Man a 1TB SSD seems a little extreme...lol..I guess the added battery life from having all SSD and lack of noise would be nice...I suppose I could just go dual ssd and buy an external hdd...I just need a place to keep all my shows and anime I download to watch!
Raid'ing a 480 msata with a samsung 840 pro would be pretty nice too -
I am having a problem with the SBUI. All the functions still work such as the track pad app, but noting displays on the tactile keys or the trackpad. Is there any fix for this?
-
Okay, so when you use the trackpad app the setup of buttons and background you had isn't working?
The background not showing has been an issue with the latest update to Synapse, you have to reset the image every now and again, sad, but I'm sure there will be a fix for that soon.
As far as your track pad app not having your tactile key settings correct, I'm assuming you mean it now shows the standard 1-10 green numbers? If so, go to your Synapse and make sure your profile you setup originally is the one that is selected, it will RARELY switch to a default profile and not a saved one you have, on the left hand side there is a drop down to pick your profile, pick the one your stuff is saved to OR hit Function + 1 or 2 or 3 whichever number your profile is. That's the shortcut for swapping profiles. -
Has anyone gotten their hands on the Razer Edge yet? I'm regretting having gone through BestBuy.com as they have my order stuck in processing for like 3 days now. Ugh.

My Edge Pro arrived. Downloading games from Steam over WiFi kinda sucks. I'm doing a backup of games from my gaming PC so I can restore them to the Edge Pro. I've already ordered a USB 3.0 GigE adapter (StarTech).
I don't see a way to open the tablet. Guess they did the same thing MS did with the Surface Pro, so not much point to holding out for a 480GB mSATA or something.
The OS is Windows 8, not Pro. Kinda annoying. Also, no 5.8Ghz radio. That could be why the WiFi is so poor. 2.4Ghz is way congested where I live.
The controller add-on has a metal frame. I can see why it's $250. The battery compartment is just begging to be filled.
The power adapter is twice as thick as a Blade's, but it's not as long. Depressingly, it is a custom adapter head so you can't just buy a third party adapter. I can see myself buying a second for the dock.
The screen is beautiful. I've used a Surface Pro and it's hard to tell the difference between the two. For gerfingerpoken I don't think there's much of a problem with the screen being 1366x768. -
Grrr.... crisis 3 shuts the whole tablet down after playing for about two minutes.... overheating. Looks like I have a lemon.... talking with support now.
-
Have a return label ready to go but am reverting back to old drivers first to see if that stops crisis from shutting everything off.
-
Aside from my overheating issues I can say with the limited time I played with the Edge I have enjoyed it. The casing feels just as durable (scratchproof) as the Blade, unlike my surface pro that scuffed in the back too easily.
Observation: the gpu downclocks when the tablet is unplugged (crysis did not caush it to shut down when running unplugged) so there is a 30 percent or so performance hit id say based on fraps.... However, when running unpkugged but connected to the controller dock the gpu runs at full power (do not have extra battery) so thats good to know. My guess is whenever the Edge detects the dock it will run on full performance mode (didnt try adjusting power plans) even when unplugged, including the hdmi and laptop docks.
The controller dock is very high build quality, but i have to dial down the sensitivity. there is no restore partition, was told over the phone you need a razer usb restore drive. Didnt get to play with battery life or any other games, sorry gang. Am told i will have my replacement shipped out asap. -
-
BOOM! -
The R2 doesn't have the problem. -
-
have to give major kudos again to Razer for their customer support. Was able to talk with tech support (30 second wait window) and walk through diagnosis of the Edge. In a few moments I had a return label emailed to me for an overnight return via UPS, and then was contacted via email and twitter by several CS reps, and even a twitter from Min letting me know my replacement Edge Pro should be shipped out tomorrow. Really top notch support and is much appreciated.

also would have to say the sound quality coming from the edge speakers is really very nice, better than my surface pro and ipad 4. The fan is loud (though maybe b/c mine was defective it doesn't get as loud normally) when gaming but the speakers are plenty loud enough to compensate. I'd say my Note 10.1 speakers might be louder but probably only b/c they are located on the face of the tablet, not the bottom like the Edge. Good quality sound as well.

Razer was good about getting me a replacement gen 1 Blade (faulty GPU as well). Overnight both ways was appreciated.
I've been reading reviews and so far the closest in experience/expectation appears to be Gizmodo's, though I have to wonder if the screen quality control has issues. My screen quality seems to be great (and I own a retina iPad and Kindle Fire HD) and the touch controls seem to be on-par with the iPad. It does take a while to get used to Windows 8 gestures and even at 1366x768 the regular desktop requires several attempts, but it seemed worse for the Surface Pro so I'm not sure what miracles people were expecting.
The controller takes some getting used to. I hope they can improve on the arrangement for the second gen. My thumbs are used to two diagonals for control so having buttons in line with the sticks is odd. I'm also not sure how they intended the triggers to be used. Middle finger for triggers and index finger for bumpers doesn't seem right as the frame plus tablet is too heavy to hold with just ring and pinky fingers (and this is coming from someone who does not find the Edge and Surface Pro to be too heavy to be tablets). The top bumpers seem to be too far to use if the index finger is on the trigger. Not sure what the intent was.
Not having a keyboard seems to mean no BIOS access. Supposedly holding down the Windows button on power-up gets into the BIOS on Win8 tablets, but no luck so far.
Next is to find a backpack for the tablet with the controller attached. Something hard shell may be in order to protect the thumb sticks, though a skater pack with the Edge velcro'ed in where a skateboard should go could be kinda cool. -
As usual Razer CS is amazing though, no surprise there. -
Seems like a lot of people are criticizing the Razer Edge because of the cost and the fact that it's not desktop level performance...I have to shake my head a little because these people are missing the point entirely.
-
Anyone else notice how the newest update to synapse makes your user selected wallpaper not show up on your trackpad while at the "home screen" on the SBUI? When I go to my trackpad app itself, it applies it, but when I hit the home button it goes back to default again! If you reapply it it'll save the change but once you reboot it's back to default again...

I am really wanting to buy one of the sleeves for my razer blade, i have asked the supplier of the blade in the uk see if they could get one in their next shipment but to no avail. Razer dont do international postage and it is unavailable in their uk online store. anyone fancy buying it and sending it to me if i paypal them the amount necessary inc postage and a price of a beer for the favour?
oh i have a free postage code within the usa for razer... -
-
-- I have no trouble mailing it to you as long as it doesn't cost me anything and I'm not held responsible for customs holding it
If the sleeve had a handle on it is snatch one up for something easier to use to take it to work

I Lol'd at the WRT54G, those get max 12Mbs throughput on any interface, you will see higher numbers in speedtest, but real life is waaaay lower.
I'm a pro technician and networking guy, and am dumbfounded by the amount of "Gamers" I see using old/substandard networking gear, then blame everything but their trusty old router. Same guys don't update firmware, drivers, and system before complaining.
I use the fouth one on here: Router Charts - WAN to LAN Throughput - SmallNetBuilder (The RT-N56U, with a cusotm FW) -
-
is anyone keen to sell your blade? 1st or 2nd generation would be fine
please drop me an email if you have 1
[email protected]
thanks ahead! -
I've honestly never thought about updating firmware, drivers and what not. Not all "Gamers" are cut from the same networking cloth- Routers are like aquaglobes to a lot of people, set it and forget it!
Some of us actually have decent routers though and were having issues...Drivers on Razer's site just didn't work well on Win8!

Hello everyone,
I just purchased a 1st gen Razer Blade from someone on craigslist for $800. It's in perfect condition without any scratches. The only issue was that he removed the 256gb SSD to install a 1tb drive for more space. He also gave me the original receipt so I was under the impression that it was still under warranty. Upon reading this thread, I learned that it is no longer under warranty since he opened it. Therefore I want to reopen and install a 512GB crucial M4. I just have a few questions about the install.
What's the best way to copy everything to the new drive? From what I've read here, some people say to use clonezilla. The current drive has the Razer recovery partitiion intact so I would like to keep that on the new drive. There's another thread on here that talks about swapping drives but that info is for the Gen 2. Can I just follow that guide?
Also, can anyone recommend a good sleeve? I have a sleeve for my 17 inch MBP but it doesn't fit the Razer. I noticed Razer has one on their site but it seems to be a bit too much for something without a handle. Should I just go with that or is there anything better out there?
Thanks for all the help! -
welcome to the blade community! $800 for a pristine gen 1 blade is a great deal i think. you will have to dial down your resolution settings for some games, and play with AO off and probably DX11 off as well but it was still a great laptop for me. as for a sleeve, aside from the official razer blade sleeve sold online you are out of luck it seems. The Blade is longer than other 17" laptops, and I was never able to find one that would fit. the blade neoprene sleeve fits perfectly and it very cushiony, which makes it much thicker to transport than just sticking the blade under your arm and the power adapter in your pocket. I use the sleeve every now and then, however. As for laptop backpacks, strongly recommend the InCase Macbook Pro 15/17" backpack. Its a very tight fit, eventually my Blade stretched it out to make it slide in and out just fine, but its a lightweight pack and has a plushy microfiber interior to hold the blade. A really slim backpack that works great IMHO. I may buy the Razer Blade laptop bag one day as well if I ever pay off my Razer Edge that is...
Replacement Edge Pro coming tomorrow... Wonder if notebookreview will let me set up a separate thread for the Edge? I'd rather discuss it here than at tabletpcreview.com which doesn't seem to have a large audience at all at this point. -

Amazon.com: Incase Nylon Backpack, Black (CL55301): Computers & Accessories
If so, it looks pretty sleek and the price is right. So far, I'm loving the Blade even though I'm still in the honeymoon period. I don't mind dialing back my graphics settings since I have a pretty beefy eyefinity rig at home that let's me turn up the settings. I've loaded battlefield 3 and it's pretty playable once I turned down the resolution and settings. Is there a tips thread or a thread around here for first time owners? I'm just curious to know if there are any tweaks that I can apply.
Nice to see that you have an Edge Pro. Were you charged full price for the Pro and the controller? I've read a few places that the controller was supposed to be bundled with the high end model but I don't see that configuration listed on amazon or bestbuy. There's also an interview where the CEO said that it's supposed to be bundled. -
my incase backpack is thinner than the one you have listed at amazon and only has one strap that goes across the chest (or just over the shoulder). I got mine at bestbuy but they don't seem to carry it anymore.
as for the edge pro, in the end they did not provide a bundle package. I think the controller dock is probably worth the money in all honesty, its built in a very high quality fashion. As I said in my initial impressions playing games for only 30 minutes or so, the sensitivity on the analog sticks must be turned down and b/c the controls are tilted in a naturally up position just a little bit, i keep overcompensating and inadvertantly pressing down on the stock thus making my FPS character look up even when i don't want to. I really think the controller just has a little learning curve to it is all, looking forward to more time with it.
I'm not quite as sold on a 99 dollar dock. I also would have preferred they just did an hdmi out cable like the ipad or something as well, for those who want to do video on the go but don't need all the extra usb pors..... I'd even pay 50 bucks for it or so, it would just be easir to take with me in my pocket or something than an entire dock that i will likely leave plugged into my tv. of course i ordered the hdmi dock but it has been delayed which is a bummer. -
Backpack for 17" MacBook Pro by Incase
I'm not sure if this is the same product, it has one strap in a couple of the images, two straps on the others. i didn't pay $99 for mine either. also don't believe mine has a front zipper. Its in my office at church this moment, i'll have to look and see if i can get a sku off of it somewhere. -
I recently bought this backpack loads of room should easily fit the blade with its sleeve, i travel a lot so it maybe a bit big for general use but it conforms with all airline hand luggage rules...
