Relax people; don't let your anxiety whip up a fury over what is, for now, isolated issues. Myself, and a few others will have these in our hands tomorrow; then we'll see what's going on.

My laptop (Clevo m750ru with 8800m and X7900) hits 70-75 while gaming, so 80C for a 15 inch gamer isnt that bad.

    holy crap people.

80C degrees is a great temp for a high-end videocard.

My 7800GTX get 87-88C degrees during gaming sessions.

    Well, Vista also "helps".
Vista makes the laptop run hotter, I`ve tested it on 5 different laptops , compared to XP.
Not to mention the performance boost XP provides...
Crysis at WUXGA is smoother than ever :D

I am so dissapointed. This notebook was just released and there are already issues with heat and noise.

What's the use of having all of this performance when it isn't stable? You can't even use the notebook normally without having it heat up, particularly on the lower right hand side!
And where is Justin with his review?

OK...so this is just ONE case that i have seen of the semi-high temps...i'm really just waiting to see a few more reviews before i decide if i should put off my order for a little while.

Do we have ANY other cases that i have over looked (besides Ad@m's)?

But that's the only two reviews we got! I think I will cancel my order if the next post somehow says the GPU temp goes above 100C ....

There are already things I am a little disappointed with including:
    1) brick size and wight
    2) the elevated heat
    3) glossy screen (I didn't notice it until yesterday, my own fault)
    4) noise? maybe, maybe not

Though, so far I am still very happy with what I am going to get, unless there is a major problem with this laptop.

I'm amazed that people are so worked up over Vista 'causing' a 15" notebook with a 9800m GT to reach high temperatures.

I mean, geez! You're blaming the software for a totally unrelated hardware issue. An issue which we don't even know the extent or severity of.

Let's look at what we know: The components in question are designed to withstand that heat (and I'm skeptical about ANYTHING the Inquirer says); Sager released the notebook - they know what they're doing; Ad@ms hard drive is BEEPING - that's probably a defect. Can we stop with the accusations and conspiracy theories, please?

On an unrelated note, Ad@m, you up for installing a 9800m GTX and Quad Core Extreme processor to your 8660?

If he is getting BEEPS from his laptop, that means something is wrong. That is the laptop saying "Hey something is wrong with me!" Does the manual have the decoder for the different beeps? I would definitely not take Ad@ms case as standard if hes got a beeping laptop.

Um, unless I'm mistaken, there's only been 3 people that have come forward and said they have received their 8660. And again, unless I've mistaken, all of them have mentioned heat. A key term for those of us interested in this laptop. so of course we will get a little worked up, especially without a proper review.

You're not mistaken but not justified in even getting slightly worked up. So far of those 3, 2 have reported the heat coming from the laptop being 'a little warm', whereas one person has said uncomfortably hot.

This said person also is hearing a beeping sound, a sound the other 2 have not heard. Through early analysis, we can infer that something is wrong with his unit and it is not the norm of the typical unit. Therefore, no reason for any initial panicking.

    In layman's terms,

    CALM YO'SELF DOWN BWOY! :D

nope, not worked up, only slightly concerned, I'll get my rig Thursday, and make my own ascertains at that point. Still, Like i mentioned in the other thread, I don't believe in isolated incidents, if it's a bad apple, it came from a bad tree.

People need to calm down. We all knew the laptop will get a little warm. What do you expect from a 15.4 inch gaming laptop? Worst case scenario is return your laptop, build a better faster gaming rig for $1500 desktop and spend the 600+ left over on a small laptop like the eee pc. My onkyo 805 receiver gets really hot but thats the way its suppose to be. So as long as this laptop will work with no problems then i'll be happy with it. Who knows might even save me on my winter heating bills. :p

so feel free to cancel your orders so mine would get here faster :)

Clevo would not have released this machine if they knew this was going to be a problem. It was delayed time and time again to ensure a quality product would be put out. That's what they've done in the past, which is why they have such a stellar reputation; it's this great track record that stirred so much excitement about the product to begin with. "Finally -- an m15x done right!"

Clevo clearly knew the design challenges associated with fitting the power they did into a 15.4" chassis. They clearly took painstaking means to ensure that heat would NOT be a problem, and Sager from early on stated they would not offer 44W+ processors or the 9800 GTX. Do you really think that they would be testing the machine as it is currently offered, burn themselves on the palmrest, and consider that to be within acceptable standards of quality that distinguishes them? I highly doubt it. The same goes for persistent beeping sounds that, unfortunately, Ad@m's unit is afflicted with.

    Relax, people.

just read the past 10 pages of this thread. WOW. this is without a doubt the most annoying thread since paladin and some people were going back and forth about pcmw a few months back...

please just keep a couple of things in mind...
-a 15.4" gaming laptop is going to run a little hot
-hitting 80 degrees on the video card is NOT dangerous

All I have to admit is that people were expecting the NP8660 to fix all of Alienware's problems with the m15x, and for the most part, it didn't. It seems like a pretty solid notebook, though. Nice review Ad@m!

120W power adapter, it`s not big.
So let`s see, my Dell 1501 has a 65W power brick. Tiny...
My Hp has a 90W power brick. Moderate.
    My Sager has a 120W power brick...bigger.
My Dell xps1730 has a 230W power adapter. HUGE.
Would you like some cheese and crackers to go with that whine guys? :D
80C is DANGEROUS if it`s an idle temp or a constant one.
Consider that not everyone is taking care of their laptops, and this is a gaming one.
80C is SAFE if you clean it regularly, and don`t game 24/7.

    There was nothing to fix.
However, if someone will game at WUXGA(if they get that screen) or OC, I bet 90C+ temps are gonna happen real quick.
