Ok but for the purpose of this thread we'd as a minimum need statement of FPS and average utilization. At best before and after the driver.

Utilization mostly in the 90's, fps around 40-60 all settings high.

    ha ha ha.

its the best we've got so far. official release could be next week, or 5 months later, no one is really sure.

ps. the beta drivers are quite decent.

I study in a foreign country, so having a computer that goes BSOD often or just some times is not an option. Plus i play some games that are very team dependent, which means that if I BSOD in the middle, people will get angry :)

Sorry I was also busy with work.

Planetside 2 isn't good with the performance drivers, it's dx9 and mu gpu usage is below 50% fps is around 20 - 30 in large fight with everything in high and AO off.

Yes huge underutilization issue on planetside 2. Low/med/high you get like 30 fps in big fight, no matter what setting. My friend with same cpu and a 660M can have way more fps at low. Sound like BF3 all over again, i hope amd don't need to fix each game one by one for this enduro crap.

I think we will get an answer to that when the 8000 series launches. If it doesn't use the same kind of Enduro system as the 7000 series, we are likely screwed. Hopefully they can fix Enduro altogether.

Nope not running fine. Planetside 2 forums are filled with people who are having issues, actually gpu utilization issue, on Nvidia as well, desktops etc. Also issues with CPU and yes this is a PhysX game. Some are claiming using SweetFX and core parking helps.

It's really sad this thread is filled with people assuming it's a AMD GCN issue when it's not. It doesn't hurt to use google, only takes 5 seconds.

Complaining about performance issue on GTA IV? A game that is arguably the worst console port for performance ever?

Sometime you should take more than 5 secondes of google. You will find than Nvidea just release a driver for planetside 2 and it's working really fine now. I dont need to google anything when i have 2 laptop in front of me, one with 660M and another with 7970M.

But i agree, this game is far from optimized and maybe it's not enduro at all. But the fact is, i still get 30 fps low/mid/high in big fight no matter what setting. This issue sound really like enduro to me.

Yeah funny that taking more than 5 seconds of google shows that the game is having issues with AMD GPU, that don't have Enduro and aren't mobile. :/

12.11 Enduro, BF3 works at 20-30fps no matter what. Utilization %30-70.

Maybe I did something wrong. It wasn't like this before.

Time to reinstall the drivers. There is definately something wrong with your installation, since even the stock drivers perform better that that.

I'm on Assassin's Creed marathon right now. Even %30 gives me solid 30fps.

And like I said, it wasn't like this before which means this driver was working fine. There's nothing wrong with installation. Maybe this is the way Enduro works, I'm not the only one having utilization come back after some time. Trading unnecessary fps for cooling and power saving. I've never seen below 25fps in any game and highest temp was 70C for BF3, 64C (most of times below 60) for Assassin's Creed. (80C for Skyrim which has %99 utilization). This is a good idea but they must've targeted 40 instead of 30 and an option to switching off.

Wow. Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow WILL NOT use the 7970M, only the HD 4000. I even tried opening Skyrim and Pandora at the same time, and Skyrim used the 7970M, but when I switched to Pandora, Pandora used the HD 4000. I see 0% usage with my 7970M playing Pandora. It may be an old game, but even with the HD 4000 my FPS ranges from 40 to 60. I'd much rather have 60+ with the 7970M, but the game won't run it! And yes, the .exe is set for high performance.

    Hi all !

Yesterday I ordered my first alienware :
    m17x-intel 3630-7970m

I have a few questions/remarks after reading almost all pages on this thread (7970m related)

    1) It seems the first months after its release the 7970m had huge driver-issues but most of them seem to be resolved with the 12.11 driver ?
    2) When AMD is releasing new drivers I see some games get more FPS. Is AMD doing common-driver changes or are they making changes for each game separately ?
    3) Should I immediately remove stock-drivers and install these new drivers after receiving my system ?
    4) Alienware is able to switch to the AMD card with FN-F7 and reboot, is this solving a lot of issues at the moment or was this a thing to do when the driver was still buggy ?

    Thanks in advance,

    greeting from Belgium !

    Optimal setting with mxaa set to 2 : 27 - 35 fps in direct x 11

I didn't go with mxaa 8 cuz yeah we are gaming on laptop after all
This was with the performance drivers I'm gonna install the 11.8 see how it is
oh yeah gpu usage 85 to 99% .

If the usage are good at every setting, i will be happy.

Can you test if low/med/high getting 85-99% utilization too ? ( Maybe i'm wierd but i really like to play with 60 fps. )

    tested with 12.8
In high you can get up to 50 fps very high 35/40
the cpu usage in afterburn doesn't work on 12.8 ? or i might try to reinstall it
I have the same bug that I have in Assassin's creed 3, the application will crash due to atidxx32.dll
I have no idea how to fix it I deleted all my folders and registry entry for amd manually after I uninstaller my drivers.

    Edit:
there's a lot of option for the game
I tried with gpu frames buffer (or something like that set to 3) and my fps were better , in optimal average was 38/40 fps

Alienware switching iGPU/GPU solve any underutilization issue. You don't have to care about this thread, all theses issue are only for clevo. So don't worry and enjoy your new laptop. :)

Fary Cry 3 seems to the new GPU killer. Similar to Crysis 1.
I'd turn of MSAA. It's a performance killer even at 2. I would also drop down to Dx9 if you want anything over 45fps.
Far Cry doesn't seem like a game we'll be maxing out. I don't have the game yet. But I'm seeing desktop 670s struggle at max.
So not good news for us.

What saodexan says is entirely truth. DO take notice that switching enduro off with FNF7 reboot will turn off enduro entirely, so power consumption will be high as 7970 will be always in charge, besides that you have nothing to worry about.
    As to your other questions:
The new drivers have not solved all issues with 7000 AMD series, but they are getting there, also they are giving high performance boosts in some games and benchmarks, so you might give them a try, but i might suggest doing it at your own risk or wait for the official non beta releases.
It seems new drivers are adressing specific game issues as well as general issues, no one really knows, there is even a enduro performance driver out there, wich suppossedly fixes DX9 support issues, but so far its not soi clear it does so.
IMHO my clevo with 7970 has never gave me headaches (besides messing with drivers at my own risk), i play all games in full ultra settings and enjoy them fully, most issues are multiplayer related anyway and i dont play multi any game so far. Even BL2 runs great, with low physix settings adn all other settings to the highest possible.

So far I'm getting some pretty bad texture issues. I can't get rid of this annoying back bar from the screen.
    2012-12-04_00001.jpg

I went back to the performance drivers. Way to many CCC crashes with this new beta. Holy hell.

I got rid of it and other issues, by doing a clean driver install. I installed the stock drivers, then installed the new beta drivers (kept the stock CCC).

    My settings
1x Vsync (2 kills the fps)
    GPU max buff 3
    Dx11
    2X MSAA
    etc....

I have AO, Post FX and shadows set to medium. I'm running at what looks to be 55fps (probably more)

Damn AMD, Tried 12.11 Beta 11 and still 0 improvement in DCS (DX9). Also wasted 3 hours trying to get atikmpag.sys BSOD to go away (this time swapping in old atikmpag.sys no longer fixed the issue). Tried all the driver cleaning methods posted over the forum. I think it was triggered when WinSAT.exe runs right after driver change and startup. Finally installed driver only, over 12.7 giblets and no BSOD.

Really getting sick of the issues with this card, and have nothing but crap performance in the titles I use/play. I guess I will wait till their WHQL 12.11, if no dice then I'll have to go see what MALIBAL can do on warranty about an upgrade to 680m, or even 675M if push comes to shove.

Dude it's DCS. FSX and DCS will always have the worst possible frame rates no matter what system you have. I hate them both. You can try Falcon series. They can give you good fps with integrated GPU. People play it with fx5200.

It's not just DCS actually, and I have info on how it runs on NVIDIA cards, much better. DCS runs on the 7970M at slightly better than 280M in my D900F, that's not right. Unacceptable. I might as well get a GTX 675 which will outperform this.

First Sleeping Dogs with HKskip.exe. I couldn't play the game for almost 3 months. It wasn't until new drivers were released that I got it working.
Now Far Cry 3 is giving all sorts of issues. The main problem isn't even the dark shadows on screen. It's the instant crash of CCC. Unless you're using stock drivers, adjusting Far Cry 3 settings will cause Catalyst to crash.

I've wasted almost 6 hours trying to fix this since the games release. NO MORE... Getting the PS3 version and never looking back. I think it's safe to say my frustration level with AMD and the 7970m has reached a boiling point. My laptop (P170em) has been a huge waste of money for the most part. I'm very disappointed, from the overheating (fixed somewhat with foil tape) and the crappy driver support, endless BSODs, this thing is close to being a $1700 paperweight.

I'm really crossing my fingers for the 12.11 WHQL release. Maybe it will be actually stable (easy to install?) and fix even all DX9 titles. No idea; AMD isn't really clear on whether DX9 fixes are already in 12.11 Beta 11 or not. I just can't see any.

Just an update for BL2 players.
Today i started my BL2 and am not sure how it happened but my max frames setting was set to 60 or 40, so i was seeing 70% GPU usage and 40 FPS average, when i am used to 70 fps average and 98% GPU usage.
I am pointing this out because these setting changed by itself! (no clue how) so be aware to check it if you are experiencing low GPU usage with these game.
I must add i play with all settings maxed out, 1080p and everything, just physix LOW.

I've noticed a problem on my 7970m.. Perhaps someone can help.

Framerate drops randomly from 70 to 20fps and then goes back to 70. I've tested it on Black Ops 2, Witcher 2, Sleeping Dogs.

    2720QM (2.2)
    8GB RAM kingston hyperx
    SSD 250gb
    7970m 2GB

Cant tell what is the problem. Black Ops MP is unplayable sometimes. Is it common 7970m problem? Its nothing to do with game settings I tried everything vsync off/on and low/high detail settings. Im using latest beta drivers ATI released. Is there anything I might be missing? Not sure if its windows fault or drivers settings fault.

    please help.

that sounds weird, in my case BL2 does that when i have physix on MED or HIGH (GPU usage and FPS drop drastically in certain maps and situations), playing with it on LOW has no issue.
I am not familiar with the games you are quoting except witcher 2 wich i play maxed out at 30fps or 60FPS (with hiperreal off) but havent experienced drastic drops in FPS, but check if they have physix and disable it or set it to the lowest possible, that might help.

Its pretty average, between 15 and 40 %, usually arounfd 20. i must add that when the fps and GPU usage go abruptly down, CPU usage is always around 20 or even less. I know physix is managed by CPU in non nvidia cards, but my CPU usage does not seem to show any bottlenecks.
I must add that its not just setting physix high and shooting at the ground (wich makes all the rubble fly, or watching at waving flags), its certain scenes and maps that render the fps to crap.
Also i monitored CPU usage in LOW physix and its about the same for the same scenes (maybe 10% lower at the most), but GPU usage is stable.

And GPU usage is modest as well?

Pretty sad how developers are managing resources these days. I guess i7 processors still aren't widespread enough for them to care to offload more to the CPU, or optimize more for quad cores. There is definitely some kind of bottleneck whether in the code or in the hardware, but it is likely a CPU optimization issue, kind of like what was going on with Skyrim before it was updated in early/mid 2012.

When the fps goes down (as much as 15 fps) GPU usage is around 15 to 30% only, and CPU usage 20. So yes, there is definetely a bug somewhere, i bet its a patcheable thing, because in some heavy physux scenes the fps stay stable around 50 or 60, but in some other it plummets...
Anyway i finished the game already, JACK is dead, lol, and uninstalled it. i enjoyed it fully with low physix, and have tested the physix high settings, the effects are neat but fully unnecessary.

As i once said physix is the best monopolic tool example around the industry, it should be banned entirely.

Guys can anyone explain me this: I'm playing cs:go competitively so getting at least a constant 128fps is crucial for me. I'm using the performance 12.11 drivers atm because this is a dx9 title and fps is pretty good but my question is about oc'ing:

If not overclocked: usage between 85-94 so that's good
increasing core clock : avg fps increases with higher core(at 1050 atm) and utilisation still about the same as not oc'ed
increasing mem clock: strange things happen.. fps drops(usually from 170 to 120 and back) all over the place, which gives me a lower avg fps + utilisation drops, the higher mem clock the lower my utilisation(around 65-74% at 1400 clock)

any explanation for this? Can it be that I have a "semi-faulty" gpu, which doesn't like it's mem clock to be touched ?

I remember trying to overclock my HD 4770 for Bad Company 2 with a Core 2 Duo E8400. My FPS went down when overclocking the GPU. I think it has something to do with CPU/GPU balance. If the CPU isn't feeding the GPU fast enough, overclocking could screw you up. I could be wrong, though.

Metro 2033 is severely affected by the Enduro issue. I can get 30FPS at max settings, but when I switch to high, I only get a few more FPS, and at low, my FPS still range from 40 to 60 FPS.
