Nope, no new updates, but you can expect the Criterion really soon.

DarkSmiley told me to answer any questions about the Criterion or Dark Smiley Systems while he's gone. If you have any, PM me or post them here. Thanks guys!
-
That's just stupid. Am I not advertising my website in my signature? Like thousands other people on this forum??
And other retailers like Justin and Paladin44 have links to their websites in their signatures...
Edit:
@Michael: so is there any ETA on the laptop? -
this is reallyy pissing me off..
First killernotebooks, now shane as well
We were all expecting benchies and pics from darksmiley and now hes banned?!
is xoticpc and powernotebooks paying NBR or something? Cause they advertise their website and their products as well.
If i get banned, my new account will be 'vsyncr' he he -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
good point, i didnt know that kn got banned too, it does seem very weird that all of the little companies are getting band. can a moderator remove the ban or please explain it a little more than "he was advertising his company too much"?
thankyou -
yeah without explanation of these bans it's very dissappointing ..

BTW, guys he told me everything he got an infraction for (it was a little more than this, but it was less "serious" than these):
Posting the release date for SLI 9800M GTXs in the NP9262 when Sager said he could.
Having a link to the Criterion on his sig. He said that the admins said that it was okay for him to have, but someone edited it out and gave him an infraction.
The final infraction he got...
He got an infraction for posting a link to DarkSmiley's warranty.
I don't want to get banned, but I don't want to see new resellers struggle on these forums...
I don't get why all the links to his site were removed from the thread.
On a side note, he told me that OCZ is investigating the agent that sold him the parts for the Criterion since he's selling it so cheap compared to the other resellers.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
so im just wondering what he did wrong... is his warranty illegal or what? i thought that we were able to post links.
ive also seen many people tell the release date for the 9800M GTX SLI, heck, isint there a thread with a few pages talking about it in the clevo forums? -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
HA PAGE 4, JUSTIN POSTED AN ETA AS WELL, IS HE BANNED, I DONT THINK SO!!!!
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=288246&page=4 - - - post 33
please explain because i believe that i am right, but it would then make no sense. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
I think NBR's reason to ban him was because he discussed more than his laptops on the forum and had the Criterion in his sig, which NBR told him he could do. They weren't really crappy comments there just to advertise his sig, even though he's a notebook retailer he should be allowed to discuss other things, it is a forum after all...
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i still dont see how thats a problem, many people on here talk about computers they dont have,
well im going to bed and would like to see some "real" reasons to why he got banned -
There are a published set of reseller rules, rules that we warn resellers about and expect them to abide to.
When they don't, it is timeout time. In this case, three days. -

please take heaps of photos for us rob. i cant wait!
and the reason killernotebooks got banned was just stupid. apparantly, every post regarding them got deleted after some incident, and some poor guy got banned after talking about them! in fact, many people got banned for NBR thought they were KN clone accounts....
wierd -
I did some homework on Dark Smiley Systems before buying from them. I don't want to start a flame war or insult anyone. I simply want to pass along information that I learned. Shane Collins is 16 years old and in high school, he has no experience building notebooks.
If you need anything more than that you can read a post I put up here.
http://guruofgaming.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=23934#23934
Again, I am not putting this up to insult the guy or the company. This is something that people should know. -
Thanks for that Gunner!
Certainly an interesting read... -
I was pretty shocked myself. I thought there was something weird because he wanted to charge my credit card for a system. Then he couldn't tell me when it would ship. Then he said that it might not be released with the 8800 GTX that I wanted. If that happened I wouldn't get all my money back because of credit card processing fees!
-
This is certainly revealing, bit surprising as I read this from my office. Then again, I was a sophomore in High School when I built and sold computer systems to medical offices, including my parents' clinic. Didn't have a fancy website or anything like that
Because I pre-ordered this from him, I'm going to wait until this thing starts shipping (to all vendors), and if he pulls through and I receive the machine in my hands, then I would be able to judge the legitimacy of DarkSmileySystems. So there you go, I'm the test mule if you think about it this way. -
Good luck. Hope he doesn't go spend all your money on SoBe's.

Sorry Shane, but I think that I might try to sell my lighting software to somebody else. I don't have a problem buying from a 16 year-old as long as they're professional, but I don't think you're really what you appear to be. -
I was really looking forward to the OCZ Whitebook when the new ati gpu's got stuffed into them.Seems like you cant trust anyone online these days . So in the words of that geeky pot smoker...Dude your getting a Dell (for myself anyhow)

BTW, I'd like to point out that Dark Smiley Systems doesn't have a return policy. Buying from them might not be the best idea.

Hi guys,
I just found a video today with 3dMark06 Benchmark scenes:
http://www.mycizmo.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=72&
products_id=197
I believe that´s the notebook you are talking about ;-)
14850points in 3D Mark06... too bad I already bought a notebook two months ago :-( This gaming machine is really cool. -
holy...14,800 pts? very nice! Want to see some game benchmarks. Bah...too bad I pre-ordered it with the P8400.
Edit: Also, how did they get it so fast? Apparently it hasn't started shipping in the US yet according to most US retailers. -
There site says Sept. 23'rd they get them.
I hope this 14,800 is for real. That is incredible!
Nice find... I'm repping you for that! -
I keep getting product not found
-
His link got cut off. It is http://www.mycizmo.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=72&products_id=197
-
What other options do US buyers have?
-
Well, you have at least three other options:
-Killernotebooks (top of the line): http://www.killernotebooks.com/nagamaki/nagamaki_order_page.html
-RK Computers: http://www.rkcomputer.net/rkcnotebooks/index.php?l=product_detail&p=95
-CyberPowerPC: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_M1/
I've only treated with Mark (K|N) and his service (as well as his products) are top notch. Can't go wrong with him, really.
As far as RK Computers, they have actively taken part in this thread. Have no first hand experience.
Hope it helps! -
Wow imagine with the new ati's that are coming!!! im pretty excited almost time to order
-
wow, 15,000 3dmarks!
haha, darksmiley got absolutely owned by RunningGunner. its just like the time the guys at BMWworld (i think the name is wrong) owned a fake who was selling false items...
btw, dont forget about killernotebooks. sure, they might be expensive but their service is top notch and their mods are awesome. i might just get a ocz whitebook but lately ive been thinking about getting a really suped up desktop and a vaio fw. but still, the prospect of a laptop thats only 1.67in thick that gets the same as a 9262 in 3dmark06...
lol, that really got off track -

- Buy a web page template http://www.templatesbox.com/ ( Killer you can use that link IF YOU WANT
)
- Do some paperwork.
- Post stuff on a forum.
- Viola you are a business.
Off topic, how do I add a picture to my name? - Buy a web page template http://www.templatesbox.com/ ( Killer you can use that link IF YOU WANT
-
RG, thanks for bringing the "dark" to light.
-
No problem.

Red flags were raised after his comments about the backlit keys colors and how they can only be set through the BIOS. And after asking him about Intel Robson, I became even more suspicious. He seemed to be somewhat clueless about it and finally stated that he couldn't get any supplier for it; which I found quite odd.
I guess from now on I will demand verification of all businesses before I lay down $4000+ bucks for a notebook. It's only natural to become suspicious about a business when you go on their websites and cannot find a physical address, contact phone number, photos of the actually facility, and photos of the staff. -
so running gunner, you going to get from killernotebooks?
-
bah, give him a break. Heard about enough of this issue for a while, would rather talk about the notebook itself. You'll have to admit that he got a lot of people interested in this thing.
Anyways, here's an article from Tom's hardware regarding this notebook with the Quad Core Extreme mobile processor (QX9300):
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/idf-mobile-gaming-graphics-montevina,6216.html
It's more about the features of the Quad Core extreme, but it also shows a bit of what the notebook is capable of. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
wow ok, anyone know of a company i can get this from in canada?
-
- Pre-order special of 4 GB for the price of 2 GB
- About the same price as CyberPowerPC
- CPpc did not offer the second hard drive and said the system only had 1 hard drive :confused2:
- Previous reviews
- His Odachi system (supposedly) won that notebook contest thingy
- Knowledge/skill level
Off topic... I feel stupid again asking how to add a picture to my name since I figured how to use the super smileys. -

Real easy, I'll PM you and explain............. -
I dont want to be the wet blanket in this
but putting a car level investment into hardware that is unknown is a really bad idea
I just have to think, if ati crossfire was so great why doesnt alienware sell this arima and not the m17?
it just seems so risky until you see the thing works and doesnt melt.
ati is sort of a big company. Why is the first ati crossfire notebook a no name brand?
Arima is a very small manufacturer even on the wholesale level why isnt it in a clevo? Just wouldnt throw down a couple K on untested hardware.
Ive been following notebooks for years and ati does not really even put 256 bit cards into notebooks very often.
The x1800 and x1900 were in a uniwill also sold as a fujitsu siemens in europe.
They melted. Ati doesnt really make consumer notebook 256 bit cards they dont work right -
Also, Alienware's contract with Arima expired, so Arima (now under Flextronics) is able to more freely engage in more contracts with more boutique notebook/computer vendors. Alienware's contract with Quanta results in the M17x. However, one of two things may happen; Alienware can surprise us and might have a new contract with Arima/Flextronics and maybe we'll see a rebadged Arima after this "Breed 3" thing of theirs comming out around the 9th...or they may update the M17x with the ATi cards as an option. The latter should require a mainboard upgrade (maybe an update to the Montevina platform) because their current M17x will probably not support an ATi crossfire configuration.
In response to the second half of your post, if anything, NOW would be a good time for ATi to come back to the high end mobile gaming market, which has been dominated by nVidia. I say this because their new architecture has proven to be very successful against the new nVidia architecture (desktop cards), and nVidia's rep has been compromised with claims of defective mobile GPUs. -
-
RK Computers ( http://www.rkcomputer.net/rkcnotebooks/index.php?l=product_detail&p=95) and CyberPowerPC ( http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_M1/) also offer PCs based of the same barebones (you should check if they ship to Canada).
Hope it helps!
-
yeh, and their shipping fees are phenomanal, with shipping to australia and europe only 80$ when xotipc charge around 250
