im getting about 9400 in 3dmarks how can i improve that?
-
9400 with what?
-
-
-
15,633?! That's insane! Sweet @$$ john
-
thanks!
yeah, just waiting on you to grab the ati title! i got faith in ya!! -
Did you overclock ur 9800m gt? or change the driver only?
-
over clocked the gt.
-
Anybody hit the 15k mark with Vista yet?
-
Is it possible to OC the 9800M GT in the np5796 with software yet? If yes, which one do you recommend? Or the only possible way to OC is with BIOS mod?
Also, what clock speeds do you recommend, (hopefully something you are using) and what temps do you get with those clocks (without external cooler) ? -
Could you ran it when OC'ed in vista? I wanna compare it with OCZ whitebook
-
The OCZ Whitebook gets better scores, the GPUs seem to offer a better Crossfire sollution that the SLi counterparts...
-
Why you certained in that much? I've seen your posted on more thread about these. I didn't see any site test compare them and I've seen better score form 9800gt SLI at 15083 at stock on vista but his cpu is q9650 that has more speed than q9550 (about 133)
-
johnksss after u OCed ur 9800m GT what is the temp.??
-
im beginning to think that over clocking dual nvidia 9800m cards is in fact...not yielding any more performance than stock. (speculation of course) over clocking under windows xp also shoots the card up skyward in single and dual card mode.
im starting wonder if dual 9800's are even really ready to run full steam under vista....
also starting to wonder if sli is better benefited by cpu over clocking than gpu over clocking... because it was explained in a comparison thread. it seems to support that.....(speculation of course) feel free to correct me on this... -
I got 500 point increase consistantly after I OC'ed my 98's.
-
-
Yeah 1500 would be nice. Im satisfied with my current gpu oc. I just wish we could oc our cpu's. Some day maybe?
-

-
My flash didnt take at first. Found out my old Nvidia control panel was the culprit. Installed 6.02 then reflashed and the OC took.
-
what was the flashing strings you used?
edit: try this program as well...
http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ -
When you overclocked the GPU, did you use a USB disk? If so, how did you make it bootable?
-
zfactor has a great guide here
-
Thx.
When i pressed enter to flash it, this happend:
Warning: Firmware image PCI subssytem ID (10DE.063A) does not match adapter PCI subsystem ID (1558.0860)
Error: PCI subsystem ID mismatch.
I used the bios of a 8800m gtx from a guy here who posted it here and i changed the mhz, voltage and the ID back to 060B.
I have 9800m gt and 177.98.
Whats wrong?
Another thing. In GPU-Z, bus interface shows PCI-E x16 @ x1. Shouldnt it be PCI-E x16 @ x16? -
you need to add -4 -5 -6 (with the spaces in-between) after nvflash.
So it's: nvflash -4 -5 -6 whateveritsnamed.ROM press enter -
Thx, to both of you. I ran 3DMark06 and got 10250 wich seems kinda low? Because i got 10100 with the FSB OC.
I used 600/1500/930. -
now this is throwing me off.... so i have to ask...why do you need to use the code -4 -5 -6 for?? i seen this before, but forgot to ask.
(1558.0860)<--- this string is for a 8800m gtx and not an 9800m gt.
1: save original bios to flash drive
2: make backup copy of bios in a different folder
3: take original bios file and open it using nibtor 4.6
4: click on adv. info tab and change one thing only. 060b to 060c
5: save this file as 9800mgt.rom
6: click file/open bios and now open the file you just saved. 9800mgt.rom
7: it should now read the correct clocks
8: click clockrates and change the extra to whatever your going to use. same with voltage.
9: now click the adv.info tab again and change 060c back to 060b
10: click file/save bios. and now over write you 9800mgt.rom file. this will put your strings back to what they should be, while changing your clocks to the higher rate.
11: reboot your computer with flash drive in place.
12: type nvflash 9800mgt.rom and that's it. if you have dual cards it will flash both cards. you just have to click the "y" to flash the second card. (dual card users)
in the end...it should look like this. this is a single card run on a 9800m gt.
dont mind these temps..hwmonitor was found to be 10c's off. i found out after the fact.
see how all the info matches. -
I tested it, but got the same error.
-
so your strings still say it's an 8800m gtx?
can i see a gpuz picture? -
I have to have made 15 posts or more to post URLs.
EDIT: Done.
-
Whoa those are some high clocks! Are you sure that's a good idea?
Or do you have two cards? -
the last two numbers say 18 while mine say 09
and name shouldn't say nvidia g92-600....
try some newer drivers like...179.13 or 180.something or even 178's
edit: and as kevin said...i would back them down some.... i know that's what i was running some test at...but not really where i plan to keep my system at. -
I would suggest not using a modified 8800M GTX bios on your 9800M GT (even though they are the same card) but getting the original bios from your card (if you still have it) and changing the clocks on that.
The reason the card is coming up as g92-600 is because the standard lv2g inf does not recognise that device id (cos its an 8800).
Otherwise try and get a vanilla 9800M GT vbios to mod. -
This is my gpu-z. I have the same bios numbers as Eivind. My own original bios was used for the flash.

Thx for helping guys. I installed a newer driver and lowered the clocks to what Kevin Jack2.0 uses.
I used my own original bios, but nibitor didnt show any clocks etc because its not supported, so i changed the ID to C, saved, opend, changed clocks etc and the ID back to B. Then i flashed.
How did you do it Kevin Jack2.0?
EDIT: Just curious. What was wrong with the other clocks i used? I know they were i little bit high. What could happen?. GPU temps peaked at 76 after some hours with devil may cry 4 on max. -
-
Thx, I really appreciate your efforts.
BTW, got an 3DMark06 score at 10600 with the crazy speeds. I liked that score =) -
now set your settings to performance mode if you haven't done so already... then re run your test. -
I re ran the test, and got 10200. Isnt that kinda low? Before i got 10100 with the FSB OC.
-
rule number one... always start testing a new system at stock everything. thie means stock cpu/gpu/fsb/memory and no enhancements what so ever. this is what is suppose to be called..."out of box" testing.
then start tweaking after you have recorded enough information about your stock setup. now you will be able to tell how much you gain.
when cpu over clocking...some say you cant go as high on the over clock of the gpu, so keep that in mind when choosing to do cpu or gpu or both over clocking. the pretty medium seems to be 600/1500/900 this seems to produce the best results without having to worry about heat and burning stuff up.( not sure how this goes over when over clocking both) -
I ended up having to lower my clocks. Even though I ran 610/1525/945 through three hours of furmark and ati tool, plus hours of gaming to test the stability, Dead Space would cause a driver crash almost immediately upon starting the game.
So, I reflashed to 600/1500/920. I could try lowering the clocks more slowly, but I'm not really interested in constant reflashes. I haven't had a problem since. -
Hmm, those are the speeds im running 610/.......etc, and ive been stable with out a problem for over 3.5 weeks.
-
Same here, but for some reason, Dead Space is the only game that is impossible to run at those clock speeds. Crysis, Mass Effect, COD4, etc... all of those games run at those clocks, but Dead Space is the odd man out.
Anyway, I've raised them slightly, to 605/1510/930, and I haven't had a driver crash during my latest Dead Space playthrough. I can't explain it. -
-
so im encountering a pretty substantial problem when playing crysis: warhead in that my GPU just reached 89-90C in about 10 minutes and stayed there....
this is the only game ive experienced this with, counter-strike source peaks at about 75, the original crysis topped in the low 80s and looping 3dmark it still stays in the 70s.
do i need to reset my OC back to default just for this game? is there anything else i can do? has anyone else noticed this game heating up more than others? the game is a blast so far, but i really dont want to blow up my laptop in the process...
Edit: this is with using a notebook cooler, i just cleaned out the dust the other day, specs in sig. -
you may not have enough air flow for those clocks..
try lifting the back up about 1/2 an inch or maybe invest in a notebook cooler.
also make sure fans are on high, if you have the same option like on the np9262. for max fans. -
Dead Space is the only game that goes over 80C. It peaked at 85C. Compared to FC2 which I have played continuesly longer and peaked at 76C or something. My comp handles Dead Space with ease compared to FC2, so its weird.
