Wanted to give an update. I have gone in the registry and tried to disable Nvidias Powermizer. I also tried two programs Powermizer Switch and Powermizer manager just in case I didn't edit the registry right. Still no luck :-\ I have noticed using gpu-z that the PCI-E Bus Interface changes from PCI-E 2.0x16 @ x16 2.0 when on AC to PCI-E 2.0x16 @ x16 1.1 when on battery. I think this drop in speed is causing the drop in FPS. I'm not sure how to keep this from changing, so I'm going to wait for Razer to reply back. :-\
Update#2
I got a reply back from Razer.
"Salutations Gamer,
The decreased performance is normal while on battery, when the gamepad controller is used (and contains a battery) the performance will increase as if it was on the power adapter.
This was to ensure some portability and battery life while mobile. Sorry for any confusion.
Hope this helps. "
Its good to know that this is normal and that when gaming with the Gamepad Controller w/Battery performance is back to normal.

Now all they have to do is anyser the damn question on when we can buy it

Hey guys i order my edge pro 256gb on best buy
on 04/17/13 and today i finally got my email with the
tracking number i hope it arrives soon -
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
Same here. It's been a while since I've been this excited to get a new toy. Now Razer just needs to take my damn money for an extended battery, gamepad, extra charger, and 2 docks!
-
Well I called razer to find out about the controller. They said it would be available soon(in blizzard terms)
Also asked about the screen orientation button....apparently it's a firmware issue that requires me sending it in??They said if they cant fix it they will send me a new one. So im just going to exchange mine with amazon and get the 256 gb. arrrgh what is up with my luck...
-
I had to send mine in for the orientation lock button also , thought about returning it to Amazon (had it for a week) but figured this way I'm getting it back with Razer giving it the once over. I sent mine back to Razer last Thursday ...they took care of the firmware issue and its already scheduled to be delivered to me tomorrow ... I have to say that after owning it a week and then being without for week , I sure do miss it ....even just in tablet mode, can't wait to get the gamepad.
Just an FYI , to restore windows , drivers etc...Like the Blade you will need to request the USB restoration stick from Razer...So if you ever plan on restoring/ reinstalling .. just keep that in mind... -
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
Wow my Edge is scheduled to be delivered on tomorrow. I hope I won't need to turn around and send it in for a firmware update. What's exactly the problem with the button? Is it just non-functional?
-
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
Yes I was thinking about about getting the 128 but I'm glad I waited. I'm going to load a bunch of games on tomorrow and I hope the button works. How long was the turn around time from the time that you sent it?
-
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
That's a pretty fast turnaround. I will report back later if I have any problems with my Pro after I receive it later.

Okay, so I've had the Razer Edge since about 4:00 PM today... and here are my initial impressions are good. I haven't had a chance to do any real gaming on it, as I spent today basically downloading all my applications, getting Steam downloads started, and so forth.
My complaints aren't really with Razer and the tablet itself... but with Windows 8.... it's just unintuitive and stupid. There's basically TWO operating systems on this tablet - the Xbox Live-ish Metro interface where you download apps like on a cellphone and such, and the traditional windows you know and love. There are weird situations where you have TWO sets of the same app... like there's a Chrome for Windows and then Google Chrome... Chrome for Windows seems to support all the touchscreen features like pinch-to-zoom and such. Uninstalling windows apps is a pain... and the market doesn't tell you if an app is officially developed or not, so you may download a facebook app (which from the outside looks official and has the official logo) only to find that it's really "Bob's Facebook Interface" which is loaded with ads and such. Annoying.
The Windows 8 touchscreen keyboard is pretty godawful terrible. It pops up when you don't want it to, and when you DO want it... it's nowhere to be found. All my hardware buttons work fine, so it's often necessary to "force" the tablet to pop the keyboard up by hitting the physical button.
My tablet had over 200GB of space free upon first boot up, and I've installed about 40GB of games and apps so far... so I'm down to about 160. I've got Comodo Antivirus going, and am working on installing Office and Photoshop.
My initial impressions are: Get a keyboard and mouse ASAP! Seriously... this tablet is just about crippled without them for any sort of serious PC task. Copying/pasting is seemingly impossible. It's kind of like having a beefy gaming PC and trying to control it with your phone... it's frustrating. But if you're just sitting on the couch, scrolling websites and tapping on apps via Metro UI... then it's fine.
The battery life is pretty bad... I can tell already. This thing rips through battery life like nobodies business... I didn't even really push the tablet with any gaming today, and I've already charged the tablet twice. I would definitely like to get a second battery for this thing at some point.
So far I've only had one "glitch" and it was with Windows 8, not the tablet itself. The mini-onscreen keyboard somehow got stuck when I launched the Guild Wars 2 patch updater... and the keyboard kept popping up, disappearing, then popping up again. It seemed to be in an endless loop. Of course I wasn't able to get into the task manager because they've buried it 50 menus deep now, just like the Start Menu and command prompt... so I had to reboot the thing, and it started behaving again.
All the issues I've had seem to just be Windows 8 being a big bucket of fail. So far the tablet itself has not failed in any way shape or form. -

My 256gb pro arrived on yesterday but I was too tired to open it when I got home last night. I finally cracked up open this morning and the first thing I noticed was that the seal on the box was already cut. I inspected the tablet and it doesn't appear to be damaged. I also noticed that steam wasn't installed and I thought it was supposed to come pre-installed. My auto-rotate button does work so maybe Razer opened it before sending it in order to install the firmware.
Also, Holy **** this thing is thick! I knew going in that it would be thick but I expected it to be Surface Pro thick. I do have to admit that it feels solid and I will probably get over the weight soon since I didn't buy this to replace my Surface. Anyhow, I will spend the day installing games over slow @$$ wifi (seriously no 5GHZ?) and I will report back if I have any problems. -

Considering how simple it is to get into the Edge you could more then likely add one your self very easy.
You would need to buy the 3rd wire and just tape it down inside but after watching the tear down video of the edge that would take all of probably 5 minutes to do.
Might be something to consider down the road because it should have a much faster wireless card and it sure would make swapping files to and from say your desktop much better and easier then always plugging in an external drive. -

It is literally 2 screws and the back cover comes right off then you have access to the machine. Msata,RAM etc .
Can throw in a 512 Msata drive at some point as well and none of it should technically void the warranty if you are careful enough and there do not seem to be any seals to break anywhere either so its less to worry about.

Yeah 256 would be enough but im sure the 128gb and 64gb guys were elated to find out just how easy it is and also not having any regrets for going small initially.
The thickness of the tablet personally i think is worth the trade off if it means easy access and more room for upgrades etc.
Also cleaning the fans properly every couple months by removing the cover instead of just blowing the dust back into the machine is a great idea.
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
I agree. Normally, I would never buy a tablet this thick. When you take into consideration that it has a discrete GPU, you have to wonder why isn't it thicker than it already is =)
On a side note, I noticed that Amazon has a few used systems which I'm assuming are returns. The 128gb is $1,195 and the 64gb is $920. -
Let me go on record as saying if you modify your system parts, Razer may not honor their factory warranty if something unrelated goes wrong later.
I've heard horror stories from Blade owners to the same effect. -
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
I was thinking the same thing but since it has no seals to break, you could probably just put the old part back in if you needed to send it in for warranty. That is assuming that there isn't some other secret way for them to tell that you opened it.
-
Yeah that is always the case with opening an item not really meant to be opened. The fact they give it such easy access though i really doubt they would ever know and as long as you do not damage anything just swapping out an SSD or the like i would not even be concerned.
Taking apart the Blade it was far more likely you would leave signs of going in and out of the machine unless your super careful but the Edge is a different animal and also far less complicated.
As always people just need to use their own discretion. -
That video made me extremely happy (it also look like the ram was replaceable?)
Haven't sent mine in because I've been waiting for 256s to pop up.
I'll just buy one from micro center
Asked razer about the controller and dock they said stock would be available within the next 2 weeks -
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
It's a shame that all of the accessories have been sold out for this long. I'm surprised the extended warranty on their site hasn't sold out yet. It would be nice if we could at least get a specific date of when the retailers get more stock. With my luck, they will restock while I'm sleep and everything would be sold out by the time I get up.
-
The onscreen keyboard doesn't work with a lot of games... I find that if a game requires you to type anything, like Diablo 3... you can't get the game logged in without an external keyboard. I have a feeling the keyboard can't pop up over a Direct3D application.
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
That sucks. I was under the impression that you could press the hardware button and it would bring up the keyboard in any application.
-
Within the next two weeks they said all of the accessories would be available. I saw someone saying may 17th.
The two weeks I got from my razer response.
For the in game keyboard update the razer app the tab comes with it fixed that issue for me
I got amazons canopy warrenty because they give you cash for cash value if
A. Its not repairable.
B. Standard warranty doesn't cover the damage or too many repairs on same item
I don't like thr best buy one because it only gives you something comparable which for technology in one year alone it would be obsolete. -
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
I don't know if it's the same but I purchased the extended warranty on my Onza from bestbuy. When it broke, they didn't have anymore left and I told them the regular microsoft controller wasn't comparable. They ended up just giving me my money back. How much was the Amazon warranty? I'm thinking about getting either the bestbuy warranty or the squaretrade warranty.
-
The canopy warranty was 155.99 for 2 years they have a 3 year for 229 -
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
Wow $155 is cheap if it covers accidental damage.
-
Can't wait for the controller so I can get the extended battery
told you it was thick ahahaha
Also clearshell gives you classic windows style with the start button and such -
I was debating between Squaretrade and the Geeksquad warranty and ended up going with Geek Squad simply for the convenience of being able to bring the Razer Edge into my local Best Buy if there are serious issues.
I used to work for a big box store that sold replacement plans, and I'll just say this.... stores like Amazon and Best Buy make huge profits off these replacement plans by NOT paying out claims. Just remember that. Read your replacement contract carefully, because when you need to make a claim - they're going to look for any and every reason to deny your claim. -
just a quick question for you edge owners. anyone know how to get into the uefi bios off hand? im guessing its a button combo, and i tried the default for getting into a surface pro (hold vol+ and power) but that didnt work, nor did having the option to restart into it, like ms gives as an option. I dont have an isuse with mine, however i thought i might like to poke around in it and see what there.
thanks. -
Using the Diamond WPCTVPRO wireless usb to hdmi or vga adapter works flawlessly with my edge pro. For $99 a great little product and using it more than my hdmi dock.
-
Have you tried hooking up a USB keyboard and done the usual keys to get into a bios ? F2/Delete etc. -
I am extremely happy with my razer edge and it perfectly fits my lifestyle but I'm experiencing a hard to ignore issue with the edge... After about an hour of play (game or media such as Netflix) the edge begins to skip momentarily and make audible skips as well which lasts about 10-15 seconds. I thought it may have been the game I was playing at first but then became concerned when I saw it in other games and applications such as Netflix. If the edge wasn't such an expensive toy I may be able to ignore but I def don't want to see this experience continue after making such a tough investment. I have updated the drivers and have performed restarts but that has not helped. Please advise if there is any more troubleshooting I should be trying or anyway you can help in this matter.
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
I've played with my Edge for longer than a hour and I still haven't ran into that problem. Are you running on battery power or plugged in? I think some computers have a setting that throttles the system settings once the battery gets to a certain percentage.
-
It's happening both battery and connected via ac... I first went an entire playthru of bioshock 1 without a single hiccup... I started experiencing problem with portal 2 as it was causing my edge to completely crash... Initially I thought it was portal 2 cuz I looked it up and it seems that game has many reports of crashing issues but then I played thru far cry blood dragon and notice the audio/video skipping I thought ah maybe that's a blood dragon issue but I'm now trying to play thru LA Noire and see the same exact skipping so I tried other apps like Netflix and same thing... Not like a network buffering type skipping either its odd it almost consistently identical every time like 10-15 seconds.... Razer suggested network issues but I tried their troubleshooting and failed so waiting on their next responseQuadzilla likes this. -
question for fellow edge owners. i have not tried to open my edge up in any way (yet) for fear of warranty issues, BUT looking at the bottom of my edge i see two holes on each side of the pin connector. Looked inside hard for the first time today and saw I had a torx screw on the left and apparently NO SCREW on the right. Uhm, can anyone else veirfy if they have both screw in their units or did mine just come with a screw loose (seriously) or missing. Thanks.
-
thetruth1983 Notebook Evangelist
-
yeah i emailed razer tonight about it, just to give them a heads up. happy to put screw in myself if they will ship it to me. tablet is problem free thusfar.
-
-
-
i dunno, i just added an extra screw i had lying around. i'm assuming the back panel pops off easily. any pics? only mod worth considering would be a dual band card and maybe a bigger msata one day

Has anyone use External Hard Drive on the Razer Yet? I have WD Passport 1TB and No luck, looks like it needs more power to run. I plug it in then it just hangs.
What is the Max Space Hard Drive you can run on Razer, or is it the Brand.
