Cool thanks. So the matte panel on it is not grainy right especially on white backgrounds?

Btw, Razer 14 owners, where can we buy a usb Ethernet adapter and usb card reader adapter?

Try amazon for the USB adapters, they sell gigabit Ethernet for around $30 and 100mbps USB 2.0 Ethernet for a little less.

No, I don't believe it's grainy at all. 900p is a pretty good resolution for 14", about the same as my 1080p display on my 17.3" GE70 (albeit, the MSI screen seemed more vibrant)

Edit: sorry, $20ish for USB 3.0/Gigabit Ethernet adapter and $10ish for USB 2.0/100mbps ethernet

Razer sells the Ethernet adapter on their site, and you can pick up either at BestBuy.

EDIT: Just ordered the 512gb Blade 14", come on baby, paid for express shipping so if all goes well I should have it next week :).

I am looking at the Razer 14 along with the Gigabyte P34G, that is coming out soon. I need something that works for business portability and has some game to it so these two have been what I am focusing on.

Now that I posted my life story :) I have a quick question and I apologize if it has been answered.

I read in at least one review that this has a second drive bay.

Can this take a standard laptop 2.5" HD/SSD or something smaller?

Just curious as this will be a business system, I need some additional space, but really don't want to pony up all the extra for a 500GB SSD, especially considering how overprice that is.

    Thanks

It looks as though the latest Windows update has resolved the issue with the Razer Bade not displaying the amount of time remaining on the battery. I now have an actual time estimate and percentage instead of the previous state where there was just a percentage.

What is the cause of this kind of thing? Is it a corrupt update? (Meaning everyone who downloads it, gets it), or a fatal mismatch of software that you might have had?

This type of thing makes it scary to update =/

Yep, I installed the update, restarted then uninstalled both, restarted and nothing changed. I'm in contact with the Razer Engineering team to see if they have a solution as the CS rep basically said time remaining doesn't exist because it's an inaccurate measurement..

Also on a side note: what really do people with 512GB+ use their space for? I'm in a personal dilemma of deciding if I really need to buy the Crucial M500 480GB for $390 when it releases versus just buying a 256GB Crucial m4 for $170. I have 300ish steam games, 150GB music, and ~80GB Virtual Machines. What else do you guys store on your large SSDs?

    Hey guys,

It's been a long while since I've posted in this thread, but I'd like to lay down some personal suggestions in case it'd be of help to you all. I have taken a pic of all the things that I usually bring around with my Blade 14. The exception for everyday carrying is the 360 controller, which I bring only when I plan to emulate. Note that the V-MODA Vamp VERZA and the M-80s are gifts that I received awhile back from friends in my primary hobby, headphone building and modifying (head-fier here).

Note from the picture above that cable management is done with velcro color-coded straps. I also use 3M Dual-Lock to hold my small adapters (the USB 3.0 male to male and my usb male to male connector for my DAC/Amp). I picked up a 4-port dyconn ultra-compact usb 3.0 hub. I also replaced the included cable with the blue USB Male to Male for portability. Notice that it is literally the same exact thickness as the Blade 14. Also, it has automatic power management. Since it's USB 3.0, it gets 900mA of power out. Thus, as can be seen in the picture, I am able to power my ethernet adapter, nanoreceiver, 360 controller (or usb 3.0 external hard drive), and portable DAC/Amp (the Verza) without any issues. If I need more draw, there's a 5V power adapter included for the hub (which I really have never used, honestly). The plugable USB 3.0 adapter and the dyconn hub are by far the best investment I've made with the laptop. Also note, the G700 recently went up for sale on amazon and on newegg for 50 bucks, which has forced used prices on ebay down to around 30 bucks. A steal. The 360 controllers are no longer carried new at gamestop, so that paired with the coming of the Xbox one has led to a huge drop in used wired 360 controller prices (down to around 15-20 bucks).

Another couple of bits of advice for anyone looking for an msata expansion:

    1. You'll need a torx screwdriver to open up the Blade. Be aware.

    2. If you want another 256gb msata (SATA III) drive for fairly cheap, check out a seller on eBay who is selling 256GB Micron C400s for $150-155 (depending on your best offer). For your reference, Micron is the OEM vendor side of Crucial so...these msatas are....(!) Crucial M4s with different stickers xD!

Anyway, hope some people on here with find this post useful. Shoot me a PM or ask any questions you'd like :)

Oh and in case my choice of mouse comes into question, I actually own gamer mice for dual purposes. I use them for gaming (mainly MMOs), and I have macro profiles for most used work functions (I work as a Taxonomist and Data Modeler, so I need macros to finish schema and taxonomy processing quickly).

Hey Koja! Those are some great gaming gear :)

I'm really curious on your USB hub. I'm a Pro user, but from where you attached it, I don't see any ports I can plug into around that area. How exactly did you attach it to your Blade from that area? Lol.

    Edit:

Oh wait, is that just showing that it's the same thickness as the Blade? It's not really attached? Lol, my bad!

Indeed. Very cool USB hub though, would have opted for this one if I had the RB 14 as well :)

    Edit:

Has anyone had trouble with Windows 8 and Bluetooth devices? I have an Orochi in my bag I use when I have time for quick gaming sessions or just need a mouse to be more productive, and that uses bluetooth. However, I can't seem to be able to turn off my bluetooth anymore (to save battery).

    I've referred to here:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...turn-off/7fff5f08-2dab-4a41-b169-7b3f193658cb

But the method that was suggested there (which seems to have fixed for a lot of people) doesn't seem to work for me.

The only sure fire way I can turn off my bluetooth is that I have to remove my Orochi as an attached device, turning it off simply won't work and won't allow me to turn off my bluetooth. Gonna be a bother if I have to keep on reattaching/detaching my Orochi everytime I want to use it.

    Any tips?

    Edit 2:

I don't want to double post.

Would this affect us in any way?

Do you think most USB 3.0 hubs can sustain that kind of power for devices? I'm thinking of buying the Anker 4 port hub for a G700 mouse, 1TB portable HDD, USB wireless music receiver and cooling pad (has large fan and LEDs).

I might buy the dyconn if it can handle all that without external power, but I don't want to see speed drops in external HDD data transfer, music streaming or lag in my mouse. I currently use Orochi but might go back to my gen 1 G700 since I like palm grip.

Hm...I'd say that no matter what you do, with that setup, you'll experience less than optimal speeds on the HDD. Unless it's USB 2.0, then perhaps not. Remember, it doesn't really matter how great your power management is on a hub. If the sum total is more than 900mA, something is going to lose power.

I'm using it to run a 24" monitor and with a wireless keyboard. I've got a external hard drive, Ethernet, and CD drive running through the hub on the monitor. Closest thing to a docking station you can do.

My GeForce Experience on the Pro just picked up a 320.49 driver update. Does this mean that this is now an official WHQL driver?

    Edit:

Also, I've been wanting to make and store a USB that I can reinstall Windows 8 with (we never know). I've tried looking for guides to install, and I've come up with:

    1. Get a Windows 8 64-bit ISO from Microsoft.
    2. Use the Windows 7 USB tool and transfer the ISO.
    3. Done

However, I can't seem to get the first step done.

I try to use the Windows 8 installer from Microsoft, but I get a 'This product key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8' error. Which leaves me stuck.

How do I get the Windows 8 64-bit ISO if my product key won't work?

    Any help would be appreciated!

If you want to do what I did and completely remove the restore partition by transferring it to a USB, then search for "recovery" then follow the steps to create a recovery drive (make sure you tick the box that says copy recovery partition). Took a 16GB USB for me.

Then you need to use a very specific partition software to remove the recovery partition, move it to the immediate left of the main partition, merge it then align it. After that, you'll have 238GiB SSD, free from clutter and a USB drive that works just like the recovery partition

It also has a 1080p IPS screen and with the way I configured it, a 256gb SSD and a 750gb spinner for $600 less than the Razer.
There are pros and cons of each. The throttling issue sounds like it could be fixed with a BIOS update.

My friend finally got his 14 in and I have to tell you that I don't think I can deal with that screen. It is worse than I thought to be honest. I need mine for business as much as play and the TN panels is just not good enough. I know at home or the office I can hook up to an external monitor, but I am on the road a lot.

That panel belongs nowhere near a $2k laptop. It is on par with my wife's $400 laptop.

    Thanks! Will look into it.

I've read some people saying that it's not an extreme need on Windows 8, seeing as that I can reinstall my OS right from within the OS. The issue would be more of if I can't even get my computer to boot up? Either way, I'll look into this. Thank you!

Any throttling issue on the Razer 14 when taxing both gpu and cpu at the same time when gaming? Anyone monitored their cpu if the clocks drops the turbo boost or the clocks drops below the base speed of 2.2ghz?

Anyone found a solution to the webcam green flickering issue? I know a previous thread mentioned the webcam worked fine outdoors. But video conferencing outdoors is a fairly rare event for me. I had all the lights turned on in a hotel room and the constant green flickering while video conferencing via skype is extremely annoying!

Would appreciate it very much if someone here could point to a fix for this issue. As it seems more of a driver/configuration issue, than a hardware issue.

One other note, anyone here knows if the Blade 14 has wifi direct capabilities? If so, how do you set up the connection?

    Thanks in advance guys!
