You definitely have some issue. You mentioned hitting 82c just browsing the internet earlier? That is crazy hot. I am sitting between 45-55c when I am just bouncing around the internet.

Would Metro 2033 push a card more then Furmark?

Not sure about Metro vs. Furmark. Someone more knowledgable can surely answer that.

I took the laptop with me to work this morning where it's a brisk 21 degrees (co-workers like it cold) and I just fired up Metro 2033 again. Just walking through the underground town (no firefight) and the temperature again peaked at 106 degrees.

My stock temps were hitting 94-96 while playing bfbc2. Running P150hm with 6990M.

Repasted with AS5 and am now sitting at around 88-89'C and should reduce slightly more after the AS burn in period.

It did take a couple of attempts to get a good contact though (didn't use enough paste at first) and my laptop shut down running 3dmark06 due to excessive heat. I have done a lot of paste jobs and this one is by far the most touchy.

Yours could just be a bad paste job?

Right now Malibal reports 17 in models are running 3dmark vantage at 80C and furmark at 93c max this is with ICD7 paste. This is completely acceptable to me :p

Well, Malibal sent me some files to flash the BIOS but there were no changes. Temps still hit 105.

I just got off the phone with Malibal. The laptop is going to be RMA'd now and I will be sending it back tomorrow.

Happy to say by this time next week, I should have my new nVidia based, no heatsink or temperature problem laptop.

Good luck with your laptops fellas. May your headshots be true and your gpu temps low. ;)

This, in addition to Clevo saying absolutely no 6990s in 8130s, has led me to just go with the 560M in my 8130 from Xotic PC. I'll see how my machine performs once BF3 is out and then evaluate whether or not I'll upgrade my GPU.

Plus since I"m saving money going with the 8130 and not spending the extra $$ on the 6990 I got a Blu-ray reader and a 120GB SSD. Can't wait to get it :)

I've been following this thread for a while now but its starting to get a bit lost. Could someone clarify for me whether there has actually been a large number of 203 heat sinks showing significant temperature differences?

It seems to have been deemed fact that the 203 is terrible without a preponderance evidence.

Though maybe I'm just being naively optimistic because I'll shortly have a 6990M with 203...

I've been reading all of the posts about the temperature concerns with the 6990m. I signed up to this forum just to say I've had my machine for over a week now and I have had no high temperature related problems at all.

When surfing the web and/or listening to music, the temp is about 45 - 51C

After playing Crysis on Very High, 1920x1080, for about 4 hours, my temp rose to 75C.

I also have had mine for almost a week now from xoticpc (delivered last Friday). Sager NP8150 with the -203 heatsink and so far have had no temp problems.

I idle anywhere from 39-45. I ran Furmark for 10 minutes after reading this to see what I got to and it was the highest I have seen at 86. Running 3dmark06 and 3dMark11 i didn't go over 77.

I also tested playing The Witcher 2 on settings between high and ultra and i maxed out at 82 over a 4+ hour span of playing.

My 6990m doesn't ever go over 87c even with an overclock at 870/1000 and not even using the FN+1. I did get ICD7 option but have decided to switch it to ICD24 when my replacement cpu arrives.

Hey man, sorry to hear about your ordeal. Hopefully, this second laptop with the 580M will be a much better experience and you have zero issues.

Thanks for posting, as I was undecided between the 6990M and 580M, and will now more than likely opt for the 580M once the price drops.

I have a 6990m in an 8130 and my temps seem fine. W/ a 203 heatsink. Plus Malibal is now offering this upgrade?

    3d Vantage = 81c
    Furmark after 10 minutes = 91c

I do have a laptop cooler that lowered temps by about 6c... Eitherway, my temps seem easily within normal ranges. That said, if Malibal gets the 204 heatsinks and is willing to sell one, I may give one a whirl if they prove significantly better.

Seriously? I tried building one to retire my undying compaq and there were no options on their website. So unless they say otherwise I'm gonna assume they dont offer it. Besides i'm still undecided on which model and graphics card to choose.

I did this personally by purchasing a 6990m/heatsink/180w psu separate from the 8130, installing it myself.

I think there are easier solutions to this now, but I am by no means sure.

1st post, I've been lurking here for few weeks for info about buying a new laptop. So first of all I want to thank everyone for all the awesome info on here.

    I decided on a np8150 with a 6990m bought from xoticpc.

Ordered with stock paste and i repasted myself with IC7 using the dot method.

    203 heatsink, room temp 72 f

    Furmark 1.91 temp was 82c after a full 10min on 1080p

No cooler, but i propped the laptop up off of a tabletop with fans on high.

    Welcome to NBR!

Those are some very awesome numbers by just propping the laptop up. Would you be comfortable running Furmark on it without it being propped up? If not, that's okay. I'm the kind of person who doesn't even overclock because I am too afraid of things going way wrong. :)

I just had time to repaste the origin clevo paste with coll. metal ultra. My temps after running vantage and 3D11

    max: 74 C !!!
    IDLE: 46 C

    Roomtemp was 25,6
    heatsink 204
    driver from clevo

So it is true, when you use ICD7 or similar the temps drops about 5C.

After you apply the paste. Do you use a finger with plastic on it to smear the paste evenly on the GPU or do you just re attach the Heatsink with the paste untuched?

    Thanks :)

Got my NP8150 w/ 6990m yesterday from Xotic (who were exellent of course), really happy with it so far.
After 10 minutes of running the Furmark burn-in (@1080p) I saw GPU temps reach 96C -- but I never saw temps above the mid to high 80s when running 3dmark11 or Crysis 2.
That's with ICD7 and without any other external laptop cooler.
Since Furmark seems to be somewhat of an artificial test and my gaming temps were much lower, I'm not too worried. Time will tell... more testing this weekend :)

Right inline with my #s. My laptop cooler ($30 dollar targus one from amazon prime) drops it about 4-6c from there, which is a worthwhile investment in my book.

the laptop world is way behind the desktop crowd.

you guys should never use furmark or any other power virus. these software do not gaurantee stability in games. they are completely useless.

While there are a few that use furmark to test stability, most people use it to test the limit of their GPU and see what the worst-case temperature is.
