Do you have the iPhone or BB Storm? It'll be like typing/thumbing on that. Wierd... I like the tactile feedback of real, physical keys. Otherwise it feels like you're drumming on your fingers on the table. I guess to each their own.

I hope it works out for you. Im a little weary that this is only the 3rd thing the seller has sold and has a rating of ZERO!! That's a lot of cash to dole out to someone with no rep in my opinion. If you receive it though, and it's as stated, and it's not stolen, then you got one hell of a deal!

Same here, I'd be all over this if it were a touchscreen... so I take it it's easy to swap out a non-touch for a touch screen? About how much are we talking about for a touch-screen panel?

    Thanks!!

It's a very simple matter of a swap... That's it. It takes 20 minutes tops...

I hope they are in as good a shape as they look. Remember to order tour A/C adapters... they aren't included...

Holy ****! Shipping to Australia for that listing was quoting as almost US$400 for Fedex! That'd be US$1k in total whch would be A$2k after customs hit me around a little bit for some import taxes... hmmm glad I resisted. lol No I'm not... Spousal Attack Unit T (aka my wife Tiffany) would kill me if I spend that much when we don't have it (not even credit on a C/C at present! eek).

Good score for those who got one by the look of it.

Well... I just received the two I ordered... WOW! Both have just a few scratches on the top but when you open them up they have perfect screens and perfect rubber illuminated keyboards! It looks like they got the most wear from being stacked on top of each other!

Oh... And they have the yellow tabbed, high capacity batteries too! Woohoo!

Trooper and Stiffnecked... I'm sure I got mine first as I only live a state away but you guys are going to LOVE the laptops! I wish I had the $$ to buy more! Anyone have any MK5 recovery disks?

Silver & Stiff... You are going to love this! You are also getting a DVD MultiDrive... Not just a DVD Rom.. I just pulled it out and looked at it! This keeps getting better and better.

BUT... They were accurate with the DC port covers... one of mine is missing and the other is barely hanging on.

With it being a 1.6GHz and having a DVD MultiDrive and having a rubber illuminated keyboard... I'd say this is a deal and a half as long as you can live without the touchscreen. Heck... I use mine mostly when I run I-Guidance... That's just about it.

The ones we just bought are MK5s and need PC4200 DDR533 The MK4s and below use PC2700 DDR333... I don't think that these will work will they? (I normally buy Crucial RAM for the CF-29s.... This would be a GREAT price though!

    Well... according to http://www.toughwiki.com/index.php?title=CF-29
model cf-29l4lgzbm is a mk4. The above link also indicates that mk4 use DDR-2 PC-3200.

    Anybody else know any different?

    Thanks!!

For CF-29 and CF18; MK5 and MK4 uses the same module, 200pin, ddr2, from pc3200 up to pc 5333. MK1 up tp MK3 uses, 200pin, ddr, pc2100 or pc2700. Correct me if I am wrong.

    Your correct teo
The mk-1 will work with both pc2100 and pc2700 but for compatability the mk-2 and mk-3 should be used with pc-2700

Teo gave me the same info via PM and it is, of course, correct and has proven out on my MK1, 2 & 3 as well as the 4 I just received.

Displacedtexan is right too. I just assumed since it as a 1.6GHz that it would be a MK5... It is not... It is in fact an MK4 and I already have one unit loaded up with the MK4 Recovery Disks I have. I just need to load the rest of my regular stuff... Firewall, AntiVirus and other things before I list it. The GPS antenna that Teo suggested has given me my best results yet. The results tonight were AS GOOD as the Sarantel GPS antenna! I think it has to do with the size and shape of the ground plane.

BTW... I just bought yet another of the 1.6GHz units. I just can't leave well enough alone. I may buy another.

Are you sure on this? I had a Mark 3 and I had 1 x 1GB chip PC 3200 in it (Now I don't' know if it was actually running at 400MHz, but it wasn't incompatible or anything... also are you sure that the Mark 4's and 5's had DDR2?!?! that would mean Panasonic would have had to completely re-design the motherboard, not only for the RAM, but also the north and southbridge chips...

    Rob,
My CF-29 MK4 just loves its DDR2 stick. Saves a bunch of money too, they're much cheaper. My MK2 CF-18 unfortunately takes DDR.

According to the flyer put out by Panny, the 1.6Ghz CF-29 comes with 512Mhz Ram standard expandable up to 1536Mhz and it is listed as DDR 2.

Hey! Rob. I think you misread the posted info; MK1 to MK3 uses 200pin, pc2100 to pc2700, ddr not pc3200. Pc3200 is under MK4 and MK5, ddr2 and I am sure of that coz I handed all model series of cf-29 from MK1 to MK5

Dood, they make PC3200 DDR1 you know... It operates at 400MHz (just like DDR2 3200/400MHz)...

I had a 1GB DDR1 PC3200 stick in my mark 3 CF-29 back in the day... I donno if it actually ran at 400mhz, but it's not like it wasn't compatible or anything...

    Hi All,

to everyone selling Toughbooks & parts on ebay, PLEASE!!! make the listings visible to us poor sods on the UK.

If I go to ebay.com there are more interesting items than if I search worldwide from ebay.co.uk - which is very frustrating.

Obviously, add any mimimum feedback & other terms etc. that you feel happy with to avoid the idiots and fraudsters, just please don't cut us off completely.

    Thanks,
    Robert.

    I feel for you Robert
I seldom purchase items from the UK because the pricing is high due to limited availability in the uk
I live in Canada and my options are reduced as well
You can a head of time contact the usa seller and see if he will ship to you
    That works sometimes
Just make sure he is willing to ship postal as all the courer companys will charge you plenty for brokerage fee's
