True and good points. A lot of people are here as well because we're wanting to stay up to date on the changes, if any, that Razer does to improve the RBP, because it has a lot of potential. It doesn't matter what system one owns, there will always be dirt thrown at it, but who cares right?
My main gaming rig is an AW and there's dirt on that too...as there is with MSI's...Clevo's...they have their faults so it's not like the selected few are dogging on Razer any more than they would on each and every other brands for their short comings.
Instead of looking at it in the light of it being bashful (fine line I know and it depends on the context of how it is being portrayed) try to see that repetition of the things we don't like being voiced just may be the only push we as consumers have for changes to be made on the ODM's end. If none of us speak up over the major flaws, then we as the consumer lose our right to complain. Ex. 6700HQ in a $4000 machine? Really Razer? - See the point? Most of us do not choose to just take what we're given and remain silent.
A lot of us want to like it, because it has huge potential ... so we have to keep letting it be known of the things that we want or else they (Razer and alike) will be laughing all the way to the bank and just might grab a a steak and lobster dinner with the finest wine, on our (consumers) tab... No thanks.
-
I agree with the whole "whine to be listened" thing too, I've made such a mess of my 4 RMA on my RB 2015 that I've been contacted by Razer managers three times on three different places (Reddit, Insiders, Twitter) and the same thing's been done by many other users, ending up with CS and QC being one of the things Razer is working on as of now.
My point is clearly not about avoiding making noise or criticizing, my point is only about not ruining people threads as there's plenty of space for feedbacks while this thread should be more about constructive discussions (i.e. Overclock, undervolt, ACs, softwares and so on) and it's a shame that people keep forcing people out of here although they are the only system owners around and came here for solid discussions.
This way this subforum will be empty or rather full of haters, losing its purpose.Last edited: Feb 26, 2017Blazertrek50, hmscott and iunlock like this. -
Well said. A RBP revision would be nice in 2017...even if they offer a variant with a 7820HK + GTX 1080, I think that would capture the attention of a whole segment that has turn away from the current RBP due to the 6700HQ. <- That really is a slap in the face for a machine of this stature. Even a 7820HK + 1070 with a lower price would be more appealing. - Razer, wake up....a lot of people are wanting this to work out, but that depends on your willingness to provide...

The dudes a rock star, really like his style of reviews. Fits the bill of mainstream bubble gum reviewers (to entice the masses), but also has enough data in there that folks like us really care about all the while keeping things short and straight to the point. Awesome delivery.

Have you not watched Linus's review -
I have and it wasnt really good. Usually HardwareCannucks does good laptop reviews on youtube but he doesnt receive the latest models often.
Linus did add comparison benchmarks (with older laptops though), but not compared to others 1080 laptops or at least 1070 laptops. -

not really. Actually I am simplifying this down to the name of the thread: "Owner's Lounge", not prospective owner's lounge or what do you think of the new RBP, see my point, it is quite simple. This is not the thread to be talking people out of purchasing something that according to the guidelines of said thread, they already own . -
Actually, yes really. Perhaps you should read the earlier posts, because you're missing the point here.
Also, what don't you understand about the words, "specific needs?" If one is purchasing a laptop for pure gaming and needing every ounce they can get in performance in respect to the ratio of the cost, the RBP is not it as it is way over priced for the money.
Now if you're going to try and deny that, then save yourself the trouble and just don't reply.

Looking to upgrade one of the drives to a TB, what NVMe would be best outside of the samsung pro series?
-
What's the usual possibility for overclocking 1070? I'm currently getting +150 on core and memory and its stable, but what's the general limit?
-
Not everyone has already decided what to purchase. They seek information in such threads. Balanced information is important.

Not from this thread titled OWNERS LOUNGE! I suppose you would go to a thread titled selling a Razer Blade Pro to ask questions about why he purchased it? Yes I understand you could do just that but then you would be missing the point and wasting the people's time who created the thread and were interested in buying the RBP. So either we acknowledge and respect the titles of the thread, that is the intent of the thread's creator or we just don't give a rip and make it all about whatever the poster wants to yammer on about. This is what the detractors of the RBP have done in this thread. I will now stop wasting my time on them and only respond to those owners who have questions or comments or perhaps those who are interested in hearing owners experiences with this fabulous computer.Last edited: Feb 26, 2017 -
That will depend a lot on the temperatures for both the 1080 and the 1070, end of the day if the temps are not low enough to sustain the over clocks, then it will be pointless.
But from what i have seen is about +150 to +200 on the core.bsch3r, vorob, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
That's a tough one, because Samsung 1TB 960 Pro or 960 Evo is the way to go.
How come not the 1TB 960 Evo for $480USD? That's an amazing price and even the Evo like will walk circles around other brands MLC.
There's also the PM961 or SM961 (commercial grades) which are excellent and affordable.
PM me.. I have some ideas...
Here's some screenies:

Based on those numbers the Samsung 960 EVO Series looks like a good option at $500 for 1tb. Thanksiunlock likes this.

Absolutely. $480 to be exact.
Amazing isn't it for a super star 1TB?

I am curious if this option to disable ASPM is available in the RBP Bios....so I am reposting.
"On reddit, Volicarebear suggested to disable ASPM in Bios to get better performance out of the GTX1060, and amazingly enough my firestrike score went up from 9270 to 9560 with no OC. I have no idea what ASPM does, but it definitely made a big difference in the firestrike score.
After a OC +150/200 I got 10122. Graphics Score 12232. Before I the maximum I got was 9861 overall.

I don't see any option for Aspm in the RBP bios. Here is a video comparison of graphics performance of the RBP gtx1080 vs a Desktop gtx1080, firestrike graphics score at stock is over 20k.Vistar Shook likes this.

Thanks for checking shoespc. Apparently the RB 14 Kabylake doesn´t have that option in Bios either. Eitherway, I am just happy I am getting better performance out of my GTX1060 with Skylake without any overclocking and with no apparent effect on temps or battery life.

No problem, always glad to help. I read that post yesterday too and intended to check.
Same here, glad your blade is working well. I find the RBP to be a beast for the size of the chasis and as you can see in the video the RBP 1080 graphics are about 88% that of a desktop 1080 which backs up the performance I am seeing in real world usage.Vistar Shook likes this. -

The RBP is out of my league in terms of price and doesn´t fit my needs in terms of size and battery life. Sure looks nice though, would love to see one live one day...

Update on brightness behavior:
378.78 - broken after reboot after install. brightness adjustments controls are still settable, but have no effect on display. display is at minimum brightness. tried disabling and enabling and disabling again all special settings in advanced power settings under display but still no joy. can't find any fixes for this on google either
376.33 - works, but need to hack driver to install
376.20 - works - latest on razer's support siteshoespc likes this. -
I have found a quirky workaround. After reboot, it is completely dimmed. However, after going into and out of sleep, I am at max brightness. Still can't control it with normal controls though.

OK!
Updated Nvidia drivers that actually work flawlessly with this damn machine... When???
Stuck with 376.20 from razer support... And that cant play battlefield 1 anymore !
As anyone figured out how to make the latest one 378.78, be able to adjust the brightness of the screen?? It also causes some severe flickering in most games, but the most annoying is the brightness bug.
Anyone?? -
The brightness issue doesnt seem to be limited to only the RBP, im having the same problem with the 120Hz Panel in my P870DM-G. Weirdly enough it works fine on my P870-DM3, which is i think still on the 376.XX chain.Last edited: Mar 16, 2017clayton006 and batshit like this.

I don´t have the RBP, so I can´t test this out...but I read in the insider forum, that if you install the new driver without doing a clean install, then the brightness works.
"Hey there. I had the same problem but I found that if you install (not a clean install) any NVidia driver over your already working driver(any will do I have found). Then the brightness functions correctly."

I am loving it and have not had any of the brightness or game playing issues that others have had. Though I have not played BF1 and probably won't. What drivers did you use "Batshit"? Oh and "Shoespc" I ordered the additional battery as soon as I got the email about them being available. I want to leave one at my office

Found a workaround for anyone having the brightness issue.
Install 376.20 from razer support website, brightness should work.
Then install latest from NVidia WITHOUT checking the clean install option.

Laptop vs. Desktop: RENDERING SHOWDOWN!!

Conducting a simple 4K encoding race to see if the Razer Blade Pro can keep up with a similarly spec'd desktop.

What's up with the processing power on 6700q in Razer? There is a lot less difference than 54% between both processors running stock clock speed. And I must laugh when he said it takes longer time for packing up or down the desktop vs. the Razer for on the go. You can still buy a laptop with LGA and no need for desktops if you want more powa
And I haven't talked about overclocking of the LGA. You can make the difference even more appealing.

But will Razer release a new vBIOS who finally stop gimping down the power from 1080 graphics?
And of course... They need to either create a new slim 330w psu who fits the thin laptop design or use the same big 330w all other ODM's using from Delta.
And what will happen with the prices? Will Razer offer both Kaby models? 7700hq and 7820hk? Nothing is yet put in stone. If so... Expect +$4500 usd for the models with 7820hk.oveco, Vistar Shook, don_svetlio and 1 other person like this. -
Vistar Shook Notebook Deity
Most likely, since it will still use the 250w psu, the 1080 will continue to underperform like before, similiar to an overclocked 1070 or an 1070 Ti if it existed. They will only offer the i7-7820HK, not the 7700, however I wonder how well it will handle thermals when it is overclocked at 4.3GHz. The SSDs are still in Raid, so hopefully they have fixed the issues with the failures due to heat.
Because of the cpu upgrade it is likely it will cost more, plus the marketing of the first laptop ever to be THX certified.....wait, doesn´t Razer own THX? -
This smells battery boost long way. Prepare to purchase new battery long time before you have to. OC'd i7 if it can manage 4.3GHz in this chassis + the 1080 although this card has crippled performance will push the slim 250w psu right on the edge 24/7/365. Battery boost will also put pressure on the internal wiring and components. Which in turn will provide more failures due to heats and thus more RMA. See Alienware and *WARNING*!!
I'm sure Razers software engineers will do all they can to put in all sorts of throttling algorithms. Both for the CPU and GPU. This seems to be a very very bad idea.
