It sucks so bad that Razer can't even make two or three fitting accessories (carrying case, sleeve, or kickstand case) that are the normal things people want for a tablet, but yet they can make an awesome dock, controller, and extended battery...they focused so much on the niche things they forgot the everyday ones that people would want :-(
-
-
I am hoping they release the keyboard dock when you can buy more items again. Can't get any of the accessories right now, on their site or others. Except maybe Ebay.
-
Way past time that they release the keyboard dock or officially cancel it.

I need a favor from one of you that has a razer edge and a bit of spare time.
The Battlefield 4 beta comes out on october 4th and it is an open beta free to play ect.
Since I dont have an Edge I would like to know how it runs.
Could someone download it on that day (maybe even run an overclock to help boost frames) and just tell me how well it does?
Thanks -

So, with the announcement of the Surface Pro 2 and the new covers...anyone curious how well the Bluetooth connector for the Type Cover would work with the Edge Pro? I know they're made to work with the Surface devices, but the fact it will have a Bluetooth adapter, kind of intrigues me, especially with the touchpad/mousebuttons and now backlighting.
I said earlier that I considered the Logitech K810 the best portable BT keyboard, but now that the covers will have BT they may end up working for other devices just as well, or even better.
Well, I guess the Type Cover 2 with BT would cost roughly $200, ugh. Not really worth it over the $60 for a K810. -

Just noticed that someone asked Min-Liang Tan about the keyboard on twitter and he replied "docks have been shipping from day 1 and the keyboard will be shipping in Q4".
I guess there's still hope although I am noticing that stock of the Edge and accessories are almost dried up. I wonder if a refresh is coming soon. -
-
A refresh is overdue along with some reliable keyboard dock shipping dates.
-
Supposedly the Iris Pro 5200 is faster than GT 640. A refreshed Edge would have no need of a discrete nVidia solution.
-
Is anyone really expecting a Edge refresh soon? With john's glowing reviews I'm thinking about adding the Edge to my repertoire with my Blade R2! But if there is a refresh coming soon then I think I should probably wait!

I would expect them to refresh it at same point since Haswell is out. One of the biggest gripes with the Edge is battery life so Haswell would be a nice boost. The big question is which video card will they choose and how much better will it be than the 640m le.

I am curious why it is taking so long?

AnandTech | Intel Iris Pro 5200 Graphics Review: Core i7-4950HQ Tested
Use the dropdown at the bottom to jump to games.
Gotta pay attention to the lower 47 watt benchmarks, not the higher 55w ones. The Bioshock Infinite benchmark is almost identical to the performance of the Razer Edge Pro at the same resolution and settings (sorry no comprehensive list for the Edge Pro, was just looking at various benchmarks). There are a couple games that the FPS are around 10FPS higher on average than that of the Edge Pro such as Battlefield 3 and Crysis 3, but I'd assume that's more because of the i7-4950HQ being quad-core and higher clock speeds than simply the GPU differences, and it's still not a huge improvement when considering it's the highest-end, in a larger laptop, and with higher specs overall.
Regardless, I don't think it'd be worth a refresh with Iris 5200 unless they could greatly improve performance and battery life...and from the looks of the requirements, I don't think it'd be possible. Especially since the TDP is almost identical to that of the Edge Pro as is, which means it'd simply require a larger battery to get any benefit.
Now that is all speculation based on current available benchmarks and hardware with better specced parts. If anything, it'd probably make the most sense for them to just wait until early next year to refresh with the whole new graphics architecture from Intel. Currently the performance improvements aren't that great over the original and it wouldn't really give them an edge (no pun intended) over the competition in other aspects such as size and battery life.thetruth1983 likes this. -
You would think that a company with the stature of RAZER would communicate better if launch plans had changed from their original launch announcement of Q3 2013. It sucks we have to get the current shipping plans of the highly anticipated keyboard dock from a 1 line statement buried in an obscure Twitter feed. Plus no new information on the final design of the product.. -

The new case arrived! Bluetooth 3.0 Keyboard Folio Case Cover for Razer Edge / Razer Edge Pro 10.1' Gaming Tablet , ( Keyboard Included , Screen Protector Included ):Amazon:Computers & Accessories
Here are my thoughts so far: The edge fits in the case very well. The backplate is pretty hefty and seems like it will hold up well. The front cover seems abit thin; standard thickness of a kindle or iPad cover. The cut outs for the fans are placed alittle below the fans but it still can vent pretty well via the fan cutouts or where the backplate meets the top cutouts (the whole area can get abit warm though). The magnetic closure is pretty weak but will do. There is a bottom tab that you can prop up that will allow you to charge your edge while standing it up and without it sitting on the plug; this tab only works if you have it opened at a pretty wide angle. It has a stylus holder on the right (when in stand mode) and a hand strap? I guess on the inside of the front cover. The keyboard is pretty thin and seems like a standard generic bt keyboard; comes with micro usb cord to charge. You can fit the keyboard in the case with the edge but it bows out the front cover a bit. I wouldn't trust it being in the case with my edge though. Without the keyboard in it, the case looks nice and again fits well. I think they did a pretty good job of figuring out a cover for the edge which isn't really optimized to be in a stand cover (placement of ports/fans etc) I wish it didn't include the keyboard to cut down on cost and because I wasn't really in the need of it but I guess it will be handy to have. The package also comes with 2 generic cut-to-size screen protectors. Let me know if y'all have any questions -
-
It's the only stand case on the market and that's what I need. It's an average case and works better for me then any other option, but if more companies were making them, then there would definitely be a better case out there.

Thinking of just biting the bullet and selling my edge. I've tried to make it work with several games that should allow controller support but suffer greatly without a keybard. I'm talking about most MMOs and even some multiplayer games that just feel awkward with the controller. MWO controller support is wonky, Neverwinter feels awkward (you wouldn't think, but it does), SWTOR just plain feels silly with not enough button options (original games were console games too!), War Thunder is too twitchy, and so many games that aren't touch optomized. Which comes to my biggest gripe: Windows 8. The O.S. itself may be touch optimized, but almost every app available is not. Using the OS via tablet feels clunky and awkward(that word again) and quite often leaves me feeling frustrated rather than productive.
I've a huge MMO gamer and I'm giving FFIVX a try before I sell my tablet as a last-ditch effort to justify the expense, but I'm at my wit's end trying to get games that I enjoy to work effortlessly on this thing. There are a few games it's suited for: 3-rd person adventure and 1-st person shooters, but even then I find the controller woefully lacking in build quality and comfort. Often times I'm wishing I could have a laptop to throw on my lap so the screen can sit vertically for easy viewing and playing. I haven't touched my tablet in almost 2 weeks because I'm getting fed up with the lack of support from both Razer and the lack of touch-optomized apps from Microsoft and third-party vendors.
If I do decide to sell it, is there anyone here interested in purchasing it? It's the 128 model with controller, extra battery and docking station... -
I will give you "Star Wars KotOR" (That's Knights of the Old Republic, and I'll assume that was an error on your part putting The Old Republic the MMO) as it should be playable with a controller, but other than that, what were you really expecting?
And I've had no problems with Windows 8 and apps on the desktop mode not being optimized for touch...that's to be expected and not necessarily a problem with the OS but rather support (like Google's Chrome sucks for touch, but that's Google's fault), and that's the whole point of having the "Metro" apps separate from the desktop. You really just seem like someone that needs to go get an iPad and stick to a desktop or laptop for their main computing/gaming needs. -
Speaking of Windows 8, I wonder if we'll see any SteamOS optimized tablets once it's released.

Let's look at some dates:
MWO - Release date: September 17, 2013 (Officially)
SWTOR - Release date: Dec 20, 2011
Neverwinter - Release date: Jun 20, 2013
War Thunder - Release date: Aug 15 2013
Out of those games, 1 is almost hitting the 2 year mark. I fail to see how these are "old games" by any standard.
Steam big picture has been a goto app of mine due to it's optimization of controller input. There are still quite a few problems with it that I doubt they will resolve. For one, it doesn't accept the keyboard button nor does it allow the virtual keyboard to overlay it's interface. I have to plug my keyboard in and alt-tab to do any kind of required keyboard input when launching a game (i,e, account logins for various online games.) Bioshock is a good example of this; the game requires a keyboard/mouse present in order to switch to controller mode due to the lack of touch optimization. There are many games that claim at least "partial" controller input but fail to recognize either the razer controller (even though it's seen as an xbox controller) or the implementation is just so bad I don't even bother with it due to frustration.
I actually find Google Chrome superior to Firefox or IE in terms of web browsing due to auto-sizing the web browser to portrait mode as opposed to using horizontal scroll bars in many other web browsers. I find the virtual keyboard clunky and inefficient when entering simple data, and selecting text to copy-paste can be a lesson on patience in itself. The only game I know of that's truly a windows game that utilizes touch is Civ V, which is a game that was release back in 2010, over a year OLDER than TOR.
I'm sorry you feel my post was threatening your opinion of the edge, that was not my intention. It was a post to emphasis my frustrations with the expectations of a GAMING tablet's capabilities versus what I feel it actually delivers: a subpar experience in almost all regards.
PS: I've purchased JOY2Key and xpadder in an attempt to at least try and work with the tablet controller. -
Games like Need for Speed most wanted, Skyrim, Tomb Raider, Bioshock infinite, and Ace Combat all play well on the game pad controller and docking station with an xbox controller.
If you use a full keyboard and mouse the games like NWN, STO, Firefall, and SWTOR play just fine
Most MMO games unfortunately do not have a good game experience using a controller. That being said if the Keyboard dock ever does actually release you will be able to experience the MMO game play the way it was intended on the Edge.
Now beyond the games and experiences listed above I have found that loading up my emulators with Hyperspin really brings the system to life. Being able to play all of the old consoles as well as current ports on the go has been fantastic. You can actually get almost 2 hours of game play on a full charge out of the edge w/o extended battery playing emulators as most of them do not use the nvidia graphics to run well.
I personally would wait for the keyboard dock pricing/availability to sell. If the keyboard dock doesn't give you the finished experience you are looking for then I would consider selling. -
I have had no issues with windows8. Granted there aren't that many touch based games just yet but they will come in due time. Most mmos you probably won't be able to play with a controller, if you want a keyboard alternative, check out the nostromo or like devices (I love my orbweaver). The keyboard dock (should be) coming out soon but if you need a stand case now there is one on Amazon that isn't bad. I'm kinda glad I didn't get the controller dock, a wired xbox controller is much less expensive and isn't awkward to hold.

Honestly, your thinking towards the Edge is foolish. End of story.
It's a PC crammed into a tablet that never tries to be anything more in regards to controls, outside of simply having an attachable controller. You should have known you wouldn't be playing MMO's not designed for a controller. That truly does amaze me and is laughable, I'm really NOT trying to be a d***, it's just to me like someone going to see a Michael Bay film and going, "I'm disappointed because the story and acting were not Oscar-worthy, I don't get it!?" Obviously you misunderstood what the product was, the software available for it, and were expecting something that was never even suggested by the advertising/manufacturer.
Your original post just seemed full of ignorance was all, excuse me for "being a d***" by laughing at what appeared foolishness by not learning about a product that costs a good chunk of change. Your expectations of an operating system with exactly the complaints you make about it, have been known about it since it launched. When you were purchasing the Edge you obviously just had a different thought process than someone that would have taken the time to learn what it really did. It plays games great, but in the "power for a tablet" way, not "with a touchscreen for all games" way you seem to be thinking...and that's what it was pitched as.
It honestly has nothing to do with what I think of the Edge. It's a solid product, but it misses the mark for numerous reasons, and I recognize those shortcomings...but they were never expectations I had, because I understood what the product was. You obviously did not and were picturing it as an operating system that was more than what Win 8 has ever tried to be, or what those games ever were, or what the Edge ever allowed. I recognize the problems the Edge has, as I've been discussing it throughout this topic.
In regards to how old those games were: I was confused by your comments towards "Neverwinter" which I was thinking of the old game Neverwinter Nights, along with thinking you were talking about the Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic games, because of your comments about "SWTOR" being on console, which it wasn't ever on console (the MMO)...since you later listed the release as Dec 2011, then that would be Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is only available on PC...yet in your original post you said the original games were on console, thus I thought you were talking about the 10+ year old games that launched on PC and Xbox, not simply that it should have similar control to the "original" games that were totally different in gameplay.
I do apologize for being off with the dates of the games you were actually meaning, though my comment about the actual games not being optimized for touch still stands...as that has NOTHING to do with Razer, Microsoft, or the Edge, it's all based on the developer of the game. Every PC game on the market COULD be optimized for controller and touch, but that's a lot of development time and resources most game companies would not bother with, since it's just not realistic to expect that out of current products or even the market to want it. -
Oh, and btw. People with carpal tunnel using a controller and ergonomic equipment is totally different than holding a heavier tablet with a controller attachment to play MMO's. It really was a dumb comparison.
Not to mention those people have to knowingly go out of their way to learn to play with those input methods, it's not like it is a natural and beneficial way to play in most circumstances where the developer designed the game around that and the product is at fault for not allowing better controls. Sure, it is nice when it can work (such as XCOM on iOS), but for the games you listed it just doesn't equate to efficient controls or applicable to the overall product or development. Can there be a workaround and exception, sure, but most times it is more similar to how a guy with no arms can learn to play Frisbee rather than the average person benefiting from learning to handicap themselves. -
Yeah, I got through the first few sentences in and stopped reading. For a guy who laughs so much, you're quite the negative-nancy. If you want to start a flame thread please take it to my inbox, I'd be more than happy to discuss our differences in opinions there rather than poisoning the thread. Let's just agree to disagree and move on.
-
I'm not being negative at all. You were the one being negative about a product that you should have known how those things worked before ever buying it. Then you assume I'm defending the product, versus defending against ignorance while buying it.
I haven't been flaming you at all outside of saying it was your ignorance that is creating the problem you have with the product, and not the product itself. Other than that, I don't feel I've been negative or flamed at all. But of course this is the internet, where nobody can simply accept when they were being ignorant or foolish and would rather stop reading. -
i thought of this scene when i read these last few posts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAVoQ2kshN8
anyway. I'm sure we're all just super upset about not owning the awesome convenienceness of the keyboard dock so that we can fully use the product.nyjfootball likes this. -

Do you have the dock for sale too? I'm looking to pull the trigger on a Razer edge pro, but I'm not willing to buy it new. If anyone is willing to sell their Razer edge pro with the dock pm me.
