I installed this dim:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YG8X9Y?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
Took a bit of web crawling but it's a direct match to the 2x4gb sticks installed in the pro. The actual install was simple. It involves removing two t6 screws from the bottom and replacing the front 4gb stick with the new 8gb.
I've already upgraded the wireless card to AC and set up an AC Router in my home. Next is a 1 TB msata SSD.

does anyone have a copy of the usb recovery files? Edit: nvm, i saw the post about the usb keys having matching numbers to the device.Last edited: Jun 28, 2015 -

That would be great. Even if I could extract the drivers out it could possibly help thanks

Hi I need help doing a recovery as well. I received a USB from Razer today but I could not seem to get boot menu to load up and was not able to change the boot priority in BIOS.
I do not have a dock so I don't think I can copy the steps in the link above.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! -
wow few days passed and 0 seeds already tells you a lot about community...
-
eric13 I am seeding and will continue to seed. You could just be polite and just ask people to seed, there's no need for the entitlement.
You're also not even pulling my max upload bandwidth.
I've also gotten PS3 controllers working wirelessly with a generic cheap BT adapter for emulation. When I can snag a Dualshock 4, I wont even need the generic BT adapter.
I still need to get a few accessories, but I am very much looking forward to sharing any cooling upgrades I have planned, and I'm working on getting Windows 7 as functional as possible on this tablet. I've found most of the needed drivers (though I expect issues with the sensor software), and am now just waiting on an official Razer recovery drive before I start really getting into it.
Thanks for the 200 pages of informative posts. -
Press the power button until the green light comes on.
Press the volume down button a few times.
Once the boot menu comes up release the Windows button.
You can also access the EFI ("bios") screen by using volume up instead.
https://copy.com/7MIoCRVAE1Uo
You can use the volume keys for up/down, rotation lock for cancel and keyboard button to select an option.
If the system wont boot off your recovery media, try turning off secure boot in the EFI under boot options. -
The reason why I posted needing help was because I couldn't get it to work..
I received those same instructions from razer but no matter how many times I try it the boot menu will not show up. -
I found when doing anything to the windows 8 bootloader (like disabling driver signature enforcement), the Edge sat on the logo screen for 5+ minutes before loading back up. During this time, the EFI and boot options screen would refuse to show. Pulling the SSD allows you to get back into those loading screens, but obviously wont let you get into windows.
If your windows 8 bootloader is broken you may need to use an external tray to wipe the drive so you can use the recovery flash drive.
The first step is to just leave the Edge running for several minutes to see if Windows 8 decides to boot on its own.Last edited: Jul 19, 2015 -

I know this is a very late response, but I unfortunately had this exact same issue with my Edge after (gently) removing the cooler assembly when changing thermal paste. It was on screw 5 and 7 though, not 7 and 8. Fortunately I do have the skills and tools to fix this. Your CPU heat-plate wont be making enough contact with the CPU to keep it cold.
I removed the old solder on the mount, and from the hole, used a bit of flux and tinned them with fresh solder, reinserted the mount while holding it down with a screwdriver inserted into a screw that was threaded half into the mount, then soldered the mount back down with a bit more fresh solder. So this repair is easy if you have the right tools and knowledge, but I wouldn't recommend an amateur at soldering to attempt it. I needed to use a LOT of heat for very short periods of time. With the wrong tip, too much heat, or prolonged contact it's EXTREMELY easy to damage the motherboard.
Next time I'm inside the Edge (to pack the back of the heat-plates with smaller heatsinks) I'll snap a picture of the repair, it's fairly obvious which mounts I worked on.
This could all have been avoided if Razer used a proper through-hole mount coming through the other side of the motherboard.

Hey Everyone,
I just got an Edge Pro off eBay and the thing seems practically useless. Any time it does anything that pulls even the slightest bit of juice, it seems to slow to a sputter and crash. Was this a common occurrence with these tablets? Anything I can do to repair it? I hate cold posting onto a community with my problems, but it's killing me that this thing might be a lemon. -
the heat sink may be clogged with dust - open it up and check for a dust clump between the fan and inside edge of the heat sink (VERY common problem I encounter)
the previous owner may have removed or disturbed the old thermal paste - remove the cooling assembly, clean off the old thermal paste with 99% pure isopropyl alcohol and apply new thermal paste, even removing the cooler without applying new thermal paste renders the old stuff useless if it has cured and dried
the fan may be seized or unplugged - check if the fan is spinning, and kicking hot air out the right air vent, if it's not see what's wrong with the fan
your heat plate, heat sink, heat pipe (cooling assembly) may have broken free from the board like this unfortunate Edge owner and myself - pop the back off, see if all of your cooling assembly anchors are still on the board, if you can push any screw point down with your fingers and it moves, it's come loose, it's repairable but you need someone with some soldering skills
If it's not cooling related, you may have bad RAM, or a bad SSD. The SSD you can easily check for free with CrystalDiskInfo. The RAM you can check with Memtest, most Ubuntu install disks (including bootable flash drives include a version of Memtest86+). To boot a non Windows 8 flash drive, you have to enter the bios and disable Secure Boot in the Boot menu. Then you can either set the flash drive as the first device to boot to, or manually tell the system to boot from the flash drive I doubt it's the SSD or RAM by the way you describe the problem, more likely thermal. Let us know what your findings are!Last edited: Jul 22, 2015 -
Double post, I know I'm a jerk, but this is worth it.
Today I got WiDi working on Windows 8.1!
I'm using an Intel AC7260.HMWWB.R WiFi card with a Netgear PTV3000 Miracast/WIDI receiver.
Intel HD Graphics Driver 15.33.36.64.4226
Intel Pro Set Wireless/BT Driver 17.16.0
nVidia Graphics Driver 353.30
Intel Widi Update Tool reports that the WiDi system software is up to date, I couldn't find a version number.
I never installed the Razer supplied Intel HD graphics driver or nVidia Geforce drivers after upgrading to Windows 8.1. I used the official versions offered directly from Intel and nVidia from their respective websites.
Of course this doesn't work flawlessly. I am able to stream 1080p video and audio with extremely minimal lag. Enough to play casual games but not serious games. More importantly I am able to play games using the nVidia GPU! With each game set to use the nVidia card; I played a bit of Windward, Super Meat Boy and Spartan Assault, the lag is minimal enough hey all play well. Wireless display only mode, and extended desktop mode both work.
Now the flaws. the virtual audio device is only stereo, I haven't found a way to set it to 5.1 or 7.1. Mirror desktop mode does NOT work, it just disconnects the device entirely. To use extended mode properly, you need to use a mouse or touchpad as you can't control an extended screen with the tablet touchscreen. It's also very difficult to control a standalone WiDi display with the blank tablet screen.
Overall I see the $35 for the Intel AC7260 WiFi card and the $60 for the Netgear PTV3000 receiver a fantastic investment. I can now watch video on my TV from my tablet without spending $600+ for a keyboard dock. If the prices seem a bit inflated it's because they are, the Canadian dollar sucks right now.
I hope someone finds this useful, even if it's more than 2 years since the tablet was released. Razer Edge Pro DOES support Intel WiDi!Last edited: Jul 23, 2015 -

So I got a notification to update to Windows 10, should I do it? Anyone has done it? Does it conflict with any drivers of the Edge?
-
Anyone know if Final Fantasy Type 0 (coming out for PC) will run on the Razer Edge Pro?
-
Yes there ARE driver issues and i couldnt find a single solution on google. I updated 2 edge's and both experienced the same issue.
The issue: Taskbar, start menu and virtual keyboard hangs and freezes soon after login. And by far more breaking: After logging in, suddenly the keyboard assumes your holding the win key making any form of keyboard use impossible!
solution that worked on both machines:
on another computer create a new text doc and type msconfig.exe then save it.
copy the file to the edge however you want (i used a flash drive)
***note, the taskbar may freeze at any point from here on and you need to hold the power button to reboot***
double tap the text file to open
long tap to right click > select all
long tap to right click > copy
then open virtual keyboard or using external keyboard and press 'r' which opens the run dialogue (win+r=run)
long tap to right click > paste
run
select startup tab
select open task manager
select startup tab
find and highlight 'razer display switch'
hit disable
then close and restartLast edited: Jul 30, 2015 -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Guys i dont know why for some works and for some dont, but stay away from win10. I lost my edge doing the upgrade as it freezes on login screen.
Searching the web it seems that all laptops powered by GT640M chipset have this issue.
Stay away from it, dont say i didnt warned you. Proceed at your risk, even because the boot button combo is hit and miss and it doesnt work at all.
Im so pissed about this. -
My edge has been stable for 24 hours now. Even getting higher frame rates on 1 game I've tried so far. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
No its not easy to fix, when on booting the first time it freezes. It doesnt work even in safe mode, so if you have a way to do that in all ears.
-
b) hardware recovery access via button presses shouldnt be affected at all by OS hence it's existence.
c) i cant provide too much more without access to it myself and my tools but i was also able to boot onto linux and then boot into bios where i was able to disable fast boot -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Maybe is something related to my edge not being a "pro" version? Maybe the GTX640m with 2GB in the Pro is that different from the 1GB version in the normal Edge?
On clean install Win10 doesnt search for updated drivers, it does a clean install and then tried to login, so i suspect the stock MS drivers are causing the issue. But not being possible to login even in safe mode keeps me from upgrading them, and this sucks.
I may have found a way to boot to other peripheral to restore windows 8.1, and probably i will stick to it, but still i cant upgrade to win10. -

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Nope, nothing to do anymore. My Edge now is a beatiful brick. And the fact that i live in europe now doesn't make me elegible for a razer recovery stick.
I feel so sad that i don't have words about it. And Razer didnt even warned the Edge users about this issue.
What i tried so far:
- Install win 10 thru update (fails)
- Install win 10 using the official tool (fails)
- Create a working USB drive with Windows 8.1 using Win7USBTool (fails, doesn't boot to it, hangs at black screen)
- Create a working USB drive with Windows 8.1 using Rufus (fails, boot hangs)
- I'm unable to select the boot device using the combo buttons, no matter how many times i tried (fails)
- I've tried to install onto anther external usb, and the setup doesnt let me install on an usb drive (fails)
- I've tried to use UEFI bios settings to exclude some peripherals for booting straight to USB dirve (fails)
Razer doesn't even answer to my support request. Such a shame of a big company that proved to be next to customers, well done Razer.
So keep away from Win10. It's an hit and miss, for some it works for some others don't.
And now i lost my tablet because i cant boot to Windows8.1 usb drive. So cool. -
First have you tried the option in win 10 advance boot to undo upgrade?
2nd I uploaded a direct razer restore stick copy a few pages here back, with that you can make a "razer" restore drive. Use that for recovery not generic images. This might be why button combo failing
3rd You can boot off usb by removing the msata ssd. I booted recovery and Ubuntu this way (long live upside down screen) -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Finally, i was able to go back to Win8.1. All i had to do is use the mediacreationtool from microsoft, very similar to the Win10 one, but for the right edition of Windows. Then i used my legit key in the back of the Edge to get it back to install.
So there's a way to go back if anyone wants to test Win10. I feel relieved now. -

And sorry about the dl speed on that, I seeded it for several days and at least 30 ppl downloaded it. Sad that so few seeded. I tied up my entire upload bandwidth for several days on that -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
No worries, thanks for putting up the recovery stick. I think that spitting it in 2gb files using winrar and uploading it on mega or uploaded will make things easier, just sayin. Mega has a good web interface for this.

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Ok a little update: after restoring back to win8.1 i did had the notifications of free upgrade to windows 10 straight from the installation steps pre-desktop. I took the bite and said yes and moved to boot to win 8.1 and configure it as always.
After the update was ready ive launched it and let the update go, and this time god knows why it worked without issues.
I didnt even had the problems described above.
So either they changed something during the searching for updates phase or im clueless about it.
Either way now the edge is rocking Win10. -
-
I to am having similar problems with win10 as Kingpinzero. Am presently trying to fix and sure would love that recovery image. trying to use torrent link but no action. Bmayne81 are you still going to upload?
-
-
I really appreciate that, are you windows 10 yet?

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
The trick is to use the Win8.1 media creation tool, boot to usb and let install a fresh copy of 8.1, activate with ur key. Then as soon as the upgrade to win10 has finished download, boot it up and let it update.
Works like a charm.
This is the link to the tool, just use a spare usb drive: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=510815 -
On my Edge Pro Windows 10 refuses to work... installed it from USB, ISO, and also update...
After installation, when I insert my password it hangs after login...
In any case i re-installed Windows 8.1 using Rufus. Works perfect -
I did receive a fresh recovery drive directly from Razer and I immediately cloned it before doing anything to it (with Win32 Disk Imager). Unfortunately it's the original Windows 8, not 8.1.Windows 8.1 still takes many hours to update to.
If anyone wants, I can upload that image so you can boot directly from the flash drive without having to go through Windows settings to reboot into recovery mode.
You don't need to pull your SSD to change the boot order or disable secure boot. If you boot into the EFI (bios) instead of selecting a boot device (by using Volume Up instead of Volume Down ) when loading into the boot selection menu. Of course if your bootloader on your SSD is shot, you will have to pull it to do this.
Hopefully we can assemble a complete list of fixes for Windows 10 so people have an easier time with the upgrade. I wont be doing it until I get a replacement SSD. -
