Why would this expierience turn you off of buying Compal? You don't have the Compal. If it's a great laptop for a great price it once you -do- get it, I would think you would certainly consider them again. I don't think shipping/mfg delays are limited only to Compal, nor does Compal always ship delayed.

Besides, Compal is the 2nd largest ODM. Ruling out them, really limits your future choices unless you don't care about $$. I could care less about Compal vs Asus, I just want the best for the money with the best support. I'll wait for it.

Dell was also compensating their customers quite well for their extended wait.

This is getting ridiculous. I've been waiting for 40 days. I know some have waited longer but I needed this BEFORE school started and now I don't even know if I'll have it by then. I could have easily gotten a Sony Vaio FZ or CR or maybe a Dell XPS m1330 or Inspiron 1520, but I researched a lot and decided on Sager 5 and a half weeks ago.

Once again I know it's not Powernotebooks fault, but Sager/Compal are really dropping the ball and without any compensation. Horrible experience for a first laptop purchase.

I know how you feel. I have been waiting almost 70 days, 9 weeks.

I have been vacillating over the weekend about should I cancel my order or not and buy an Asus G1S.
I contacted Xotic about ordering a G1S from them. I told him about my wait with the Compal and he said that the WSXGA+ screen from Compal would not be in until maybe the end of this week or possibly next (August 17th). Add another week at least on for testing and shipping and you are looking at the 3rd week of August at the very earliest. Keep in mind that there are a bunch of us that have ordered way before you.
Not sure when you school starts but.........
Its only the matte screen option that has held me here this long. Don't even care about the money anymore, although Compal should pay for this fiasco IMHO.

How is Dell compensating their customers? Other than upgrading to free NBD shipping I've never heard of Dell doing anything and I've been purchasing from them on a regular basis for a long time.

I know that for the XPS m1330 they give you a free carrying bag, but idk about compensation for any other laptops they offer.

Well they aren't going to just offer it. You usually have to call and request compensation. I know many people who've ordered the 1520 and received laptop backpacks and others who've received $100 discounts.

I wasn't offered an upgrade to two day shipping for my IFL90 until I emailed them and tried to cancel my order.

well hopefully you guys will get it faster, I ordered mine on June 4th, and canceled my order today. decided to go with the powerpro 9:6, the asus s96s.
I should get it by the end of the week or next week. I needed it before school so it was the only way to go.

I'm still waiting on the shipping e-mail. Good thing I have school right now to distract me for a bit. I still wish I had it so I could put my notes straight onto the Powerpoints rather than write it out...oh well. I hope I get it this week. If not, I'm definitely going to cancel.

I can't really see how having to wait a verifiable ****ing **** ton longer than you were supposed to have to, with no real information couldn't be a turn off.

I'm not saying I wouldn't consider them again, but I'm not going to pretend to not be incredibly frustrated.

VALID shipping times would be glorious or at least explanations as to why their shipments didn't come when expected to the resellers. if they'd just communicate with any sort of reliance it wouldn't be so bad. I think THATS why people are pissed at Compal right now.

I hope that is what everyone keeps in mind.... This fiasco lies purely on Compal's shoulders.
Powernotebooks has been fantastic for me, the problem is they don't know anything more than we do.
I would like to meet the CEO and Production Manager of Compal. It would be a very frank discussion. Courteous, but frank.

highly unlikely, did you order sager or the power pro? if it where sager you would have a chance to get in the next shipment (assuming it even arrives this month) but if you ordered the power pro I doubt you will have it by that time, you could call them but no one has an ETA so that would not do you any good.

Yeah where is the Compal rep to put up with our *****ing and griping (for good reason). Not only do they owe all of us an explaination and apology but our resellers too.

Frankly Im not sure how this will effect my next notebook purchase... I'm not putting up with this again though...

I know. So far the resellers have been the only ones putting up with our *****ing and ranting. They should really forward all the complaints to Compal as I feel bad for the resellers. They've had to put up with quite a bit and they've been really professional about it.

So I think I'm going to change my order.

    What has:
    - A dx10 compatible GPU
    - Santa Rosa Processor (About 2.2 Ghz?)
    - 15.4 inch WSXGA screen
    - Windows XP Pro Pre-installed
    - 1 stick of 2 Ghz Ram
    - 3-4 hours of battery life
    - 7200 RPM HD (About 160 GB?)

    For under 2000 dollars?

Also I'll be taking it around campus, so things like blinking green eyes of doom tend to be a big negative. They tend to scare the ladies.

Here was how my IFL90 was configured:

I hear a lot of people sticking to the IFL90 because it goes in accordance with business affairs. However, I am now with the Asus G1S. I hear that its actually better for gaming since it has DDR3. If you don't agree with me on that then you will on this: 1 week shipping! WAY better than the IFL90! Just ask your retailer to switch to the Asus. It's worth it. I hated coming to these forums since I never had my new laptop. That's not the case anymore.

I'm considering changing my order from XoticPC to a G1S now. The only problems are it costs more and has worse battery life. I heard the battery was about 2.5 hours in power saving mode? That's a bit low :( Also configuring it like I had my IFL90 is going to be at least a couple hundred more

Better spot in line doesn't matter when they don't think the WSXGA's will be in this week or the next. I could be number 1 in the next shipment but if it doesnt come in until september that doesn't help me :(

I don't know if it's better than nothing. It is if they ship it to you without messing up what you actually ordered. I've heard about Micro Express. Read more at RR http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Micro_Express. Afterall, they score worse than Dell for customer satisfaction! PNB and Xotic seem to be the best for support and product knowledge.

Okay, so I just talked to my reseller (PCTorque), and I was told that they will be receiving two shipments from Compal on August 16 and 20. I don't know the situation in Xotic and PNB, but it would be great if similar good news comes true, finally clearing the backorder. Steve, the really courteous and all-around nice rep, even promised me that he would pay specific attention to my order, so that I would receive my laptop before uni starts.

I was told repeatedly that my Sager would "definitely" arrive before the end of August, and hopefully, it isn't just optimism speaking :)

I only ordered on July 29th, so a month-long wait for a such a popular model is pretty darn good :D

I leave for college the 21st, having ordered my Compal from PNB mid June, I would hope I can get mine before then.

It's ridiculous that they would get a shipment like once every 1.5 months.

But alas, it IS all compals fault.

Here's a hypothetical question. If the laptop I ordered doesn't ship before I go off to college, but I decide to keep waiting for it and go without a laptop for a while, would I be able to change the shipping address of the order (another state)? Would it change the shipping fees, etc.?

I'm guessing the correct answer is "ask your reseller", but if someone knows off the top of their heads that'd work too >__>.

And slightly related, I recall reading somewhere on these forums that you have to have a 21+ y/o sign for the shipment. I can't find the post again, so... which reseller(s) is/are doing this? Anyone who received their laptops, did you have to do this?

Got mine today! So far it is a sweet laptop! It did get a little hot on the bottom, when I had it on my lap, but not too bad. There seems to be some flex on the bezel that holds the screen on one side. Also mine doesn't have a sticker on the back! I e-mailed Xotic. Hope they send me one. :p

UPS actually has the option to require a signature or an adult signature, so it's up to the sender to decide.
