installed when PCS sent me the laptop. I do not have the bios files, but maybe if you write to PCS you send them (even in my personal PCS-downloads there is no bios).

Suprisingly, in specification on my seller's site (Hyperbook.pl) they wrote that with this notebook the 150W powerbrick is in standard, but mine is FSP180 (180 stands for 180W I suppose, because 150W models has FSP150 in name). Do you have also RTX version?

If you are hitting 96c temp you need to repaste. Higher temp = CPU needs more voltage = thermal throttling and slower performance.

Has anyone seen if there's anyplace I could find the 17" model's keyboard / keycaps? I am pretty used to the noisy switches, but for touch typing flat keycaps make it hard for me to feel for key positions with my fingers, the keycaps on 17 model look much better for this reason.

What are the OC settings that it uses? Is this viewable in the app, or posted somewhere? Is there a way to manually change the settings for ourselves?

100% correct. I left my no-name SATA3 256GB SSD as my Win10 boot drive, and I use my 500GB Samsung Evo 970 NVMe SSD for gaming (Overwatch, CS:GO, etc.), and also for small video editing/rendering projects.

Both the SATA3 and NVMe SSDs boot to a usable desktop in about 14 seconds, so there's really no point in cloning Win10 over to the NVMe SSD.

I set up a 3 GB R/W RAM cache for both SSDs, using Romex Software's excellent PrimoCache. Of course, with benchmarks I get around 9 GBps R/W sequential on each SSD (500 MPBs 4K random R/W), but that's actual RAM speed.

    PrimoCache is here: http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-cache/download.html

The main benefit of PrimoCache is that if you configure it right, it cuts way down on writing blocks to the SSDs, which helps to drastically extend their useful life (along with a 12% raw over-provisioning partition, which I always set up on SSDs, right off the bat). I set 300 sec (5 minute) latency on "lazy" write commits for each SSD (zero risk for FS corruption; it's a laptop with its own built-in UPS).

    - Trev

ps - I am in no way a shill for, or compensated by, RomexSoftware or any of its affiliates or unmitigated lackeys. Although they do make massively cool software.

I have gj5cn6e and few small problems. 1st is that from some of the things i read here keyboard seems capable of outputting white color. Is there a way to use it without installing another software(like MyApp). Secondly, i installed a 1tb hdd and gaming center wakes up hdd is there a way to stop it? Lastly can i disable on screen indicators like capslock(im already used to having no caps light since my last laptop had none. When i press capslock,on screen indication comes up and curser goes of focus so i have to click into the place where i was typing, to continue typing which absolutely causes me to not use capslock at all)

@yprime Try to disable one or both of these processes on startup: OSDTpDetect and OOBEI2CTpOnOffDetect

I haven’t tested this with Gaming Center, but it’s worth a try. Either reboot after disabling on startup, or just manually kill the process(es).

Just download RevCenter to get the white color, it’s a customized and better version of Gaming Center.

I actually use MyApp personally, and it’s great too. The only game I’ve had trouble with online is Apex Legends, (some games think it’s a cheat) but killing the process is easy to allow online multiplayer.

@Trevayne10 Sweet looking software. This looks similar or identical to Samsung Rapid technology. There are some dangers/downsides to using that however, and I’ve opted not to use it: especially since the benefits are practically unnoticeable.

    FAN MANAGER 1.0
    Compatible with:
    GK5CN5Z / GK5CN6Z / GK5CQ7Z / GK5CP0Z
    GK7CN6S / GK7CP0S / GK7CP7S
    Source code avaible

I'm glad to show you my latest tool: Fan Manager

    What is Fan Manager?
Fan Manager is a really low-weight tool that helps you better managing your laptop's fans speed.
It is thought for users that prefer to use Gaming/Control Center instead of Rev.Center2.0 or for who doesn't want to use any other utility.

Why I should use this FanManager if there is already one on Gaming/Control Center?
Because Fan Manager is much more accurate, reactive and customizable then the one from Tongfang. A lot of time Gaming/Control Center active fans also if temps are lower.

There will be incompatibility with TongFang Gaming/Control Center?
Fan Manager is created to be compatible with all TongFang laptop.

Can I use Rev.Center2 and this Fan Manager?
Fan Manager is totally based on Rev.Center2 source code, so it is not really useful using both tools.

    FEATURES:
    • Automatic Fan (EC) : Stock Laptop fan managing. Fans are controlled by the BIOS and not by FanManager.
    • Turbo Fan Mode: Turbo Fan Boost Mode.
    • Silent Fan Mode: Automatically change Fan Speed to guarante the most quiet fans without worring about temperature).
    • Static Fan Mode: Choose a fan speed regardless of temperatures.
    • Advanced Fan Mode: Create your custom Fan Speed Graphs

Yes. During the installation you can choose between Automatic Tuning or Manual Tuning.
With the first option the tool will enable my "ideal" settings. (-12
With the second option you can freely use any software as Intel Extreme Tuning or Throttlestop

    Rev.Center2 Settings are:
    -0.250V for CPU Offset voltage
    -0.133V for Cache Offset voltage
    35W-35W for Powersaving,Silent, Entertainment Mode.
    50W-70W for Performance Mode.
Powersaving and Silent Mode enable a special setting that limit CPU clock at 1300MHz.

Months ago I made a video on how update the Bios on Tongfang laptop. If you need help write me a PM.
    (skip the Tuning part)

Hi all, I'm new here and I've been following this long 3d for a while. So many advice here!
I purchased this chassis (recoil II, gtx1060, 16g ram single channel). Here my issues/ first look impressions:
The gaming center (latest pcs) hasn't the control for the rgb bar and it's always turned off. I can't control the bar 'cause there is no switch. Maybe I've a buggy GC.
Poor fan control: "crude" fan fit, i set first level on 45° but when the fan starts never turn down even with lower temp.
Annoing coil whine noise on the HDD area.. seems having an other little fan, even the HDD is very noisy.
I tested just battle royale and it's very smooth ca 80-100fps, temperature of cpu-gpu near 70-80C (with cupid monitor, hwinfo, afterburner, xtu)
On Xtu I've some "current trottle limitation" and the active power under low (cpu) is just 19W... not so good
If I remove power supply (180W) the fps drop to 2 (TWO fps !! It's possible ?), it's impossible to use without supply... even my aspire vx15 is better with a gtx1050 on battery mode!

It sounds like the iGPU is taking over when the power is unplugged so when you're gaming it's not making use of the 1060 gpu.

IKinder_bueno: Does the fan adjustments stay in effect once your program has been closed?

    Hello all,

I have a quick question on power settings.

Each time I close the laptop and travel with it, I have no more battery when I re-open it.

When I close the laptop, it just enter in standby mode and that's it. I don't understand why such the battery is draining while it is in standby. My previous laptops always keep all the battery ! Not sure I understand the issue....

    Any help ?

Here just an opinion you remind me about, but I'm not sure it's the cause: I noticed there is some coil whine (at the botton, close to the ram) even in standby, it means there is still some leak. An other issue I noticed is that the alluminum case acts as a ground conductor.. if you brush the case with one hand you can clearly feel a current tingle. I don't know if it's just mine or every case do that. Maybe someone else notices it.

I re-pasted the OP 15+ for the first time and saw the terrible stock paste job. It had leaked all over the mobo near both the CPU and GPU, and little of the paste remained over the dies. Cleaned it up and used Arctic Silver 5, instant 15 C lower temps. Temps are lower than when it was new and I couldn't be happier.

Can someone point me towards some throttlestop profiles for max performance and max battery life respectively, along with any undervolt/overclock MSI Afterburner settings? I feel ready to max this laptop out now.

You can just go into Rev Center settings (gear icon) and enable "ThrottleStop compatibility" to use your own voltage settings with TS.

Do you have issues with the latest cumulative update for windows (KB4482887)?
Installing it I have a massive drop in fps while gaming (GTA V) on an external screen and also windows animations seems less smooth with some lags.
The strange thing is that the FPSmeter always measures around 60fps as usual. It happens only on external monitor and uninstalling the update all works as usual.
I tried to reinstall the update, reinstall nvidia drivers and connect the monitor to another port but nothing changed.
My config is in my signature, currently I'm using OP 1.05 BIOS with GC 2.0.1.3.

You mean the roll of vinyl? I just bought a cheap one on Amazon. There are plenty to choose from. Some people recommend the more expensive 3M ones for better results.

I repasted with Artic MX4, at first it was much cooler at 78 but after a few days, it went back to over 90. Let us know how the Artic 5 does after a few days. Someone else mentioned thinner thermal paste "pumps" out so he went with ic diamond or gc gelid and it worked. I dunno man, getting a little frustrated having to open the laptop up so many times. I'm undervolting by 0.140 too but it still goes over 90.

I stripped a screw too after my second time re-pasting. Found a place to buy them for cheap. It will take them 2 months to mail this but they are a legit site.

Hoping the artic 5 that AyoMayo tried works after a few days with no pumping out.

Another solution is to put aluminum foil under the main screw of the heat sink. It has a spring on it that applies pressure. Inserting foil under the spring will give it more pressure. I will try that next.

I noticed yesterday that core 0,2,4 temps were > 5 C higher than core 1,3,5 temps, so I took apart the laptop again. I saw your solution about topmost CPU screw applying not enough pressure, so I screwed it back in with some aluminium foil. Also loosened the bottom two screws CPU screws by 180 degrees and now temp differences between cores are at most 2 C and the CPU itself has on avg 1 C lower temp during max gaming load. MHW, a pretty CPU demanding title, maxes out at 82 C with max settings and uncapped FPS right now. So far so good.

That's awesome to hear. I'm going to try decreasing the pressure on the bottom two screws as well to see if my temps improve. My 0,2,4 were also the higher ones.
