Well i thought as much, probably with a win8 razer base+update to 8.1+update to win10 isnt a smart thing to perform updates :D

I'm loving it so far. Works great and everything out of the box. Only thing i havent installed is the sensor hub driver as it seems to create some conflicts. But sensors work fine anyway, so i'm cool with it.

yea when i upgraded my edge was mostly virgin. I'd only installed a few programs (vlc, rocket dock, firefox and utorrent) plus games (steam, origin, uplay). So when I had the issue initially I had only a few things to wade through to find the problem. When I noticed the keyboard worked fine on the login screen and only screwed up after, I immediately realised it was software that was autostarting on login and checked the startup programs first.

First thing I did was disabled everything I normally disabled on all my PCs and rebooted, didnt fix it. Then I disabled everything from razer and fixed it. Then I rechecked the razer things 1 by 1 till I discovered the culprit was that stupid autorotate sensor.

I dont miss it 1 bit, most the time the first thing I did on boot was hit that button and turn autorotate off lolol.

thanks kingpin. worked great for me too. i sent razer an email asking about possibly updating the display switch driver and got this in reply,

Sorry, as Razer is not supporting Windows 10 on the Edge.

Thats to be expected, but that doesn't bother. Using the method described above all works good, thats the best part. Switching to preferred gpu is still available from right click though.

i am attempting to add a Samsung 840 Evo 1 TB SSD to my Edge.

At first I tried to clone the disk but Disk Management only recognizes 416 MB as the capacity on the SSD, on multiple PCs and on the Edge.

So I thought I would just install the SSD and try to use the Razer recovery media but I can't remember how to boot from USB. Any help or guidance on these issues would be most appreciated.

Update: All is well, it was a faulty hard drive. I returned the SSD to Microcenter and a guy there told me that it had been returned several times for the same issue. Apparently the way their tech guys test it didn't uncover any issues. Grumble, grumble.

At any rate I have the 1 TB SSD, 12 GB of RAM and a 7260 wifi card now. :)

lol i had exact same issue and my mobo burned after that, opened just to see my heatsink elevated from mobi. Staying away from Razer from now on, qc is low as hell. First it stopped shutting down, then main battery connection died and final fatality move was completely burning and dying ahaha horrible experience and i paid 1500 for this facepalm

Hey guys! I have been following this thread from the beginning and you have all saved my ass more than once! Sadly the time has come to part with my razer edge and accessories. I want you all to know because many of you are good at modding. I am selling my razer edge w/ hdmi dock and extras on eBay, as well as a repairable official keyboard dock. The dock needs a new ribbon cable for the external battery and keyboard functions. Thank you all so much for the help over the past 2 years!! I hope someone here finds my stuff as useful as I did!!

I had an Edge at launch and sold it, but I bought another one last month and I'm loving it. This thing is fantastic to play on the go. GTA V, NBA 2K, Sim City 4, PES, various emulators, etc.

I bought a dock but I usually just play on the Edge itself. I would love to get a keyboard just to have a carrying case with the extra battery (the gamepad doesn't interest me at all). I upgraded the RAM to 12GB, the SSD to 1 TB, and the Wifi card.

Is anyone playing the new Mad Max game on it? Just curious how it runs on the Edge.

FYI, if you already have a powerhouse pc at home as well as the edge, then if you havent already checked out Moonlight then you should. It uses the Nvidia gamestream to let you play any of your games anywhere in the world.

I wanted to ask if anyone has upgraded to Windows 10 on this laptop.

i remember there being some major driver releases for it when it went from 8 to 8.1 so i am avoiding it until I have confirmation it is working 100%...

I know this is a real longshot but if anyone ever has a keyboard dock that they want to part with, please let me know.

I am aware of the complaints about it, but for me, it would be worth it to have it as a carrying case as well as the extra battery.

For anyone looking, I'm having to part with my edge due to bills.

It's up on evilbay, has three months left on its microsoft complete care warranty, and comes with fully functional official keyboard dock, gamepad, and two additional batteries.

I also upgraded the wireless chip, and have a screen protector and black carbon fiber skin skinomi skin installed.

That was my fault actually. I saw the original listing and emailed elussya to let him know that parting it is a much better option.

Just in the last two months alone, I bought two Razer Edge lots and by parting them out was able to get an Edge Pro and Keyboard Dock for free!

How do you like the keyboard dock? I've heard it really sucks but I just want a case that has the extra battery.

Also, do you use a screen protector with it? I hate screen protectors but i dont want the keys to scratch the screen.

I had a screen protector on it. I also had a body skin on it to protect it. I doubt it's needed if you keep it in the keyboard case to be honest, but I liked the glare reduction provided personally.

I love my Keyboard Dock! I think it makes the Razer Edge into the 2 in 1 it was meant to be. I use mine for use as a regular gaming laptop/pc and then disconnect the tablet for use as a portable gaming powerhouse.

Are there any cases available out there to purchase for the Edge? Looking for a "smart case" or some sort of folio that'll prop up the Edge so I can use a Bluetooth keyboard with it. Thanks!

Untitled drawing.png My cpu hits temps of 88-92 under load (games) and cpu gets throttled to 2200 or less...i opened it up and noticed the screws holding the right side heatsink were loose from the mobo ( the furthest heatpipe on the right from the fan)...i fixed that but only noticed a drop to about 85 under load....any ideas??
by the looks of it if i want to take off the heatsink to apply thermal poaste i have to un solder the heat pip[e from above the fan

I was able to solder back down the 2 of mine that were dislodged and lost about 20C in the process. Just removing the 8 screws to apply fresh thermal paste is enough to knock them loose again if you're not careful. Don't try de-soldering the heat pipe from the plate. You risk damaging the pipe and releasing its nitrogen charge. If I ever completely disassemble my edge, I will likely find a way to change the mounts to a through hole style instead of the crappy soldered-on-top design Razer used. Keep in mind, just forcing the mounts back into their holes will not lock them back info place. They have to be glued or soldered back down to stay put. Also no, the heatsink is not screwed down, you just have to remove the fan to remove the cooling assembly.

90C under load isn't completely unusual, there isn't much cooling for the amount of hardware inside an Edge. Some people use their Edge with the back removed for more airflow when using it on a dock or in the gaming dock.

I managed to pack a handful of very small VGA RAM heatsinks to the back of the heat-plates on my Edge and did notice a small temperature reduction. It's very hard to position them as the backplate interferes with their placement a lot.

thanks for the reply...i used super glue for the 2mounts and its gone down to about 85-88 ish sometimes hitting 90+ but not often...
so i can un screw both heatsinks and the heat pipes come off? i would like to apply thermal paste but if my temps are normal then maybe not worth it...i wqant to sell it soon and put the funds into a desktop gaming system....i think i can get 300$ for my edge??..(normal edge not pro 64 gb)
    thanks!!

If you remove the led light board (1 screw, 1 clip), remove the fan (2 screws), then remove all 8 retention screws on the cooler, yes the entire assembly comes right out. Check ebay completed auctions for a rough estimate kn your price. $300 seems low to me.

It also helps if you have a lot of Edge accessories, keyboard dock (one just sold on ebay for $600), docking station which can sell on ebay for over $500, and even the game controller sell for a lot. If I had the cash I would pay the $300 asking price for a non pro Edge.

For anyone interested, this is an Edge on ebay in the US with charger, gamepad controller and spare external battery.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/262138502517
I think it's a bit expensive, but if anyone is shopping for one, heres your chance.

After using a PS3 controller on the bus with my own Edge I can see how useful the gamepad controller would be now, despite it's added bulk and weight.

Damn, very cool. Unfortunately I just bought a Fallout 4 Pip Boy (not quite as powerful as an Edge) and the Canadian dollar plus the cost of shipping makes that prohibitively expensive for me. Good luck on the sale though.
