I'm new to the whole "driver" process, as this Sager is the first barebones machine I've ever had...so I'm not sure about a few of these drivers, hopefully somebody can elaborate :)? For the USB 3.0 ports, I have installed the Renesas driver, but what is the firmware for? And what is the Intel 3.0 driver for? Do I need that as well?

    Thanks :)

well u either have renesas or intel usb 3.0 ports, so u can use either driver. my guess is ur ports are by renesas, since u have their drivers installed? do they work properly at 3.0 speeds?
id better ask actually: whats ur sager model? :)

hm, isnt the 9150 supposed to have Intel USB 3.0 ports? :p

well, hook up a usb 3.0 capable external drive and copy a large file like a movie onto it. if the speeds exceed 35MB/s then u can be sure u have everything properly set up ;)

I need help with the 7970m on my Clevo. A couple of weeks ago SW:TOR started having horrible graphical lag which basically rendered the game unplayable; I've tried updating the drivers, downgrading them, 13.1, 13.2 beta, the works, and nothing solves the issue. Customer support keeps telling me it's the card and, well, the 7970m isn't known for being the most stable thing ever, so I have to ask, do you have *any* idea what I could do to fix this?

    Thanks!

either Hwmonitor, msi afterburner, or occt would be good to monitor temps

    EDIT:

MSI Afterburner 2.3.1 in the OP or - Download

Guys i'm in need of some help. I have the basic Realtek RTL8188CE as the WLAN card in my P150EM. I'm running Windows 8 and i have tried multiple drivers.

Everytime i turn off my computer, when i boot it up the Wireless won't work. I will then uninstall the Realtek card from Device Manager, shutdown (reboot won't work), then finally boot again and THEN it will work, but it won't remember any wi-fi password. After this, when i shut down my computer again, the Wireless won't work and I have to do the process again.

The error code given in Device Manager is Error 10: the device can't be found.

    WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Something i've noticed is that when the Wireless does not work, when i press Fn+11 to turn Wireless on it just say it's ON all the time and i can't turn it off. What?

I have, it kinda gave me BSODs. Maybe I am not installing it right, how should I do it?

    1. Uninstall through control panel. Reboot
    2. Remove from device manager. Reboot
    3. Install new driver.

    Is this correct?

I'd love to use them, but none of the 3 acknowledged the existence of the 7970m. Or rather, Afterburner did, but it refused to measure any temperatures, while OCCT and HWM measured temperatures but ignored the 7970m.

    This is becoming ridiculous :(

make sure to activate ur 7970m first by launching any kinda 3D application, i.e. 3dmark or smth like that. only then would a monitoring tool register temps, etc.

best thing to do would be to run a 3d application in the background as jaybee has mentioned or just launch a game and leave it in the background, that works for me.

I must be doing something wrong, because I'm running ME3 and neither application acknowledges the existence of the 7970m. 3dmark doesn't either. HWM shows me a THM0 temperature reading it classifies as "Clevo" which is distinct from the HD4000, the CPU and the hard drive, but that's about it. I have a theory that this THM0 is the 7970m, but I have no way to confirm it -- I've tried googling it but nothing understandable comes up.

ME3 is running at 1920x1080 with shadows and AA, and the switchable graphics menu says it's using the "high performance" card, which I can only assume is the 7970m. It shows no slowdown or glitches and I'm using AMD's 13.1 drivers (the Clevo package inexplicably doesn't work; sometimes it just plain doesn't boot up after I install them, sometimes the computer boots but I get error messages about stuff not executing properly, sometimes the games themselves just don't work. I don't know, I'm none too pleased with that.).

Anyway this THM0 thing reports 80-83 C when idling, 100-102 under load, similar to the CPU itself and vastly above the HD4000 reading.

The load temps are way higher than they should be, but I can't tell if it's really the 7970m or not.

    Help! :(

judging from other laptops that THM0 is in the CPU area, so its no wonder it shows about the same values as the CPU sensor.

and....SAY WHAT??? ur CPU is in the 80s when idling and going up to 100-102C under load? that is in the absolute critical red danger zone my friend. check ur cpu paste job, the heatsink installation and also if ur vents and heatsink fins are free of dust. at those temps ur cpu wont last too long, plus itll throttle significantly in order to save itself from going up in smoke, thus ure losing a lot of performance.

I had my 7970 go up to 102c, just from having it run at all (ie starting dota 2 in high performance and not even joining game) Tried to reinstall the drivers, but the installer will never install the display driver, everything else installs fine. Going to reinstall windows and try again.

Is there anyone with a 7970m p150em running smoothly? Any guide on how to install the drivers, and what drivers to install? How much does bios matter?

I have catalyst 13.1 driver (have had 13.2 beta3) running smoothly on my Clevo P150em with HD7970M on windows 7 64bit ultimate.

    The order:

    1. Install Windows 7
    2. Install all drivers except the VGA and AMD drivers
    3. Restart
    4. Install the Intel VGA driver from Clevo's homepage
    5. Restart
    6. Install the HD7970M 9.1.0.0 driver from Clevo's homepage
    7. Restart
    8. Install the AMD catalyst mobility 13.1 WHQL driver (can be found here)

    This worked for me everytime.

And the difference from the 12.11 beta driver, that clevo has on there homepage, to the 13.1 WHQL driver is noticeable. I scored around 5700 in 3DMark 11 on the 12.11 beta and on 13.1 i score over 6500 :)

    I'm using windows 8 though.

Installed everything, and it was working fine. Messed around with drivers, checked afterburner and my card was at 102c just playing dota. Then I couldn't install new drivers.

I reinstalled windows, installed the clevo drivers and now I can't open CCC, I tried to reinstall everything, but the computer just crashes. :/

Ok I think I know what caused now, The driver I downloaded and installed first for 7970 was around 500mb, that must have been a later one. Downloading the 212mb clevo one now, will probably reinstall windows though, to make sure.

Is afterburner the best way to check my temps on the 7970? Is there a better way?

When I get the 13.1, is it the normal or mobility one?

Ok, so I did Install the HD7970M 9.1.0.0 driver from Clevo's homepage before trying to reinstall windows, and now ccc is working.

However, when I try to install 13.1 over it, it just says that it's already updated and then doesn't install anything. :/

Nevermind you even said mobility in your post. Sorry :p

Well crap, that's a much more serious issue than crappy drivers. Also makes sense why it showed up in an MMO first rather than offline games.

What temperatures should it be running at and any advice before I take the laptop apart?

at stock clocks it should be idling in the 40s-50s and shouldnt be exceeding high 70s to low 80s under max. load.
for comparison's sake: my OCed cpu just scratches the 90s under full load, and thats with a 1ghz oc...

maintenance of ur machine is pretty straight forward actually, just need a standard philips screwdriver and a lil bit of patience. disconnect battery and power cord, the rest should be self-explanatory. for additional advice u can always go check disassembly guides on youtube :)

    go save that cpu buddy!

i would stop playing around with drivers for now and take care of that temperature issue first. 102c is waaay too high and u risk bricking ur gpu with that. its not gonna be fixed by installing different drivers, u have to go ahead and check ur paste job, proper heatsink installation and that ur heatsink fins are free of dust. it also helps if the back of ur machine is raised by an inch or so (i myself am using two plastic bottle caps for that, works wonders :p)
ur gpu should be idling in the high 30s to low 40s and under load shouldnt be exceeding 70s. with max. OC and load im getting to the low/mid 80s.

Cleared out A LOT of dust. Currently idling at 42-43c

Kombustors burnin test maxed out at 98-99c though, but it took waaaay longer to get there.

Gonna try taping the gaps between the fans and the heat-sink later. There's a pretty large gap there. At least that gap isn't filled with dust anymore :D

Repasted the CPU and the GPU and cleaned out the fans and heatpipes (the CPU heatpipe was quite dirty!) and now the CPU is idling in the low 40's (cores 1-3 at 38-42, core 0 at 44-45). THM0 itself is idling at 45-46. Under load I got a peak temperature of 88 in #0 but it was over in a flash, the rest of the time it never went past 78.

So that's good :) thanks for helping me out with that, you may have saved my CPU!

However, it still doesn't explain why I can't get the 7970m to register on 3dmark, hwmonitor or occt. 3dmark vantage can detect there's a 7970m attached to the PCI bus, but it won't use the card for benchmarking. Any ideas?

good job to both of you guys, u just bought ur hardware some room to breathe and stay cool under stress ;)

@sistergodiva: foilmod sounds like a good idea, itll shave up to 5C off ur load temps (that goes for both CPU and GPU btw). also try and do a fresh repaste, since those load temps are still too high IMHO. idle temps are fine now tho :)

@pqueiro: now those are perfectly fine idle/load temps for ur cpu now, u can leave it at that for now ;) have u checked ur CCC in the switchable graphics section to make sure that the respective .exe files of the programs are on high performance mode? also, are u using the latest drivers?

@both: try and keep an eye on ur temps in the future, dusting out the heatsink fins and vents is recommended every 3-6 months, depending on ur surroundings. if u notice any rise in idle or load temps, freshen up that clean and paste job :) that way ull keep ur laptop alive and running smoothly for a long time to come.

I'd read about the botched paste jobs some Clevo resellers did... I even stressed to mine how important getting the paste right was for me. He didn't. Ah well, at least it's easy enough to get at the components and no warranties were voided :) thanks a million for the advice!

As for the 7970m not showing up, I installed 3dmark11 and that one detects the 7970m and uses it for benchmarking (got a perfectly normal score, a smidge above average according to some googling but nothing to crow about), but I still can't see it. Does it not have a temp sensor? It should, shouldn't it?

I just tried SWTOR (runs great, btw, seems I was unfairly blaming Bioware and AMD... oops!), which is attributed to the High Performance card on CCC, and it still wouldn't show up in either tool.

I'm starting to wonder really if it has a temp sensor o_O

    Edit: running 13.1 drivers.

go get urself GPU-Z and start the included graphic minibench:

    http://www.ozone3d.net/public/jegx/201301/gpuz-067.jpg

click the question mark right next to the Bus Interface and start it in the new popped-up window. this way u make sure that the 7970M is activated. only NOW go ahead and check if u get temp readings of the 7970M (of course, make sure that u set GPU-Z on high-performance mode in CCC).

    see if that helps!

That's the ticket! Running the render test made it show up on HWInfo64 (still nothing on HWMonitor or OCCT though). It's currently hovering around 72C. I'm going to run SWTOR for an hour to see where the temp goes, what values should be considered safe?

    @sistergodiva: I'll try that one too :)

gaming shouldnt stress the GPU to go above 90C. should stay below that if u wanna play it safe, especially for longer periods of time.

Averaged 82.7 over a little more than an hour, complete with instancing and fancy graphical effects. Never went over 85. I'm pretty happy with that :)

Been playing far cry 3 at a steady 80c

Figured out that having my computer on tablecloth wasn't the best idea, so I lifted it up with a cuttingboard lol.

Wish I had a better place to game at work, but of well :p

    77c now even :D

    >_> found a thread here about a guy took some hvac tape and sealed some cracks around the fan and heat pipes, got a fairly significant drop in temps...

    ... just saying...

    whats hvac tape?

but yeah, the basic assumption here is that any kinda tape should work as long as its not too temperature-sensitive.

I'm thinking though, isn't it risky putting conductive tape inside your laptop? :S

well....if that was the case then it would be high risk to design both the heatsinks and -pipes out of highly conductive copper, wouldnt u say? ;)

Hey all, I was reading this thread about the issues with the Hotkey notifications and user mentaltmc mentioned that clevo sent him to a FTP site with a new version of hotkey (6.0100) which now has the functionality to disable keyboard notifications by right-clicking the hotkey icon in the notification area. He also told us that the sager site updated their driver page, I went to confirm this and only found the update in the NP9370 page, I downloaded the driver and tested it, so far it works great and now I have no more annoying notifications.
