I agree that those pictures are absolutely horrid!
However, I don't think the photographer is the only one to blame...
That new look is awful! It has put me in a position where I am reconsidering getting it when it comes...:S

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the pictures, I am just disapointed in the new design :)
And I hope to be positively surprised when the official pictures arrive.

Yeah the looks arent great, don't like the speakers being on the screen not under the keyboard, makes the whole thing 1" or so bigger than it needs to be.

Oh well, with the weight saving over the 15.4" though its still preferred imo.

Any news on a UK date/price?

Basically the 6625WD looks like the 6615WD, but the 6625WD is black with a silver edge.
The 6224W is same design as the 6214W but is black and with a silver edge. So if you look at a 6214W picture just imagine the silver edge and you have the design of the 6224W.

Typo there René, shuld be 6625, not 6225 in the first sentence, just so no one gets confused.

    and som awnsers to kehax:

Aboute the color, I don't think it's 100% desided yet. But a 6324W (successor of 6314W) was at least in the plans.

I have no clue if its possible to put 6224 hardware in a 6214 chassi, but I will be supriced if it wasn't possible, but i wouldn't recomend it couse it might be tricky getting all thinks in place.

It will not be possible to put a 8600 GFX in the 6214. Ore the other way around if someone whants that :p

I really hope it comes in a totally black version, it looks much better (my opinion).
and i can't find the ctrl button on the pictures, where did they put it, cuz i like it if its on the left, and i don't think you can use the FN button in games.
Too bad there never comes a 6-pin firewire port on laptops,
Anyway i'm definately buying a 6224w, it's so classy and stylish it will fit perfectly in my studio.

The 6224W has exactly the same keyboard layout as the 6214W, no difference, also as far as i know there is no plans for a totally black version.

I don't believe so. I think Santa Rosa is due to be announced in early May (9th? 10th?) and the notebook manufacturers are all bound to keep their new models under wraps until then.

I will be first in the queue on the day although I am still trying to choose between the 14" and the 15.4". Decisions, decisions....

There will be no point in using XP with DX10, since you can't take advantage of the new features, but I think XP will run just fine.

I can exclusively reveal that the NEW z-note 6625WD with the santa rosa processor will be available through Zepto`s Uk website on the 9th of may. I cannot give you any exact pricing information as yet. It will be available in 14"(6224,6324) and 15.4" with the Nvidea 8600. Any questions? I will try and respond via email or forum [email protected]

Any idea of dimensions or weight? Are the specs of the two systems (apart from the screen) identical?

The 2 systems (14" + 15.4") will both be capable of identical specifications. The 6625 will weigh 2.7kg, The 6224 will weigh 2.35kg. Our laptops are built to order so the RAM,Hard drive etc is selected by the customer to meet their individual needs. This will be one of the only 14" notebooks available with 512mb dedicated video ram, also one of the first notebooks fully dx10 compatible.hope this helps

Thanks very much, thats all very interesting. I am tending towards the smaller laptop especially as it is capable of the same performance as its larger cousin. The 15.4" model will have a webcam though, is that correct?

Many thanks for all the info - nice to get some solid facts. And the professional photos look great!!

    Wow!

So let me get this straight, the 6625 comes in both 15.4 and 14.1? What is the difference between the 14.1 and the 6224?

Also, that picture of the 6625 looks to have a glare-type screen. I asked this before and was told that on mockups they used spare glossy screens or something, is this the case? Cos I really hope that there's a matte version.

The 14" versions are known as the 6224 and 6324. The 6625 is a 15" model.

Can you enlighten us to the ports on the 6625WD?
In the picture of the left side there appears to be an RCA or CoAx socket (I'd guess for S/PDIF or a TV Tuner?) and next to the 1394/FireWire, under what I hope is an ExpressCard/54 slot, there is another slot, too small to be ExpressCard/34 (It looks like it could be a Sony Memory Stick socket, but that would be rather strange...).

The connector on the left side is for the TV-card, normaly there is a rubbercover on it. next to the FireWire there is a ExpressCard/54 and under that there is a card reader for SD and MMC if it's the same as on the 6615 (whitch I think it will be).

The panel will be a fast response WSXGA+ Glare type, as we have been unable to locate a proper WSXGA+ panel after samsung cancelled the panel we were using in the 6615WD... The HDMI is still in verification as you have to obtain a license for it. So as soon as we can get that approved its coming into the machine.

Mark, thanks for this - very excited about the new 14" bundle of joy.

Excude my ignorance, but when you refer to the cancelled Samsung panel, you call it a 'proper' panel - how is it different (better/worse) than the "fast response.." panel you'll be using?

Also, do you not expect HDMI to be available in the first generation of these laptops you'll be officially announcing next week?

    Petrov.

    1. Panel - The samsung panel was in my opinion very good, but since they cancelled and we couldnt find another WSXGA+ panel non-glare with the same quality -> We choose a WSXGA+ Glare panel with the same quality. So rather than comprimising quality and response, we chose to go with the glare type. Actually the viewing angles on the glare is better than the old non glare on the 6615WD, and the contrast and luminance as well...... You guys can swarm our sites tuesday, specs will be on then..

So to put it short.. If the Old samsung panel was 100% this one is 110%, but going for another non glare would be 90% which we didnt want to do.

    2. No, those guys arent the fastest in the world.. everytime you have to develop something it takes like forever.....

I don't think you will be able to see it outside, since it is a glossy screen :( It's a shame that we won't be given the option to have a matte screen. Hopefully if Zepto can locate another distributor of matte screens they can include that in the 6625, but that's not too likely.

Glossy doesn't mean you can't see it outside necessarily. My current laptop has a matte screen and I see NOTHING outside, it's all black. I contacted Dell about their glossy TrueLife screens, and they assured me you can work outside with your laptop as well because the sceen is perfectly visible.

I'm hoping the Zepto screen is visible outside as well. I work a lot on my laptop and it would be nice to be able to work outside on it when it's sunny.

Wow, really? Maybe it's just my crappy Acer. Like right now the laptop is perpendicular to an open window and if there is a dark area on a screen I can clearly see my reflection in it. And if the window is directly behind me i can see outside just like a mirror.

I guess it depends on how the lighting is in the room ofcourse, but I can honestly say that I've never had a problem with it. It does ofc reflect in some situations, but It's never been annoying (unlike my CRT monitors used to be sometimes).

Excellent news - will the Intel Draft-N network option be included (i.e. not the Zepto proprietary 300Mbit option)? It's in the spec sheet, but not an option on the Danish configuration webpage...

Also, I can't decide whether to get Vista or XP loaded...I game mainly, so XP is more solid and faster at the moment, but am I being too short-sighted...?

    Petrov.
