The internals don't sound amazing, but you have to remember it's playing at ____x768, it's not going to need a whole lot of oomph to play games at great settings![]()
The thing that kills me is I'd have to spend an extra $250 + Whatever the keyboard dock is (probably another 150-200) to entertain the idea of purchasing it, which brings me up to 1300-1400 price range, 1600-1700 if I was buying the pro lol - That's R1 Blade money right there!

-
I had no idea....249.99 for a controller....
Wow. Just....wow -
you know it does have a usb 3.0 port right? can always use a corded or wireless controller with it. mine ships tomorrow.
-
Okay this time they called me to let me know my blade was being shipped out today and they will email the tracking number to me, so hopefully its true this time. He told me they are sending it 2 day shipping. Does that mean I will get it Friday or Saturday. and does UPS deliver on Saturdays or will I be waiting till monday?
I was thinking about purchasing the Razer Edge but I think I should just relax and enjoy my blade for a while, especially since I only had it for a day before shipping it for repair lol. It looks cool though, let me know how it is Sir John. -
are you referring to the patriot or the edge John?
ignore i see you mean the edge -
Well as long as its free mate you have done alright, you now have a opened Blade under warranty so fill it full of goodies dude... With mine it has been determined it was lost at the couriers(or the driver fell in love with it and knicked it more like) anyways ocuk did well they just resent the order gotta wait an hour now to see if this one registers with the new tracking number, so barring disasters it will be waiting for me on friday when i get home
Oh i would guess friday UPS are pretty reliable... funny we will both be sat refreshing the tracking # page... GL -
Ups only delivers m-f. 2 day air shipped today means you would get it Friday

Didn't know that but a controller means you'd need to prop it up on something, maybe the HD dock? But thats $100 iirc. Adding wireless or wired controller works but it causes another problem lol - how do you prop it up! Razer did right by making that accessory for it, just did us wrong with how expensive it is

gotta praise razer tech support as well. my original gen 1 blade had a defective key and whiny fan, they swapped it out super fast, less than a week's time. also nice to see sdot doesn't have to fit the repair bill. I understand why razer is warning blade owners about opening the internals (imagine the switchblade ui is expensive to repair/replace), but next iteration i would encourage them to just put tamper stickers on certain components and internal screws; asus does this with some of their laptops such as with the gpu and cpu access. they have to realize that being die hard gamers we would also want full ssd drives in our units. my humble suggestion to the razer guys... though at the same time, it may be a case-by-case basis on which the warranty won't be completely voided, but only after an examination by razer tech support will they determine if the warranty should be honored or not. Still wouldn't press my luck (and definitely won't be opening the Razer Edge Pro anytime soon).
-
You don't think they did something to the blade for them to figure out if I would open it again lol? I do kinda want to put in a 500 gb ssd and 256gb Msata but I am a bit scared now. Maybe I should just enjoy the stock blade for now because of what I have been through.
If so that is awesome, now its time to take PTO for Saturday.
I agree, they should put those stickers on the cpu and gpu but not things that guys like us swap out on the regular. Why would people be messing with the switchblade? or you mean just to clean it or something?
edit: I want to format my desktop but I want to save about 400gb worth of videos that I recorded with fraps because being able to pull up the video as if I am playing the game brings back so many sweet memories. whats the best way to do this without buying an external hard drive? -
my blade r1 got small particles underneath the clear plastic keys, and even an eyelash hair. i contacted a good guy at razer who had been following up on my impressions of the unit since i was a first wave adopter, and asked what to do about it. he contacted me later that afternoon with a suggestion from tech support to use compressed air with a straw. i did this and was able to blow the eyelash away from the display (still inside the switchblade ui hardware somewhere I'm sure). another fleck of dust remained but eventually moved on its own. by the way, i haven't had any problems with particles or anything with my blade r2 so that's a relief, but it might be tempting to open the switchblade housing from inside the laptop and try to clean it. I would definitely advise against that!
if anybody does see dust show up inside their keys let me know (especially with their R2 Blade Unit). -
According to what happend to Sdot it seems like they'll take the R1's and R2's now and as long as they can't prove it was the swapping out of the HDD that caused the problem then they'll honor the warranty. mSata is proabably a different story though. I imagine that they put up that crack it open void your warranty stuff just as a precaution to prevent them from having to "battle" people when they claim they only swapped the HDD but did other things to the blade and lie about it. Seems to me they just do it on a case by case basis. Which is great
I've had a couple of dust particles pop into mine. Canned air to the rescue! -
wow you would do that, how do your balls fit in your pants lol? I would be too scared.
Good to hear things have been fixed from R1 to R2 though. -
no i did not nor would i open the switchblade ui components
-
If I was going to open up switchblade components, I would buy that $250 death adder keyboard that has the SBUI on it, and open that up. lol...Practice for the Blade!
-
lol smart thinking
I actually forgot about that keyboard, because I would rather just buy an additional monitor than look at a mini screen on my keyboard. -
If the Blade had a 680m I'd be all over it. Unfortunately nay.... Maybe in R3?
-
Whoop Whoop trackin says mine is in Birmingham... which is further away then where it started but at least i,m on the map...
-
In its current form simple physics says not, heat, size, power pull would go up a tremendous amount, meaning bigger chassis fans battery etc... What maybe you will see is a new gpu that can get near its performance with little increase from the gtx660,s heat power figures. Like the gtx 675 is basically the old top of the range gtx5 series card, same as the CPU probs be a 2.7 quad haswell that can run low wattage and all the other power saving tings that will come with haswell, with dx11 games not getting much more cpu gpu hungary it will feel/bench like you have a 680 and could possibly use less power...
-
Not possible with the chasis. As hardware keeps catching up to software someday the blade will just be amazing. I mean, it already is in my opinion, but it will undoubtedly be eventually. Probably with the next arch type from nvidia we could get a higher tier gpu in the blade though, that or a really good redesigned cooling system. I think that's already been done with the R2 though!
yep. -
Just got my Death Adder 2013 unpacked and plugged in. First impressions: OMAHGERD 6400 DPI! SO SMOOTH ~_~ Also my hand said "aaaaah...this is a nice fit"
more to come as I use it more lol -
The guy on toms hardware says the blade screen came out cool(blue) from factory settings and with it recalibrated he says it looks much better... see for yourself

Thanks for that, it's an interesting device that external wireless storage for using with tablets and phones too.
I'm glad you clarified that the HDD was 7mm thick. Makes thinks a bit more difficult, as I would want to get a 1TB (or even 2TB if possible) 7200rpm HDD to put in there, but I'm not actually finding any 7mm versions. -
Very interesting. Looks like I really need to look into calibrating the screen.Wask said: ↑The guy on toms hardware says the blade screen came out cool(blue) from factory settings and with it recalibrated he says it looks much better... see for yourself

Yeah, shows the blade is on the cutting edge of tech, at the min 500gb 7200rpm 7mm is the largest but between now and your warranty ending i,m sure that will be up to 1TB give it a year and there will be 1tb ssd in this form aswell... -
Not really, you might be able to find one on amazon or ebay on the cheap though.Gaz552 said: ↑Very interesting. Looks like I really need to look into calibrating the screen.

Yes'suh they will. I still have my one and a half inch thick 200Gig HDD from my first desktop build back in 2004. What's the deal with the Razer Edge being on backorder for so long?
-
Demand was so high they had to stop people from being able to pre-order it...Small company made a way bigger ripple in the large pond than they expected, their manufacturer wasn't ready remotely ready for so many units because of a low end forecast from Razer. The won the equivalent of a triple crown @ CES, hasn't happend in a long time. They just didn't expect people to respond the way they did to it lol...darkdomino said: ↑What's the deal with the Razer Edge being on backorder for so long?Click to expand...
Hopefully this'll show razer they need to use their FB fans for more input on how to build their stuff
P.S. I FINALLY APPLIED A SCREEN PROTECTOR ON MY BLADE WITH ZERO BUBBLES! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY -

A screen protector for your blade? Oh yes, for the touchpad. I forgot about it. It lasts forever, haven't replaced mine. Makes scrolling smoother too. Would love to see gorilla glass next time though instead of plastic. -
Razer edge pro reviews pouring in today. All the reviews saying what I expected. Some pretty funny ones too about using it in the bathroom....

Think my mind is made up for Bioshock Infinite to be its virgin run out after i get all me software loaded... with bursts online of l4d2 and bf3 no doubt... would like to try and create something for traktor dj software you could make the switch ui and buttons into a cdj for that reality touch, maybe gonna need to get a proper c++ geek interested in the idea but i think it has legs... -
Engadget are the guys I usually go to for reviews...with only information to go off myself I think they've hit the nail on the head on what I'd think about the Edge.

really recommend tomb raider for the blade. bioshock infinite is fun so far but tomb raider is truly my game of the year so far.

GRRR, Edge hasn't shipped out, guess its not till tomorrow or even next week (lame). I would have paid for overnight but it wasn't an available option. Have a great idea for a youtube vid starring my Blade (Papa) and my Edge (Baby).

My blade comes back tomorrow too, so make that 6:15. (I realized this doesn't make sense because I have to wait for UPS so go ahead and go with Wask's 6:30)Wask said: ↑Hemo I want you out of bed 06:30 at the latest

So...everyone today at work vanished..I'm like..the only one here...Time to play on the blade all day! AW YEAH!
Got to thinkin' yesteraday though while playing B Ops 2 and Diablo 3....The right vent be workin' its butt off (the GPU) but the left vent...hardly workin' at all!
Really wish we could OC the CPU...That thing has plenty of thermal room for a better clock...RAZER! LET MY BIOS GO!

Hey, I am the guy that wrote the Razer review. I spend most of my time on NBR in the Precision Workstation forums.Wask said: ↑I,m starting to think the 3632 is an early haswell part as the guy reviewing cannot work out why it performs so well...Click to expand...
Wask - thanks again for the letting me know the pics were here. They were posted a little too late for me to see them. I do like the fact that everything in the machine is taped down.
On why the 3632QM performs so well...
First, Razer runs the cpu in max turbo mode all of the time. Running all 4 cores, it will stay at 2.9Ghz for as long as you want it to thanks to the Blade's cooling system. A 3720qm or 3740qm will be faster, but only when the machine they are running in can keep clocks in turbo mode. If the 3720qm falls to the base frequency of 2.6Ghz or the 3740QM to 2.7Ghz because the machine can't keep up with the heat, the Blade at 2.9Ghz will be faster.
The other part to think about is that the 3632qm's internal HD4000 gpu will be used less since you have the GTX 660M. This means all of the 35 watt tdp for the overall cpu and gpu can go to just the cpu. Looking at some numbers that I still have here, at 2.9Ghz, the GT Cores Power is 0.079 watts and the overall CPU package power is 32.807 watts. As long as the the gpu load stays off the 3632QM, it will never even hit the full 35 watt TDP of the chip.
In normal use, the 3632QM would top out around 90C if I was really pushing it. The package spec says the chip has a max temp of 105C.
