I could not wait for this thing to get released and get here because I've really needed it, but I wouldn't pay $20 for this thing. It doesn't even work. It's incredibly cheaply made and designed. I wouldn't be surprised if their connection just isn't good for keyboard input. I know they're capable of producing good products; I have a blackwidow 2013 keyboard and a naga mouse and they're great, but this thing is just really disappointing

I received mine also not having any problem with the keys registering just have to hit the keys like its like a mechanical keyboard. Also with the extra battery in the bottom of the unit feels sturdy enough , its not going to tip over. The plastic strap might be an issue long term , feels unstable and does not feel secure in its slot because it wobbles back and forth if you touch it or move it. If your just going to have this sitting on your desk or table you should be fine and it will serve its purpose. If you to hold it in lap forget about it.... also mine sits exactly like the razer website pictures at a slight angle back and not straight up. Overall it will serve my purpose of using the game for keyboard and mouse games like Diablo and for basic typing....also wish the keyboard lit up but it doesn't ,keys are neon green to give it that appearance.

FYI my 14 year old just saw the razer with keyboard and told me it looks pretty sick......that's a good thing

I'm surprised the keys aren't backlit but oh well. Does the case protect the Edge pretty well for example if it was dropped? I'll have mines on Tuesday and I plan to transfer the battery from my gamepad to it.

Ok, if the keys aren't backlit it's going back. Mine's shipped and says delivery for Tues. Ugh, months of waiting for this POS! NOT EVEN BACKLIT, !?!?

Guess I'll have to make due with the dock and K810 for my travel needs still. F***ING LAME! Might just sell the whole package now.

The case fits nice and snug in the unit and is completely recessed so I think a fall would protect it unless the unit pops out...

These comments are useful. Pictures would help. Has it been a waste of time waiting for the dock? No backlit keys is another strike against it.

Assuming Razer is true to form with their key backlighting, it's not backlit. There are no function toggles to increase/decrease the keyboard lighting based on the picture of the keyboard. There's just the screen brightness increase/decrease toggles.

chunki, what's it like without the battery pack installed? Maybe patarrfwifwi doesn't have the battery pack. That could explain the difference in feel.

Not being able to use it on a lap is a bit of a disappointment. Do you say that it won't work because it's top-heavy, or because it's not big enough for a lap?

    Hi,

The laptop is a little small for the lap but I rest mine on cushion and its fine. It's already beginning to grow on me and is a keeper . The two main complaints would be that the tablet wobbles forward because only magnets secure it into the slot but it will not move backward once it hits a certain point which I find to be a good viewing angle. The second is of course the no backlit keyboards or even razer logo on the back of the case (unlike the gamepad) .
For casual use its fine and adds another dimension to the Edge and if you play games like Diablo the Keyboard will get the job done (it has a game mode option button, haven't tried it yet). Another thing is it feels secure once closed and actually takes a bit of force to open( a good thing). Its nowhere near perfect but just good enough for me.

I'm still baffled that it doesn't have the backlit keyboard or illuminated logo especially since both of those features are on the gamepad. Maybe it's an conspiracy to get us to buy Razer Blades lol.

For $200 they should have been able to include a battery. Considering lots of bluetooth keyboards or cases have been able to fit in batteries and backlit keys for half the price of this.

I think they could have even included backlighting, bluetooth, and a built-in battery just for powering the backlighting, and still have included the extended battery for $200 and it'd be reasonable.

Look at the name brand keyboards and covers for things like the iPad or Surface. $80-130 and they include a lot more than this thing, plus they're more portable and compact. Or even the Logitech K810, that thing has a small battery and lasts for days (if not weeks) with the backlighting on, and it's quite small.

I think the keyboard dock with backlit keys and a built-in extended battery should have cost around $200, and $150 without the extended battery. IIRC the keyboard dock was even announced originally for $100. Maybe I'm mistaken, but if so, I'd bet they jacked it up having not sold as many Edges as they'd hoped so they know the small fanbase would buy it either way.

Yup Razer pulled a fast one with the Edge. They hyped it and swept it under the rug. Not doing business with this company again.

I just received my Keyboard Dock....boy does it suck!!! The viewing angle on it is similar to the main dock, which is too steep for comfortable viewing as a laptop (unless you're standing up at the right angle on a higher desk). I'm kinda pissed although in some ways not surprised at the terrible build quality.

Glad I didn't buy the keyboard dock, the stand case, although expensive works well with viewing angles, sitting in lap, and moving from place to place. I have it paired with the k810 keyboard instead of that cheap keyboard tho. It seems to be the best option for me for now, until a new stand case or some other peripheral comes out, if at all. I wish there were more options! (And more USB ports, and an Ethernet port on the edge lol) btw, anyone having issues with netflix on windows 8.1?

It will have to take getting used to, similar to the dock. I have the dock next to an external screen so the angle with the distance doesn't bother me as much. Things they should have included on the keyboard dock...HDMI, and maybe a card reader but that's pretty much stretching it. Throwing in the battery would have been a really nice touch. I'm looking forward to leaving my external accessories at work now attached to my dock. Not sure why, but when I close the keyboard dock with the tablet, the screen doesn't turn off. Can't seem to find the setting to make sure it's not a preference thing.

    Hello Guys

I just got mine in. I don't think it's worth 200.00 but i think it's pretty cool. The angle of the screen is fine with me and the keyboard works great so far. Mine came with the Razer Logo on the back which looks nice. The usb ports work great also. All in all i like it even though it's quite pricey.

Best Buy is selling the controller dock online if anybody is interested.

I just received my keyboard, and I am highly disappointed. The viewing angle is actually a little better than the dock, but the key feature - the keyboard - is awful. It's like a kid's toy. The keys are cramped, which is expected but not entirely necessary considering there's a lot of wasted space (multiple reviewers criticized this a year ago when it was demoed), and the finger response is minimal. Worst of all, the keys don't actually work - there is minimal confidence, if you don't push the key firmly and dead center, it frequently doesn't register. I have yet to type a complete sentence without having to make corrections. Smacking the space bar with my thumb like normal only registers half the time.

The material used for the hinge doesn't look very good either - if you look at it when the device is propped open, it wrinkles badly and will likely shear and/or peel over time. Combined with the lack of a battery or any useful features, this is really an awful, awful buy at $200. Based on comments about the pre-release version by reviewers, Razer took absolutely no steps to improve the device or address any criticisms. The worst part is, the only other option is lugging a dock and keyboard around.

Count me among those done with Razer products. They make cool products, but they clearly have no interest in releasing good products or supporting them over time. I've purchased several Razer accessories and the only thing that has worked well is the tablet itself (edit - scratch that, the normal dock is pretty good). Without those accessories the tablet is just the most awkward gaming laptop on the market.

I'm on it right now and I think there should have been some kind of option for different viewing angles. Sitting at a normal kitchen table, the tablet is way too upright, I have to slouch back in order to get a better view of my screen. I'm new to the forums, but I've been batting with the wifi issue with the Edge pro for quite some time. I had to buy 3 tp link usb wifi adapters (one for the dock, misplaced another and now have a smaller one on the side of the keyboard dock) just to get the same wifi reception as my phone!

Overall I'm a believer in the edge pro, even though I have the 128 gb version but I'm planning on getting an mSata pretty soon. One of my controller sticks slightly broke as well (clicking sound when I move it upwards). I also can't update to 8.1 windows but that's probably a windows issue.

You can always upgrade the wifi card inside to a better one. It only takes 10 minutes of time and is well worth it IMO. I'll put a link to the one I'm using but someone else mentioned earlier that they put an AC card inside.

A 256GB isn't much better. What you want to look for is either the 512GB or the new 1TB coming. The 512GB is a Samsung PM841, part number MZMTD512HAGL-00000. It should street for a bit less than $400, though I see gouging has it up to $600-$750. It's not worth that. The 1TB should be MZMTE1T0HMJH, probably with 0's after it. It isn't out yet, but it looks like it should street for $630.

Send it in for repair. They'll repair it and send it back. I had to send mine in for a stuck bumper.

You can get a Windows 8 recovery USB stick from them if you need to roll back. They have good instructions on how to install Windows 8.1 on their support site.

Mine's fitted with the 512GB mSATA and an Intel 802.11ac card, the 7260.HMWG. It goes for around $30. Everything works well, though Windows 8.1 is a pain - only old drivers for Intel and nVidia so no GeForce Experience. I'm planning to format and install Win 8.1 from scratch at some point or just roll back to Win 8.

Thanks for the tips. 1 TB would be amazing. .. Okay I'll either wait for that or go for a 512 gb. So I should pretty much stay in 8.0 for a little bit?

I'm with everyone else, it's disappointing to say the least. It does offer a decent amount of protection at the sacrifice of being a fat heavy tacky feeling pos.

Without any additional features (backlighting, included extended battery, multiple viewing angles, etc) this is a terrible buy outside of really being the only option you have. I will say I personally don't mind the viewing angle myself, but I can understand the complaint. The keys are just as others have said, terrible response and accuracy, about on par with using a first gen Surface Touch Cover or Sony Vaio Duo Pro. It also has seemingly no reason to be so cramped, there's about two inches of empty space above the keys in front of where the tablet itself sits and about an inch on each side.

The Edge Pro is great itself because it's the only thing that you can get on this level of performance and is great in the docking station, controller, and quite usable as a tablet, but the keyboard dock adds so much and feels like any cheap case you'd get for a tablet that it doesn't compete on a laptop level at all. It's sad when I (and I'm sure I'm not the only) can say that I'd recommend others go without than purchase this. I'm sending mine back and can live with a K810, sleeve, and taking the dock around when I travel.

They really should have made the keys larger for the space they have, added backlighting, and included the extended battery. That would have made it at least worth the purchase. It's amazing a company with their resources and the amount of extra time they spent designing this thing can fail so bad.

Shot some quick photos with my watch. At my parent's house and sitting at this table is uncomfortable to type. The right shift key is really a pain and 'm' and 'k' doesn't seem to work that great.

Where the edge snaps in could wear out over time. From going to the controller and then to the dock or just as a tablet on it's own. ..I say I would take it out at least 20 times a day.

I find that depending on finger placement it's any key. For me I fail a lot at "a", and "i" when shifting it. The biggest pain is the space bar. If you don't hit it square so the entire key is pressed down, it will fail 50% of the time or more, even though without looking it feels like you depressed the key. It's completely unacceptable for a keyboard in this day and age, and outrageous at Razer's price. It has the responsiveness of a roll up keyboard bought at a Big Lots. I can type faster and more reliably on an ipad screen (though part of that is experience, it shouldn't need to be over a physical keyboard). I may try an exchange, but it seems like a design issue.

Another issue I notice this morning, you will need to go into keyboard settings and disable allowing the device to wake the machine - when you close it, it will press keys against the screen and wake the machine.

    Very poor showing by Razer.

Man that explains why my battery was half gone during my commute last night....I suspected that was the case but couldn't remember if I unplugged my edge prior to leaving work. Damn this keyboard sucks!

The main reason why I got the edge is because I have a chronic back injury. I need to change my ergonomics frequently throughout the day and the edge allows me to work and game lying down, standing up etc. I was hoping the keyboard would bring back some of the functions of using a standard laptop I.e. sitting in a lazy boy or sitting at a desk without having to do a full external keyboard set up and tear down.

    And some more...

Out of the box, the pleather material is cold so the angle of the back is close to 90 degrees:
    [A angle cold.jpg
After it warms up and the tablet is installed, it leans back a bit:
    angle tablet.jpg
And after one clip-in of the tablet, the corners of my case are cracked:
    racked plastic-rubber after first insertion.jpg

So it's not the sturdiest thing available for the Edge, and it does make it feel heavy and fat. It does sit on my lap ok, though using one's fingers to poke the screen instead of a trackpad is not great.

Is it worth $200? If there were alternatives that worked, I'd say no. Since there aren't, I say if you're an early adopter you may as well just go all-in on the thing.

I also have the Intel ac card inside my Edge. Do you have wifi drops when your on the 5ghz band? My 2.4 works great but the 5ghz band is dropping signals. It could be my router but i wanted to make sure it wasn't.

Thanks for the photos guys!! I really feel like telling that arrogant razer CEO off! We waited Almost 10 months for this joke?? shouldn't be more than $75.it looks like a cheap Chinese knockoff of a real product, I love the edge easily the best device I have owned in the last decade but razers horrible wait times , inventory shortages, quality control issues and just plain rude customer service makes me think that if given the option I would never buy a another razer item.

Is it just mine or does the back have the window for the symbol to glow but doesn't?

How unfortunate, I liked the glow of the tablet and controller. Sort of takes away from it a little, as sad as that is I guess. It was just another one of those nice polished touches to make it feel and look nice.

On a side note, from the few minutes I used it (because of constraints at the moment I couldn't use it much) but it seemed to work just fine, though does feel a bit cheaply pieced together but it did actually serve its purpose. I had some trouble getting it out of its left corner mount, it seemed to wedge itself in there pretty good and I get the sinking feeling that's going to break one of these days, sooner than later upon dismount most likely

I on the other hand would rather have the keyboard work better over looks. Maybe a small batch have messed up keys and others are okay.

I played a few minutes of Hard Reset FPS and it works pretty good for gaming. The right shift key needs to be bigger though. ..reminds me of the messed up verbatim foldable keyboard. ..I could never get used to it.

Yeah I get the feeling a percentage were affected by this missing key press as others have reported but mine seems to work as normal. It's disappointing at best even with working keys, leaves lots to be desired or what it could have been. And yeah, I miss shift every time too

    Overall opinion -
    Extremely overpriced.
It's poor, but for the most part works.
Seems to vary between units if key presses register.
Only reason to own one is if you're mobile a lot, there's really no comparable option (sadly) aside from lugging a massive amount of stuff around with you

Disappointing for a company that actually make keyboards, I think they may have given up on the Edge long ago personally (for whatever reason, the Edge seemed to take a back burner role as the Blade was being announced) and they're just recycling the prototype as retail so people can't criticize for advertising it and not releasing it

Curious, so you are having no problem if you hit the key slightly off-angle? I can tap the side or corner of any key, and it feels like it's pressed, but it fairly frequently isn't (you can kind of see if you look at it). If it isn't all keyboards then I will push them for an exchage. I wrote them about it today and I got this response:

They clearly don't care about their products or customers, just initial sales. Regardless of the outcome I am done with Razer products.

I showed the product to a coworker today and told him the price - his jaw dropped. :)

If I hit my keys at a off angle they miss on my keyboard. I also own a asus T100 and the included keyboard run circles around this. This is the worst product I have ever bought. So pissed right now...

I finally have my keyboard in and it seems all of the keys work fine. The main problems I am having is that the space bar doesn't seem to register a keypress unless I press it in the middle, the right shift button is too small, and the keyboard overall feels very cramped. I've been spoiled by my logitech k810 but unfortunately, I'm not willing to travel with a keyboard and dock when I go out. There are no alternatives to the Edge keyboard dock so I think I may have to suck it up and keep it. For 200 bucks, all of the complaints that I've read here are valid. It wouldn't be a big deal if this thing was 80 bucks or so.
