Anyone know what the "CN" pads on the razer motherboard mean? I have a used one I just got and CN20 has a wire to it connecting it to CN19

The EC Fix won't help with the temperatures exactly, but it will solve the BDProchot issue that was triggered at a too low of a temperature.
You should try repasting it again, those temperatures are not good. Did you replace the thermal pads? I repasted mine and the temps are good.

I recently bought the blade and I'm reading through older threads. Ive seen a few things like upgrading from c2-c4 or something along those lines. Is that still necessary? Also what tests should I be running on this to make sure its up to par with performance?

Also my wifi...IS GARBAGE. I'm getting less than 10 MBPS download. is the WIFI a common issue with these?

Uninstall Killer Networks Software and install the driver from the KN website.

Tried the driver...seems like the speeds got even worse. Is there a good way of uninstalling/reinstalling wifi drivers? Windows autodetected and used some driver before i even installed the new one

Truth is, the first thing I did was replace the NVME drive and wireless card for the intel AC8265, so I didn't mess around with the killer one.
You can try disabling wifi, go to device manager, network adapters uninstall device, click on delete device software if available. Then install the driver you downloaded through the device manager by selecting update driver, browse my computer for driver.

I think only firestrike extreme and ultra are paid, the standard firestrike you should be able to add to the software.

    Hello RugbyPlayer,

I'm sorry that you are having issues with your Killer Wi-Fi adapter! Here are some things that might help speed up your Wi-Fi:
    • Remember that your new machine may be downloading updates in the background, which will slow the speed of other downloads. You can use the Killer Control Center to check for this.
    • Update your Killer Control Center to the latest version - https://www.killernetworking.com/driver-downloads/item/killer-control-center-x64. Whatever was preinstalled on your machine, when it was boxed, is likely many months old.
    • Update the BIOS from your machine manufacturer's support site
    • Update the chipset drivers from your machine manufacturer's support site
    • Update the firmware on your wireless access point (router/modem). If the access point is a Wi-Fi modem from your ISP, then you will need to contact them to have the firmware updated, but this is typically a routine call for them and ISPs typically don't update the firmware on these devices except when customers call to complain. This usually happens when the customer gets a new device that doesn't work well with the old firmware.
    • Change the Wi-Fi power settings. You can find the guide for that here - https://www.killernetworking.com/driver-downloads/kb/faq/59-wi-fi-power-settings
If you are unable to improve your Wi-Fi speeds with the above, please feel free to reach out to us directly at [email protected] so that we can help troubleshoot the issue personally!

Is there any way to identify the screens panel if it's a AUO or an LG one before opening the package (maybe from the serial numbers or some package coding??)?! 2017 mondel 512ssd.. Should I poker with it and open it or change for something else?? I read so so much problems for screen build quality temperature issues... Please help..

Not that I know of, but once opened, you go to device manager, monitor, properties, details, hardware ID to find out which monitor you have. Check for backlight bleed, AUO ones tend to have more. Temperature wise, most are fine for the thin and light design, and under control after undervolting. you can run something that stresses the cpu, like prime95 or occt, and monitor with hwinfo64 to see if it is normal for a RB and any large core differential temps.

Has anyone successfully installed Windows 7 on a 2016 blade? I've gotten through the installation and almost everything is working, but I've got two major issues:

    1. The trackpad doesn't work
    2. Synapse doesn't recognize the system

For the trackpad, I've tried a bunch of different Synapics drivers, but none seem to work. If I force install them through driver update, the device manager will recognize the touchpad as Synaptics (instead of HID-Device), but nothing seems to make it register input.

For Synapse, this mostly means I can't control keyboard backlight. It does a slow spectrum rotation. If I can't get full synapse control of the keyboard, I would definitely settle for something static. Is it possible to just modify whatever the default config is somehow?

I have a feeling that one or both of these problems may stem from the lack of an intel IO driver. That was one of the few drivers from Razer that doesn't work on win 7. Is it possible that this is why the mouse and keyboard aren't properly recognized? Does anyone know where I can get a compatible driver if so? I tried installing a similar looking win7 driver from lenovo. It installed fine, but I can't tell if it's doing anything. Definitely didn't fix either prolbem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi guys,

Trying to install the TPM update, which requires a BIOS unlock (wtf?) - so I am here: https://insider.razerzone.com/index.php?threads/razer-blade-2016-bios-mod.14368/ - and can't find the AMI tools. Google searches have come up empty. Everything that I have read indicates you need to unlock your BIOS so you can access the TPM menus in the BIOS so you can disable for the update...using a Razer Blade 14 v5 (GTX 1060) with the latest (official) firmware.

    Thanks for any help!

Glad it worked....I know, ridiculous on Razer's part for releasing an update for the RB late 2016, but you need to disabled TPM in the Bios which is not available. The update works fine for the RB 2017 since it has TPM in the Bios available.
Do you undervolt your RB? Now that the bios is unlocked, you can undervolt in the Bios if you like.
in the overclocking menu, set core and ring to adaptive, negative offset, and the value you use (i.e. 100mV).
Don't change anything else you are not familiar with, because it might cause the system to not boot....requiring a CMOS reset.

I have not gotten into undervolting, yet. Is 100mV what you recommend? It seems we have identical systems outside of the SSD. :) I just picked this up as a stopgap until Ampere laptops come out (hopefully Summer/Fall). Love it!

Yes I do recommend undervolting. It will help bring down the temps by 5C or more.

Where can I find the TPM updater that was previously on the Razer Website?
With some models of the Razer Blade, users experienced issues when using the updater and were unable to successfully complete the update. Razer engineers are currently working on an updated version of the updater. Please stay tuned for the updated version that will be released on the website as soon as it is available.

right, most likely because of users couldn't disable TPM in the BIOS to install the update.

But you already installed it right? The update itself should be the same, just that will probalby include in the update the automatic disabling of TPM in the Bios for models older than the RB2017. TPM update is available for the RB2017, since it doesn't have this issue.

Could one wrap those pads around the heatsink in the CPU area to bridge the gap? seems to do a decent job in heattransfer.

I'm actually curios as to how well that would work in laptops since most laptop CPUs don't have a heatspreader like desktops.

From the early testers here in the forum, the results don't look that promising, at least on laptops. Soon there will be more users to confirm.

Hi everyone. I've just recently acquired an RB 2016 6700HQ 1060 and I plan to flash the 1060 vbios version 6.06.41.00.0a.
I found a link on another thread but it's a deadlink.
Can someone reupload it? Thanks in advance!

It would be nice if after all this time with this model being out, if we could compile a list of tips/tricks/mods that may be useful to people and have as a reference for the future.

    As an example:
    - undervolting tips and stable settings people have found (while mileage differs, having some idea is better than none)
    - BD PROCHOC off
    - Bios unlocking, and which settings matter
    - GPU overclocking
    - RAM overclocking
    - screen profiles (i use the adobe RGB one, which is way better than stock)
    - wifi tweaks
    - misc.

I recently updated to the v2.02 Spectre/Meltdown BIOS via official Razer Update Utililty and now I am having performance issues with high CPU temps (i.e. > 90C) and CPU throttling - even without the GPU running.

I'd very much like to roll-back to v2.00 BIOS but unfortunately I did not dump that BIOS before using the official Razer Utility to flash the new v2.02 BIOS. Strangely, the updater also rolled back my EC from 4.0 to 2.0 (which I subsequently had to re-update). I've contacted Razer support but as their is no "official" way to roll-back an official BIOS update I'm stuck.

All the links for v2.00 BIOSes I've found online are dead - does anyone have a copy of their .rom BIOS (modded is fine) that I can use to flash mine, or can take a copy using AFUwin64?

    Edit - sorted it:
    • Here is a link to a v2.00 BIOS
    • Here is the EC updater (as flashing to v2.02 BIOS reverted me from EC 4.0 to EC 2.0)
    • And here is a VBIOS for the 1060 from the 2017 Kaby Lake Razer Blade. This BIOS is fully compatible with the Late 2016 Razer Blade and in fact, actually improved my FireStrike score by about +300 with no other changes. So 100% worth doing in my opinion (flash using nvflash method - guide here)
    • I also managed to get a >10K Fire Strike score as follows (i) BIOS 2.0 EC 4.0 (ii) ASPM Off (iii) C States Disabled (iv) -150UV on CPU (v) -90UV on GT (vi) 2,394MHz RAM overclock (vii) RAM timings set to 15-15-15-35 (viii) KabyLake VBIOS from above (ix) 175Mhz GPU core overclock (x) 600Mhz GPU memory overclock
    • However, for normal use and to avoid high temps/longevity issues I recommend just updating all the BIOS/EC as above, and applying an undervolt to the CPU and correct RAM timings. Don't leave C states disabled and probably a GPU overclock is not going to be good for the machine in the long run

my big problem now is I seem to be getting some sort of (presumably) CPU Throttling while playing Witcher 3. A very demanding game for sure, and taxing on both CPU and GPU, but I get sudden and severe frame rate drops including during rendered cut scenes. It seems to be some sort of PROCHOT signal throttling the CPU as the CPU is not getting over low 80s (with a -150UV) and GPU remains high 70s.... I can't work it out and Throttlestop doesn't seem to help either.

Has anyone worked out a way to disable any kind of non-Intel system CPU throttling in the BIOS?

Yeah EC version is v4 so the latest. I self-diagnosed the problem as GPU-throttling, which surprisingly seems to kick-in as low as 78C.

I've since completed several repastes. It turns out IC Diamond 7 works a treat on these machines, possibly because the heatsinks are crap in terms of chip contact, in particular the GPU heatsink is a terrible design as the heatpipes have gaps in the contact with the GPU, creating air gaps.

The below is my final results running Firestrike at stock clocks
    - FireStrike score 9358 (QHD+ model @ native resolution)
    - CPU Max Temp 71C
    - GPU Max Temp 73C
    And settings:
    - Heavy pasting of IC Diamond on both CPU and GPU. I started with a pea size blob, but following being a bit more liberal in line with guidance I read elsewhere the temps went down. Substantially better results than Kryonaut.
    - CPU Undervolt 150 on Core/Ring in BIOS
    - Laptop elevated a few inches for fan clearance (about 5-6C diff)
    - CPU Power settings at 99% to prevent boost clocks and associated higher temps
    - ASPM Disabled in BIOS
    - CPU and GPU clocks all stock
    - v2.00 modified BIOS, v4.00 EC
    - Razer Synapse in Cool Mode

Higher scores over 10K can be achieved with
    - C States Disabled in BIOS
    - RAM overclocking
    - GPU Core/RAM Overclocking
    - CPU power settings 100% to allow boost
However, all of these settings have serious compromises (either heat, power usage, longevity of components) which are not worth it IMHO.

    Hey,

I tried to flash the Bios of my Geforce 1060 Laptop on my Late 2016 Razer Blade.

I followed this Guide using Version 5.287: https://www.overclock.net/forum/69-nvidia/1523391-easy-nvflash-guide-pictures-gtx-970-980-a.html

Unfortunetaly I always get the error message that no NVIDIA Device could be found.

Hope, you can help me out here.

    Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I started an account here to try and make sense of my blade and why I can't seem to get the temperatures down. I have tried to undervolt my laptop with throttlestop and I can't seem to get proper temperatures. I still drift into the 90s and I even went out to get a cooling pad.

What settings have people been able to get undervolting this model of Razer? It is doing my head in. I had the core, cache and gpu all at -125 and it seemed ok, but then I started messing with the other stuff like C1E, Disable Turbo and Speed Shift.

Can anyone please share their settings?

I have a razer blade 14 2016 with nvidia 1060gtx and Intel HD 530 Integrated.

i was using my laptop plugged via hdmi in my 4k tv with intel hd 530 disabled from control panel in Windows 10 1803 to improve peformance and remove lag while browsing the web and watching videos at 4k 60 hz at the TV. So I removed the laptop from tv and when I went to control panel to enable intel hd 530 the notebook freezed and went blackscreen.

I tried reinstall the intel drivers latest version, it continues to freeze with a blackscreen where nothing shows and I can move the mouse cursor.

So i tried making a windows 10 clean install but if I try to install the intel GPU driver then my screen turns black, and the only way to use my computer again is to uninstall the intel GPU from Safe Mode. The problem is using the notebook with intel gpu disabled i cannot adjust notebook screen bright and the screen is too lag and slow response to the commands.

The same problem happens if I don't block Windows update, as it is trying to update the driverformattings of intel GPU.

The other GPU, a NVIDIA 1060gtx, is working without problem if a plug the notebook via HDMI to play games on the TV but if I try to play games using the notebook monitor I get very low frame rates.

I tried a lot of solutions but nothing fixes the problem (reinstalling everything in different orders, BIOS reset to factory values, clean install windows 10), but nothing change the problem.

Is my integrated intel GPU dead or defective? Is this a software or hardware problem?

I was searching the internet and saw a lot of people had this problem with different brands of pcs and notebooks but i could not find a fix for me.

So just got the bill for some work around the house and sadly will have to return my Razer blade 15. I was wondering if I get a RB 14 7700hq/1060 for $1000, would it serve as a nice secondary machine?

Yes, it's still a fine machine so long as you make proper cooling adjustments and undervolting.

repaste with high quailty thermal paste, new thermal pads of higher quality, elevate the laptop when gaming to get better air flow, undervolt the CPU and GPU.

    Hey people, new here.
I want to repaste my blade with some kryonaut and I want to change the thermal pads too (Don't trust Razer with those things)
Anybody what the pad thickness is?
Also do you know any good brand of pads? (Don't have the budget for the Fujipoly, also hard to get where I live)

Forget about replacing the thermal pads. Doesn't change a thing. Waste of money and time.
    The heatsink is the problem.

Well I watch a Pbhenry3 video where he mentioned having some VRM failures where it seems like the VRM heated up quite badly and the pads melted down, I don't trust razer's OG pads.

    Here is the Video:

Arctic thermal pads will work fine, but I don't remember the thickness needed. 1mm for sure, but not sure if 1.5mm or 0.5mm is needed as well. Some places Razer just used thermal paste, so perhaps some k5 pro as well would help.

Hey guys, I got another question.

I was thinking about flashing the 2017 vBIOS on my 2016 blade using nvflash as proposed by sproyd
I downloaded nvflash 5.287 but if I type nvflash --list on an administrator command prompt, I get a "No NVIDIA display adapters found." error message.

Anybody has any idea on what I am doing wrong?

EDIT: Well I solved the issues by using the latest version of nvflash on techpowerup ( https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-nvflash-with-board-id-mismatch-disabled/)

Hey guys, me again, (Sorry for the double post)

Does anyone know if there are any good third party power brick for the late 2016 RB14?

I think that my power adapter is dying (Started discharging while gaming but quite fast, battery fully drained within few hours of gaming) and I would like to check what my options are before it dies.
Also the original charger is like 160 € here in Europe so f*ck razer for the rip-off ...

I've seen people mentioning a 180 W Delta Electronics (Used for MSI laptop) but I'm not too sure (would the difference in Wattage pose a problem?)

Most important is Voltage and Polarity. The amps and thus watts just has to equal or greater than the original. Sorry can't help with the correct replacement model, since I got my replacement from Razer.

I just acquired one of these for free since it was "broken"...all it needed was a EC reset.

However, the fan speed SUCKS on this thing. Even on idle the fan speed is quite high. I want to have the fans off at idle.....already modded the BIOS and adjusted the settings there but they do not seem to take effect. Liquid ultra on the CPU, mastergel maker on the GPU since Razer was so kind to not give us a flat surface to work with.

Yeah the fan curve is controlled by the EC and not by the BIOS, unfortunately. The skylake model does have the fan running all the time, but they did release an EC update to make it run at a lower RPM when idling. The Kabylake version the fans are off when idling/low temps.

Yeah when I first got my blade 14 with 6700hq it was noticable at idle. Once they released the update it made a world of difference. At the time I was finishing up college and was afraid it was too loud at idle and everyone was gonna judge me for being that guy with a load computer during a lecture.

Hi guys, can someone who owns a 2017 RB 14 provide the 4.02 BIOS?
I need the dump version, since I'll have to program it with the chip programmer.

    Thanks in advance :)
