Idle is around 45C and I'm going to start some Napoleon: Total War now, so I'll have some load temps in an hour or so

Also, I'm doing some bitcoin mining, seems to be hitting a high temp of 88C

Do you have the IC7 paste and do you happen too know your room temperature? Thanks again for the info! -

Has there been any benchmarking with this card for the Witcher 2?

Such a hard time waiting!

how much better is 6990m from 6970m???

First post here, after reading for some time.
Firstly, i want to to thank everybody for helping me choose my next laptop which is going to be the 15.6 sager with 6990 (it arrives next week)
I'm a bit worried about the heatshink though...
I made the order from Xotic, what happens if the heatshink isn't the proper one? -

Since I can only speak about Sager Branded machines you can be assured you will have the correct heatsink.
-
is the problem with temperature for all 6990m cards or its a specific brand that has the temperature issues?
-
Justin is being a bit disingenuous here, or simply doesn't have the right information.
Based on info provided from Pkhetan and speaking to a Mythlogic rep, this is how I understand it: the current 6990Ms have two versions of weaker heatsinks installed on them (-202 and -203?). Yes, these were technically the 'right' heatsinks for the 6990M, but they are not the current heatsink (we could speculate that an upgrade was pushed through because of high temps, but that would be speculation). Current production of the 6990M includes the new (-204) heatsink, but these updated cards have not trickled into the market yet. If you buy a 6990M currently, you are going to get either the old sucky heatsink or the slightly improved version. Mythlogic guarantees that all of their orders from this point on will have the improved heatsink, but not the -204, as they haven't gone out yet.
So if you want the -204 heatsink, you have no choice but to wait. Period. Personally, my laptop will be stashed away under my plasma TV on a cooling pad when I game, and so I'm not horribly worried about temps around 90c. YMMV. -

I think myself and some other Sager Dealers are the only ones being forthcoming with posting pics of the 6990's per requests also providing detailed info on the heatsinks along with model #'s and the supported GPU models.
From Sager Engineering:
-
Seems like a nice card
-
I dont think there is a magic heatsink out there that will drop temps by 10c+ like everyone is expecting to. The 90c operating temp of the gpu has more to do with the laptops overal design. If anything, the fan's performance is more important than the cooler.
Is the current heatsink offered by clevo all copper? If so then its better than the m18x gpu heatsink since it is pretty much all aluminum and 6990 temps of that laptop are in the mid 70's range. -
-
-
If Clevo/Sager saw a need to redesign the heatsink they should, as a gesture of goodwill, extend the warranty on customers who have the 6990's with 203 heatsinks.
They said the 203 is approved by Clevo testing and under normal circumstances that would be good enough for me but there has been no long term testing on these new cards. I'm going to have nightmares of starting the laptop up 1 day after the 1 year parts warranty has expired and having the GPU burst into flames on my lap.

Any one selling the 6990m by itself for the p150hm?

If possible, would be great if more people posted their full load temp. -

The 6990M card itself looks nice, but the pad on the memory chips seems a bit thick to me. Wonder if you can use thermal paste on those...
-
Thanks again Gentech for another very useful video.
-
any reselllers in the states selling the 6990m right now?
-
Yes, Clevo ship the built-ready P150HM from their factory with -203 heatsink. And I have absolute trust in Clevo. So this means for sure that the -203 heatsink is absolutely compatible.
EDIT: forget about what I said above.
See this -

Just a note to remember regarding this card doing benches and such. It is acceptable for the temps to reach in the high 80C or even 90C with a room temp of about 30C. Idle about 50C.
This is what the factory has reported.

I have the 6970m, and the new BIOS update fixed the fan tables and stopped the fan from an endless cycle of whirring and stopping.
It's all good. -
-
It was actually a bit while,
I updated both the BIOS and the EC when the BIOS update came out with (fixed fan tables).
