Why would they rev 485M when they can do a G114 core at 100W?

Looking at these badder but power hungry GPU's - it is anathema to the laptop idea of being able to lug a computer around with good battery life- we get suckered in into upgrading to the baddest and best at a premium - so we can play crysis 2 at high at Starbucks? Ignore the wife, kids, family and GF while you game on at home while you hide in the bathroom or closet? Know I will get flamed for this sacriledge -but consider this viewpoint. More power to you if you got the dough to burn but let us start demanding power efficient & smarter GPUs.

You can get smarter and more power efficient GPUs - you just won't be able to game as well. The best GPUs for gamers will always be power-hungry because more power lets you push the graphics more.

For me it's more of a space thing. My daughter pretty much took over my desktop so my laptop is really my home machine. And if I go to the cottage or away on business, the bonus is I can haul my gaming machine along with me.

If I wanted a machine for light productivity/gaming on the train or at a cafe I'd likely just get a tablet or netbook.

"The laptop idea" applies to laptops, and not ever machine is designed as such. High-end gaming notebooks aren't designed around portability, so I'm not sure why you imply that they are. They perform optimally when tethered to a socket, and the battery is only there to last until a short trip between power sources. Lasting 2-3 hours is more impressive than you give credit.

And are these GPUs not power efficient? The 6970M is a 6850, but consumes a full 33% less power (~127W vs ~85W). Which one is less power efficient?

You don't deserve to be flamed, but I will say that your viewpoint is built upon a very weak foundation.

I think the power consumption on this laptop is already amazing... Getting more than 3 hours on something like this is incredible...

I've been happy with my Racer so far. The only real issues I have with it are the rubbery material over the touchpad mouse (which seems to be standard on all 8150 and P150s) and the loud fan noise while gaming. The fan noise isn't a major issue since I wear a headset, but it really is much louder than my old gaming laptop (an MSI GT725).

Actually that sounds like a good idea!!

I use mine to slack off in the library at law school when I get tired of studying :) Don't tell my wife that! I think its perfectly fine battery life since it lasts through a lecture. As for the bathroom, not enough space to use a mouse and touchpad gaming sucks, I've done a bit of Civ 5 though... Also can lug it over to my boss's place for a lan party and have my laptop beast his gaming rig (its like 2-3 years old)...

Hi guys, first post ever on this forum even though I have been visiting this forum for a couple of years.

As a small swedish reseller I must say that you may learn a ton of stuff, even as a reseller. I find that in many cases there are interesting differences between the european and american Clevo community.

I have always been puzzled why there are no european resellers on this site apart from Kobalt. Then again, this is an american forum.

To the point. Even though we do have a representative at Sager we mostly use other sources in europe. This means we get info from both continents (+ Asia). I don't know if the american resellers are under NDA or if Sager does not inform them but at times we know things long before they do. The other way around is also quite common and that is one of the reasons I am hanging around here.

Anyway, among the european resellers there are not many who actually directly import from Clevo. One who actually does is Multicom, which is mentioned earlier in this thread. We keep a dialog with them but unfortunately their ETA for 6970M has not been correct as it was said to be 20th March. (Perhaps they actually shipped a few cards - non EE - but that is beyond my knowledge)

This time however I am confident that the first european 6970ms will ship within 1-2 days and that is not a preliminary date but the actual shipping date. We ourselves should get a small stock within a week. That is good news as Sager can't be far behind.

The price premium should be about a 100 euros including VAT compared to GTX 460M so there's no question which one to take.

Edit: I am of course talking about p150/p170 with 6970m.

    /Ton

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Please, stay a while. There are a lot of Euros here, who need more options for reliable sellers.

You need to get in touch with Charles P. Jefferies, so you can have your name given special designation, as a reseller.

I know for a fact, that the American sellers are under an NDA, even with the 6970M being imminent.

Thanks guys. I will surely keep in touch with this forum and also get the special signature.

We will of course help the few europeans that are here but usually they can get the same kind of support from their local reseller. As for our business we focus solely on Sweden. Part of this is due to the fact that Sweden has 25% VAT making it hard to be competitive in Europe - especially when you are small like us.

So, is this the availability for ALL 6970m or just for that particular model? I ordered a 7200 with dual 6970m and am still waiting on it. I sure would like it next week as I have a trip coming up... ;)

Why can't the 6970 also be made available on the 8130? A lot of people don't like the rubber finish on the 8150.

In the 8150/8170 it is a common design (at least it better be).

The 8130 doesn't support the power required to run it.

    Hello notebookreviews.com forum members,

I am head of Goldmax Laptops company, Eurocom technology reseller for Europe and we are located in Czech Republic. Our company had recieved multiple emails from various countries whether or not we sell all over the Europe and if Sandy Bridge laptops paired with HD6970M are available for the sale.

One email was probably from this forum member and I would like to introduce who Goldmax Laptops really is and what we sell. Goldmax Laptops is distributor (reseller) of Canadian high performance laptop manufacturer Eurocom technology. We can offer to everything what Eurocom sells and ship it anywhere in Europe (or even out of Europe). Feel free to ask anything you want to know and I will do my best to help you out. We do pricematching and can offer discount to anyone who ask for it. We have local service center in Europe as well.

I noticed some resellers here has grey nickname, can help me to get reseller status please? I would like not to violate local rulez. Sorry if its posted in wrong section.

What happened here? Sager is charging some approx 50% more for the 6970M than their european counterparts.

Also it is nice to see more european resellers on this site. Seems like Eurocom is going for an aggressive expansion in europe. I know at least 2 resellers who just recentlly started using Eurocom as main supplier.

Approx. 100-120 Euros including VAT is standard in Europe (read Germany).

That should translate to approx 130 USD. (VAT subtracted).

I don't wanna start an argument so let's just drop this. Sager is a great distributor and almost always cheaper than european distributors when it comes to ordering whole systems. However, most of the european resellers build their computer themselves, like Malibal, and order barebones only.
