Is it worth purchasing the extended warranty for this laptop?

So first problem I noticed on mine is that the Windows Key isn't activated. For some reason it doesn't work and asks me to activate with a new key....?

    Error Code:
    0xC004C003

The activation server determined the specified key has been blocked.

Well duh, :) None of the Razer laptops come activated. Turn the computer over and enter the product key. It should work from there :)

    @Rabbit,

    Wait so what's the solution?

Do you just goto "system properties" then click on "activate windows"?

Yeah, Well when you turned the computer on for the first time it asked you to enter the product key. At that point flip it over and type in the key. If you clicked "Skip" then go into the sys properties and click activate now. And enter product key. :)

Oh ok weird because my windows 8 laptop doesnt have a product key, it like automatically activates when there's like internet connection I think. I was told that with the new UEFI bios, the key is like hardcoded into the bios from the factory, does anyone know if this is true?

Retina Macbook pro's design only comes from Apple. Blade's design comes from Apple including the interior to make it thin. Apple didn't copy any other laptop in terms of retina macbook pro's design but razer blade did. Apple will always be the creator of its unique design and that can never be taken away from Apple.

I wonder if I can change the shipping address from FedEx to abroad in their site. Maybe since payment is cleared, I can have it shipped straight here. I'm doing it as soon as I get home!

    Edit: crap, can't.

So apple invented the laptop? or one with rounded corners? or perhaps one with two fans? or thin laptops? or laptops with heat pipes? I don't think so.

Some manufactures are adopting this where its the latest gen of slic licencing into the bios of the computers. Microsoft is trying to do away with product keys completely to prevent people from transferring the keys from one computer to another.

Can the RAM be upgraded on the Razer 14"? I called razer and they said is was not able to be upgraded and 8GB is the max memory. I cant believe the max out at 8G. I guess its flash type memory?? My company is looking for a windows machine comparable to the macbook pro and this thing looked great aside from the memory, we usually use 8G minimum with our applications. We want to give our devs a choice between the 2 but its a no go if it only takes 8G.

From what we have seen so far, The Blade 14" has its memory soldered to the Mbx. This would explain why it isn't up-gradable. But from the pictures we have seen there seems to be two M-Sata slots. So in theory you could add two 512gb SSD's to it

I got the extended warranty for my Pro. Main basis being that it's a big purchase and the battery can't be removed. Even if the warranty doesn't cover wear and tear, just in case the battery dies out completely is what I got it for.

If they sold the battery separately though I'd probably think twice about the extended warranty.

TBH, he kinda didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about. I want to know now if it is embedded flash or actual RAM chips. I know the other systems didn't have a 16G option, and i want to be 100% sure as we would be buying a bunch of them.

I almost got the warranty but paid for the bigger drive instead :) my reasoning is I'm very careful with my laptops and I also usually sell them before the year is out (Blade 14 r2 anyone?). still the extended warranty will keep your resale value up, and razer has proven to me they are a great company when it comes to warranty customer care.

John, how's your battery on your Blade R2?

I never knew much about the effects of keeping your laptop plugged in to your laptop's battery. I'm really looking to keep this Pro as a relatively long lasting laptop, but kind of afraid that the battery will deteriorate more than the specs being outdated.

Is there a maximum decay for a laptop battery? By that, I mean, no matter how long I've had my Pro, will my battery always have a minimum life of say, 2-3 hours? Or will it get to the point that my battery won't even last an hour anymore?

I don't mind losing an hour of battery life because of wear and tear over the next few years. But if it gets to the point of my battery not even lasting an hour anymore, then yeah... =/

I think you're confused in regards to the extended warranty. It does NOT cover the battery, which is explicitly stated. It's very unlikely that the battery will completely die out, but rather just hold very little charge if it is even faulty. That will not fall under the warranty criteria for repair.

In addition, you should all be purchasing items like this with an American Express or VISA Signature card, as they double the warranty period up to 1 additional year, meaning you automatically get a 2 year warranty if you bought it with one of the above cards.

Yeah, sorry misstated my point on that post by focusing on the battery. I just meant that it was my biggest concern in terms of replacement, but really, since I'm already spending this much for a machine, I'd really love to extend its effective lifespan, in a way.

And John had a good point, in case I do decide to resell it, that warranty will probably pay itself off instead of a price reduction.

    Edit:

Also, this is my first Blade from Razer. Really just more as a precaution since I have no experience yet with their brand in terms of systems. I don't mean to doubt their quality and customer service, since I've had only good experiences with them for their peripherals, but really just as a safety precaution :)

The way I see it, if you can spare the cash for the extended warranty (and don't need more memory), by all means, go for it. If you're short though and have a lot of experience with laptops, then you probably don't need it.

Sadly for me, although I've gone through a couple of gaming laptops already, I still have a lot to learn about this particular hardware.

blade 2 battery life? I don't think its deteriorated much over 6 months if any. not a great battery life though, think I could push 3+ hours with kb off, switchblade lights off, and screen dimmed. maybe 3 hours 45 minutes with wifi on and lights off and low? can't recall. I don't stay unplugged with my r2 much anymore.

someone asked about blade 14 battery life. I didn't go all the way to zero, but with no keyboard lights and screen dimmed down I got just short of 5 hours with wifi on, and surfing the web lightly and watching a couple youtube videos. going into airplane mode would no doubt extend battery life further.

Yeah, it's unfortunate. I would like a 16GB variation too, or at least a way to upgrade in the future when DRAM densities make it feasible. The problem is the largest single-sided SODIMM available now is 4GB. And if Razer were to add the low-profile connector, they'd likely have to reduce the heatpipe footprint over the CPU/GPU. Such are the compromises when making a performance notebook so small. @jonnyd91, in the motherboard shot, you can see the surface-mounted DRAMs (16x512MiB) right above the SSD.

    razerblade2013_mb.jpg

BTW, has anyone received or been shipped a 256GB Blade yet? I ordered a few minutes after midnight on 6/3, still sitting on "In Process" since. I just noticed the 512GB units went out today.

Dial backlight onnscreen all the way to the lowest setting (still bright enough) and turn off WiFi and you will get 6 hours plus I imagine. Will do more battery testing. Killing apps may help.

I got mine today, and I have no basis of comparison, but it seems the column of keys at 4 and 5 (the keys below them) seem to get quite hot. Wasd were relatively cool. I put my hand under the rig side fan, and I did feel it drawing some air, but the fans never really kicked up a lot. Open hardware had the nvidia GPS at around 71... Am I just not used to the heat of this type of laptop during gaming?

For anyone that has experience using the Cooler Master U3 NotePal:

Are you able to use it as a laptop case/holder even with the fans attached? Or you'd need to remove the fans? The photos I've seen with it being used as a laptop case don't really show if the fans are still attached or not, I'm guessing they aren't.

I'm not sure I see the point in carrying around my laptop in it if the fans aren't attached, seeing as how when I remove my laptop, it's basically just a stand without the fans. This is with a plan of carrying my laptop only, no backpack to put the fans in.

The way I see it, if it I'm able to keep the fans attached while storing my laptop in it, it might be a good option rather than just the laptop in the sleeve. That way, I can still use it as a cooler even after as a laptop case.

Did some video editing on the Razer Blade 14inch using adobe premiere. This thing is super fast, felt like I was editing on my desktop!

Played about 3 hours of Dota 2 on it, which is one of the worse optimized games on steam, and the notebook was amazing warm, not super hot. Was able to touch the top part where the power button is without feeling uncomfortable. Ran dota with everything maxed out to native resolution.

Going to be placing my order really soon on the 512 Blade 14.

Still my only worry is the possibly so-so viewing angles, but I guess nothing's perfect right?

Viewing angles are decent, definitely not the best. I don't know how other 14 inch displays stacks up against this one, but comparing it to my macbook air 11in screen the macbook has better viewing angles.
