Interesting that HWiNFO32 will not install on my Clevo W880CU/Sager NP8850. After installing it, it freezes the whole system as soon as it starts to run. It did this after reinstalls and restarts, no matter what. My W870CU/NP8760 it installs and runs great. What is your thinking on this issue. Thanks.

I need more details - best would be to run HWiNFO32 in Debug Mode (enable in Configure dialog) and after it freezes you should find a HWiNFO32.DBG file there. Please send me that one.
Meanwhile you could also try to disable few options in HWiNFO32 / Configure like HPET, etc.

@all: If you're having issues with HWiNFO32, why don't you submit them to the HWiNFO32 thread here or HWiNFO forum? The more feedback I have, the more I can improve it.

Since at least one of you guys here has a d900f, i have a question, because, obviously, the one who has it, opened it up.

The difference betwen a 9.5mm and a 12.5mm hdd is JUST 3mm in height.
Is it such a tight fit fitting the 9.5mm hdd in the 3 hdd slots of the d900f, that not even 3mm more in height are available to fit a 12.5mm hdd ?
Because i find this rather hard to believe.

The NP9285 can take three drives. The first two drives are stacked on top of each other and the third drive is under the battery. You might be able to fit a 12.5mm drive if you sacrificed the second hard drive space . . . I no longer have the unit so I cannot confirm this. Maybe Speedy can open it up and take a look.

Notebooks are specifically designed to use as much of the internal space as possible. If they can make the notebook 3mm thinner, they will... So it shouldn't be hard to believe as almost no notebooks have space for 12.5mm HDD's

that is the first thing i tough and is possible to put one of those on this laptop
not on the one under the battery but on the compartment where it takes two stack together
because there is a lot of space :)

    here is the benchmark :)

i did and is possible but i want to try any way , i have one 12.5mm 880gb drive and i may try today to make sure you can still stack two drives one 9.5mm and one 12.5mm

Can u use one 9.5mm under the battery, and two 12.5mm stacked on each other ?
Not Necesary in these position, but what i'm asking, is can you fit two 12.5mm hdd and one 9.5mm hdd ?

Because i was thinking, one 9.5mm ssd and two 1TB 12.5mm hdd for storage.
SSD for windows and installed apps and games, and 2TB worth of storage.

no i just try and the max you can install is one 12.5 stacked with one 9.5 and under the battery is space for one 9.5 only but i think that is still a lot of space for storage :)

Thanks for info, that is very helpfull.
That means we could have 2 9.5 ssd-s in raid, for system/installs and one 12.5mm tb for storage.
All we need now is for intel engineers to come up with a firmware tha can send trim command behind a raid array.
Because the bad part about raiding 2 ssd-s is that currently there no way to trim them.
Once intel fixes this, we will be able to trim the array, and there will be no disadvantages what so ever to raiding ssd-s.

And if you think raiding ssd-s is expensive, there is the intel boot drive, the intel x25-v, 40gb per piece. Very cheap, and 2 of them should outperform a x25m 2nd gen 80gb.
I think the intel ssd-s are 7mm think without the black outer margin thingy, as seen here.
    http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1022/1/
    9.5-7 = 2.5mm
So when you have 2 drives stacked upon each other, you would win 2.5mm, and to use a 12.5mm hdd, you would need only 0.5mm more wich is imposibile not to get.
Is this the reason you can stack a 12.5mm hdd ? in the 2 slot drive bay ?

i will try when i get home to bad i don't bring the machine with me , thanks Mumak :)

if you really put your mind on put two 12.5mm drives is possible
but i find the only way is cutting the hdd. caddy
because it has a piece of sheet metal on the top
and is on the way to add the second thicker drive :)

the only benchmark that matters is the internal benchmark bath file from the original crysis in terms of testing the gpu power and temps, seriously.

    can you run this benchmark?

Are you sure there is a temperature sensor on DIMM? If yes, please run HWiNFO32 in Debug Mode, open Sensors and after closing send me the HWiNFO32.DBG file so I can check and fix that too.

GPU memory sensor... Everyone is hooked on monitoring the Memi0 of the ATI cards to see whats going on...

GDDR5 runs hot and no one has a clue how it runs on the Nvidia cards...

It should run cooler seing as the memory clocks in the GTX 480M are a lot lower than that in the 5870M.

    Memory clocks on 480M @ 1200mhz vs MR5870 @ 1000mhz. They are actually higher ;)
The core has lower clocks but that's not what I'm worried about, since we can monitor and control its temps.

At the end of the day none of us really know the temps that the actual memory is running at though...

Best way is to fire up furmark with the lid off the back of the machine and point a temp gun at it ...

I told Speedy this might not even be a good idea since once you see the temps you might want to sell the machine ;)...

NVidia actually calculates GDDR5 clocks differently (don't know why though). So their 1200mhz would be 2400mhz effective, while ATi's 1000mhz would be 4000mhz effective.

Well if thats the case then the Nvidia cards should have lots of headroom for cranking on the memory...

Speedy ran his mem at 1400mhz without issue so i guess i can see why that was so easily achieved ...

Effective clocks is one thing, "real" is another.
280M's and MR4870's had differently calculated clocks as well, but in reality the Green's ran warmer on my system (even though the core temps were always showing lower values) than the Red's. I did quite a bunch of tests with most existing drivers, same heatsinks, TIM, ambient, etc. The chassis was always warmer with the 280's.

Quad is right, we would need a single system, same cooling for both cards and a thermal gun for finding some bits of the truth.

If you can open up the system and have a look inside then things regarding the actual memory frequency will become a lot clearer. I wrote about this stuff a long time ago, you can see it in my sign.

But the effective clocks ARE the real clocks for GDDR5 (if that's what you mean by real in quotation?)

It's the effective memory clock specified by the GDDR producer.

If it's anything like the 8690/8760, the keyboard and palmrest area would be completely cold to mild warmth even under extreme load, because they used thick plastics as insulation, and layer of plated metal under the plastic to redirect the heat.

    very interesting..
and you can not use regular nibitor to change the voltage...at least not with the free version. i have been in touch with them and they are working to incorporate the 480m into it just like they did for the 480 desktop version.
and since it is over clocking and keeping up with .0850 volts...pretty much explains it all..vs 5870 @1.15 volts. not sure why this doesn't translate well.
this system in a the hands of a "i dont care bencher" will pretty much kill all competion.(just my opinion is all) :)

great job on the early benching!!

this card will prove to be king pretty soon.
    9700 gpu
    with no freezer
    no voltage
    no cooler
    room temp
very good start to say the least...

i am not in to benching like others just when i get a new system i like to test it to make sure it works properly with a little stress

if this card wasn't running that cool i never try to overclocked more :)
