Hey Woodzstack, did You hear about putting 1060 or 1070 in to first Clevo P775DM1? I've got 980m but i think 1060 should have better fan noise emissions or 1070 for better performance. What do You think?

 

yeah both would be more powerful that is no doubt. The 1060 would provide like 25% performance boost minimum, and require less over all power, this would keep temps lower, if that is what you are looking for.

What resolution screen you using ? What is the constraint other than noise/fan speed, like the 1070 for instance is much more powerful than the 1060 buts a premium, and sometimes is just overkill unless you do some tricks or use higher resolution screen or playing absolute latest games.

 

I have FullHD on P775DM1 but i often hook up to 4K TV so I would prefer 1070 but I didnt see if someone successfully put it on first P775 witch was dedicated to 980M/980 desktop. If 1070 is incompatible I thought about 1060 to gain lower temps and fan noise relative to 980M (see my signature below)

Is the version of MSI 1060 fits to clevo? (P775DM1) I heard that Clevo has EC and its problem for some of the cards.

I actually once heard that too, but it was before the final versions of the cards were released, and was with an older vbios. For instance the QS versions of those cards hard a wire to skip EC checks soldered to the cards, but later they didn't need them.

So hard to say. I'm still learning some of the ropes with Clevo's, I have a few systems myself, but I do not run into any EC issues but haven't tested this card from MSI in it personally, been testing them in Alienwares most the time TBH

 

Just finished purchasing a Eurocom sky mx5 r2 from @woodzstack ! Absolutely recommend 100%! This guy is a pro, and if you live in Canada, I dare say there's probably no reason not to go with this guy to get your unit upgraded through him. Highly recommend 10/10, would repeat business again. You'd be surprised how so many do not know that the cards are already flashed properly for the customer. Try as best I can to be plug and play, you know.

Recently upgraded a 680M to 970M and the difference is night and day Woodz card work right out of the box, no vbios modding or anything necesarry ... (Apart from flashing to Raidiars version of Swicks modded BIOS prior to installing the card

I just upgraded my Alienware M18x R2 from 780m to 1060. Woodz card was extremely amazingly packaged. It had anything I needed to put it and more. Definitely recommend it to anyone, the buy was super easy and without any issue. The shipping was ridiculously fast, I didn't even realized that it arrived until a day after.

Not every unsupported after market upgrade is simple or easy, haha, but we got it to work and put in the time and reap what we sow !

I didn't buy anything atm from woodzstack, but him help me a lot explaining me stuff and helping me understand a 7970m i found on ebay was probable a good deal, and instead of try to keep me to buy something from him, told me the best choice for me was buy the gpu i found on ebay because had a very good price.

So, woodzstack seems a really good man and someone who help you and care about your best choice, not about his return.

i will definitely in future if and when i will need buy a laptop from him!!!

He was very patient with my Tornado F5 order as I made several last minute changes with the configuration.
He also have excellent after sales support and would reply to my inquiries quickly despite the time difference. (i live in Singapore)

I would never hesitate buying from him. Highly recommended!

I don't have Facebook and don't do twitter, I hope this gets to you.
I may have borked my motherboard, Alienware 17 ranger, September 2013. I tried overclocking the cpu for some stupid reason. The intel extreme tuning utility blew the bios out somehow. It has the i7-4700mq if it makes a difference.
Apparently the only way to get the bios to repost is to remove the cpu to try and force the bios to post again.
If that doesn't work, I was considering replacing the motherboard rather than getting a different laptop. I really like this thing.

If I do get it to boot up again, I would like to consider a video card upgrade. It has the gtx 765m which even heavily overclocked is showing its age.
From what I understand the gtx mobile cards up to the 980 drop right in. I saw the msi 1060's may fit as well.
If I am in the wrong place, I'd very much appreciate a link or something for the right place.
