Well, as of now, there are three concerns with buying an m15x
1)TEmps
2)BQ
3)Service

Ahh... I think you guys are stressing over nothing.
To the people saying "zomg its just out and there are already problems", you guys need to take a look at the history of product releases in technology. Fact of the matter is, most problems arise right at launch.
80 degrees is fine for a GPU.
60 degrees is pushing it a little bit for the hard drive, and I think those beeping sounds are the drive protesting.
Paranoid? Don't order the same HDD that Ad@m did.
Logical? Wait until you get yours, if you get screwed, get a new one shipped.
I'm pretty happy with how its turning out so far. Benchmarks are looking like expected, and heat/noise look exactly how a gaming notebook should. Yeah, cooler and quieter would've been better, but we can't get everything.
Can't wait to get mine -

Nice thanks for the confirmation Chunghwa.
Just remember people that we've been anticipating this laptop for a long time and a i believe a lot of us were expecting it to solve all the problems of heat etc that the m15x had flawlessly. And so when we look at the laptop for the first time we're kinda looking for faults, i'm sure when your just doing your daily use on the laptop it will be FINE! You just have to remember what is being accomplished with the laptop and that it cannot be perfect. -
After reading through several pages... I have to agree!
People are just freaking out for no reason (me included).
80ºC during gameplay is NOTHING. The m15x (the closest comparable laptop) reaches around 90ºC and the one I had reached 102ºC playing Crysis. When I read "80ºC while playing crysis" I was really happy. Regarding the HDD, only this case seems to be "problematic". Remember, the HDD even beeps. It seems obvious it's the HDD that is not working properly.
Appart from that, everything seems fine. People just let themselves get into the panick trains very easily. -
.

If you are able to read...
I made the 1st post before I read all Adam's post.
I posted my first quotation.
I then posted that second quote you make of me.
On the second line you can see "People are just freaking out for no reason (me included).".
Does that clears it out for you? Maybe you should read a bit more throughly next time.
Cheers,

could it be because of Adams beeping hard drive that it is overheating and that is why he is getting that temp.
also this was reported by Andrew on the Kobalt Forum last night:
-
oh my. just read through 16 pages.. that's 160 posts.. =x
okay here's what i think..
80c during gaming isn't really that bad you know.. i'm hitting slightly over 70c on a bigger chasis.. well, could be the effect of surrounding temps, etc, but hey, the 8660 is running on 3 lesser fans and is doing only almost 10c higher in gpu temps, that's pretty good for a 15" imo..
well, i gotta admit the HDD is very hot at 60c.. COULD be a defective one there...
according to reviews i've seen here on NBR regarding this, there's the 'slightly warm' feeling and there's the 'slightly hot' feeling on the right side of the touchpad.. some people might find it hot, you might not. and the other ways works too.. (just like how some people define 'fast' when it comes to computers. what might be fast for me might not be for you)
oh and another thing.. i just love the way the 8660 balances power AND looks. it looks better than a m15x to me (i don't really need the lighted keyboard,do i? i already have a razer lycosa.) the blue fn keys' symbols loooks really cool and professional.. and so is the black finish around the keyboard and the lid (i like his that picture of his where he took the photo from directly ontop of the laptop with the lid closed). with this much power packed into a 15" casing.. airflow would definately be abit tight and with only 1 fan aimed to cool the GPU, i think the cooling design is already MUCH better than the m15x..
oh and Ad@m.. if you don't mind, could you post a pic of your PSU showing where the fan is.. i can't seem to find any pics for that angle.. =/ oh, and nice review+ pics.. -

Someone's girlfriend has a husband? That's just cruel, man. Imagine the same thing happening to you...
-
OMFG, his laptop is even making a beeping sound. its obviously a lemon. Stop getting so worried people.
-
Everybody relax and wait for your own 860TU.
As soon as more people review it, we should know more about how IT REALLY IS. -
9800M GTS only 1% slower than GT? Doesn't it have fewer stream processors or whatever?
-
I hope you guys realize that the beeping can be from the HDD.
-
Geez, people go one about stream processors like it's the be'll and end'll. The GTS has 32 less shaders but clocks quite a bit higher in turn. Kinda similar to the differences between the 9800M GT and the 8800M GTX.
The heat/power consumption is around the same I'd imagine. And yet, the GTS GPU is supposedly down around an average 100 pts on 3DMARK scores from the GT. -
How can the GTS be clocked higher yet run cooler? Smaller fabrication?
-
M GT card. -

I'm still waiting to find out where ad@m baught his computer fomr.
-
I say that they are not re-brands is because some people (that contacted me) bricked their 8800M GTX's by flashing their VBIOS with the 9800M GT's....
..if they were the exact same cards with same cores, then that would have not happened. -
Bios flashes can brick regardless?
The real question is how many have successfully flashed one card with the other bios. -
none... if you are wondering.
-
Hahaha. Okay, maybe it's not a rebrand.
Why would nVidia bother making a completely new yet identical card though? -
its probably a slightly modification in the firmware, memory, core, etc..
oh well, at least we know they perform the same. -
9800GT is being discontinued so you can stop comparing them very soon.
-
-
Good, I'll be able to unload my 9800M GT to late adopters if/when the X3870 rolls out.
-
Ad@m, where did you buy it from?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I think he's embarrassed to say.
-
weird... is it me or someone deleted my post about my brother dead pixel problem on the bottom right screen of his NP8660?
-
from xoticpc, that high pitched noise is killing me. I'm calling them tomorrow. It is like I'm suffering form tinnitus while using this laptop.
-
@Robvya: Are you sure it was in this thread? I remember reading it and I asked you who your brother was.

Your hard drive?
Your fans?
Your power adapter? -
Shall we take bets? I put $10 on the hdd.
-
This laptop is BA guys if you are having 2nd thoughts well just dont. i would put this thing up agenst a m15x anyday. The metal is a nice touch too. It feels solid. Also the screen opens like butter and the wobble is a big zero.
Ad@ms harddrive i take it is no good? over heating? that sucks but at least you know that you will get it back within your life time cough alienware cough -
Wait when you say open like butter does that mean it's not stiff?
If you tilted the front of the laptop up would the screen fall back or are the hinges quite tight? -
they are tight. i mean its smooth by "butter". you can put the screen at any angle and it wont fall.

How do you guys think the NP8660 looks in person?
-
I don't have one yet, but i suspect the pictures don't do it justice

Do any of the resellers have an employee purchase program? Dell gives my dad a 15% discount on any of their laptops (I should've remembered that when I got my desktop...) since the construction company that he owns do government contracts.

I don't think Sager has it right now, because I doubt university, government, or company will make massive orders from them at this point.
-
According to DS Sager does handle some bulk orders for gov't..
Best bet is to email Sager. -
. I'm disappointed though that this new "footwarmer" has a noisy fan :-/
-
Everyone is overreacting. Typical mass hysteria caused in public forums. Everyone (me included) gives in to that... Just try to keep yourself a bit distant for a while and evaluate what's being presented in facts (not what people think about something they read).
-
There's a fan on the power brick. It's confirmed. If that's really a deal breaker to you, find another laptop.
-

I think the fan on the power adapter is better than without it. It shows the quality the Clevo has to offer, they must have engineered everything to perfection even the power adapter has its own fan.
