I hope you are not being sarcastic there![]()
Anyways, I'd like to thank Justin for this reply and the fact that sagers are at least equipped with 203. I'll test it and post some results next week![]()
what is the cost of the 204 heatsink?
If it turns out that the performance is better (maybe its a cost thing as blacky said) I think all customers should be getting the 204 eventually..."punishing" early adopters is not so good for sales![]()
-
No I'm not sarcastic at all, Clevo assured me that the -203 is compatible with the 6990M, ans since the whole notebook is fabricated by Clevo, then who can be more royal than the king.
EDIT: forget about what I said above.

Thought I would have my laptop by tomorrow (my birthday) in preparation for the weekend. Wife and son are headed to Philly to visit her family. I'm staying home which means this is the first weekend in about 2 years I have to myself. Unfortunately Malibal told me it's being built tomorrow and tested over the weekend for a Monday ship date.
-
You have my sympathies.
-
Bummer dabooosh... I really wish we could have delivered it before your birthday.
-
Would have been nice but just wasn't in the cards. I'd much rather you guys tke the time to test it over the weekend and ensure everything is working properly. Either way, it will still be a nice birthday present to myself.
-
Exactly, I would wait another week as long as it comes with everything working properly.
-
I got my np8150 with 6990m today and it does run pretty hot without FN+1 at about 85C but with FN+1 it goes down to 79c~(temperatures gotten from running furmark until temps completely leveled off). Was also able to overclock up to 870/1000mhz though that did increase the temps a good bit and I shall just run at stock for the time being I think. Also it's pretty quiet at idle.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
85C is acceptable according to Sager. You should be fine...
_ -
Memory temps tend to be about 10'c hotter than the core temps,
so as long as the memory doesn't get above 100'c ( which means core is 90'c )
then you don't have to worry. I usually don't care unless the "max" fans kick in, which is a sign that the gfx card is running hot. -
niffcreature ex computer dyke
Anyone who says sager or Clevo is a bad company for having 2 different heatsink revisions and not telling us about it is an idiot, I'm sorry. Thats just not really any of our business.
And.... where else are you going to go buy a 15" with the 6990m? When you find that laptop, see how they are doing on the temps before you criticize Clevo.
I mean, take any laptop with any GPU, and compare the number heatpipes on the heatsink.
People seem to think Clevo is a simple company that supplies commodities for us masses and bends to our every demand as customers? Not so. They are simply a manufacturer that chooses to offer us their services which they could discontinue doing at any time. And right now they are doing it better than most.
Complaining simply makes no sense at all here! -
they are paying customers, they have every right to voice their opinion/concerns.
-
I have to disagree. These notebooks are for enthusiasts who actually care about the hardware they receive. Sure every manufacturer does hardware revs, but enthusiasts are the most sensitive. For crying out loud, some people care about a 1 degree temperature drop!
I got the 203 rev heatsink. It's not a big deal to me. It's enough to know that there is a newer rev. -

By this weekend many, many will have their Sager NP8150 and NP8170 with this card. We look forward to your benches....
_ -
speaking of I present to everyone my benches:
AMD Radeon HD 6990M@stock video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2820QM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P3592 3DMarks
AMD Radeon HD 6990M@870/900mhz video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2820QM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P4095 3DMarks
AMD Radeon HD 6990M@870/1000mhz video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2820QM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P4220 3DMarks
But the heat aint worth running those speeds all the time Stock is what I shall be using. -
Thermal paste probably won't have proper contact between heatsink and VRAM.
-
what thermal pads u guys recommend???0.5mm or 1.0mm???
-
AWSOME, first benchmark on our team! Great to see, thanks for the benches + Rep
-
They brought back Fn+1 fan control!? YAY
It's about time, is that for all the clevo models I hope?, whether Sager, or Malibal, Mythlogic?
-
my mythlogic system has the fn 1 fan control, i wasnt aware that they removed it.
-
indeed, afaik it was never removed.
-
Could you update your drivers and repost scores? I see you're using 8.850.0.0
CCC 11.8 is the latest which is 8.880.3.0. You should see over 4k gpu scores with the new drivers
-
If I could get my gpu to be recognized I would. Can't find that driver set that will work; link?
-
Try this link.
Though it is possible that the 6990M is too new. -
tried that as soon as I got the laptop it don't work.
-
That's strange, because Alienware owners are installing it on their 6990Ms. Maybe the OP in that thread has a different link. Check it out.
-
True, and you still got the weekend to yourself
In other news, Deviltech.de just added the 6990M to the configurator for their 17" Fragbook (+150 from 560M, +50 from 6970M), but not to the 15" 9800 DTX
Whats up with that, as far as I know the 9800 DTX is the P150HM.
Kobalt also added it, thought they didnt use AMD anymore? Perhaps only the 6970M. -
just installed the new drivers with no noticeable change in benchmark scores. Gaming hasn't been tested yet.
-
The main feature is that MLAA is supposed to have a 30% lower hit on framerates.
-
yeah but with such a high PPI screen as are on these machines there is really no reason to need more than 2x AMSAA. I suppose if you wanna use it go ahead I just doubt there will be a perceivable decrease in jaggies
-
Ahhhh, I want to give a reseller my money so bad! I need the 6990 in the P151HM1 chassis (for the non-rubberized finish and 95% gamut glossy screen), but no one seems to be willing to sell one like that yet
-
Malibal will do that for you.
-
I've been trying to do that with them, I've had multiple PM's with the Malibal rep on here, talked to their sales department, and they say they won't do it. The rep on here says they're trying to make it an option on the website within the next week or so, but my classes start up next week, I don't want to have too many class periods pass by without a laptop.
It's frustrating because I know they can do it, and normally I wouldn't be so antsy, but I'm kind of in a time crunch. -
Have you tried it out yet? 2xM LAA looks pretty nice.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

Well it's not on the last generation, I don't know if it was on the W870, but I sure don't have fan control on mine.
-
I originally wanted the hard plastic, but the rubberized finish is actually quite nice.
Which resellers did you ask? -
Been focusing mostly on Malibal because one of their reps was very helpful when I was in the decision process of which laptop to go with. There are two reasons I want to go with the P151HM1 chassis. For the matte finish, as I've heard the rubberized finish also extends to the touchpad and I don't want it to be to "grippy." Second is that the P151HM1 has the 95% gamut glossy screen for free as its default option. I originally wanted the matte screen, but after all the issues I've heard, I'll go with the glossy instead. As a bonus I don't have to pay extra for it on the P151HM1, wheras on the P150H I would have to pay extra. So it should save me money as well which I can put towards having a blu-ray reader put in now versus adding one at a later date.
-
Weird. They accepted when I asked for a P151HM1 with 6990m. I just asked if I could get it, if I paid $20 to upgrade the PSU. Also, I just saw a post on this forum from a MALIBAL rep, mentioning a PM with information on ordering a P151HM1 with 6990m or GTX 580m. You may want to ask again, maybe your questions were confusing.
Mythlogic also offers the P151HM1 with 6990m. Well, you don't chose the Clevo model, but with the Pollux you can chose the finish: rubber/plastic.
Either way, you won't have your laptop next week if you order during the week-end. It may be processed, since MALIBAL are assembling laptops this week-end, but you would be relatively far down the queue. I ordered august 5th and was told it would probably ship next week. -
Yea we will be adding the finish to our 1611 series here in the next week also, you will see this more and more as Clevo has finally officially blessed doing such things, AKA using a P151 w/ 180W interchangeably with a P150
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
August 11th Sager and the resellers started shipping the 6990M in the Sager models. Hopefully more will chime in the forum here to give us their thoughts and benches. Please...
_ -
Yeah, it's possible I wasn't clear. I had talked with their rep via PM about getting a P151HM1 with the more powerful PSU for $20 so that I could upgrade later, then I read more about the 6990 and with the performance upgrade that it would be for just $245 more I asked if I could get the P151HM1 with the 6990. I guess I never asked if I could get the P151HM1 with the upgraded PSU AND the 6990, I just assumed he would figure it out.
I also talked with Justin from Xotic PC and he just flat out said it can't be done.
Very confusing, especially since I"ve seen what you posted regarding getting the 6990 in the P151HM1 from Malibal.
EDIT: And yeah, i know I wouldn't get it this week, even if I had placed my order early this past week, but I want to get in the production queue as early as possible so taht maybe I can receive it the week following next. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
It's not that it CAN'T be done. Clevo must approve of this for warranty purposes. Sorry.
_ -
And this is where I get confused.
-
One of them deals with self -> Clevo
One of them deals with self -> Sager -> Clevo
A chain is longer than the other. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
As of the end of the business day ended today, Sager, who is the largest importer of Clevo's, has not said a word on this. Monday I can check on this more since things are closed up for the weekend.
_ -
Huge early thank-you to you Larry!
-
I thought the ATI and Nvidia P150HM used a different motherboard layout and that would cause issues for using a 6990M in a P151HM1 since it is exclusively nvidia in theory?
-
In my P150HM I exchanged the AMD on Nvidia card. Without any problems.
-
That's because the P150HM is supposed to be able to support AMD and Nvidia. The P151HM is different.
-
I wont speak to a 6990m, but plenty of people have swapped their 460m for a 6970 in an 8130, so I am guessing there are no issues with AMD or Nvidia. The computers are identical outside of the different finish and power supply. The base Clevo models even use the exact same Bios.
