I just had my first crash on 179.48 drivers. So I had to downclock the memories. I've set them now to 854.
That was great advice with changing the subsystem of the BIOS file. nvflash worked like a charm. Thanx a lot.
-
so what is happening now?
also click the timings tab and try different timings. -
Well now the card works fine. Expect that I can't overclock the memories to much. For example at 860 Mhz in games like WiC it will start to artifact but barely noticeable. If I push them even higher Vista Aero/ Win7 Aero freezes completely. The screen gets filled with small v-shaped formations of dots. Usually before the screen freezes small dots start to appear in different windows. It sometimes appears 10 minutes after boot, or after 2 days.
I don't think I can fix it with the timings and to be honest and I have no idea what values to change them to.
I just think my vRAM is bad and it is likely it will die out in time but I can't send my notebook back as long as the issue only appears under overclock. I have a 2 year warranty on my system and I might upgrade to a 280M so that should cover it.
And I don't think my OC caused the problem because it was there from my very first attempt to run the memories at 900 Mhz. -
then i would do one of two things..
either push it and keep trying to find a solution till it either fixes it self or it breaks. nvidia drivers allow for over clocking now and it will be come standard practice to over clock your card. and there is no guarantee that they will make a version fitting your computer.(or the bios updat needed to run the card) and if they do..that could be quite some time in the future.
you guys give up to easy....
it's still like a bunch of stuff you can try, but i guess you have to be willing to try them all till you have nothing left to try. im that guy that trys it all no matter how far fetch the ideas sound. till there is nothing left. then i send it in for replacement. -
Right... so what else I am to do ? OC the memories to 950 Mhz and wait for them to die so I can get a replacement ?
I mean, I do not really see what else I can do. I have been trying for the past 2 months. Different clocks, drivers, BIOSes. I have even tried emike's custom timings. I would ask for a replacement, but I am not sure I can get one without a justification. -
start simple first.
revert back to a factory driver
vbios flash back to stock original bios and strings
revert your bios back to factory.
set it back to standard vga
then do an update of vga driver to 176.09
then run 3dmark06 test 5 and 6 only or run furmark @1280x1024
then go back and bios flash the memory to 900, leaving everything else the same. you need your correct timing set for your computer. this is a big thing
then run the same test again. see if they pass. if they pass then we can do something slightly different. if it fails. then we need to try a different timing set.
mater of fact, run nibitor and click get timings. it will tell you the correct set for you computer. mine happens to be 7.
start with that -
As for the timings. You mean I should hit autodetect timings set. But I can't do that under 64-bit cause nibitor doesn't work like that in 64-bit. Always gives the error can't start driver 1275. -
then your gonna need someone with a 32 bit version to do it for you. -
You mean someone with a card just like mine that can see what is the timing set. Great....
).
I know exactly what I am going to do. I have somewhere at home a HDD with XP SP3. I could just swap the HDDs and try with XP and see what happens. To bad I will only be home in 2 weeks from now so I will have to wait until then.
But the entire process of testing if the timings work will be very difficult. I mean to give you as an example. Since I've last put the memories at 900 Mhz I have ran 3dmark06 3 times and vantage once without a problem and than suddenly today, aero crashed. -
yep..that's because this is where it starts...
then when you do updates and add and remove programs and other things...they cause a system change..this is just an over view, you would have to do allot more to figure out exactly what. plus look at the windows error logs as well. -
I will try to look into the logs see if there is anything there.
Edit: I've checked the logs, there nothing there to indicate anything suspicious. Last events were 2 minutes before the crash, one is network related like Peer Networking Identity Manager and Program Compatibility Assistant - these are the last two. -

Hi, im pretty new to this overclocking lark but ive got myself a very stable system with this:
vista 32
cpu qx9300 @2.92
9800m GTX @ 600/1500/865, DOX 182.46 driver
3gb ddr3 8500 1066mhz
Im getting a score in 3dmarks06 of 12370.
Stock settings I was getting 10780.
Im really impressed with the proformance, just played Warhaed with ccc 3.0 level 4+ at 1280x1024 and most of the time im hitting 30fps. At 1920x1200 im mostly hitting 20fps.
Does this sound about right for my system? cheers. -
looks pretty good so far.
-
Yeap, that should be about right but I not a major specialist.
Your CPU really gives you a boost. Think that I have the same clocks on my GPU and I hit about 10100-10200 in 3dmark06. -
-
what are you getting for 2.0/3.0/cpu scoring?
-
One of the reasons Quads put me off is battery life, I still need 2 hours of battery life and now that's what I get with the P processors and also it is why I only want to upgrade to P processors. The other reason is money.
Anyway, amazing CPU. Thumbs up.
-
Just ran vantage for the first time with this set up:
vista 32
CPU qx9300 @2.92
9800m GTX @ 600/1500/865, DOX 182.46 driver
3GB ddr3 8500 1066MHz
these are the results:
Overall score- P5884
GPU- 5089
CPU- 11076
CPU test 1- 1482.07
CPU test 2- 15.95
GPU test 1- 15.35
GPU test 2- 14.45 -
vista 32
CPU qx9300 @2.92
9800m GTX @ 600/1500/865, DOX 182.46 driver
3GB ddr3 8500 1066MHz
these are the results:
Overall score- 12385
sm 2.0- 5313
sm 3.0- 5040
cpu- 3984 -
i would have thought you would be closer to my scores with a quad...
13,648
2.0 - 5950
3.0 - 5585
cpu - 4190 -
-
yeah, my cpu isn't over clocked. it's stock...i to wish i could over clock it like you guys..

Hi,
Does anyone have a good picture of a 9800M GTX board. I want to see what is written on the memories.
A 9800M GT might also do, but I prefer a GTX.
Thnx a lot. -
I will try "power save" battery mode soon and let you know how long it lasts.. -
FYI - To anyone looking to buy a 9262 w/9800M GTX....
According to Justin Woitte @ XoticPC, this GPU is discontinued and no longer available from them. Their 9262 now comes with the Quadro FX3700 as the only option. PNB still shows the 9800M GTX and the FX3700 (+$295), so they must have a few remaining. -
Nibitor v5.0 is out. 0617 is now supported.
-
man, that's good news.

On another note, anybody interested in a 9800M GTX for $350? I have it running stable at 600/1500/900 @ 1v right now. -

Sager has received a last batch of 9800M GTX's. -
yeah, it goes in to discontinue stage at the end of this month. and no plans for a gtx280m/gtx260m to be made to work for it either.
-
Can't they SLi quadro cards? That'd be pretty wicked.
-
dont think the quadro cards have the connector on them. (speculation)
-
Or were you just refering to the 9800M GTX? -

The D901F is expected to be released next month (or possibly later). This will replace the D901C.
-
some time in may is what im told. and they say they have no idea on the price as of today.

Blacky, I was unable to get my camera to work. It seems that I have forgotten to switch on the power strip that was charging my camera battery before I left. Anyway, the chips on my card end in 1A. -
edit; but i am not sure if i can simply take a 9800m gtx from a m570 and just place it into the d900c. from what i have read i do not think i can without having to perform phyical modification to the card or something like that. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The cards should be physically identical since the 9800M GTX for the M570TU and D900C are both MXM-IV.
This may come in handy for you. ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=248662&page=2) -

My heatsink has a third heatpipe attached to the cage on the underside of the card. There are also a few other differences, but thats the main one in my opinion.

I have not checked. That is a good question. But what I can say is that my 9800M GTX BIOS is version 0617, which should enable SLi for this card.
I agree, it is best to let a vender make the call in this case. -
They are different in a back metallic plate with screw adapters...check this out http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=342446
If you find the metal plate then OK -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Thanks oile. ARGH, if you have the backplate with the screw adaptors from one of your 8800M's, then maybe we might get something going here.
