The sticker at the bottom of the machine in your picture says FL90. Call PowerNotebooks to sort this out. From what I understand Compal messed up in the information they gave the resellers and some people are getting FL90s instead of IFL90s.

jesus this is just a mess from top to bottom. Anyways I'm a little unclear on the second shipment and such, some people are canceling because the reseller told them that they won't recieve it until late August. Yet, many are saying it will easily make it before that date. What's the deal

Just make sure you have hard proof of the estimated delivery dates; I'd hate for you to make a bad decision based off of erroneous information you might have received from the forums. You could try both Powernotebooks and XoticPC for an estimated time and judge from there.

Great, I go with the non Sager rebrand due to a better warranty, and now they are shipping out FL-90s instead of IFL-90s? I ordered in the 13th of July, knowing that I could afford to wait because I didn't need it until September 11th or so. If it takes 2 months to get to me that'll be absolutely absurd.

hahaha wow. You would think they would at LEAST check to see if it is the right laptop before they send it to you. That's just the icing on the cake for this whole fiasco isn't it.

Here's the deal. The reports we get from forum members about deadlines are fairly thin on details. There's always some piece of information missing. What screen did they order? Did they order a Sager or one of the Compals built by PowerNotebook, XoticPC or some other reseller? What optional parts did they order with their notebook? (Some people have been saying that parts are no longer a hold-up but that does not seem so clear to me.) When did they put the order?
When they say they won't be able to get their laptop in time for school beginning August 15th does it mean that they wanted delivery by August 14th or that they are moving into a dorm a week earlier and so need it by August 7th?
We also don't know what the discussion between the person reporting and the reseller was. Some important details may be missing.
That's why I only listen to my reseller regarding shipping dates. -
Yea, I contacted Justin last night, he told me that I was probably in the 2nd or 3rd shipment however they dont really know when the second shipment is due. Terrific

Well, most people if they are going to cancel will get the correct story once they contact their reseller anyway, but don't fly off the handle on anyone based on what someone posts in here. If you are concerned, call them up and see what the real scoop is.

Why is it that when I contact XoticPC I get told that they don't have an ETA for my order? Everyone else seems to get one...

No one really has any type of solid ETA unless you've gotten the shipping email, which is very few of us.

Do you guys know what is really crappy about this whole situation? It seems as though going to other laptop makers that have a 8600GT is a huge wait also (Dells). This pretty much leaves us with the Asus G1S or nothing. Having no alternative options is pretty annoying since a lot of us need the laptops by mid August. I don't think I've waited for any "product" this long considering that all that money could have been sitting in my account gaining interest.

I just called xotic and they told me they had no updates for my WXGA screen, on wednesday they told me I was looking at mid august for mine, I ordered on Monday and need it by August 13.

I e-mailed Xotic today after I read someone on the forums who ordered after me had their laptop shipped. I haven't gotten a response yet. If I am in the second shipment and if Justin gives any details about that, I'll let you know. I'm pretty sure if its mid august, then I'm going to cancel.

I just emailed xotic to discuss my order cancellation and they told me I am "one of the lucky few whose machine will be shipping next week."

I just called another reseller asking for the compal IFL 90(not the sager), and they told me that they expect the IFL by next week, I asked him if I order today when should I expect it and he said they could ship it by the end of next week, the lower resolution IFL(WXGA) he said the wsxga would probably be by the end of next month... Now this opens up another possibility of ordering with a vendor with not so many preorders....

StoCom is pretty much in the front of the line for those who have preordered, his order date is so early that he's pretty much guaranteed a laptop because the new shipment contains WSXGA+ screens.

Is it just me, or does anybody else consider it pretty shoddy customer service to accept full payment for a product that can't be delivered just to "hold a spot in line"?

Wow. I made a change to my order and the response from Donald at PowerNotebooks was pretty quick. I called Thursday evening last week close to the end of business. I left a message for him. Later that night I wrote an email because I figured he would not be able to get back to me before I took the plane the next day. He read my email carefully and answered by email as I had requested. I read his reply and asked him to change my order. I got an updated order from him on Saturday.
