What site are you using to get your drivers from?
-
The only site anybody uses to get drivers. laptopvideo2go.
Use the 180.44 drivers. -
@johnksss
how many benchmark-points (Vantage) are the difference between qx9650 and q9550, what do you guess? -
that 167 mhz actually makes a decent difference in scoring. i have a q9550/q6600/qx9650. and out of those 3 cpu's.... the q6600 is right up there near the qx or q9650. but when you start to up chip speed...the qx will start leaving them by the way side. the q/qx are identical in every way from what i was told by an owner who has both. (q9650/qx9650) although running a qx has my system running in the very very low 30's on temp. gotta love that!

emike... for flashing the nvbios 0608 to 0617, you said:
nvflash -4 -5 -6 0617.rom
is this correct???
what is the option 4? i dont see it in the txt file... -
its in there. I'm not sure its exact funtion, but thats what you want to do. I've done it a hundred times using those options. They should work fine.
-
ok ok. thanks!
i overclock a little my 0608 nvbios and then flash without option -4 and no problems. i got it
later, i will try flashing with your 0617 vbios...
greetings -
The 0617 is a different card, technically. You'll need the -4 to flash a vBIOS that does not belong to your card.
-
ok ok!
I am doing it with option -4 now
and i see that i must reinstall the nvidia 180.44 drivers again.
edit:
but a problem running 3dmark06. in the last bench, i got a blue screen and the system fail
what may be the problem?
edit again:
I down a little the emike settings (600/1600/950) to 600/1500/900 and now without problems.
before, my 3dmark06 was between 10000-10100, and now I get 11800
the max temp running this benkmarch is 72ºC (161ºF), and it worry me a littlebecouse when I play Crysis game, I suppose the the temp will be more higher.
I will see what happen -
72C is just fine. Even 80C is fine. Just run all your fans on max.
Not every card will overclock the same. I can't guarantee you'll be able to get 1600mhz on the shaders. -
playing Crysis game I get 'artifacts' (or how it say) on screen and the temp gets 82ºC
so I put 500/1400/800 and the temp gets 76ºC and without these artifacts problems.
and with 500/1500/800 the temp gets 78ºC.
edit:
emike... when do you say 'just run all your fans on max'.... what do you mean?. how do I do that? -
The artifacts are likely coming from the fast memory. You need to do your own experimenting with your own card. If you want a good overclock, you need a good notebook cooler, such as the Zalman NC2000. Anytime I stress an overclock, I run it no hotter than a 60F ambient temp.
How long have you had your system for? When I pulled my system apart a few weeks ago, My vents were completely filled with lint and hair from my brothers golden retriever. I took the cooling system apart, applied some better grease, and when I retested temps, they had dropped about 20C. -
what do you mean with 'some better grease'??... do you talk about thermal compound 'artic silver 5' for heatsink, grease for fans, or what?
thanks emike! -
180.44 works great thank you all again for your help. I am bit of a retard in ref to this stuff and I am learning as I go.
-
uhmm.... I had to come back to the original 0608 VBIOS and set the frecuencies by default.
the games fail in about 10-15 minutes
(or artifacts or crashed)
I tried it a lot of possibilities (with 0617, with 0608, with many frecuencies in mem cpu and shadders) but my notebook did not works fine.
with the original vbios and frecuenties... all ok! -
I testet 3Dmark06 but it crash everytime in the first test. but i can play fallout 3 for houres without any crash...
-
i would flash to the new bios with default settings first.
500/1250/799
after running a few test this way, then up the settings to
600/1500/900
run some games and benchies...
if everything is good there...then start getting fancy... -
Anyone tried out 180.48 from laptopvideo2go with the modded inf. I would be interested to see how it works with the 8800M and 9800M series as this release includes the 8.10.13 PhysX drivers.
-
Works great for me. No issues at all with it. Haven't noticed a performance change from 180.44.
-
hope you know this stuff with physx is a CPU inhancement and not a GPU performance boost. and with a slower system...can drop your framerate down as well. physx is for the fancy game play, but when both are running at the same time (real world game testing) you can lose fps if your cards are not up to par. ergo, the reason why they now have the turn of switch....
-
When playing CODWAW using 180.48 drivers I have issues where it looks like the frames freeze. Has anyone else had an issue of this nature
-
Use 180.70 they originaly support all GPUs
-
The clevo m860tu doesnt support this card right?
-
The M860TU does not support the GTX variant, no.
I don't think 180.70 "originally" supports all cards, I just think that xfastest has already modified them -
hi guys! (sorry my english)
as I said, I have problems with the GPU temps and I can't do any kind of overclock on my 9800m gtx.
well... yesterday, I was playing only a little time with 'Dead Space' game and the GPU temp got 80ºC (176ºF).
today I changed the thermal compound 'Artic Silver 5' by 'Artic Cooling MX-2'.
and now, I have been playing for a long time with the same game and the temp get max 74ºC (165ºF).
I think that -6ºC is a very good temperature difference with respect to the other compound AS5. even playing much longer with the MX-2 than the AS5 compound. and even I think that the compond needs about some days or two weeks for better work and performance.
greetings -
you know...this is pretty much all up for debate.... compound is of course ..better than not having any, but if your cards run at full speed 24/7 then they will usually stay anywhere from 5 to 20 degrees higher than normal. if your using the powermizer settings for the gpu...then temps will drop pretty quick after gaming and your temps tend to stay lower. it also matters where the laptop sits during gaming because not all "surfaces are created equal"
and of course...if you use the right notebook cooler...it can also add to keeping it cooler.
-
what do you mean? (in a easy english, please)
(for check the min and max temps, I use HWMonitor program) -
1: use powermizer settings.
2: keep laptop in a nice cool area with plenty of breathing room.
3: it's more than just adding as5. it is a combination of things.
4: keep heat sink and fans cleaned! mandatory!
hope that's a bit easier.... -
what is 'powermizer' ???
-
First of all.. thanks a bunch to all for your great advice.
I flashed Emikes's 0617 vbios and am impressed with the results. My clocks show 600/950/1600 and games like a champ. I was benching just barely over 10k on 3d Mark with the 0608 and now I''m getting around 11,650 with the 0617. I'm using driver version 180.70 from laptop2go.
I have a question about temps..
GPU<75C -- Core1/2<85C -- GPU<69C -- THM0<89C
These are the PEAKS shown by HWmonitor during benching or gaming and I am especially concerned with the THM0 reading.
My machine is about a month old and I'm a bit reluctant to open it up and put new paste on the chips (cause I'm pretty sure that voids the warrantee). Am I in the danger zone with these temps? If so, what is the best/safest method for removing and cleaning off the old thermal paste?
Thanks again -
my CPU and Cores temps (max) are less than 58-60ºC playing games.
but your GPU 69ºC max is great. mine is 74ºC max.
my opinion is that you should apply new thermal paste to your CPU. -
Jarinawer, do you have an X9100 running at 3.5GHz? Cuz Strider H and I do and 85C is a normal temperature when running for a long time. 89C is a bit high, but not too high.
-
and the HWMonitor says <60ºC (140ºF) max on CPUs Cores when playing games.
the THM0 (??? I dont know what is this) is <60-62ºC (143ºF)
and the temps on GPU is <74ºC (now, before I applied the MX-2 compound was 80ºC) when I stress with games like Crysis or Dead Space. -
Oh good you made a system sig. That always helps
-
emike...
what is 'powermizer' that johnksss tolk about it??
and what is 'THM0' temp (HWMonitor)??
edit:
I have been playing now with 'Crysis' game about 1 hour and the HWMonitor (Max temps) shows:
THM0 Max : 53ºC (127ºF)
Core#1 Max : 42ºC (107ºF)
Core#2 Max : 45ºC (113ºF)
GPU Core Max : 74ºC (165ºF)
HDD Max : 52ºC (125ºF) -
-
nice! 1000 more CPU-points!!
-
yep. and in a slightly different config.. i can get less cpu and 6400 on sm 2.0 and 7400 on sm 3.0, but that's dual card
-
Now can you beat my Vantage score, PhysX enabled? You still have a one up on me with that cpu, since the AI test is still run off CPU, but lets see what you can squeeze out of a single GPU, johnjsss...
-
edit: i keep telling you...it's not how high you over clock, it's what you know.you should know that by now..
-
ok, broke 7k for ya mike.
link in sig
-
Dah you got me! Till next time, johnksss... till next time...

With what tools can I get my X9100 to run at 3.5ghz instead of 3.0ghz? I have a clevo based XXODD M570TU computer with a Geforce 9800M GTX graphics card.
Update: found it in the bios apparently this is just a setting -
Also my Geforce 9800M GTX (1GB DDR3) has these clock speeds:
Core: 500 MHz
Memory: 799 MHz
Shader: 1400 MHz
I am a complete noob concerning overclocking. Can someone tell me how I can overclock my graphics card? What tools to use etcetera? -
1400? you changed that or it came like that?
-
1400 sounds about right.
I believe the shader clock is ~1375 -
I did not change it.
-
Never heard of a 98mGTX @ 1400MHz on the shader. Weird. Well who wants to help him?
