^ The 8130 should be able to support AMD cards too. But if you switch to something like the 6990m, you will have to upgrade the PSU to 180w.

Ok, so I ran 3DMark 2011 basic edition, my score was P3521<s> 3DMarks, low for comparable systems. </s>Never mind, just an ad.
    AMD Radeon HD 6970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor,CLEVO P150HMx score: P3521 3DMarks
    <s>
    Ouch.

It said Graphics driver is not approved.
Also, 3DMark reports the card as a 6970M with 6990M drivers. I ordered a 6990M. Device manager reports the card as a 6990M, so there's a bit of confusion there.

Tips on improvement? *Should I be worried about the 6970M listing?

*nevermind - I verified on CCC.

Anyone know the code for strikethrough?</s>

They really need to remove the advertisement on that page for PC Health Check. It's confused so many people.

Xerloq: Your score is not low for your hardware. See average benchmarks on the link below (You can scroll down to see the score in 3D Mark 11).

I wouldn't worry about it showing it as a 6970 in 3DMark either, they're slow to update to new cards. Considering your benchmarks, you appear to have the right one :)

If your model came with the 555m like in that link, then there's no way for it to work. The 555m is soldered on to the motherboard while the 6990 and most other high end cards are MXM based which is a physical slot. I couldn't tell what the power requirements on your machine were, but you'd need at least 180w from the power brick. It looks like you're out of luck from what I can tell.

It is < s >Text here will have strikethrough.< /s > But this text here is okay.

...except remove the spaces. I tried using code wrappers to bypass but the strikethrough still appeared in the code wrapper.

Good catch, Tirenz! Will read on and see if my decision to go AMD paid off... :)

EDIT: It paid off. With current drivers, the GTX 580M is ~8% better on average. In most games where the GTX580M beats the 6990M, either the 6990M was already hitting 60+FPS, or both GPUs were hitting under 30FPS. Also worthy to note, it might've been lost in translation, but the reviewer did not specify which drivers each system was using.

Wow, so much for the 6990 being faster than any other mobile GPU. I'll let the drivers shake out first to see how both the 6990 and 580 compares. BF3 doesn't come out till end of Oct so I have some time to wait it out.

Whoever said the 6990M was going to be faster than any other mobile GPU must've only referred to AMD's slide presentation, which everyone should take with a grain of salt. :)

Still, being only ~8% slower than the GTX580M whilst being hundreds of dollars cheaper to go with, I like my decision to go AMD.

EDIT: I would also like to add that both nVIDIA and AMD have only released one or two drivers that support these new GPUs. I wouldn't be too surprised to see these figures change (for better or worse) once drivers have been optimized.

By the way, I just put my 6990m in my 8130.

After six minutes of furmark, hit max temp of 92c. IC7 diamond + raised laptop cooler.

Pretty comfortable with those kind of numbers being I doubt I hit any more intensive gaming.

I highly doubt the difference is that much. Also, he mentioned his numbers in a the 17inch model, but he lists an 8150. That would be a big difference. However, I am not sure if he used IC7. If he has anything other then IC7, those numbers are pretty darn impressive.

    My 6990m is in a 8130. I have the 203 heatsink. I used IC7. I have a laptop cooler.

    Running 3d Vantage I peaked around 82c.

Furmark was 92c, but furmark is in another league of stress.

In any case, I doubt I will hit 92c playing games, so I am not worried at all.

    My P170HM has the 203 heatsink. :(

Been setting up the laptop all day, loading Win7, apps, games, etc.

Was just sitting here browsing the web while waiting on downloads and CPUID reported the 6990 was at 82degrees! Hit FN+1 and let it run for 10 seconds and the temp dropped back down to 59degrees.

Is there a better app than CPUID? It seems a bit flaky.

New to the benchmarking scene. What should I benchmark with?

    Hmm, that is disconcerting.

Maybe you should under-volt the card. I remember seeing somewhere that the card is set at 1.1 V, but 1.0 V is quite stable and can decrease the temperature. I know you shouldn't have to resort to doing this :( , but if it reduces temp. without reducing performance, why not?

Malibal could you comment on the higher temperatures? I have a P150 coming, and it's likely to hit even higher temperatures.. Would the 204 heatsink perform better? I plan on doing strenuous things, and don't want to overheat.

I'm upset but as I haven't had the laptop 24 hours at this point, I'm not irrationally angry. I haven't had enough time to bond with it to feel too broken up. :p

Really at this point it will be up to Malibal as to how they want to proceed: remedy the situation and work to turn this customer from an upset one into a happy one, or just refund my money and relegate the problem to past history.

This much is true: when things go wrong like this we will really see what resellers are made of.
