there is really no need for more improvement removing the back cover solved all the cooling issues and make it lighter at the same time I thought about getting a fan from the retina MBP since they are so thin and put it in the battery compartment but that is not going to help at all and is just going to make it heavier next step like Quad said is removing the controller cover the inside panel of the controller to make the machine even lighter I hope Razer is taking notes LOL

yeah like removing the battery LOL next time you know the Edge weights like a 360 controller :D

I have had that issue a few times and it is totally random what will kick it back into a working state. Sometimes just plugging in the power adapter will get it too boot and other times just removing the controller works as well.

Just keep trying different things or let it rest and it should fire back up. Since Razer refuses to publicly release an BIOS updates it is something we have to live with even if it is fixable to begin with.

That has happened to me a few times. I called Razer and they said to just let it sit there for 10-20 minutes and it will correct itself. The guy told me it had something to do with a Windows update not be compatible with the Edge.

You know i thought it could have been a Windows update because when i had done a fresh install with windows 8 it was booting just fine then i did one update and it started happening.

Since i have Windows 7 though it has not happened since but it is interesting it's Windows 8 because it seems to stop before it looks like it has loaded any part of the OS at all so it must be something right at the boot level stopping it .

They should tell people which update to remove so people do not have this issue and most updates are removable.

Hi guys, does everyone with gamepad leave it in all times or detached ? Is it safe to leave the edge in the gamepad when not in use? Or would it it just drain the battery. And is everyone having the same problem with the left top button being stuck? Like when being pushed down and stuck for a second.

it will use a little more battery because the gamepad lights are on but I don't think is too much to drain the battery more like 20 min less battery life

ask Quad how he fix He's gamepad this things are being assembled so quick and with horrible quality control but at least is fixable.

I see, I could see little ridges on the top left button not smooth like the right top button. Maybe take a thin file to it? And my left analog, top right direction is not real responsive, man I wish best buy had these so I could return it, I hate mailing it back.

Maybe an edge mini, a thinner 8 inch haswell tablet and no gfx card with the controller dock might be a wonderful thing. Pack it with the controller included for a cool $999. Are you reading this suggestion Razer?

Trying to go to a bigger disk in my razer edge:

    Source: Toshiba mSata 128GB
    Target: Mushkin mSata 480GB

How do I backup UEFI BIOS on a GPT disk?

I grabbed the Acronis TrueImage trial. It looks like it doesn't support this.

I took the mSata out of the Edge and stuck it in my m18x. I put Acronis in Disk mode (Full Backup and sector by sector).

When I put the new HD in the Edge then boot, it get stuck on a screen "Attempting repairs"

Someone on an Acronis forum suggested to use Easus ( New PC UEFI & GPT Boot Media Not Working | Knowledge Base)

When I tried that process (using the EASUS), edge got stuck on the "Recovery" screen:
    Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaied.
A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.
    Error Code: 0xc0000225
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation
media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

    Press Enter to try again.
    Press F8 for Startup settings.
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware settings.

Enter and F8 went back to the same screen.
Esc got me into the BIOS, where I tried all three options: disabling secure boot, custom signatures and reset to default and booting for each one.

Is there anything special I need to do for UEFI BIOS?

Does Razer have something you can put on USB to setup the partitions?

Is there any software that will just "ghost" the disk, like they used to, without having to play around with all this stuff?

Is there some backup way where I need to go from GPT to MBR?

Finally found a software that just "works". ( Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.)

    Here's how I did it.

    (1) Put original 128GB from my Edge into my m18x's mSata slot.
    (2) Add a an extra 2.5 blank HD (128GB or bigger) in one of my m18x's extra HD slots.
    (3) Click the copy disk wizard and choose source and detination appropriately
    (4) Select (2) copy partitions without resize. (You can do that later with the built-in Disk Management Storage in win 8)
    (5) Swap out mSata with new 480GB one.
    (6) Repeat (3) reversing source and target.

Another great thing to have if you are swapping drives and do not have another computer with an Msata port. Bought it from this company, arrived in a few days and worked flawlessly. Plugged it into my external USB to sata adapter so i did not even have to open up my computer to access a Sata port.

You can definitely get that model and upgrade later if you wanted since it is pretty easy to upgrade the Edge. Only question you need to ask yourself is i5 vs i7.

From what I understand, 1gb of vram is more than enough when gaming at 1366. You really only need more vram once you start using higher resolutions. Also, most games are limited by the GPU so you may not notice too much of a difference in gaming whether you are using the i5 or the i7. The real question is if you are comfortable changing out the SSD yourself. 64gb is barely enough room for 2 games so you would have to invest in a much larger SSD right away. I wouldn't worry too much about the ram since 4gb of ram is still adequate for gaming.

You really don't have too much of a choice if you are looking to purchase one right away. The 128gb is still backordered on amazon for up to 3 months and the 256gb has disappeared from Amazon and BestBuy. I saw a 256gb on ebay yesterday and it sold for $2600!

Hey guys, I got the razer edge pro 256gb model with the gamepad. Absolutely love it, a very unique experience. But recently I started having this issue, with the battery charged, high performance power plan and while playing a game, the edge just shuts off. Takes about 5 mins again for it to restart. Any ideas as to why?

it could be running too hot try to run a program to monitor temps in background msi Afterburner for GPU HWinfo64 for CPU with both programs combined you can also set on screen monitoring for both CPU-GPU

in msi Afterburner go to Settings/Monitoring Highlight GPU temperature and check the box Show on-screen Display"

in HWinfo64 run sensors only click configure box at the bottom on the new window look for Core Max" and highlight that then on the middle of the window
there is Riva Tuner OSD settings check the 2 boxes show" and Label"

Start a game and you will be able to monitor the temps all the time ;)

You don't even want to run games on battery unless they are flash based games because the video card throttles and you don't get the same performance
and high performance setting on battery" ? I don't know what to say about that one even if you select high performance there is still power plans for battery mode
that won't matter if you set it on super extra high performance they still kick on battery

there is also Nvidia powermizer that will kick on battery and hurt performance so yeah it sucks because we all want the real mobile experience but is just not ready yet
maybe in the next few years we will see computers that run games on battery for 5-7 hours but until that happens we are tether to the wall :D

So, I just bought a Razer Edge yesterday from Best Buy, but I've been having some problems with the screen, so I'm going to return it and get a different one. Razer just posted this image, which makes me concerned.

It could possibly be an updated Razer Edge (or something else). Should I return the tablet and wait until then before I purchase the tablet again?

What problems are you having with the screen? Revolution could be the Switchblade because on the Razer site, the Switchblade page does say "A Revolution in PC Gaming."

Also just wanted to let others know Razer has the docking station in stock. Just placed an order for one!

When I touch on the screen, the LCD panel ripples in a certain spot.

    Edit:

Also, Min-Liang Tan posted this about that picture I posted

"After winning the Best of CES with the Razer Edge in January, and with the announcement of the world's thinnest gaming laptop earlier this month - that would be enough revolutionizing in the world of tech for most companies.

But we're not like most companies :) We're not done for the year - one of the biggest announcements we have planned is for 25 June 2013 - watch for it!"

Sounds like the blade is defective. Did you get the 64gb model? Also, judging by that quote, it would seem to me that they are coming out with something completely different. If it was an update to the Edge, I would imagine it would have the same casing and an updated CPU/GPU.

Has anyone run into wifi issues? I didn't have that problem before maybe it's the gamepad? I can't connect and it's saying limited access. Any ideas?

Okay this is what i did so far, I downloaded the intel wifi driver from the razer website and click repair, no luck still limited access , I see the wifi signal going up but the yellow triangle with ! , then I removed the driver and reinstall them still no luck, is there anything I can do? Is my wifi broken? I check everything all my other devices have wifi.

no unless you willing to sacrifice a power supply by cutting the cable and soldering a battery

The wi-fi card on the Edge is crap both drivers for bluetooth and wifi cause high dpc latency at least that's what I experience with the original card but that seems to affect video streaming only
the reception is bad because if I go 2 rooms away from the router the signal is too low and the wifi start to fail

I installed this card and let windows install the generic wifi driver and is much better but the low reception still there sadly. Amazon.com: Intel Network 6235AN.HMWWB Centrino WiFi Card Advanced-N 6235 Dual Band Bluetooth Retail: Computers & Accessories

I am not having any wireless issues at all. Was able to download a 25 gig Steam game in under 10 minutes and multiplayer gaming works for every game I've tested. I've never been disconnected, even after extended play sessions. I've tested the wifi card with various networks, even the public ones at Starbucks and Panera... No issues whatsoever.

Check your router settings. Also there are other factors that can impact wifi performance... Such as distance, how many other networks are broadcasted on your wifi channel (known as wifi 'crowding') and such.

You also may have a dud card. It happens... Call Razer and get them to replace it under warranty.

Funny, do you have an apple router?

We can get to the bottom of this problem because is not just a single Edge having problems with wi-fi this is the card on the edge http://www.intel.com/content/dam/ww...uct-briefs/centrino-wireless-n-2230-brief.pdf is a single band 2.4ghz 300Mbps while that's enough for browsing the web and watching videos downloading games but a lot of people have upgraded routers mine is a time capsule 450Mbps dual band

thats why I ordered this card a dual band 2.4ghz 5ghz 300Mbps it is better because is faster downloading games streaming but still not working fine when I go a little far from the router
    http://www.intel.com/content/dam/ww...iefs/centrino-advanced-n-wimax-6235-brief.pdf

now apparently people with apple routers have problems with intel cards or the aluminum body of the edge can be blocking the antenna signal ? I don't know if is compatibility Atheros make a wifi bluetooth combo card but is only 150Mbps single band I don't know if is enough Atheros AR5B195 AR3011 WiFi WLAN Bluetooth Combo Half Mini PCI E Card | eBay

As a first step, have you tried changing the RF channel on your wifi router to avoid congestion? InSSIDer is a good, free utility that will help you figure this out.

if they announce a haswell based edge with a 7 series gpu i am seriously going to freak the f^&k out after waiting 18months for project fiona to become the edge i have in my hands today.....

on the other hand i notice no difference gaming on power or battery - but then again i changed my power settings to be running full speed all of the time.

Before you freak out I want to share my experience overclocking and testing both devices and how I went back to the i5 model after all

if they release a haswell and 700 gpu first the CPU won't be much faster maybe 10% second the GPU will be an overclocked 640m GK107 chip

I had the i7 128GB model for almost a month and my friend had the i5 64gb even longer before me we test all the games you can think of for performance and temps well on a game like tomb raider for example at high settings he was getting 65fps on the benchmark and I was getting 70fps I cant remember the exact frames but close to that same with Arkham city a game where you get 70fps the i7 gets 75fps so you talking almost no performance difference there

we test an old game that seems to be affected by CPU that was The saboteur playing that game on max settings because is an old tittle no problem the i7 model gets 10 more frames than the i5 but that was the only game we find this problem also the i5 is getting from 30 to 50fps even on the bussiest parts of the game so that's not like we can't play it and the game is broken to begin with probably a bad port

to not make this short story long I returned the i7 model and bought an i5 I can't be happier the machine runs 5c cooler and with the back cover removed inside the gamepad I am playing saboteur the max temp I saw is 63c and a newer game max temp 69C so I decide to test the overclocking capabilities of the GPU you can overclock the core 150mhz+ and the memory just set 200mhz+ by doing this you get close to a gt650m and OMG the performance difference is crazy bumped the settings on tomb raider to extreme no tess FXAA 16ASF the game is totally playable and looks Amazing the lowest fps i saw was 35 but most the times 50 and more all depends what part of the game you are and for the temps 3C more on the GPU.

Nice to finally see a comparison of the i5 and the i7. I'm sticking with my i7 although if I could do it all over again, I would have saved some cash and went for the i5. The only game I'm worried about is Battlefield 4. I hope it can get at least 40FPS at medium settings on the Edge.

It is still very interesting to this day the only model available is the i5 one. Since there is so little chatter on these boards in general we do not get much speculation but i feel we will be seeing the haswell model fast since those low end i5 and i7s are already available.

Unless Razer stockpiled those older CPUs and GPUs (which would make no sense at all) then yeah i think its coming and why only those small initial runs ever saw the light of day.

Also Razer may be waiting to sell out of all i5 models or close to all before the new one hits. Makes sense to me even if some people are going to be upset about it.

The only real boost will be unplugged web browsing time from haswell like we have seen on the Macbook Airs, they used the same exact size battery and almost doubled the battery life.

Gaming with a dedicated GPU though the unplugged time will probably be very similar.
