Don't know where your getting your info at but it is a different heatsink as Larry stated above. This is confirmed. You can be assured Sager would not install a incorrect heatsink.

Pfft, thanks guys for the correct information on that heatsink being you're resellers after all and we trust what you say. I could see how one number differentiation could be confusing and throw a certain someone off, so thanks for keeping the correct details in light as usual :)

All I know for the moment is:

    GTX 560M has 6-31-X510N-203
    GTX 460M had 6-31-X510N-202
HD 6990M, I don't know but is it imaginable that it has the same heatsink as the GTX 560M?

I hope I'm wrong and the guys here will get the right heatsink. But Sager could check with Clevo R&D department, it will not hurt to ask anyway. I'm asking now that department (but it's already week-end in China) and as soon as I have their reply (if I have it) I'll get you the news.

I ordered the GTX 560m because the 6970m of my friend, who have a P170HM, died. pkhetan ordered it directly from clevo and the number on the die heatsink is exactly 6-31-X510N-203 - and it fits and works perfectly for the GTX 560m that I got. Temps never reach 80°.
I don´t know what part this officially is, but I know that the temps with GTX 560m are all right with that heatsink...

Clevo R&D department has just replied:

The GPU heatsink which come with the 6990M is 6-31-X510N- 204

And as I said before the heatsink for GTX 560M is 6-31-X510N- 203

This is very disconcerting. Between this and the reported matte screen problems, I'm on the verge of canceling (or at least modifying) my laptop order. Bah.

no offense taken. If you take a look at past couple of posts on this thread, there is confusion as to whether or not the GTX 560M heatsink is being used on the 6990M. If pkhetan is correct, then your 6990M is gonna run very very hot.

It might be worth checking along with the color of your GPU Card. Sager has confirmed different model number on the heatsink they are using along with the Clevo certified cards.

Yeesh...feel like I dodged a bullet by not going with the 95% gamut matte on a P150HM only to have to worry about this 6990M issue.

Someone hold me and assure me it's all going to be okay!

You don't have to remove any heatsink or video card or any thing. Just unscrew 4 screws and remove the plastic cover and take a photo........Please........

You don't need to mess with anything inside. Just remove the back panel and the information should be on top of the heatsink.

    I recently purchased a Sager P170HM with a i7-2630QM and a 6990m.

I found out that the newer generation sandy bridge cpus all have built in Intel HD 3000 graphics.

So I'm wondering, is it possible to somehow disable the 6990m when I'm not playing games but just web surfing or doing other less graphic intensive activities? Then I can utilize the HD 3000 and use less power and thus generate less heat.

I don't want to change the subject from the current heat sink issue as I'm interested as well, but I didn't want to create a new thread just to ask this question.

This confusion over numbers is getting weirder by the moment.
It's impossible to enable the IGP in Clevo machines.

Hopefully in the next gen they will use it.

Assuming Larry is correct (he is after all a Sager reseller), your heatsink part number doesn't match the one for the 6990M.

Realize the two different people: One is a Sager reseller and the other is the R&D Department of Clevo. Both sources should be right considering who they are, yet they are not.

As long as your load temps are reasonable, I wouldn't worry about the confusion. But if you're seeing it go over 90C, I'd start asking questions

Here are some more details from Sager Engineering on the heatsink FYI

To clarify a bit, GTX-560 was originally released with the -202 heat sink, the new revised -203 heat sink is released for both the 6990 and the 560 which is being used by Clevo factory on the 6990 for official mass production shipment. And the 560s are being shipped with -202 running change to -203. Clevo RD works on newer design all the time and the next one would be -204 but it’s not yet released by the factory and note that when the -204 is final it will be a running change which it will take a bit longer before it’s circulated to the market. As it won’t’ be used until the -203 inventory reaches 0 (running change).

Email from Clevo, minor edit to remove contact information.

Pls refer below table to know the difference. The heat sink of 204 and 303 is next design. Moreover, the new design (204 and 303) will running change to replace part (302 and 203).
    Heat-sink part number
    6-31-X510N-203
    6-31-X510N-204
    Compatible models

    GTX-560

    6-31-X510N-303

Some folks have noticed a red ghosting effect on the 95%'s when using the calibrated color profiles. Allowing the GPU to handle the color reproduction rather than the OS seems to remedy the issue.

It's unknown if they're faulty panels, color profile issue, or what. Check the screen thread for more info. http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ading-my-np5165d-matte-95-gamut-screen-3.html

    SECOND TIME EDIT:
I had posted here about an order for a member that should be shipped containing -204 heatsink. I had been obligated to edit my post here later to save that shipment, but it seems my edit was too late: the original shipment was intercepted while in its way and Clevo sent a new package after they changed the heatsink from -204 to the -203. All that because Sager were afraid that people would know that they are telling lies (bolded in the quote above). What a Shame !

You do have to remember that a heatsink isn't going to drastically change the temps any version of the heatsink. At best its going to be one degree or so at best. =) There's only so much copper you can throw at the problem.

    This may not work well.

I hope this gets sorted out very soon. A heatsink with enough capacity is only one piece of the puzzle. A proper fitting one is just as critical if not more so. I just ordered one from Mythlogic over the weekend, hope I'm not disappointed.

It was tested with Hardcore settings.

I tested very late last night so I didn't apply any patch. :p

Was never good at Crysis or Crysis 2, the video was just showing the performance. :)

I don't know, didn't have problem with nvidia GPUs, maybe the game needs to be patch.

    You are welcome. :)
