I believe the revision will probably happen in the fall of this year. Right now, they cannot keep up with demand for the R1 since both the 128gb and 256gb are still backordered. I won't even mention the availability of the accessories. As far as price, they really have no reason to drop it right now since they're still the only people in town that's offering a high powered gaming tablet for only $999.

I believe we will see a new model when Haswell dual cores are actually available.

From everything i have seen right now they will not be available till later this year ?.

Razer would not bother putting in a newer 740m lets say without also updating to haswell CPUs at the same time.

I know some of the new Razer blade owners are freaking out about the new machine that is coming. Cant blame them for that kind of coin.

Yea I know. My Blade R1 is less than a year old and it's already 2 generations behind. It doesn't bother me much since I got it really cheap but it really sucks for the people that paid full price. I've already spent over 2k for my edge and accessories so I will be pissed if they announce a new model within the next 2 to 3 months.

Yeah that is crazy money already.

I have half of what you have invested with the controller so i will not freak out if they do announce a new model plus i could care less because i have tested so many games it would make your head spin and i am still thorougly impressed by the performance of mine which is all that matters to me. People expecting 60plus frames on ultra need look elsewhere but yeah performance has been great on everything and just a joy to play.

Kicking back with the controller attached to the screen to me is just something everyone needs to experience if they are a PC gamer.

I have been playing so many PC games since i got the Edge its not even funny. Having owned so many gaming laptops i never put this kind of time into like the Edge has gotten from me means they succeeded in giving me what i always dreamed of owning for years.

I highly doubt they're going to refresh the Edge Pro when it just came out a few months ago.

Also, they aren't going to announce a new version of the Edge when they just released a new Blade Pro they wanna push. They're trying to gin up hype about their new blade, it's not in their interest to refresh the Edge right now...especially since the target market for the Edge and Blade Pro are probably very similar.

They refresh the edge when they have competition in the tablet market so far I see none. Plus by that time we all figured out how to install that 2nd ram slot for 16gb of ram and 500+ ssd muhahaha

Ask the company to maybe send you a picture of what the charging port looks like since there is not the correct one but honestly i have always shied away from third party chargers for a myriad of reasons .

Since there has been no new stock of 256gb or 128gb Edges since well forever i have a strange feeling we might be seeing a refresh sooner then anticipated.

This whole lack of stock on everything and now including the tablets all points to refresh of some sort IMHO. I was not thinking that too much till i saw Razer's other new refreshes that everyone was expecting to come much later in the year then they did.

It seems whether Razer feels they have competition they refresh now maybe based on part availability from Nvidia and Intel.

That makes sense in a way but if that's the case, I wonder why they decided to launch in March when they could have just waited 3 more months to launch with Haswell.

Hey guys, to owners of Razer Blade in the U.S.A that bought their laptops directly from Razer website and not any reseller like Amazon, did they charge sales tax?

thanks for the heads up...oddly, i never got an email notification from razer saying they were in stock.

on a side note. (and sorry for the caps) I POSITIVELY HATE! DIGITAL RIVER!

they have to be the worst payment processing place in existance. i have had more issues trying to purchase from places that use DRI than is reasonable. Razer uses them as does EA's online shop (origin and web shop) so just a heads up to anyone who tries ordering via razer and gets a payment authorization failed message at the end. if you have the funds, 9/10 times its DRI being a horrible company. i finally emailed them a while back because after having so many issues ordering the blade, i finally was able to figure it out after having similar issues with origin purchases. they never really told me what they did other than a canned message of 'we recently made a few minor changes in the system in regards to your information' which allowed me to purchase from home again, as well as from my cellphone. however i still cannot order from work which makes me think that they filter ip blocks.

anyway enough of my rant, i finally was able to put my order through.

Nice we have a Razer subforum

I ordered my gamepad from a trusted seller but it took too long so I cancelled the order and when I saw the gamepad was in stock at Razer placed an order with overnight shipping it arrived yesterday OMG is so huge beautiful and well constructed my idea was that the gamepad was not worth the price they charge but I was wrong

The gamepad makes the machine run a few degrees hotter because the extra layer of plastic trapping the air but luckily Quad and me found the solution to make the machine run 8c cooler and make it lighter in one shot

also the power cable was always on my way while gaming so introducing the cable from back to front on that right side hole of the controller and then plug it on the power port solved the problem

it's been so long since I didn't feel this sensation of playing a game and feel immersed this device has something special that makes that possible not even my GTX Titan and 27" IPS monitor compete with this experience. :)

What's the trick to making it run cooler? I'll have my gamepad tomorrow and I will be using the extended battery if that makes any difference.

Also, what app are you guys using to map the controller to non xbox controller games?

Yep. For everything but preorders apparently. However even the Paypal payments are done via digital river and are prone to the payment authentication failed error.

Hey guys ...so i finally sold my MBP :) Now i am in the market for a ultra portable while my M18x will continue to be my desktop :D .....anyway what do you guys have to say about the edge after putting in a few weeks of use...also ..if i dont have a lot of funds at the moment do you think its better to get the 64 gb version ...and then do the upgrade yourself....Finally i know about the gaming potential of this tablet ...but i am more interested in figuring out ...how is everyone using this as a laptop replacement ..since i need something i can sit on a couch and use at times .....but without the keyboard dock yet ...i dont think thats possible ...anybody with any suggestions or pictures of there setup would be nice ....Thanks again

I'm loving my Edge right now. It was just 'OK' when I first got it because I was turned off by the thickness. It was a magical moment when I finally got the gamepad though. I haven't had that feeling since getting the original Ipad back in 2009. There's something special about playing Tomb Raider while laying on the couch and then going to the toilet ( TMI I know) without even pausing the game. No other device out can compete with that.

I have heard of a few people doing the 64gb upgrade but I just went ahead and bought the 256gb model. I did upgrade the wireless card and I would advise you to do the same. I don't know how well the keyboard dock will work when it comes out. I know the Samsung 700t is roughly 2 pounds and is somewhat top heavy. I'd imagine that Razer will have similar problems with their dock. You may just have to settle for tablet mode when using it in your lap.

yeah the gamepad truly is magical. i'm curious to see what the edge 2 might look like next year sometime. haswell no doubt and better battery. also betting on thinness. and finally maybe Geforce 750LE, something faster than haswell integrated I'm sure. All in a thinner package... Would be my bet for 2 or even 1 quarter 2014.

Most tablet stands work just fine for it . I use this and recommended it to Speedy else who loves it . Mine stays in the controller 99.999% of the time but if not it will be on this. It was $80 when it came out so it is very nice quality and for this price its a no brainer plus you can use it for all your tablets . It spins, swivels, tilts you name it and it can do it so its beyond versatile depending on your needs. The scissor like feet adjust to all kinds of sizes.

The tablet stand needs to have enough clearance on the bottom to allow the charging cable to be plugged in.

The amazon stand works ok but it does put a little pressure on the ac cable, which is loose as it is.

Words cant really do it justice and its something both Speedy and i have been waiting years for . We went on and on for years now someone should make something like this and now that its here i never leave mine alone which speaks volumes about the final product. Forget the specs because if you look at it from that perspective you might as well not even buy it quite frankly, but playing games is just a whole nother experience that cannot be matched at least to myself.

I will still keep looking at all the new machines coming out but at the end of the day none of them are going to give me the amount of joy i get when i grab the Edge and start playing that is why i am sitting out of all the new machines this year even if its just to try them i really am not interested since its just another Laptop and something i have experienced umpteen times before.

Cost is not cheap though especially if you go crazy like some have and buy the top end and all the accessories so i know its tough decision because of what other hardware you can buy with that money.

My suggestion to anyone wanting to buy one is try to get it from Amazon or Bestbuy or just anywhere with a good return policy so you can be 100% its something you will want to keep.

    Good luck

Yep, the controller is great. BTW, I am trying both Pinnacle and JoyToKey for mapping stuff like ME3. Does razer have any kind of gamepad profiler? Anyone have a better one? I also tried Xpadder 5.3 (last free version) and that didn't work (and I used compatibility, but it still only let me read the device sometimes, but didn't most of the time).

And I like to take it to the toilet too :) I still wish they would have a direct input virtual touchpad though. I mean taking it to the toilet at work with the controller attached, how obvious would that be? I would like to see a direct x overlay keyboard and touchpad, but the keys would have to be translucent and where you could adjust the opacity of the overlay. MS need to do this for Windows 8.

Does anyone have any keyboard suggestions? Prefably one with a touchpad. I tried the logitech dinovo, but, this thing sucks because you can't disable tap-to-click (tried everything too). Right now, I am using a logitech k400, wish it was bluetooth though, takes up the USB port. I think I am just going to go for the MS wedge KB and mouse.

I also got the Mushkin 480gb mSata, but that didn't work out so well. First off, it is just a lil thicker, such that you have to foce the cover back on. Although, it would actually work with Speedy's cooling fix ;) Then came the installation part. First, I took my 128GB Toshiba out (the one that came with the Edge) and put it in my m18x mSata slot. Then I got the Easus free imaging software (can someone recommend somthing better?) and backed it up (backed up the whole Disk and not just partitions). Next, I took it out then stuck in the Mushkin 480GB. Then, I did a restore with Easus, and it let me resize the main parition too, so I did to take up the rest of the space. Then I did the restore. After it was done, all looked well, except that on the m18x, it assigned drive letters to the the two NTFS partitions (A: to the main one, and Y: to the recovery one). I did change the A: to a D: (which is what the Toshiba showed) and just left the Y: alone (didn't see a way to unassign drive letter anyway). I mean what I want is to make it match the source as much as possible. I wish the software would duplicate all this stuff too. I didn't see any way to mark any of them as active also. When I put the Mushkin into the Edge, it didn't boot, but had a weird light blue screen saying a device was missing and that I could press ESC to boot into the BIOS. The BIOS showed the Mushkin 480, so I am unsure what the issue was. But I am guessing that my ghosting job missed something. Also, are there any tricks to this GPR partition type vs MBR? Plus, from the Easus software, you can see the EDHI (did I get that acronym right?) BIOS, so I am guessing the BIOS is stored on the mSata. I think this copied because I was able to get into the BIOS setup screen on the Mushkin or I thinking this wrong?

I use it on the desk with one of those cheap $10 tripod thingies. Works great. Amazon.com: Arkon Portable Fold-Up Stand for Apple iPad, Galaxy Tab, Kindle Fire, Playbook, Xoom, Toshiba, Acer, Nook and Other Tablets (IPM-TAB1): Computers & Accessories

Words can not describe how immersed I feel playing PC games in a handheld form factor device when I am playing and smiling all I can think of is how can be people missing this ? how can I show to them ?
but is no way until you experience it yourself.

Ok for all those Hardcore Gamers" who are willing to sacrifice tablet mode for 10c lower temps here is the trick

1= remove the tablet back cover
2= insert the tablet in the controller
3= for those who don't have extended battery remove the fake battery cover from the controller
4= Play your games and don't worry about your GPU hitting 83C

cons = you cant use it as a tablet since is naked

Pros = is way lighter, runs 10C cooler, better wi-fi reception.

Try acronis true image they have a 30 day free trial backup your toshiba partitions on the M18x and then restore that to your Mushkin

Maybe with edge 2 having haswell, I think it's only a good 30 min hardcore gaming. We need thicker battery, ill be happy with my edge for a good 2-3 yrs by that time we would have figured out every updgrade on this tablet.

No fan, just the controller and removing the back cover. Since i leave mine in the controller all the time i could care less because of the massive temp reduction and the weight reduction.

Its a win win for both those reasons.

2 screws to remove the back cover so it can be taken on and off when ever you might feel the need to toss it back on for a day etc. My suggestion since Speedy came up with this idea is take the 2 screws for the cover and screw them back into the cover after you have taken it off so you dont lose them since they have the threaded holes built in to the cover itself.

Man I wish the gamepad was cheaper I would have cut out holes where the razer symbol was and screw on a thin fan and left the edge in naked mode with the fan-gamepad mod.

We actually thought all about that including removing the center section of the gamepad entirely so its more like the original Project Fiona concept but the wires for the controls are strewn across from one handle to the other so becareful where you start punching holes on a $250 controller..

Speedy and i talk on the phone a little too much so we have thought of some ridiculous ideas you would seriously laugh at :D.
