Donald's announcement that they were taking preorders is here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=1980645&postcount=1
That was posted on May 19th. May 19th to June 19th is one month, June 19th to July 19th is another month. People can't have waited for more than a little over two months on backorder.
-
Pre-ordering something is perfectly acceptable, there is always a wait. But when a product is on the market, ready to sell, and having delayed shipments is absurd. Especially since there is a great deal of money.
-
-
The shipments to Europe apparently did not get bottlenecked as I remember people saying they ordered the WSXGA screen and ended up getting them in a week. So I don't think its a shortage of shipments, but rather a decision to give the US market the short end of the stick and supply the European market with more shipments. I'm not sure what the reason is. But someone somewhere at Compal apparently made this decision. As customers we are entitled to complain if a company promises a certain time frame and doesn't deliver. Its what drives competition and in the end capitalism.
-
I know I will. -
Syntax however this has been an inconvience which has not been dealt with professionally by Compal I dont think you can deny that.
...I also shot Compal an email and mentioned compensation for the customers, I'll post if I get a reply. -
Of course we can complain if we want. True patience is a virtue, but this is not the way a huge company should handle such expensive products. It's simple though, the company has to respect it's customers and show that respect. Otherwise the customers will not trust that company or not like it, and move away from it. Along with those customers goes the money that the company wants. A lot of people read these forums and the things people say here affect outsiders looking to buy a laptop from compal for example greatly. I think it is compal's best interest to look after these things, because after all, with any company dealing expensive goods it's all about the reputation.
EDIT: what we can do is send complaints to the company and look for some sort of a compensation for this ridiculous wait. It may not even be Compal's direct fault (I was told by someone at powernotebooks.com that they were ready to ship but found a design flaw and had to refix all of the models which is what ultimately caused this whole mess) but they should realize what a delay like this means and act accordingly towards the customers that are purchasing from them. -

I got mine today. A very nice machine. I installed XP Pro and had fun hunting for drivers.
BTW, if you get a bare drive like I did, watch out for this:

I learned something new today. -
Review please? -
Could someone give me an email address that I can send a complaint to
-
-
That might work, it's their "business contact". -
I hope my laptop ships this week...school is looming ahead of me in one week....
-
-
-
Not yet. I think I'm going to deffer my loans so that I pay them off after college. The amount that it increases due to interest is crazy though.
-
Guys im also going to college soon, but can we keep this thread about the laptop and not personal facts/information. If you would like to discuss college than just PM eachother. Thank you

Steven -
Thanks. -
lol to add to I love lamp's (love the name) question, from whom did you order?
-
If you visit the powernotebooks web site, it looks like they are only offering the IFL's in 1680x1050 now
-
I think I was mentioned on like one of the earlier pages...was just skimming and saw my name and confusion on my situation.
Basically, I ordered a highly customized IFL90 WXGA+ on July 8th and was shipped on July 20th a FL90[sic] that lacked a fingerprint reader and was a WXGA (256MB instead of 512MB 8600GT) among the more minor differences.
Xoticpc has been really kind and will reimburse me a fair price for the features that I am lacking. Although the customer service was initially terrible in terms of shipping the wrong product and other things I'm too tired to list, they redeemed themselves in my eyes by complying with my demands for a solution to all the drama.
So, yeah, I guess I got mine sooner than some of you...but that's because I was shipped a FL90 with WXGA (no fingerprint reader)...I'm keeping it because it's too much hassle to return the laptop. If I could go back in time, I would never have ordered this model and went with soemthing else and with another reseller. My experience has been atrocious, but the results are satisfactory to say the least. -
Question: Is the second shipment due to begin this coming up monday?
-
-
An error maybe? When I ordered, there was an error in one of their configuration screens.
-
-
Xotic doesnt have the WXGA on their Compal configurator either, just WXGA+ and WSXGA+. Sager still lists the WXGA though.... *shrug*

I am sadly reporting that I am leaving the Sager family and cancelling the order. I ordered the WSXGA+ screen on July 6 and I called and was told that I won't recieve it until late August. So, I'm switching to the Asus like many other people are. Only I am concerned about some parts of the hardware.
First of all I know that the video card on the Asus is different. I want the option of playing awesome games like maybe the upcoming Crysis. The Asus has a 512MB nVidia 8600GT. The difference is that its Turbo Cache but on the plus side it has GDDR3 instead of the Sager's GDDR2. Which video card performs better, is there at all any difference?
Second, to save money I would choose the 2.2GHz processor instead of the 2.4. I hear that there is no difference really between the two but in the future will the 2.4GHz be needed and worth it?
Third, I do want to play awesome games. Having more RAM does help somewhat. Is 3GB good? Will not having the dual memory be a negative thing? I want to save money and not go for 4GB if possible.
Lastly, is it worth getting the dead pixel insurance. I don't want any dead pixels.
Thanks for reading, its a long post but I just am getting tired of waiting and then hearing that it will take longer for the shipment. Thanks for the help. -
I don't think you are going to notice a huge difference between the GDDR2 and the GDDR3. As for going with the 2.2GHz it's a smart choice. You will save alot of money and theres no real noticeable difference. 3 gigs of memory should be plenty.
-
Sad to see you go.
The Asus (G1S, right?) has a better 8600m GT because its VRAM is clocked higher than the Sager NP2090s, which would indicate the the G1S would have GDDR3, whatever good that'll do you.
The 2.2GHz processor seems prudent, but IMO, I think the T7300 is fine for gaming, I don't know how "future proof" that may be but not a lot of programs, including games, max out the processors, so if you want to save money, don't dive for the T7700 because of the cost and the benefits just don't justify it.
The RAM is good, if you're doing 64 bit, 4GB is possible, but all-in-all, 2GB is still considered to be a good amount of RAM, even today. Not having dual channel isn't really an issue, either, you won't notice the reported 2-5% difference in performance anyways.
Dead pixel insurance seems like a waste of money to me, you can always return a laptop in some other pretext such as "I am not satisfied with it anymore" while you order a duplicate laptop. Asus is a high quality manufacturer, I'm sure they test out many laptop screens for dead pixels, much like Sager does. -
LBThorn,
I kind of envy you.
I ordered mine on June 18th, so I'm in the situation where I can't decide whether to cancel or to wait. -
Donald tells me that they are in full mass production now and they should be filling in all of the orders soon. We'll see I guess (same motto that we've all had for months now)
-
Thanks guys for your help. I am going to get the Asus G1S. Xoticpc says that it can be shipped right away so that is perfect for me. Recieving the computer in late August is ludicrous. I go to school then and I just can't afford that loss. Thanks to Justin and Donald though for the updates.
GOOD-BYE SAGER FAMILY! GOOD LUCK! -
-
If they were filling all orders soon, I dont think Thorn would have been told late August, would he? If early July pre-orders are looking at late August I won't be hanging around much longer either.
-
-
-
I wonder if they removed the WXGA because it only comes on the FL90 and not the IFL90?
sco_fri didn't you pre-order in June? I pre-ordered June 11th and I thought you pre-ordered well before me. Also remember that LBThorn ordered a Sager 2090 (not sure if that makes a difference though).

I pre-ordered in late May with PNB and a glossy screen, and cancelled when the mattes were the only options in WSXGA. After deciding glossy wasnt a big deal and once the WXGA started appearing, I got hopeful and ordered again, this time a Sager through Xotic, so that I had the G1S as a backup if the IFL90 remained out of my grasp. After all this I think I am either getting the IFL90 or nothing... I will just update my desktop or something LOL
1st pre-order, May 24
2nd pre-order July 2nd -
I don't want to get blamed for anything on top of waiting with you guys for so damn long.
-
though of course sales reps always give buyers the optimistic side of things -
-
Hey guys, I ordered from xoticpc and from the resellers perspective on the phone they said that everything was still behind schedule including the regular wxga screens. The Asus, my replacement, is the exact same depending on how it is configured. The video card is different but some say the Asus has the better performance. And here's the best part. I ordered the Asus today...and I'll have it in less than a week! Compare this to the Sour Sager Shipment of Shame and tell me what you think.
-
Just opened my IFL90
This is my first laptop, and I never use them so my first impressions may be strange. The bottom says its the FL90 though. Hrm
Nice big screen, going to start loading windows soon. There is no logo for the powerpro on the back on laptop. And I dont have a fingerprint reader?
Its a bit shaky or uneven on flat desk, when I type it moves back and forth a bit. Not sure if thats how they all are.
Steven -
Can you take a few pictures, so we can confirm/deny the shipment of FL-90s?
-
Stevonio, who did you order from, when, and what type of screen?
