Did you try going back into the BIOS and changing the drive boot priority back to your new NVMe SSD? If not, that's probably the only issue with that.

If you are undervolting and your undervolt was too aggressive, that might be what caused it. What was the STOP code or BSOD error named?

Can you break down what you did in throttle stop to perform this test? I am a TS newb. I am not sure if I am hitting C7 state or note... I changed out my SSD to a Crucial one that is 1tb, but not sure if it is getting into this power saving mode.

How should I be performing this test?

    Thanks!

Is it possible install a 2.5-inch SATA SSD in that hard drive cage? Will the laptop recognize it?

I know the website is for crap, but could you post a link to it?
    EDIT: Found it: http://www.evooproducts.com/products.html

Do you hsppeeen to know whom I could contact to request either the stock/unmodified firmware or the (beta) firmware upgrade?
(I would very much like to attempt a Hackintosh OS mod (dual boot w/win10) on this laptop, but that is totally impossible with the limited edibility of the 1.05 firmware.)

I'm sure I am just missing some dumb setting somewhere but for some reason when I am on battery, all my games run like complete garbage. Like 20 FPS...
Or is it perhaps using the onboard GPU for some reason?

Looking for suggestions to fix please.

Just a guess, but could it be the settings in your power properties for battery?

Honestly when I was having battery drain issues, the first thing I did was uninstall control center and Nvidia drivers. Then followed these steps.

    0. Install latest bios
    1. Installed Nvidia control panel
    2. Install control center
    3. Went into windows battery settings and reset all three settings to default for ALL control center modes (battery saver, balanced and enthusiast).

If you still have battery drain issues
    1. Check nothing is running on Nvidia gpu
    2. DO NOT UPDATE TO LATEST WINDOWS 10. The latest version has a bunch of bugs that caused studdering and battery drain issues. I made a post about my findings earlier in this post.
    3. Make sure Intel gpu drivers are set to powersave on battery

It has a SATA SSD bay internally, so it should have no issue with that Samsung drive.

I would check to make sure you are in turbo mode or gaming mode… Also you could open up the command center and force the graphics card to be used.

However even with the integrated graphics I would think that you would get better than 20 frames per second… The only other thing I can think of is that it is throttling due to a heat issue.

This is true for any decent gaming laptop. Most batteries are not strong enough to fully power an Intel CPU and an Nividia GPU at the same time. Both usually throttle to prevent damage to the battery. For maximum performance, you need to be plugged in.

Hello just to confirm the evoo model 1660ti has 1 slot for m.2 (can I upgrade to evo 960 nvme?) 1 bay for 2.5 drive. Also the thermals are good enough? I'm making all this questions because I need to choose this model or asus tuf fx505 DU WB72 RYZEN 7 and 1660ti or the asus i5 1660ti

Thermals are questionable IMO. I hit 90c+ on all cores playing star wars. Only took like 10 mins to get saturated with heat.

Tongfang tripod heatsink is the main issue. Some get excellent thermals while some get bad thermals. Consider repaste also

It’s probably due to an inconsistent application of thermal paste… Or really cheap thermal paste to begin with... I cannot imagine it’s the heat pipe itself, as we are just really talking hey series of metal tubes… Very unlikely that any of them would be blocked.

I would recommend looking on YouTube and you will find a tutorial on removing the entire heat sink apparatus and reapplying thermal paste... it does not look hard.

Also people have a great deal of luck with using a tool/program called throttle stop to keep the CPU and GPU from getting excessively hot while still maintaining High performance.

Do you have a link from where you got the installers for the control center and bios (i presume i can get the Nvidia control panel directly from Nvidia's website)?

The 15.6 1650 model is $650, i7-9750H, 16gb, 256gb SSD. The 1660ti model is $899 with a 512gb SSD. But at that point I should probably just get the 17" RTX 2060 with the 1tb SSD for only $100 more.

    Opinions, please?

With a +150 OC, the 2060 on this laptop clocks and performs like an average desktop 2060. However, the keys are pretty bad, worse than the keys on the OP 15 and 17 inchers. If performance is all you care about I'd definitely get the 2060 one.

How are the keys any worse if it's the same laptop? Did they change the keyboard in addition to the newer cpu/gpu?

I think I read somewhere that the original OP-branded models had membrane keyboards, while the new ones are mechanicals.

How does a mobile 1650 compare to a desktop RX580 4gb? That's my baseline, and if it can get within 10-15% of the RX580, I'd be happy. I mainly want good FPS in WoWS, STO while not at home. Maybe some of the latest AAA games at lower settings.

The keys on this had louder, clickier switches and are noticeably more spongy. It's most likely a quality control reason with EVOO.

Both 15" and 17" OP laptops had mechanical keys, and only the EVOO 17" has mechanical keys this time. The OP keys were a much better experience to use.

I don't play WoW, I play World of Warships, Star Trek Online, Forza Horizon 4 and Bloodstained mostly. I do play a big AAA game every so often, right now I'm playing Rage 2, I'll play Control when it's on XGPW, and I'll be picking up RDR2 soon, and I have preorders in for Vampire Bloodlines 2 and DOOM Eternal.

The cheapest 1660ti is $900 ish, but for $99 more I'd just buy the 17" with the RTX 2060 and twice the storage.

Yes, but it's not at the expense of hardware, most likely support and lower overhead/depending on more sales. It would cost them more to have a change in hardware vs what Tongfang includes...

Finally found a skin that was designed for the evoo gaming LP5 (the 1660ti version).

i went thru 3 different skins for similar tongfang based models, none of them were quite the correct model that resembles the evoo gaming laptop from Walmart.

installation was a pain in the butt, one of the most difficult laptop skins i've ever done. The skin quality is mediocre at best, the carbon fiber has no texture like the dbrand skins. But it protects my laptop, and that's all i care for.

I asked seller to not have a logo cutout for the top lid. i wanted to completely cover the logo.

    https://imgur.com/a/FQhLwyy

they do include enough skin to cover the entire laptop and even the sides of the top lid as well as the base.

fitment is pretty darn good, but get ready to be frustrated to no end with the large pieces. Take your time and do it slowly.

here's the link from where i got it:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Laptop-Sti...var=512629595211&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

this is a skin for the MECHREVO Z2 air 15.6" <----this is the equivalent tongfang chassis from a different manufacturer. same as the evoo gaming LP-5 (9750h + 1660ti).

It looks sharp, no matter how frustrating it was. Well done!

Yes, the 17" EVOO with the 2060 has their own version of Eluktoboos turned on in Turbo mode. Their gaming center has three modes, Office, Gaming and Turbo.

the trackpad has a smooth surface and uses windows precision, it's not bad for a gaming laptop. i wish it was a bit bigger tho.

i have used macbook pros and nothing in this world beats the trackpads on macbooks. So do not expect any laptop out there to be even close to a macbook trackpad. The closest windows laptop that can compete with the mac's trackpad might be the xps 15.
