Hi, have you been able to post the ICM file so that some of the rest of us can give it a try/comparison to the default/stock setup.

I just use the stealth messenger bag from the Razer store for my Blade. After using it though I highly suggest you get either a nice backpack with lots of room, or a slightly larger messenge bag. I love the thing to death, but it's not as easy to slide the laptop in and out as I'd like and the padding strip on it, the stiching started to fray like 2 weeks into use, someone else had theres break completely and drop their laptop on the ground, so there seems to be a quality control problem with it. It also needs another half inch in width to make it perfect, sometimes the little metal clasps that connect the strap to the bag get in the way of the laptop sliding in and you have to move them to make it fit, if it was just a little wider that step wouldn't be required and I wouldn't get frustrated trying to hold the laptop and move them at the same time. It's a light laptop, but when you're trying to 1 hand it into a bag and holding it on a side it's not THAT light lol
If you just HAVE to have a Razer bag though, it's still a "good" bag, just not great. Certainly don't regret buying it myself though!
I would say get the sleeve for you R1 but it doesn't have a handle on it, makes absolutely no sense to me to buy one since a bag will protect is just as much and provide a way to keep your hands free AND a place to put your charger away too... -
Read reviews form the link, and check prices, Asus makes some good ones too. loaded with DD-WRT and your good to go.
I've been building my own PC's since '98, and have been in IT for 10+ years now. Thanks for humbling me Hemotherapy -
Well I don't know if I humbled you or not if anything I am the humbled one here - you have a lot more experience with routers than I do, if Razer support wasn't so awesome I'd say we should just come to you for answers instead on them!

Thanks for the advice guys. I stopped by Fry's and Microcenter on yesterday and neither store had a decent looking bag that would fit the Blade. Also, none of the sleeves fit either. I've been looking at the razer site and it looks like both of the messenger bags are OOS. I may end up just ordering the Razer sleeve unless I can try out a decent bag for it.
Also, I installed the 512Gb ssd last night and everything went smooth. -
Just shop online for a good bag! The Asus targus bag that came with the g73's was nice I wish I still had mine.

I dont know if you guys are aware of this software Open source anti-theft solution for laptops, phones & tablets – Prey but it does give you a decent chance of recovery if the worst happens to your precious and best of all it is free...
-
Sounds hard to believe that a software that does all that is free!

I know i love them linux boys and their open source... Its pretty well reviewed and does what it says on the tin... no brainer really

man crysis 3 looks really, really good on a 10" screen for some reason
especially when it doesn't shut your system down after 2 minutes of gameplay. i will do a few videos this weekend of the edge, playing bioshock infinite, skyrim, tomb raider, crysis 3, simcity, x-com, bf3, nfs most wanted, whatever i can throw on it.

Cool! I'm looking forward to the videos as well as some updated impressions after you've used it for a few days. -
What kind of framerates are you getting?
Also, could you test Dead Island (if you have it) -
On crysis with newest drivers 30+ with occasional high 20s in outdoor levels, tunnels are 40s+
No dead island.... -
Steam library at work woot, except I can't play multiplayer. Why would the IT guys block that from the patients lol (using patient Wifi).
Looks like razer sealed my blade back up with those rubber things that Hemo was talking about.
ps. If anyone wants to send me a pm about how to enable me to connect to multiplayer servers that would be swell. -
Probably just need to get it to open up certain ports or make steam use different ones?

Just to update you guys, I bought this sleeve from Amazon:
Amazon.com: Everki Commute 18.4-Inch Laptop Sleeve with Memory Foam (EKF808S18): Electronics
And it fits the blade perfectly. I'm also able to put the charger, kindle, and ipad mini in the side pocket. It's a 18.4 inch laptop sleeve with handle but the Blade fits in it with no problems! -
Hello everyone, I'm going to buy my Razer Blade from XoticPc soon. However they do not carry the windows 7 version anymore and only sell the windows 8. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me their experiences with Windows 8 on the Razer Blade or just in general. There is also an option to change to Windows 7 which adds an extra $100 to the purchase however i'm not sure if it's worth the extra money as I'm already spending $2600~.
Any help is appreciated thanks
.
-
I wouldn't spend the extra money on Windows 7. Windows 8 works great on my laptop. If you find the interface strange, you can use a program like Start8 to either completely change the interface to the old style Windows start bar, or it can help you get used to how Windows 8 works. Personally, I found Windows 8 a little strange to get used to, but after a while I feel that the interface works fine. So, I think that spending the extra money on the OS would be a waste.
-
Thanks for the respone Pyro! After seeing programs like Start8 and Decor8 i'm pretty much sold on Windows 8 unless anyone can change my mind.
-
yeah i would stick with 7 for now anyway. i'll be honest, 8 on my blade r2 is sort of annoying as when i'm playing games with my trackpad (sim city) the game frequently exits and enters into some other screen if i slide my trackpad too far to the left or something. haven't been able to disable the right gesture controls to disable that. enjoying 8 on the edge pro though, touch screen makes a little more sense there.
-
You bros said you use alcohol to clean your blades?
-
I wouldn't go with 8 yet. There are some compatibility issues with it with certain games. It's not as "refined" as 7 is. I do like 8, but I had to downgrade to 7 just to be able to play Black Ops 2 - Also, the wireless drivers that come with the Blade are only good on Win 7, you'll have to go to intel directly to get some newer drivers to make them work on windows 8.
8 Is strange, and there are tools to make it more windows 7-esque. AND it does boot faster which is cool at first, the metro tiles are fun as well. The only problem is it's just not mainstream enough for developers to provide complete compatibility with it yet.
I just wouldn't. There's hardly any difference besides metro tiles and faster boot times AND a lot of "simple" things in 7 being different and not as simple anymore. Not to mention things not working very well on it.
Windows 8 is more of a mobile OS so it's slightly annoying sometimes, very true. If you don't mind having to use different drivers, "re-learning" how to use it, and using mods to make it more friendly and customizable, then go for it. Hopefully you don't play the handful of games that have issues with it
Yes. I apply rubbing alcohol on the trackpad to clean it before I applied my screen protector. For the finger grease I just use a cloth and wipe it down, if that doesn't work I add some sun glass cleaner/windex to the mix. Spray the cloth, and wipe away all the stuff
- That also works very well to clean the outside!
-
I think I backed the wrong horse with my Razer Edge preorder... Amazon estimates a ship date of the 9th or 10th...and BestBuy.com (the guys I went with) are saying it could be as late as the 15th...
Got my fingers crossed that maybe it ships next week... -
Thanks for the input Hemo and John. I think I'll stick with Windows 8 for now and hope that it gets better eventually. Just in case though if i find it completely annoying, how hard is it to change to windows 7 by myself?
-
Its really easy all you have to do is contact razer and just get a recovery USB stick. Then use it

Do they give those away for free or is there a charge? -
I and another member got one for free.

Is the recovery stick just USB install media for Windows, or is it a system restore that sets the laptop back to from the factory settings, including drivers?
-
Does anyone know what size the power connector is on the Blade or (better yet) what OEM laptop models share the same power connector?
I'd like to get some spare chargers to keep around the house but don't need to fork out the extra premium the Razer supply. I'm hoping that I can get cheaper 120W supplies that fit the connector.
(sorry if this has been asked before....I tried a google site search in a few different ways and didn't see any relevant results). -
Restore media, brings it back to scratch!
You won't find one unless you order it from best buy online and deliver it to a store, new egg has one as well I found. But there all around the same price you pay from razer anyway, 100 bucks is a good price for how great it is. Saving 20 bucks to get a bigger power brick that is 3 prong and not 2 prong, weighs more, and doesn't have the iconic Razer symbol on it just doesn't seem worth it. And TECHNICALLY the Razer one isn't 100 bucks because its 100 including shipping!

well i just bit the bullet and ordered the 480gb atlas. ill let you all know how the upgrade goes. I am planning on doing two upgrades at once, (16gb ram, and the msata)
for what its worth (and i apologize if this is against forum rules, but i picked the Atlas 480gb up for $420 through an online joint called aaawave.com. its listed as a deal of the day, and as a sale price, so im not sure if the thing ends today or what. but it was free shipping and about 80 bux cheaper than everywhere else i looked. not to mention that newegg is oos.
on a side note, i may take the opportunity to swap out my current ssd as well...way back when i first got the r2, i popped in an samsung 830 512gb, but needed it for a different project (rebuilding my desktop raid) so i popped in a brand new samsung 840 500gb instead. however, i might switch back now that i got a replacement 830 from samsung.
anyone off hand know the performance difference between the two? i know its not too much but its my understanding that the 840 non pro is slower than an 830. plus id be able to reclaim a few extra gb between the formatted 500gb and 512gb
*and no, i dont work for or have any affiliation with the store above, in fact other than finding them via google shopping, id never heard of them before. -
Sounds good -- No worries about the website. If there is a rule on this forum about it we haven't been following it ITT, so don't bother
-
Imma fly all yall to my house so we can have a razer blade party.
-
lol...where do you live sdot??

Pennsylvania

Tempting offer, $1200 buy it now...
Does not mention any warranty, but seems like a reputable seller. Torn...as that's a really sweet price...How's the keyboard on this thing?
RZ09 00830500 R3U1 Razer Blade Laptop Win 8 17 3 inch Brand New Black | eBay -
Cool. Seems like the Atlas 480GB is a dual PCB affair. Will be good to know if it fits. The issue with the 840 non-pro is that it's using triple-level (TLC) NAND instead of single (SLC) or two-level (MLC) NAND. It has a shorter life expectancy than the more traditional two-level (MLC) NAND, though for desktop usage it should last for years.
-
The keyboard is fine, and for I am reading trying to find out why its so cheap. 1200 for an R2...thats a steal.
btw It will still be in warranty if he hasn't opened it because it comes with a 1 year warranty and that series of blade wasn't made more than 1 year ago. Says new so this doesn't even matter. -
Me too....seems like it must have a catch. Well, it's down now
So sad...
-
aha! well there is something I didnt notice before. I am also curious if it fits. it doesnt seem like its too much thicker, a review on thessdreview.com says 2mm thicker than a typical msata ssd, so hopefully thats thin enough for the blade -
With it being removed now I'm sure what happened was the seller had no idea what a good price for a used r2 is since no one is selling used ones. Found out what it costs and took the listing down. Watch eBay for a bit for a relisting!
On a car forum I frequent a dude was selling his bimmer on eBay and one of our members bid on it, there was no reserve and the guy won the bid with a price way under what the car is worth, a steal! And the seller refused to sell and relisted the car again with a reserve...I hate buying and selling things on eBay, so much stupid stuff goes on. Including us trolling the seller for weeks with fake bids to sky rocket the price and keep backing out of the buy.

Im changing this so i can move my question to the edge pro thread instead and cant find a delete post option.
-
My edge pro replacement has not overheated at all, even after running crysis 3 for several hours. I just got that unlucky lemon... I also did own a surface pro for 2 weeks so I can compare the two for you....
The surface pro has three great things going for it: cover keyboard which works great (type keys), 1080p beautiful display, and wacom stylus. I could actually use my surface pro for church work, including word and PowerPoint work. Also enjoyed drawing with the stylus. The big letdown with the surface is GAMING. The surface is not built for gaming at all. Also, was disappointed to see the back get scuffed way too easily. Again if you want a purely portable workhorse the surface pro would be a good choice.
The edge pro is thicker but not too thick to hold comfortably. Its a tad heavier as well, but its weight is distributed very evenly it doesn't feel any heavier to me. I can't say how effective the edge is for office use without the keyboard attachment. I also don't have the HDMI dock which I REALLY WANT NOW AMAZON. I plan on using it in desktop mode at some point, but for now just keeping it connected to the controller dock. I play in my recliner, in bed, made my wife drive on vacation so i could play in the car, wherever, it really is a joy to play on this thing. So for me, since I already have a laptop and even an iPad with keyboard cover, didn't need the surface.
-
cool thats good to know. i want a purely portable workhorse that i can game on when im not working. as it stands now, when i go into the DC, i either bring my ipad, and do most of the stuff i can do, till i need either Java or ethernet, then i have to run back upstairs through all the security doors, grab my work lappy, go downstairs again and do what needs to be done. or just haul my work lappy around with me which is not ideal as its bulky and heavy for a 15" the surface pro was my choice as its running a full version of win8 and i think i could not only use usb to eth, but also usb to serial as well (i can run usb to serial on my lappy which is win8, so i imagine it would work) but with the addition of gaming for only a few hundred more, i think i would rather get the edge pro. i dont really need a keyboard as when im in the DC most of the info im entering is via pulldown menus other than console commands which i could technically do from onscreen keyboard.
sorry, i removed the post and moved it to the edge thread but thanks for the reply here anyway!
plus, the edge pro would be a good way to shut my coworkers up about how their stupid android tablets are far superior to my ipad because they can do whatever ridiculousness they can do with theirs that the ipad cant. which i dont believe is anything, because i dont think theres eth adaptors to android tablets, and i dont think they can access the kvm switches with java either. -
Well, my blade is now charging while still off. Don't know what made that start working because it wasn't before but is now! Yay!

I travel a ton for work and needed a decent gaming laptop in order to keep my sanity intact. I definitely made the right choice with this thing. This laptop is just so excellent.
For anyone that is still looking for a bag, I bought this one and the blade fits in the laptop sleeve like it was made for it. The laptop sleeve also folds flat for TSA compliance. So if you travel a lot like I do, It's pretty ideal. -
nice bag, enjoy your blade. It has been for me the most ding-proof, scratch-proof laptop i've ever owned. Even moreso that my macbook airs or pros, where the aluminum can get some unsightly scuffs. my only gripe is the keyboard keys do wear down via oil accumulation.
