I bought my card on ebay from upgradeyourlaptop a.k.a Eurocom. Their ebay page states that DVI will work, which makes this issue that much more frustrating. Unfortunately, I don't have another card to test with and would also like to get some more info before I even consider doing something like reflashing the card (probably would void any sort of warranty I have).

At this point, any help/suggestions is appreciated.

what u could do is the following: use gpu-z to make a backup of ur current vbios and then flash the vbios i provided in the OP using the autoexec.bat. if dvi still doesnt work u can then flash back the stock vbios for warranty purposes :)

I ran your batch file which worked perfectly. It looks like the reflash fixed the dvi out issue. Hopefully I don't run into any issues but for now all I can say is Thank you! The information I have obtained from this forum has been awesome. Keep up the good work!

P.S. This is the 2nd card that I had with the dvi issue. Perhaps this latest batch is shipping with an incompatible vbios from this vendor. Happy Trails all.

The difference is quite a lot (around USD 100..).

And the vbios you have in this thread is for clevo right?
after I dig an old thread, I found this http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/659226-7970m-heatsink-modification-25.html
A guy flashed his MSI 7970M to a Dell VBIOS to get it working in his laptop.
This vbios thing is really confused me :(

I forgot to mention that I have an MSI Barebone laptop (1761) :)

    Hi,

I think I tried the hdmi once and it didn't work. :(

    The vbios version is

    * I opened up the rom file with notepad and are the only parts I can make out.

for p170hm users it always is, im afraid. although u should be fine, since uve already got a 6970m installed IIRC. any other p170hm users feel free to correct me, if im wrong!

there definitely are resellers in the uk offering to sell individual hardware parts, just check the clevo resellers in the EU-thread here in the clevo section :)
aside from those, theres always the nbr marketplace here and also the possibility of purchasing one on ebay (through upgrademonkey, for example).

    cheers

Would it be possible to flash both cards in a Crossfire-System at same time or must 1 card be removed and flashed single wise?

i would do it one by one, just in case the vbios isnt compatible, so u can still use the functioning master card to reflash the nonfunctioning slave card :)

Yes I would just insert it as the second card each time, means you dont have to disturb the primary one, you don't need to plug in the crossfire connector either.

    Hello
I am Rajat Dixit from Vancouver, Canada
I was wondering if this BIOS is gunna work for the CLEVO card in an ASUS G73jh.
I will buy this card from
Laptop Video Cards :: ATI HD 7970M 2GB Mobile Video Card - R&J Technology, Clevo Barebone Notebook kits, Laptop and desktop system builder

I will make the necessary modifications so that the card sits in perfectly and the VRAMS are cooled.
Just wanted to make sure if I need to edit the BIOS because I will be installing it in an ASUS
    Currently I have a 5870m with an i7-740qm.

Thank you for your time :)

hello Rajat, nice of u to drop by here ;)

generally, it is possible to use this modified vbios in other brand machines. msi and alienwares have already been demonstrated to work flawlessly with it, although im not sure if anyone has tried it with an asus laptop before :)

HI just got my 7970m from RJtech. Installed card, turned on, no windows sound and just the yellow bluetooth light and power light. Havent tried anything with flashing yet as to not void warranty. Stickers read: AMD WIMBLEDON V1.1 2G VBIOS:015.024.000.001 6-77-P15EL-D11-4 APR-'13 I have p170hm w/ hannstar screen. So what should I do?

ask a fellow nbr member to provide u with the stock 7970m EM vbios. then flash the modded HM vbios, see if that helps. if not, u can still flash back to the stock vbios and rma the card as doa ;)

@ jaybee used your guide a while back for reflashing the card (tried to get hdmi to work with tberts vbios - no luck there) and noticed that there's an error in your autoexec.bat file

you need to remove the "C:\" from the beginning of the autoexec string or it won't do anything ;)

that is quite weird, since lots of users have already used that autoexec.bat file with success in order to flash their cards :) why would u deem it necessary to remove the "C:\"?

well, perhaps it's just my laptop :D

But when I put in the original autoexec file that you provided the flash just didn't start. I waited for roughly 10 minutes but nothing happened.

    Command line looked like this:
    "C:\ C:\atiflash.exe -p 0 -fs -fp -reboot 7970M.rom"
    (without quotation marks)

Then I rebooted into windows, removed the C:\ from the beginning of the autoexec file and retried. Flashing started in about 5 seconds. But I'm not expert on using autoexec so maybe someone with more experience can provide input on this.

update comes a bit late, but better than never :p

anyways, the autoexec.bat im offering on box does not include a second "C:\" part. where exactly did u get ur version of the .bat file???

Hehe, I'm sorry I didn't mean that the file itself would contain a second"c:\". I just meant that in the command line view (each line begins with c:\) there's two of them visible. But on the other hand I just tested a similar approach in Command Prompt and it should wok fine. So quite honestly I don't know why it didn't work for me without removing the "c:\" from the beginning - maybe it was just over 10 minutes slower to start? :p

As to why it's possible to remove the "c:\" from the beginning is because the path will be in the root of c when you boot from the usb stick's dos.

Hi jaybee83, I noticed you'r like the godfather of this forum... lol I really hope you can shed some light on my problem.
I recently purchased a 7970m kit for my for my Clevo W880CU aka Cheetah 2.0 by Eurocom. currently running a 480m gtx , i7 740qm. ( yes I know its like stone age ) My question is simple. Will this modded vbios work for my system?

    * Yes I'm noobyish but I cant tell if I have a HM or PM system,
    * When the 7970m is installed theres only blank screen bt i can hear windows startup.

Please help, I dont want to brick up my Gpu.

    hey buddy,

ur system predates the HM series by one generation, but chances are, that the modded vbios will work on ur system. especially considering that ure able to hear windows booting, even tho the screen stays blank :) ive already seen w860cu users having successfully used this modded vbios to install a 7970m into their systems, so my suggestion would be: go ahead! ;) if u have any questions as to the procedure, just shoot. i recommend to properly read through the whole first post and use the autoexec.bat file to perform the flash.

    cheers

hey guys ive tried countless times to flash the vbios for a 7970m card i purchased from upgradeyourlaptop for my m15x. i have removed the old video drivers, created the bootable usb hard drive, did a dry run (and it booted to dos prompt), and supplied a 240watt power supply and my computer still doesn't restart in post. One thing I noticed is that when i type 16 characters during the blind flash my computer makes a beep sound. So I am guessing it is not in DOS. I am really out of ideas. Please help me out guys thanks!

its recommended to use the autoexec.bat file provided in the first post of this thread, as opposed to the (older) method of manually typing in the flash command necessary for the vbios flash. using that .bat file wont require any manual input from ur side whatsoever, so please make sure to read the WHOLE OP (including all updates) before continuing.

thing is, if its still working on the EM series the vbios flash mustve gone wrong imho. flashing the modded vbios would basically disable enduro/igpu functionality and thus it wouldnt work on the EM anymore (at least thats my theory). have u made sure that ur properly prepared usb stick has first boot priority in ur system bios?

Yea I did a dry run and just used the same stick to update the ec. Just hoping that the card is working like they said. Going to just use a bios programmer.

actually, there is a software method by which u can change the voltage of ur 7970m ;) u basically just have to edit a file contained in the amd driver to change clocks and voltages. cant remember the details off the top of my head, so lemme check and get back to you.

    edit - there u go: http://www.overclock.net/t/941964/afterburner-5870-2d-clocks#post_12400515

instead of the clocks ull just have to look for the respective voltage parts in that xml file :)

u have to try different values. afaik the voltage can only be set in specific increments / to specific values. try playing around with it for a bit, like .95v .925v and so on :)

Got it working! Pretty sure the vbios on the card was missing or corrupt. So in bios screen is it normal for vga adapter to read as 'blank'?

After installing amd driver I restart then get bluescreen. Do I need a specific driver?

hm, thats not a good sign... stable operation without drivers but then complications after gpu driver install usually points to a faulty gpu.... :-/ but cant say for sure yet at this point, lets explore all options first!
