Don't get me wrong I was going to keep the i7 I loved it but found an i5 for $800 shipped so it was $500 savings + the ram was already upgraded and I had a 256gb to install on it already so it was too stupid to keep the i7 in my case I don't think you will have any problems running battlefield 4 at medium settings if not you can overclock a little

I forgot the battery life on haswell yep that will be the difference if you can use the machine more time unplugged

Can anyone speculate whether removing the back for cooling will work while using the keyboard dock?

Don't see why not the question is you want the internal components exposed while using the tablet like that?

it may be more than 10C lower since inside the gamepad is 10C

Maybe is what you looking for then :D I expect the Edge R2 to be the same casing, screen, dock, gamepad just with upgraded internals so yes you can ;)

I'm thinking the same thing. The Keyboard dock isn't even out yet so it would make sense to make it be compatible with both the r1 and r2.

Yes it's crazy. I'm glad I ordered when I did because it's very hard to find a i7 right now.

Don't quote me on that though...

From looking at the pictures on their site, it looks like there are 2 USB ports (one on each side). I think the CEO said that the current model is a prototype so the final design may be different.

Why would they refresh the Razer Edge the same year it came out? It probably hasn't even been 6 months.

If they were gonna refresh it, it'd be 2014 at the earliest.

    That's my 2 cents.

If the edge is doing a refresh it will only be 5-10% faster and maybe it will finally have sd slot with 2 usb slots but that would only drain more battery life. I'm good with my edge right now, and later going to upgrade ssd and ram.

OK, I just got my Edge Pro 128 in the mail. There was a huge problem with it though; because it was an amazon warehouse deal (return) I found that whoever owned it before me had their data still on here (woah, HUGE no-no Amazon) So I figured I'd do a fresh install of Win 8 Pro since I had an extra key for it. I nuked all partitions and did a fresh install... oops.
Now my touchscreen isn't calibrating, my screen is upside down and I can't find proper drivers for this thing, let alone a recovery tool.
So, does anyone have a backup of the drivers, or a recovery image they can post somewhere? I'm kinda boned and waiting on Razer support for the time being...

You can contact Razer and they will send you a thumb drive that has all the drivers on it. I never asked for one but I know a few other users here have received one.

Yeah, I just got off the phone with Razer support. They are sending me out a thumbdrive, which is awesome. Unfortunately I leave town tomorrow so I'm going to have to make do without a tablet for the trip. It'll be a week before I can see this thing up and running properly. Miffed that for 1300 they couldn't provide their customers with a recovery drive/cd/whatever.

Try a different brand usb pen drive, maybe one without led , I know my edge is picky on what it wants to read and check the electric or inverter settings that's if u need it. If it's off by a little that also could be the problem not enough juice to power the usb. But 1st get a couple of pen drives and see if they are compatible. Good luck

Razer has nickel and dimed us with all the Edge accessories but this is just ridiculous. I ordered an extra power adapter from their website and I literally received only the power adapter. I guess I was wrong to assume that it would include the AC cord even though every other laptop/tablet charger sold comes with a power cord. Whats worse is that they don't even have the power cord for sale on their website.

just plug a mouse connect to internet and let windows do the rest it will sort everything out i have done this twice now and it all worked, so as usual i solved my problem and you yours hope that helps :) 17G install is insane on my tiny 64G drive.

and if you want the drivers razer offer see my previous post at the top of page.

hole process is easiest i ever had in the end but then i installed windows 3.11 off 52 floppies the first time ;)

i think razer can stick there recovery key up the usb socket. next project glueing trackballmouse to xbox controllrt sod razers peripherals ;)

oh and to guy above the ac adapter without a lead is close to illegal in uk as all electrical devices must have a plug fitted when sold.

Luckily, I had a extra in my cord box so I won't have to buy one. I'm still going to call Razer and complain.

I'm in the U.S. and I'm guessing that they can get away with selling it like that here.

In regards to the drivers, I found that even with a fresh install of windows 8 the touchscreen drivers were backwards/upside down even with windows updates. The drivers offered on their website are pretty slim and mostly have to do with the graphics drivers and the intel wireless drivers. The problem I think lies with the generic drivers windows uses for both the screen and the touch driver. If they released both of these (with possible firmware updates) I think the problem would be solved. As it is, I'm waiting to pick up my recovery usb drive from fed ex later today. I may image it and post it online for people to download and burn onto disk/put on their on thumbdrives. I'm also going to try and get a driver backup of the drivers that come with the pre-installed O.S. so anyone who wants to do a fresh O.S. install can give it a shot with those drivers.

First time posting on here, but i've been following this for a while. I've reloaded windows a few times on the Razer Edge. I downloaded a Win 8 retail version iso. I used a windows 7 usb tool to convert the iso to a usb thumbdrive installable which comes standard with windows 7. I used the key on the back of the razer during the install so you might want to write it down. Install as you normally would and yes, the screen will be all sorts of upside down reverse input which is not the easiest to work around. You can go to the Razer website and install all the drivers by clicking on the download section pertaining to the Razer Edge. Once this is done the screen will fix itself. This is a great bypass to waiting on Razer to send the usb thumbdrive. Hope this helps.

Try rolling back the driver. You can do that by pressing windows + x or going to my computer and rightcliking -> properties -> device manager. Go to display adapters and right-click the intel graphics and choose properties. Under the driver tab there's a "roll back driver" option that will undo the latest update.

I'm working on getting a complete driver backup from the recovery image.

My Edge Pro is bricked because I was stupid enough to load Windows 8.1 on it. It installed fine on my Surface Pro so I assumed I could load it on the Edge. I called Razer and they said the Edge is not compatible with the 8.1 preview so do not install it unless you want to brick your device.

That is very strange it would brick the actual hardware but i guess after seeing a Windows update make the machine not boot for 10 minutes it is almost crazy how much control Windows has over the actual hardware.

Also why dont they put out a warning to anyone who is on the registered owners list. Obviously they will not be able to tell every owner but if they were proactive about it they could potentially warn others from bricking it.

Sorry to hear that truth . I sold my edge because of after 4 defective controllers i was so frustrated i couldnt take it anymore. I love and miss the Edge and still think its one of the best ideas out there for PC gaming in my eyes but it brought me alot of grief especially the controller aspect.

Yea as soon as I mentioned Windows 8.1, the guy knew exactly what I was calling about. It would be nice if they sent out a mass email or something to tell everyone not to try to update. Either that or they should start including the Razer recovery drive with all brand new units. Now I have to wait for them to send me the drive just so I can restore my Edge.

I got lucky and every single accessory for my Edge works fine. I can't see myself parting with it but I can understand how you could get frustrated with getting so many broken controllers. Now I'm just waiting on the keyboard dock and I hope it's less than $200.

I think that Keyboard dock will be no less then 300 seeing as its actually more complicated then the controller is with the USB ports/backlit keyboard etc.

Ill bet $299 and not a penny less. Should it be cheaper ? yeah but we know how that works. I saw how they did not even give you cord for the the spare PSU . Thats about $1 worth of material to include the cord.

anyone try overclocking the gpu on the dock while in 1080 or 768? I also returned mine due to previous no clues on the accessories and not being able to find a damn case. but i do miss it and im thinking of buying it again but prob the 999 model since the ssd is upgrade able and the extra 1 gig gpu really didn't have much gaming improvements

I guess I'm the only person enjoying the Razer Edge still... Mine is still kicking strong. Picked up a dock and other than some Windows 8 quirks I haven't had any temperature issues or bugs... Just awesome performance and visuals.

Lol who am I kidding? I wouldn't be surprised if they charged $399 for it. Razer is very lucky that they make cool products because they sure have apple like prices.

Definitely go for the 64gb and upgrade. Another option is to purchase the 256gb from Amazon where it is only $1351 right now.

I still enjoyed mine up until it broke. Hopefully I get the thumb drive within the next week.
