Yeah I'm using the $100 dock and a logitech keyboard/mouse in the meantime, but I hate stepping into class and having to fit all of it onto a tiny little desk, and I have to stay attached to the wall or it'll die in between classes. Having that keyboard to make it more like a laptop and having that second battery are going to make life so much better. I really like it, other than having to upgrade the wireless card, but so far I wish I had bought the crappy recommended touchscreen lenovo thinkpad. I got this because its much less bulky and more powerful, but staying on power saver and having to whip out three attachments does away with both of those benefits.

The keyboard dock would make the Edge Pro a truly portable solution. Until then, it's just a mess of attachments and silliness.

Amazon has the 256Gb Pro in stock. Is it worth buying versus waiting until the refresh and keyboard dock appears?

I got my Razer Edge last Friday and have been using it over the long weekend...absolutely LOVE it! Can't believe I held off on this thing because of the haters (about screen resolution, thickness, and battery life...none of which bother me, and I actually feel are very comparable, if not better than my Vaio Duo 11 I mainly used before).
The only downside so far is the lack of the keyboard dock.
Sony just announced the Tap 11 and it looks fantastic for size/design, but performance I'm sure will be a lower specced i7 (I'm curious to see if they can get the HD 5000 graphics in it...if so, I'll be quite surprised and may considering returning/selling the Edge Pro).
Either way, the Edge is a great device if you have certain expectations and uses. I can understand why many people complain about it from the aspect of not requiring full apps/games on the go with great performance where they'd just as well have a desktop or "more usefull" laptop, etc.
Myself, having had everything from my current custom built desktop, a gaming laptop, tablets, smartphones, and convertibles (Duo 11 and 13, Surface)...I'm finally getting down to simply a tablet (Razer Edge) and smartphone (HTC One) as my two main use devices, with a gaming desktop as the option when I really want to have high-end 2560x1440 gaming. But I'm on the go and traveling often, so the Edge is perfect for what I wanted. -

I was planning on using it away from home so I suppose that I should wait. Anyone know what the hold up is on the dock? 3d quarter will be over within a month.
-
tap 11 battery life cited as being 5 hours. thats underwhelming for a haswell tablet, but i guess unsurprising given its thinness. i wouldn't mind if the new edge retains its bulky nature, as long as they can double battery life and enhance performance. would also make sense to make it compatible with the existing dock/gamepad kits.
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
5 Hours? Ouch. It's a shame that companies are willing to sacrifice battery life in a rush to make the thinnest device.
-
I read on a couple other sites going over the Tap 11 that it was quoted as 6hrs battery life for use. Not that 1hr is a huge difference, but I'd be curious to see the settings...if that's power saving and just web browsing with lower brightness levels, ugh! If it's 100% brightness without any adjusted settings, not too bad.
On my Edge when i've taken it out for testing, I'm getting just shy of 5hrs on average with screen brightness at 60% and adjusted power saver settings for nearly max savings (I cap the CPU usage at 60% and keep everything else at max savings except WiFi). If I up the settings and brightness to about max, I get around 3.5hrs of usage.
I wasn't that impressed with the battery life on my Vaio Duo 13. It was around 6hrs of usage, but they restricted the power settings you could adjust, so I just left it at default but kept the brightness up because mine had bad viewing angles (I've heard otherwise about the device, so maybe mine had a bad display...it also had backlight bleed that was noticeable, along with a dead backlit keyboard on arrival...but I didn't get an exchange). -

-
Yeah, you're probably right. I loved the design improvements over the 11, performance was awesome (had the i7-4650u and 8GB), keyboard and touchpad I felt were great, and the display looked awesome when directly viewing (again, viewing angles were bad)...but I didn't get an exchange simply because it was too large for tablet use, and I didn't like the way the display sat when using the keyboard (it was just angled too far back for me).
Overall, it was a great device (more-so as a laptop), but the Edge is so much more usable as a tablet and more powerful when docked and using it at home, that I've much preferred it.
Oh wow, just read the Tap 11 comes with the "Y" model of Core processors, so the i7-4610Y will be the highest model available...not going to be comparable performance to the Duo 13, and definitely not the Edge Pro. Saves me from having to consider another device!
Oh, and the CNET article says 5hrs of battery life, as well. That doesn't make sense to me with these power saving processors, when even my Duo 13 with the i7-4650U was getting more than that (and it may have been a dud, or I may have just had it on full brightness doing too much like streaming music and browsing at the same time, etc). -

The Vaio fit looks cool but I learned the hard way that anything less than 13 inches at 1080p can get painful to work on after a few hours. Windows 8.1 should fix some of the DPI issues but I think Razer was smart to put the 1366 screen in the Edge. It's easy to use at 100% scaling and there's no need to play with the DPI settings. I'm sure that once Razer can fit a much more powerful GPU in the Edge, they'll eventually release a model with a 1080p screen.

I've liked all my razer products so far. Just not liking the unavailability of the ones I want most.

They pissed me of with what they did with the Ouroboros. It was released months ago for $129 but it was sold out forever. I refused to pay the inflated eBay prices of $150-$200 since I wasn't in a big rush to get the mouse. Razer finally has it back in stock and guess what, they raised the price to $149! Sure, 20 bucks isn't a big difference but I still think it's kind of deceptive for them to raise the price like that with no explanation. I'll just stick with my trusty G700 for now.

So any word/rumor on a second gen Edge out anytime soon?

I have a Naga Epic that I am quite fond of. If it ever breaks, I may get the next gen Naga.

EDIT: I've managed to boot my Edge after the updates failed. Going to try the updates one more time before I conclude that they're no-go for the Edge.
So at this time, I can't say that the updates bricked my Edge - I can say that they did crash and left my Edge in a bad state of affairs (although it seems to be booting now, which is good) -
Hmmmm. my edge has crashed a couple of times recently as well, each time from signing in to my comp after the update completes
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
I guess I will hold off before running any new updates on the edge. Has anyone heard/seen anything with the keyboard dock? I emailed support and this is all I got:
Thank you for choosing Razer.
I'm sorry, we do not have an ETA for the availability of the Edge keyboard in at the moment. Please sign up for the Razer newsletter here, and you'll be notified it and other new products become available in our store. -
Ugh, that's frustrating. I really wish if they don't expect it for another month or even six months that they'd just tell us. It's not like there is a bunch of competition they're holding back. They still have the same exact page, specs, and images on their site that they've had up since it launched...if they aren't willing to change that, either the product isn't changing like was said it would be, or they're just really f***ing lazy and annoying with their info.
Either way I love the thing and will be using a Logitech K810 and taking a small tablet stand around with me when I need a quick on-the-go setup. The Edge + keyboard actually fit in my little case perfectly without anything else, just don't have an efficient way to prop the tablet up.
Still gonna get some great use out of this thing, and when the keyboard dock does launch I will be ordering ASAP!
-
Yeah I got the same response when I emailed them a few weeks back. I'm really starting to wonder why I didn't just get the highest spec surface pro or something, anything that has a damn keyboard dock and full windows 8. I can't even really play the games I want to on this thing because its not quite powerful enough to do things like Splinter Cell Blacklist (really choppy even on low) and I would have to spend a couple hundred more dollars for a bigger SSD and then screw with either getting them to send me a recovery stick or cloning my drive onto the bigger SSD just to have more than 3 games on it.
-
Hey guys longtime lurker of this thread. I have a Edge that I upgraded the SSD and The WIFI card. I have been having issues with WIfi not reconnecting when coming out of sleep. It just get DNS errors. I went to just do a refresh of the OS as I just wanted to start over. But WIndows doesnt see the recovery partition. Its on my SSD as I did a Aronis ghost of the 64gb SSD. So im kinda stumped on what to do.
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
Did you upgrade to the intel 6235? That's the one I have and I've never had any problem with the WIFI. If you can't do the recovery, you may have to request the restore drive from Razer.
-
Yeah I upgraded to the 6235. I called Razer to get a restore drive and they beat around the bush. It was wierd. Its it me or is this tablet dead to them?
-
Anyone having issues shutting down the Edge? When I shut down from the start screen, the Edge goes into a power save mode rather than shutting completely down. The Razer logo stays illuminated and the power button flashes green. I have to hold the power button down to completely shut it off. Is this normal?
Also, anyone find a suitable on screen touch keyboard replacement? The fact that I can't make the keyboard transparent kills me! The thing blocks half the screen when I type. Not to mention it's not intuitive in any way. I tried using TouchPal but I cant get it to work. -

I am concered if the keyboard dock is not released. i am holding off buying until there is some resolution to this. Any advice as to what i should do?
-
dont get it until the keyboard is available. unless you want to carry around the docking station to keep it upright so you can use a keyboard/mouse like me. youre better off getting a lower spec tablet that has a keyboard or just getting a touchscreen enabled laptop.

If you plan on using it primarily in laptop mode, you're better off waiting for the keyboard dock or buying something else. For all other scenarios, the Edge works great as long as you're willing to pay for the home dock and gamepad.
-
I was going to use it partially in laptop mode. I suppose I can wait a while longer or go with a touchscreen laptop with no worse specs.
-
I expected to use it mainly in laptop mode, but I've found it is perfectly usable as an everyday tablet without bringing a keyboard around, and awesome for home use in the dock (even though I have a gaming desktop I built last year, the Edge gets the majority of my use now simply for convenience and space saving).
I'd say if you really want something powerful that is a great all around device it will work fine on-the-go comparable to any other touch only device...but if you have to do more serious work or typing on the go and are coming from a laptop or tablet/keyboard combo already, it will be a challenge and you'll be wanting a keyboard (which the K810 from Logitech with a little tablet stand or hauling the Edge dock around may do the trick anyways). I actually tried that and it is perfectly fine...especially if you search out a good case for a tablet, I have this one from Cocoon with a little handle and it has two separate zip pouches that perfectly fits both the tablet and keyboard, so only a little stand has to be carried separately in my work bag to be able to quickly set it up for on-the-go use. It's not quite the most portable solution compared to an actual keyboard case/dock setup, but if you really needed it and are wanting the Edge, it is serviceable until the keyboard dock is released.
Just as a comparison, I have come from a clunky large laptop from back in 2008 to the Sony Vaio Duo 11 (6 months), to the Surface Pro (3 weeks and returned), Vaio Duo 13 and Pro 11 (1 week and returned both), and finally settled on the Razer Edge Pro. The Surface and Edge are the only ones I really used in tablet mode on the go, the Duo 11 was ok but still a bit too large for my taste..
I use to use and have tried multiple Android tablets as well, but having multiple devices just wasn't what I wanted. Now with the Edge I can do everything and it is perfectly capable as a traveling tablet + laptop.
I'm on the go a lot, as I work in the wireless industry as a manufacturer rep traveling around to different stores/locations, and also live a distance away from family so I'm flying for at least 4 or 5 trips a year, usually for at least 3-5 days and at times longer. So the Edge Pro has become a life-saver for convenience, power, and portability and I wouldn't feel bad if the keyboard dock never came out as it has worked perfectly with some adjusting. Though don't get me wrong, I want the keyboard dock simply for the combination of a matching keyboard/case and to put in the external battery pack for a little more juice.

Oh, this is the sleeve that works perfectly for both the Razer Edge and a Logitech K810 keyboard. You could fit a tablet stand in there too, but only a small generic one if it was pretty flat, and if you didn't want it to scratch the keyboard or Edge you'd want it inside its own pouch or such.
I have it in black and took the "grid-it" out, though:
Amazon.com : Cocoon CNS360RD Neoprene Netbook Case, Up to 11inch Netbook /Laptop, Red : Electronics
It has a great feel both inside and out.
The nice thing about it too is that if I put the sleeve inside a larger bag, the two zippers are positioned on different positions so you can easily slide or leave the top facing up to grab the tablet out of either side you choose to put it in (basically can sit upwards or sideways in different types of bags and you just switch which side of the sleeve you put it in for easy access).
Also, something like this might be a good solution for something with an actual handle and strap if someone was considering putting a whole travel Edge + keyboard + stand type of solution together.
Amazon.com: AmazonBasics Netbook Bag with Handle, Fits 7- to 10-Inch Netbooks, iPad, HP Touchpad (Black): Computers & Accessories
or
http://www.amazon.com/Cocoon-CNS341BK-Netbook-Case-Blac
And this thing is a real tight fit case for the Edge but I actually like it if you're careful with the zippers not to rub. It can open up to be thicker and has a ton of little pouches, I love the case but haven't used it for the Edge (I tried and it does fit but not with a keyboard unless you had a really narrow keyboard as the case is only a tad over 11" wide.

Not sure why but I got into a case recommendation. Anyone have a flip cover stand that actually fits the Edge and looks nice with decent security? -
If I wanted laptop mode and running Win 8 in desktop mode would i need a keyboard/mouse combination(including some stand)?

I would personally go with the Razer Orochi. It's bluetooth but you can also plug it in when gaming. Here is the tablet stand that I have:
Amazon.com: AmazonBasics Portable Fold-Up Travel Stand for the new iPad, iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 7.0, Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Touch (Black): Computers & Accessoriesronaldheld likes this. -
Although it is a little bit larger and a couple dollars more than the Amazon Basics stand, it looks nice and is adjustable, though I haven't used it myself so I don't know if it fits the Edge:
Amazon.com: Anker Multi-Angle Portable Stand for Tablets, E-readers and Smartphones, Durable Aluminum Body, Compatible for Apple iPads, iPad Mini, iPod, iPhone 5 4S 4 3GS; Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Note 8.0 10.1, S4, S3, S2; Google Nexus 4,7,10; Asus Eee
As far as a keyboard goes for travel, I wouldn't even look at anything else besides the Logitech K810, it is by far the best I've seen or tried.
For cases, there isn't really any holster type of case, so you'd really just want to aim for something that can hold the tablet, keyboard, and stand. Maybe even something that could fit the charging cable and a USB plug or such.
As far as a mouse goes, the Orochi is solid, but if you want something tiny you might want to just look at a store for one of those really tiny travel mice. I like the Logitech M555b, but I'm partial to the smooth scrolling functionality of Logitech mice:
Amazon.com: Logitech Bluetooth Mouse M555b: Computers & Accessories
Lastly, if you really don't want to pull out a full mouse and keyboard, if you don't mind holding something while using a tablet on a stand, you could consider trying one of those wireless mini-keyboards with touchpad. This one piqued my interest but I haven't tried it:
Amazon.com: QQ-Tech® Newest Mini Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard Handheld with Touchpad for Android 3.0 + Tablet / Mac OS / Windows OS Google Nexus 7 / Google Android TV / iPhone 4 4S 3GS 3G / iPad 2 3 4 / iPad Mini / Samsung Galaxy S4 S2 S3 Note 8.0/ HTronaldheld likes this. -
Hi guys, has anyone ran into problems with y button on the gamepad?
I can press it but it won't respond, like rapid pressing ,only slow pressing.
What can I do? Thanks you -
you probably need to send it back. safest and easiest

When I go to the page for the keyboard I get a 404 error, so I have my fingers crossed it means they're updating the page, which hopefully means it can be bought soon.

I wonder what happened. They already had a prototype back in January so I would have thought that they could have finalized the design by now. Maybe there's still hope since the page is still up.
-
There is still 5 business days left in the 3rd quarter. (counting today)
Without a pre-order I doubt I will be lucky enough to get one of the first keyboards off the production line. -
So I broke down and ordered the flip cover with Bluetooth keyboard from amazon. It's a bit expensive and only has one review but I'm tired of carrying around a stand, full keyboard, and taking it in and out of a sleeve. I hope it's nice. I'll post my opinions after I receive it.
