my experience from brazil is that I dont pay tax on an item that has already been taxed (at the moment of purchase), thus when I RMA things for the US, I dont pay any tax, usually the people that send me back if they dont state what it is, they pay tax

How do you ship it back and forth? From my experience, FedEx asked for the customs duty fee when I paid when they picked up my package, and my shipment back to the Philippines was paid COD, which still included the tax =/

I use a non courier type of shipping company, there are several different services defined by the (org name that I forgot, its been 5 years since I used that)

    thus I dont pay taxes.

Fedex is a door to door type of courier, so the procedure is:

    1) receive the good
    2) transport to international transportation avenue (port, airports, border)
    3) apply taxes and services, like insurance
    4) receive at international transportation avenue (port, airports, border)
    5) apply taxes and services
    6) deliver good

    thats what fedex does.

you should use standard mail and ask for delivery via USPS, the courier type of firms dont that for aduana part for free, so its always more expensive

Anyone think its worth upgrading drivers to 320.49 or leave as is?

My Blade is running pretty perfectly right now, besides some desktop items taking very long to load (rain meter takes ~10sec) after entering desktop. Don't want to mess with anything right now

I've heard the 320.49 drivers don't work with the Blade, unless it was fixed. I tried it about two weeks ago and couldn't install it. Someone earlier in this thread provided a custom file so you could install it on the Blade, but I'm not familiar with how to fix it in case something goes wrong. Lol.

Yeah I think I will stick with default for now, works fine as is.

In other news, looking through the MSI forum, I feel really glad that Razer and Nvidia worked so close together to allow an ACTUAL portable gaming laptop. It seems all other manufacturers have throttling on the GPU when on battery that pretty much doesn't allow mobile gaming away from a plug. Thanks Min for that great industry feature, that is worth the worse than average screen in my book!

I didn't realize that until I looked around in other sub forums. People take it for granted that gaming laptops cannot play games on battery. Razer pulled a Mythbusters and obviously tore that apart.

Agreed this is the first laptop in which I did not need to purchase an additional adapter. I am able to game 1-2 hours on batter power every night in bed before I pass out.... on ultra settings with no noticable performance drop i might add!

Should be fine if you set the battery critical level high enough and the action to shut down, right? Is it technically the same thing?

I emailed razer support and they said gaming on battery has no adverse effects, but he "suggested" I game plugged in to get full GPU/CPU performance

Just ordered a 14" 256; hope it gets here (Canada) before school starts. It seems from reading this forum that the odds of a unit arriving with various defects are actually quite high...

I think he was commenting on gaming on it every day until the battery is completely depleted - which is bad for the battery. Not really the performance of the laptop on battery :p

That is true, but I've been reading lot of forum members in Alienware, Sager, ASUS & MSI saying that gaming on battery has a high amperage draw that diminishes the total capacity of the batteries, and therefore that's why they don't implement gaming on battery.

If the argument is more because of charge cycling, then I guess I have no reason to be concerned. Just seems weird that no other manufacturer would do this, out of concern for longevity of the hardware

I am sure there is truth to what your saying, but that's not the reason it wasn't implemented on other machines. On my Sager 9150 with 7970m you could game on the battery for about 45 minutes at a diminished level of performance. Arguably probably placing the same draw on a batter if not more than my 765m.

The extra large batter for the laptop of this size + latest optimus & haswell technology has made this possible with the Razer.

Has anyone got a shipping notice on a Blade Pro 256G lately? Had to send mine back due to its locking up, and now they don't have one to send me. :( They have been VERY nice, and assured me that repair orders go first, but it's been over a week now.

I bought a Crysis 3 box on impulse the other day since it was on special in a nearby gaming store, and I completely forgot that the Blades don't have an optical drive.

I'm looking to get a USB-Optical Drive device, any suggestions? My sister has the Apple one and it's simple and thin (I would say if it were black, it could pass off as Razer).

Would any USB-Optical Drive work as long as it's a USB? There aren't any compatibility issues I should be looking for?

You could download an ISO then enter the CD key from the box. Or maybe try use the CD key in origin to link it to your account?

But to answer your question, yes they should be plug n play. They might require two USB ports if one doesn't supply enough power. Any 8x DVD+-RW should be fine, some bluray external drives can be had for $20-30 if you get lucky

Good point, I'll check if that CD key method is doable.

I really like the Apple one because of how simple it is. Lol. I should coat it black too =P

    Edit:

Did some research, seems the Apple one won't work with anything but their products. I'm also a bit confused with what I should be looking for since this is the first time I've needed an external optical drive.

What's the difference with external blu-ray drives that cost as much as $150-$200 with ones that cost $50?

    For example, between these:

    $150 - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php...=23363&zenid=f02104f783b8d1ed89967aaa91e92a89

    $45 - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php...=20832&zenid=f02104f783b8d1ed89967aaa91e92a89

Which one would I need just to read games/data/media on like any other optical drive? =/

Sorry for the nooby questions, appreciate the help!

The former is a bluray writer, the latter is only a DVD read/write. Unless you want to watch bluray movies on your laptop or burn blurays to watch movies, stick to the DVD

I think the box had a packing slip/invoice; you should also have your emailed order confirmation, etc. from Razer online.

I'll check my box as soon as I get home to confirm, but I'm more than happy with the emailed invoice. That way I don't get to lose it. Lol.

Hello all! Over the past weekend I have read this forum, yes all 228 pages. I have been looking at the Razer blade pro for quite some time now and only found this website over the weekend. You guys have posted some really great stuff for these machines, some bad but the pros out beat the cons by a lot a least for me. I just made an account for this website because I really want to know about the shipping times for the blade pro 256 and 512 GB. I know from reading that this is a touchy subject. I really want to order this since this will be a huge upgrade for me (current laptop is an Alienware m17x r1 with a 260m GPU). I just don't really like the 3-4 weeks that it saids on the website.

Just bought a 14 256gb last Monday. Ship time was 5-7 business days. I called Razer to discuss prior to ordering and they admitted to terrible shipping issues in early July while promising they'd gotten much better. After asking some leading questions regarding when I could expect it (important due to an upcoming move), their supplier shipments etc, I was able to deduce their next shipment was coming in sometime in the next week or so.

Long story short. It shipped Thursday after ordering Monday. Will say that ship time to the east coast is rather long - Thursday to Wednesday by ground, as a heads up.

So, website seems accurate, but call Razer and pump them for info if that's important to you.

Has anyone had experience playing Crysis 3 on the Blade Pro? I'm not sure whether it's Crysis 3 (Origin) being buggy or if it's my unit =/

    Scottyboo,

I would suggest placing an order as soon as possible anyway. They don't charge until the order has actually shipped already, so I see it as getting your order queued up ahead. If the wait has been too long, you could always cancel :)

I wish I could help you - I had the same problem myself. I started with whatever number was first on the FAQs in the website; I was given another number by the guy on that line, which proved to be the right one.

You'll know you have the right line if its closed until 9am Pacific - that's all the help I can offer!

Can anyone please confirm whether they gave you your Blade 14 invoice, email it you or both?

I wanted to buy the Blade but the shipping forwarder refuse to declare it to lower value if there was an invoice in the shipment.

I was wondering if anyone ordered a 128Gb Blade 14" over a month ago and still doesn't have it?

I ordered my Blade 2-4 weeks dispatch time on Monday July 15th, it's now 4 weeks and a day and it still says "Order in process" :(

I am having the same issue! I ordered one on July 12th and still no word about shipping. I have contacted Razer several times and have gotten the run around. I did receive an email a little bit ago saying that my laptop was supposed to ship on august 9th but was delayed till the 14th. I really hope it does ship tomorrow.

Some "real" updates would be appreciated from Razer. Instead of telling me the latest time on the product info page.

Can we ask to exclude the invoice? There isn't any option to mark the item as a gift so the invoice won't be included.

Ah, good to know I'm not the only one. Before ordering they told me that the 4 week wait was the maximum possible time I would have to wait (which just about fitted in before I leave the country). So now it's apparently being shipped on Wednesday.. Hmm.

I asked them if they would upgrade my postage option for free because of the situation but their support are being a bit unresponsive at the moment. Which postage did you specify tkg? Fingers crossed that when the Blades finally arrive they all work well!

I selected the Free shipping (3-5 day, I believe). I asked once about upgrading shipping on the phone but they weren't able to help me out with that. Instead the representative told me that he "escalated" my order... Whatever that means. I received a couple emails afterwards following up with the "escalation" but they only rehashed the "we are sorry, the current wait time is 3-4 weeks" blah blah blah. I leave for school in about 10 days so i hope i get it in time!

Edit: I really hope this is a "later" batch with less defects... We shall see.

This is becoming quite annoying. I noticed it happening on my Surface RT tablet but I assumed because it wasn't the full Windows 8 OS, that it was perhaps an RT limitation. But there shouldn't be a reason that it doesn't show for my Blade 14". It has not shown once going from 100% to 20-30% on either Balanced or Power Saver profile. Any suggestions on what might be causing this odd issue?

That is indeed odd. What usually keeps my Blade from showing the estimated time left in the battery is when I switch from being functions, for example going from plugged in to battery mode and leaving it on standby (then again, it reaches to about 95% in roughly a few minutes and starts showing then).

I have no idea at the moment though, sorry =/ Razer support?

On a side-note, I just stumbled on this comparison between the GS70 and RBP. I don't find it accurate, imo, granted that it's only a tech spec review though.

Does anyone know if the GS70 is actually an aluminum body as well? I remember reading a few pages back that the aluminum body is only available for the first wave of orders or something?

OK I am sorry for a couple of basic questions which I am sure are answered earlier in this thread.

I am interested in the Razorblade 14 - the problem I have is that 512MB isnt really enough. I read on CNET the following "According to Razer, the storage is user-upgradable, although that voids the warranty. Actually, the Blade 14 has two drive bays, one of which sits unused." So does it have 2 drive bays. What can they take SSDs or 2.5" standard hard drives?

Secondly I wondered if I could attach this notebook to some sort of generic 'port replicator' like a Lenovo. Has anyone done this? Is it possible?
