Yeah Im sure you can use whatever installed disk for any program on these, and yes touchscreens get marked up, most have LCD film on them that protects the actual screen underneath. If they are heavily abused with a stylus then they can incur physical damage. The one I received was flawless with an LCD film still on it which showed no wear.

There were two CF-29's on eBay a short while ago, they were listed for $229 or make offer with free shipping. I emailed to find out the model, but before I could refresh the screen the bidding was over. Did any of our people buy them?

I tried to BIN and it said server error and when it reloaded it was already bought, I was all over it in like 30 seconds and ebay had an error probably cause so many people were trying to buy it at once, I was ANGRY, looked like 1.6 units with a blu ray drive? Oh well maybe I wasn't meant to have it and it was a scam or something

I've got a cf-29 coming from the same seller, so I hope I have your luck. Any idea, by the way, about where to get a recovery disk for the cf-29 mk1? I'll probably need to post an ad I suppose, right?

I wouldn't think so... Seems a little expensive to me. Plus it is missing the PCMCIA port cover. It is also a digitizer model... I didn't see if the screen pen was included...

Funny thing is that the gps is showing on the bios eventhough there is nothing connected on CN(18) its probably affected by water damaged or something that the line GPS in is shortenning the ground

I know this seller... He used to take my logos, quotes and stuff... We had several words as you could imagine. I reported him to ebay and they sided with him... Moral of the story? Ebay has no morals! (It is up to the seller to have morals! And THEY are getting fewer and farther between as the BIG stores come in.) Just read his feedback...

BTW... He sold this SAME motherboard on 2/6... I have it bookmarked... I was waiting for the feedback to hit as it has water damage that I could see... I'll bet he bought it back so he didn't get yet another negative feedback!

EDIT- Yup... This time he added.. "NO REFUND... Will take parts to complete"... I'll bet! Previously it sold for $174.50 and was won by someone who had A LOT of feedback!

Rich... You really aren't allowed to cross plug your items on ebay. If you would like to offer your Toughbook for sale... Please follow the BST rules and post in that forum. This thread is for people who have spotted deals on ebay and posting the link... Not posting your own stuff for sale. That is what the BST is for. ;)

    Not a bad deal though...

    Thanks,

    Rick

Question for TB: I'm by no means a competent techie where computers are concerned, and that's the only thing that worries me about my cf29. Do you--or others on the board--do repair/rebuild work that's over a newbie's head? I ask b/c I noticed 91220da's "Ultimate Toughbook Edition" built by TB himself. I'd PM you on this, but, alas, I'm still in my probationary period . . . .

Yeah... But if you buy the parts needed... It gets back up to where a lot of the regular ones are...

Stewboy... PM sent. Yes and no... The purpose of this forum is to allow people the info and support it takes to do work themselves. Also to modify the heck out of our machines. Some are not tech savvy and/or don't have the proper tools or time to do it on their own. I'm sure there are a few of us here that can help you out.

I've seen a few online lately, I'm considering ordering a few, If i don't ill link it up here. Just do your homework online at the usual sites and you'll find some under $500 shipped that are CF-18s 1.1ghz or better complete.

Usually not with BIN pricing but there are a few that, if you stock with it, you may end up with a real deal.

Mine is set for delivery today! YIPPEE!

The best deal is when the seller and the buyer are happy. It depends on condition, what's included, etc.

I think I got a deal on mine... But it isn't here yet for me to see the condition. If it is in really rough condition... I may have paid too much.

I would think between $450 and $550 would be good for a plain-jane 1.1GHz with touchscreen and AC adapter. More stuff included would up the price. Pay less and you get a steal (Like Cap did!)... Pay more and hopefully you end up with a nicer machine.

    I just picked up a good deal on a mk 4 CF-29
There are several more identical to it from the same seller, although the few BIN auctions they have are not that great of deal. (EDIT- they dropped the BIN prices to $399- not bad now) But they do include GPS and 1.2G memory! Now to find me a touch screen......

Yes, I already purchased one and I am trying to buy another. They were a special bunch produced for the Bakersfield PD. The one I got was in great shape and included WIFI, GPS and the slot for cell card (with LCD antenna). It also came with 512 RAM and I have already added a 1Ghz RAM stick (DDR2). Paid $388 for mine plus shipping.

Just won a CF-29 with 1.3 processor for $299.99. It's missing a port cover, battery and OS needed to be reloaded...good thing I have the port cover, 6-7 extra batteries and the factory restore CD for this unit (MK2).

Also just picked up a CF-30 MK2 with touch screen, dual pass through, emissive backlit keyboard, Bluetooth, & Wireless Ready for $1,600 brand new from a large Toughbook retailer. Unit is open box from PC Connection. They have a guy that sells off the extra units before they offer them off in bulk to another reseller. Great price on a brand new unit with these specs.

I was able to score another of the Mk4's as I did the other day, from the same seller as I did before, see here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=190288404168. The best part is that the last time it was $405 shipped, this time it was only $347!!! As I said before, they are in great shape and come with pretty much everything except touch (which I generally do not use). It was a much better deal to not use the BIN with this seller. Looks Llike I will have a couple 29's for sale after I set them up for the best resale.

Actually we should cool it down a little... This IS the public domain! It won't be long and sellers will be using US for a gauge as to how to price their stuff....

Just a thought... A dang good thought if you ask me... Let's keep it low key please!

I've been having a hard time finding any takers for my CF-28 on eBay, after two auctions with no bids I put it up as "MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN'T REFUSE"... and no one has even bothered to try and lowball me yet.

Now after finding this thread I know why... it's all you people's fault, with your $300 CF-29s!

    <shakes fist>
