Yes, I had the same problem after installing Windows 8 Pro. I am assuming that you are having trouble with the second audio device (which is the HDMI audio for the Blade.)
Try forcing the installation of the Intel HD 4000 graphic driver directly from the Razer website (go to 'support' area, and then look for the driver's for Windows 8.)
When you tried installing that driver, you probably got a message that you had a newer driver for that graphic card (and the graphic device seems to be working fine.) Ignore that message and force the installation of the driver from the Razer website (don't use the one that gets installed by default. )
If that doesn't solve your issue (after forcing the driver from razer's site), I would contact razer's support group.

jeez, pound for pound i'm just not sure anyone has made a gaming laptop that can play this well for its diminutive size and weight. hate to go on like this but crysis 3 is the beeznees, and watching it side by side with my xbox 360 version vs. running it at 1080p with very high textures (everything else low) is fantastic. the 660m is a fantastic little graphics card. If you want eye candy that will blow folks away with your blade, crysis 3 is the game to get right now.

I think I bought the wrong game to showcase my Blade lol, I got Dishonored since I've heard so many good things. And it's a nice game, but the graphics could be a tad better. Which games would you guys recommend which was released in 2012? Let's just say 2012 was a time I was practically in prison and was a lost year for me :p

A good friend soldered everything back together for me, more intricate wiring in that thing than I thought. Not your simple 1 wire system, had 2 different sets and the outer layer had to be connected a certain way to make it work. I'm still going to try to get a replacement from Razer, turn in the old one for a new one hopefully. Otherwise I might end up with 2 which would be nice I suppose!

Skyrim was probably the Game of the Year in 2012 for the PC. Great visuals and incredibly high replay value. even better, new mods come out frequently that will help enhance its visuals over time.

Thank you sir! Fixed it and it fixed my lack of HDMI audio!

On the other hand the original OS had some bad wallpapers and a neat boot logo and I kind of lost all this when I wiped it.

Any chance that anyone has a clone or a copy of the restore USB?

Anyone else having trouble getting EVE Online to use the NVIDIA GPU and not the stupid Intel GPU? I did a driver update on the NVIDIA stuff and I tried making a custom profile and forcing it with no luck. Also, EVE does not allow me to select it.

yes, customization is the name of the game. the touchpad really would lend itself to a map quick navigator for RTS games. wish there were more switchblade apps available at present. expecting more in the future. get to play with my brother's new asus G75VW with the 670M card (not the new 670MX). Its fancy b/c it has 3d display built in. wanna see just how well the 660m competes in games like crysis 3 in comparison. been told the 660m can run just as well or even better in some cases, especially with overclocking (something I still haven't really done on my blade).

My friends G75 got a lot better frames in WoW than my Blade, I think that's primarily becuase of his CPU OC though, because everything I've read says the 660m is a little behind the 670m with any game running DX9, but DX11 it's on par or better after OC'ing because the 660m has a way higher thermal head room than the 670m does.

I've pushed the 660m all the way to 1170/3000 OC. That was my limit after that I experienced artifacting...

There are some with the 660m in their G75's that have taken the 660m all the way up to 1300 clock though, some higher! WOW!

that's crazy high, wouldn't venture to do that with my Blade. Imagine the fans inside the G75 (typing on it now, wanna check out the 3D screen) are larger than the Blade so cooling is more efficient. But good Lord, THE BLADE IS SO MUCH LIGHTER ITS REEEEDICULOUS! Even the PSU on the G75 is a monster....

Virgin post! Long time lurker, first time poster. Keen on getting this laptop, certainly is one of a kind! The question I have is are there going to be significant enough upgrades in the R3 to make buying an R2 now a bad decision? The last thing I want to do is drop $2.5k on a laptop that I'm going to regret in 6 months time!

    Thanks in advance!

i think the R3 will have a more significant CPU boost in the next iteration, with haswell arriving towards the end of the year. Dunno about NVIDIA's offerings, might just be rebadged 660M (760M with higher clocks) or something. Also suspect the next Blade may go back to SSD drive (with the prices on SSDs falling) at at least a 128GB MSATA primary drive and maybe 750MB HDD or something. So I think the R3 Blade will be significantly better for battery life. But doubt we will see a refresh with the new CPU till Q4 or even Q1 next year.

My advice is if you have the money for the R2 now, buy it now, don't wait another 3 or 4 months, then you'll just be stuck waiting. It plays the latest and greatest games right now and should be a revevant gaming laptop for a while longer. Even the R1 still plays modern games pretty well, minus the resolution compromises you might have to make.

    Hey RB owners,
I'm about to buy my Razer Blade tomorrow.... There's one thing I need to know, though: What switchblade UI hacks have come out, and is it possible to use the LCD to bring up a foreign language keyboard?

Welcome to the club. There are no switchblade hacks available. As for using the LCD to bring up a foreign keyboard, thats definitely possible, as you can create your own icons and map them to any key.

Probably not going to be a big diff in R2 to R3. The 760m (assuming they don't do a 770m since the 70's will be in Kepler now) won't be but an oc'd 660m like John said. Usually the only time you see drastic changes in gpu's is when they make new architecture. The 760m will just be an oc'd 660m more than likely. And like said I've already taken my 660 to 1170...760m will probably have a base clock of 970 or something.

Depending when razer launches it, haswell may be in it may not be, been if it is, were going to get the throttled down mobile version as usual so it might have a 2.4ghz base clock? Not an big diff there, should get better battery life like John said though!

Only huge change that is possible from r2 to r3 would be changes to the blade itself via razer, they take all the feedback from then users and apply it to the next gen so there very well may be something really cool in the pipes for the r3. Doubtful though. The cooling system was already redone, the next frontier in cooling now would be water cooling and the blade is too thin to support that IMO. Doubt they'll change anything to switchblade...although I bet they add blue to the backlit key board.

Hey Guys, this may have been mentioned, but i thought i would ask anyway.. Can the razerblade be upgraded at all? ie SSD and ram? as my m14x r2 out performs it with a 512gb ssd and 16gb ram with the better 3rd gen i7.

does the case open, and are the parts soldered?

    Hello

Just got my R2 today ... and needed to install Win 7 Prof.

Now I no longer have the start up sounds, etc.

I tried the link a few pages back from Cynaide - post #1510 - but the link is not working.

    Any ideas?

Thanks for the help if possible.

Yes you can upgrade the mSATA drive up to a 256Gb and the HDD can be swapped for an SSD as well...Ram can also be upgraded to 16 Gig but if you're not a sound engineer, or do a lot of audo/video work on your laptop...having 16 gigs RAM is a pretty moot point to bring up in terms of "out performing" the blade, the only thing that would bring up performance differences would be the RAM speed...which is the same speed as your M14X...

Case does open up, only thing soldered might be the GPU and CPU, no ones tried to upgrade that. Probably wouldn't want to though, something so thin already has small heat head room!

Yeah, that's all par for the course from upgrading. Just need a working link for the audio files so you can download it. I too have a USB recov stick from razer, I'll try to pull the files and maybe I can just email them out to you guys open request. I just got done moving to my house today thoughh so it might take me a couple of days to find the dern thing!

Thanks, but what does that have to do with the foreign keyboard? So you mean I can assign a key to bring up a foreign keyboard program on the LCD? And how does the keyboard size itself to fill the LCD properly? Shouldn't the secondary screen apps be custom-made for it?

There are no foreign keyboards apps for it, and I don't think Razer would roll one out anytime soon, there's a ton of demand for apps for PC games, etc, not a whole lot for keyboard support, so y'know...when they spend their resources making apps it'll be for games...You can fiddle arond with the SDK they gave out for free for the SBUI though and try to make one though I s'pose :x

Okay, so, . They launch this media app (which I'm sure is based off the work the guy did with his VLC app on the developer forum lol) and it plays video at 30fps or higher (it's smooth) yet on the youtube app we're still getting choppy playback at 24 fps?? C'mon Razer...

My friend, you are a gun!! i have been looking everywhere for this information. I am gonna buyone as i use it all day for work, but I play bf3 at night and lotro. keeping in mind the m14x r2 does this brilliant, but i think i would prefer the bigger screen. Did it take a long time for u all to get used to using the switch blade as a mouse pad when doing normal office use?

also does the lappy get really hot when gaming as there isnt much ventilation or how ever you spell it?

Case does open up, only thing soldered might be the GPU and CPU, no ones tried to upgrade that. Probably wouldn't want to though, something so thin already has small heat head room!

Upgrading the laptop is not a simple task but if you have a lot of light and you take it very slowly and examine the laptops internals before just removing screws you should be OK. The hardest part is installing the RAM, you need to lift the motherboard and you must be careful to re-seat it well and aligned because it makes contact with metal plates below for thermal purposes. Secondly, pulling the motherboard up will lift the flaps on the heat-syncs by the fans, you must remove and re-seat the fans or the flaps will block air flow! I have successfully upgraded the mSATA SSD to 240GB and the mechanical drive to an SSD. I have also bumped the RAM to 16GB and did a fresh install of windows using UEFI as my bootloader. The laptop is running AMAZING!

I am however looking for ANYONE who has a copy of the original sounds, boot logo etc. All the links in this thread are dead! I will host the data if someone will provide it. A direct download no BS.

I can get them to you tomorrow

Warranties with computers are hit or miss in my experience, you either get something DoA, or you never experience a problem until well after the warranty is out...If your computer runs fine for atleast 30 days, its been my experience (and many of my friends) that your computer isn't going to fail within the 1 year warranty period. Only thing that could go wrong is you messing something up while upgrading it, in which case, it's your fault :p

I mod my computers, I mod my cars, all inside their warranties :D - I could have just been incredibly lucky thus far and will be VERY disappointed someday, but whats that thing they say now-a-days? YOLO? lol

I inspected it from the start to see if it presented any possible flaws but it seemed to be in perfect working order. As the other have said ether the laptop will be DOA or it will have issues which will be present from the start. No dead pixels, no physical damage, everything worked. I had planned to upgrade it long before I purchased it. The initial specs are not that great but you are paying for the build quality. Like if you go out and buy a nice computer case, you add on to it. Granted the laptop is not intended to be upgraded by the end user the components like memory etc are removable so it does leave some options open.

    @Hemotherapy

Thanks man! Send them my way and I will get them hosted.

Awesome, I'm so jelly, I managed to do all these things you did EXCEPT install Windows 8 in UEFI as bootloader. I know all the peeps here keep telling me that it doesn't matter but there's this itch in me telling me I should be installing in UEFI instead of in Legacy mode.

    Hey guys!

I know I disappeared for some time.... Life got in the way, but here is preview of my calculator app. I am currently getting it reviewed by Razer. Also, some other improvements for the app are in the works (current version has some bugs). Also, I have started on a few more apps, like a native email viewer. I hope to have more to show / give soon.

Looks good. When you have a stable version, i would love to have it. This is one of those small things that would make the switchblade that much more useful.

    Cheers.

LOL I know man it's driving me batty :D My Blade is performing very very well otherwise :D Got myself a new Xbox 360 controller, wasn't able to find any local stores in our area that carries the Razer Sabertooth, didn't want to settle the Onza after reading bad reviews for it :p

One thing I want to test though is how the emulators will perform on it.Will be borrowing some of my brother's old Wii and PS2 games to test.Hopefully I'd be playing FFXII, Little King's Story and Xenoblade before the weekend ends :D

carbon fiber blade 2.jpg CARBON FIBER BLADE.jpg

I want to share what I did with my Blade yesterday: I had it skinned with black carbon fiber. Doing it for style, scratch protection, and less fingerprint smudging. Whatcha guys think? :D
